Prepare Your Device
Custom Recovery like TWRP should be installed on your device.
Your device must be fully charged or at least have 80% battery charge on it, as the process drains-out battery. If you don’t have enough charge then it could cause the device to shut down unexpectedly and break the rooting process, which could permanently damage the device.
Take a backup of all your Important Data and Settings to prevent unexpected loss, as this process might wipe out all your data.
I am not responsible if your device is damaged. Root your device at your own risk. Rooting your device will VOID the warranty of device.
Steps To Root Android One
Copy the downloaded Zeus Kernel and SuperSU.zip to your device internal storage or external storage.
Now reboot your device in Recovery. To reboot your device to recovery, Power off your device, and then press and hold volume down and power keys together. Then choose recovery option when prompted.
Take a nandroid backup of System, Data, Boot, Recovery & EFS partitions. Wait until the backup process completes. This may take some time.
Now hit the “Install” option and browse the Zeus Kernel file and select it.
Just swipe for the installing the kernel.
After installing the kernel, now again select “Install” and this time browse the SuperSU.zip and flash it.
Reboot your device.
That’s it, now you have rooted your Android One devices which are updated to Android 6.0.

Great toolkit but I have a couple questions. In the instructions on your site and youtube video it has a step to flash noverity. Is this really needed or is it just a precaution? Also, could I just flash the recovery via fastboot and then just pull noverity and magisk from their source and flash them? I always like to flash things myself the normal way so I understand what's going on.
noverity is just to protect from bootloop. i use noverity on all Nougat Devices. and also it can't cause any damage to device so don't worry.
correct meaning-
you can Root Your Phone without modified boot.img which is Must Require on Many Devices.

Thanks for the quick response. I have one more question. Can I substitute SuperSU in place of magisk? After using the toolkit, I tried to update magisk to the latest version (13.2) using magisk manager but instead it gave an error. It didn't brick my phone or anything but when I rebooted and went into magisk manager it showed the phone was still properly rooted but reported that magisk wasn't installed. Not sure if it's a compatibility issue or not. I also tried flashing the latest version of magisk using twrp and got the same error in magisk manager upon reboot.
At any rate, do you see any problem with using SuperSU instead?
Flash SuperSu 2.79 make Sure you have a backup because Bricking Change me present.

Realme 1 - Treble Rom
'TREBLE', let's talk about it.
Realme 1 supports treble, we have unlocked bootloader, a working TWRP, and several Treble Roms available, so why haven't anyone tried flashing a Treble Rom yet on Realme 1? Those are the only things we need to flash a Treble Rom on this device right? Am I missing something?
I don't have a backup phone nor do we have official firmware for Realme 1 to recover from soft brick, so I am not willing to risk my device yet. If someone else could do it instead I would appreciate it a lot.
P.S. Someone should start a pinned thread for 'Realme 1 - Treble Roms'

Hey I successfully installed TWRP recovery but I didn't flash magisk yet. But even now there is a message in status bar saying "Rooting of your phone has been detected. Tap to fix" and that screen is showing me to install 2.1GB OTA update. Idk what is happening I never faced such thing in any of my earlier phone while twrp flashing . What is this ? Can I install the update ? And why is it showing. Will there be possible bootloops if I install the update or willI I still be having TWRP or stock recovery get flashed. Please answer so i can proceed with my choice.

Updating OS will remove root but will it also remove TWRP ???
One more question I followed all the steps correctly (including wiping data) but from TWRP I can't mount DATA.
---------- Post added at 10:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:13 PM ----------
After wiping data if I just reboot to TWRP recovery then I can mount the DATA but once I have started the phone and set it up then again I boot into TWRP recovery and when I try to mount DATA I am not able to do so. Can't mount /data invalid argument. Please suggest something.

You my friend are a life saver. I installed a magisk module (riru sui) that bootlooped my device. Tried every damn near every option to remove that module...couldn't gain access via ADB as my device was coming up as "unauthorized". I fastboot flashed your twrp successfully....got into file manager and manually removed the module..and my phone booted back up. THANK YOU!

thats why older Samsung phone running android 7 and lower are considered the safest. they have a inbuilt download mode to recover their software incase of a bootloop. but xperia phones aren't the hardest to root either since they are one of the most used. only problem is that some xperia phones will have their recovery menu and commands etc in chinese/japanese depending where you bought them.
Thanks for sharing,Great Works ~!
Does this not support decryption? I wasn't able to get in with my password using this version of TWRP, but I was with OrangeFox.

You've older version of miui installed with twrp and device is rooted.
1) you don't need to wipe anything. Just flash the rom and If you want you can wipe caches after flashing the rom.
2) TWRP might get replaced with stock one so flash twrp immediately after flashing the ROM. Also flash DM Verity disabler zip otherwise miui will replace twrp with stock recovery.
3) According to topjohnwu, the method of getting magisk by flashing in recovery is old & deprecated and maintained with minimal efforts & no longer recommended.

Ok so for those interested, here’s how I did it :
- in Magisk I chose uninstall - restore image
- did the ota the normal way before any reboot
then had to reroot :
- downloaded the fastboot firmware here
- extracted boot.img from archive and transfered it to phone
- in magisk click install then select boot.img
- magisk writes a new file magisk_patched_[random_strings].img, copied it to pc
- booted the phone in fastboot mode
- used fastboot.exe with command fastboot flash boot magisk_patched_[random_strings].img
Done. No data or settings lost.

In this guide, I won't go into detail, and I'll assume you already know how to flash via Odin and install Custom ROMs.
NB: By "downgrade" to Android 8, I don't mean the original stock firmware from Samsung, but a CustomROM based on Android 8.0.1, where it is very similar to the original, with no changes except some more features in the CSC. This, for those like me, looking for a CustomROM that is as similar as possible to the original, without too many "invasive" modifications.
I remind you that this guide is valid only and exclusively for the model with code SM-N960N (Korean variant).
It is not possible to perform this guide for the SM-N960F model, as the SW REV are too different between the various firmwares.
Without chatting, I'll list the material you need with the correct firmware to use to be able to downgrade to Android 8.1.0
MATERIAL REQUIRED:
Phone already unlocked with ROOT and Knox 0x1
TWRP recovery (TWRP-3.6.2_9-0-crownlte)
Latest version of Odin link
Samsung USB Driver link
Original Android 9 Stock Firmware (Link later)
2 Custom ROM (Link later)
File Manager zip (example 7zip) link
PC with Microsoft Windows 7-8-8.1-10-11
USB type C cable
1 - We download the 3 software packages:
We should download the original Android 9 firmware, as well as two CustomROMs that you will find on XDA. Download exactly the versions that I give you, otherwise I cannot guarantee the functioning of the procedure described here.
- Original Android 9 SM-N960N Firmware: N960NKSU3CSG3
- First CustomROM (only used to set your own CSC): SuperStable SP3.0 by Dovanchuc7521
- Second DevBase CustomROM for only SM-N960N (Android 8.1.0): N960NKSU2BRL5_DevBase_v6.0 by _alexndr
2 - Flash Stock Firmware whit Odin:
Now that we have everything, we can start by flashing the original firmware via Odin, filling each box with its own package BL, AP, USERDATA, etc...
As CSC select package CSC_OMC_xxx_N960NOKR3CSG3........... so do a clean install going to delete all data!
To do something right, you can also insert the PIT file (extracting it with 7zip from the CSC_OMC package) and inserting it in the appropriate box.
3 - Unlock OEM and install TWRP Recovery:
At the end of the procedure, restart the phone and start for the first time, safely skip the wizard (without connecting to wifi or the 4G network).
Now, even if you have the Bootloader (OEM Unlock) already unlocked, you will have to redo the same procedure, then activate the developer options and connect to a wifi network (this last step is very important). Once connected to a wifi network, open and close the Developer Options menu several times until the OEM unlocking item reappears, which should normally already be active (when it appears).
Once this is done you can restart in Download mode (Bixby+VolumeDown+Insert USB Cable).
Install the TWRP custom recovery via Odin by entering it in the AP box and unchecking the Automatic Restart box.
Once installed, reboot into Recovery, holding down Power+Bixby+VolumUP and when the Note9 logo appears, only release the Power key, continuing to hold down the other two keys (Bixby and VolumUP)
4 - Install the first Custom ROM:
When you are inside the TWRP recovery, the first thing to do is a format given by the appropriate function, typing "yes" on the keyboard to confirm. You don't need to format other partitions.
We install the SuperStable SP3.0 ROM (Android 9), setting our favorite CSC.
In the wizard, you can leave everything as it is, just changing the CSC. At the end of the procedure, make a first start, until you enter the configuration wizard. Once in the initial configuration, restart the phone in Recovery.
5 - Install the second Custom ROM:
Now that you are in recovery, do a quick Wipe and install the second CustomROM N960NKSU2BRL5_DevBase_v6.0 (Android 8.1.0), which will be our version of Android 8.0.1 that we will then use.
This ROM is based on the BRL5 version with all stock, and only some features included in the CSC.
Also this ROM will keep your CSC that you selected with the previous SusperStable ROM installation.
At the end of the procedure, restart the device and wait for the first boot.
6 - We fix network and SIM errors:
At first start, as you will notice, the 4G network will not work, because no SIM is detected and if you go to the options, the IMEI will not even appear. In this step we are going to fix everything.
First of all, open Odin, restart your phone in Download Mode and connect your phone to PC.
In Odin, in the CP box, let's put the related original firmware package N960NKSU3CSG3 again. All other boxes must be empty!! Flash the CP package (which contains the files related to the modem) and reboot.
7 - Enjoy!
Now you will have Android 8.1.0 with your CSC, all the features of the SM-N960N variant (like FM Radio) and with some features like network speed on status bar, ROOT with Magisk*, call recording, etc..
NB: *Since I have not tested, I advise you to NEVER update Magisk Manager, as Magisk itself may not work properly, or new programs may not accept SuperSU permissions or those that already have that permission may not work as they should.

@ExileTM please change the title of your thread as "downgrade" implies rolling back to a previous version of the stock firmware, not transitioning to a custom ROM.
