Hi friends, I got my Nook HD+ today(India). The first time I turn it on, it prompted to install a critical update. I connected it to my wifi network and it downloaded and updated fine. After updating, at the registration process it again checked for critical updates and from this time onwards it keep saying that
" Network Problem: A network-related error occurred. You may have lost connectivity to the local wireless network. Press continue and we'll try to test your connection"
When I press continue it shows " Checking connection" and then detect my wifi fine (Signal strength shows excellent). Then again when I click "continue with setup", this whole procedure is repeating. My Galaxy tab 2 and Laptop are working fine with the same wifi network.
Please, some experts help me about what to do. I'm clueless about what to do next.
There is a known issue with the latest stock Nook firmware moaning about loss of wireless.
Are you able to skip these steps for the time being?
Otherwise I would suggest just flashing one of the Cyanogenmod firmwares instead.
Thanks for the reply artesea. No, I can't skip those steps. All it does is booting to the same procedure again and there is no option to skip. Is it worth waiting for this problem to get fixed by B&N? I really wanna experience the stock OS.
From what others are saying it looks like B&N might have a server down, once it's back up it should just start to work. However if the latest firmware is pointing in the completely wrong direction (IP or domain they don't own) then it might require a firmware patch. Not sure if the device will update if you aren't getting past the reg screens. But a flashable file should be available either direct from them, or someone on these forums.
Keep an eye on this thread where it was first reported

Thanks artesea. One more question. Does doing the factory reset and turning off the wifi will allow me to use the device without registering?

There is a way to skip registration. Look at my HD/HD+ Tips thread linked in my signature and look for the item about skipping OOBE.
Sent from my Nook HD+ running CM10.1 on emmc.
Thanks artesea and leapinlar for the help. My Nook HD+ detected my wifi again out of nowhere and after another update I successfully registered my device. Thanks again guys.
Mine is doing the same thing on February 13, 2018. Really making me mad. Any help is appreciated.
Mine is doing the same thing and it was working fine until then I thought I had to do something with the nook itself so I factory reset it. Now it will not connect to my wifi at all I have even tried my hotspot on my phone but it didn't work. My nook has worked fine up until this point and I have had it for over 5 years. I know it has nothing to do with my battery because I just replaced it at the beginning of this year. It just makes me mad that it will not connect to my wifi.
Can't get past the 'Network Problem' error
I seem to have the same problem as the OP of this thread. I cannot get past a prompt on the stock ROM setup of my Nook HD+ where it says a network-related error has occurred. I'm connected to my home wi-fi just fine but setup will not go past this error. From what I've read it's caused by a security patch needing to be installed on the Nook. In the past, it updated automatically from an OTA update released by B&N but that is not happening any more. Have had it plugged in for days with no update occurring.
Have downloaded the patch file from B&N's website but I can't manually install it because Windows cannot recognize the Nook as a USB device. Have tried updating drivers, uninstalling/reinstalling the device in Windows but nothing works. If I could get that to work, apparently I can just drag & drop the file onto the Nook in Windows and it will install and update the Nook.
So, if anyone can offer a solution to my problem, it would be GREATLY appreciated. I went back to stock ROM because after trying Cyanogen & Lineage the Nook was just too slow to run either one successfully.
Solved: Right after I posted this, I found what is apparently a newer version of the stock ROM than I had previously installed. In case anyone needs this stock ROM it's in the [Stock][Android 4.0.4 ICS] Nook HD/Nook HD+ [Hummingbird/Ovation] 2.2.1 [2018 Update] thread. After installing it, setup went flawlessly and I'm back to full stock ROM. Thanks to secretwolf98 for posting this!

I just got a secondhand Nook tablet 7" HD BNTV400 that the vendor has factory reset, and I'm stuck in the same loop:
"Select network/continue with setup/a network error has occurred/we'll test your connection/continue with setup/a network error has occurred" etc etc.
Can anyone point to the security patch that needs installing, based on the previous post and its solution? This tablet is factory reset, so no funky ROMs needed or anything. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

http s: // help.barnesandnoble.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1139/~/nook-hd%2Fhd%2B---software-version-2.2.1
(you'll need to put that url back together I don't have sufficient number of posts to insert links....)
the current download is 2.2.1 - you'll need to download to a computer I use an old windows xp laptop, cause it doesn't have problems recognizing
the usb connection when the nook is plugged into the computer. after the file is downladed from barnes&nobles,
you'll need to hookup to computer with your charging (usb) cable and copy the file
over to the root directory of the nook
as the instructions state, don't rename the file... it won't work..
NOOK HD/HD+ version 2.2.1 update is available as an automatic download to registered NOOK HD/NOOK HD+ devices connected to Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi should be turned ON and connected to a hotspot, and the device should be left in sleep mode).
To get the software update right now, be sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot, tap the Settings icon in the Status bar at the top of your screen, tap on All Settings, then tap on Device Information, and check to see that your Software version matches the number at the top of this page. If it does not, tap on Software version and then tap on the Check for updates button. Follow any on-screen instructions. Do not turn off your device while it is downloading or installing a software update.
To get the update manually, you can download the software update to your computer at any time and then copy it onto your NOOK HD. Simply follow the steps below.
The process will take about 15 minutes for a manual download (depending on the Internet connection for your computer). You should NOT turn your NOOK off while the new software is being downloaded.
Manual Download Instructions
1. From your computer, click here for the software update file. Select Save and select Desktop as the location.
Do NOT modify or change the downloaded file's name in any way. Do NOT try to open the file.
2. Tap the Settings icon in the Status bar at the top of your screen. Tap on All Settings, then tap on Device Information and make sure your NOOK battery charge is at 20% or more.
3. a) For Windows users: Connect your NOOK to your computer using the USB cable that came with your device. A new drive, named MyNOOK or BNTV400, should show up in My Computer. Open this drive and then open the Internal Storage folder within the drive.
From your computer, drag and drop the downloaded file onto the main directory of the Internal Storage folder. Do NOT open or unzip the file. You should not create a new folder on the NOOK drive or add the file to any other existing folder within Internal Storage.
b) For Mac users: Connect your NOOK to your computer using the USB cable that came with your device. A new, removable drive, named MyNOOK should appear on the desktop or in devices. Open the drive MyNOOK.
From your computer, drag and drop the downloaded file onto the top level of the MyNOOK drive. Do NOT open or unzip the file. You should not create a new folder on the MyNOOK drive or add the file to any other existing folder within the MyNOOK drive.
4. Eject or Safely Remove the NOOK drive after the file transfer is complete, and then disconnect your NOOK from your computer.
5. Your NOOK will automatically recognize the file after a few minutes when it goes into sleep mode, and proceed to install the updates.
6. Please do not turn off your NOOK during the installation process.
7. Once the installation is completed, your NOOK will automatically restart and go to the unlock screen.
8. Tap on the small "n" NOOK symbol that appears in the Status bar for additional information. The software has been successfully updated.
Your NOOK must remain turned on while the update is being installed. Once the software is installed, your NOOK will automatically restart. To verify you have the latest update, tap the Settings icon in the Status bar at the top of your screen, tap on All Settings, then tap on Device Information, and check to see that your Software version number matches the number at the top of this page.
Once the software update is completed, your NOOK will automatically restart. The software update will preserve your personal settings, including your registered account information, content, display settings, and Wi-Fi settings.
worked for me anyhow.....

I have the same issue but a slightly different end result. I'm in the same setup loop. The B&N help page says it needs the updated TLS info for security online. I can successfully download the proper file for my nook HD, but the help page says that it should connect as MyNOOK and that you only copy the file to that directory. My nook connects as BNTV400 and then shows a sub-directory of 'internal storage' like a camera would show up. Nowhere in the sub-directories is there a file or folder I can find called MyNOOK and that's not the name of the device when connected to my Win7 desktop or laptop. I spent a couple of hours exchanging messages with B&N via text chat last night and they finally gave up. I can't believe that mine is the only unit doing this.
So, in short, my nook successfully syncs with my computer(s) and I have successfully downloaded the needed TLS update file, I just don't know where to put it without potentially bricking the unit. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
------- Edited to add -------
After posting the above message, I checked a few more places and ran across someone with the exact problem I had - the nook was recognized but showed the name as BNTV400, not MyNOOK. He just copied the file over anyway and it worked, so I decided to try that too. In Windows Explorer, I copied the "sideload_2_2_update.npk" file over to the top directory, shown as internal storage. I set the nook aside and, a few minutes later, I noticed it was rebooting. It then went though several onscreen updates to apps then let me move beyond the place where it was previously stuck and I was able to connect to the internet and complete setup. I wanted to post this for future searchers...
The Barnes and Noble Nook first generation e-reader is officially discontinued today. Customers are now unable to purchase new content, register with a BN.com account, or sign in using a NOOK account. Users will still have access to their purchased content and are able to continue sideloading ebooks. If you log out of your B&N account or perform a factory reset, you will lose everything.
Barnes and Noble decided to discontinue this device for two reasons. Firstly the original Nook came out in 2009 and many users have switched to a different e-reader. The second is primarily due to B&N implementing new security standards, known as Transport Layer Security (TLS). TLS Versions below 1.2 are being phased out, and devices accessing the Internet that are not updated to utilize the required TLS Version will not be able to perform many functions related to Internet connectivity. This is why the bookseller issued a new firmware update for all of their e-readers and tablets.
I have 2 phones on the same wifi mac address and the same mac bluetooth. It was established for this it is that the handset 2 have restored the image of 1. I tried to upload a clean soft KK LG Flash Tool but without effect
And by that I can not upload anything between phones.
Where they are saved addresses WiFi and Bt?
How to change them? I searched and found nothing works: -
You have to fix it manually, the MAC address isn't stored within ROM modules, its specific for each phone like IMEI. If I recall correctly it's stored in one of the "persist" partitions.
I create ./persist/bluetooth/.bdaddr and ./persist/wifi/.macaddr - without result. Any idea?
I change mac BT ftom this post and it's works!
There is only WiFi mac...
Sorry, I probably gave you the wrong information. MAC addresses for BT and Wi-Fi usually are hard-coded, both may be visible in the label inside battery compartment. Both are saved in /data once device boots, so if you have used a full backup from phone on another that's why you ended with same MAC addresses.
There are some apps that can spoof the Wi-Fi MAC address if you want to make some tests. I can't help finding the exact file where it's stored because I don't have a L90 anymore. A factory reset (wipe data partition) should fix it if the bootstack is working fine.
Case closed. A factory reset or flashing mode recovery its original ROM including the LG Flash Tool does not bring results.
It turned out that the method used for Bluetooth also works correctly on WiFi! - This is a simple and effective way to change mac BT and WiFi.
Hi,
I’m from Portugal and I’ve bought a Mi5 some days ago.
I have a problem for which I don’t find any solution.
The phone came with a modified fake ROM from the Chinese store but was working fine.
I unlocked the phone and installed TWRP to flash other ROMs. I flashed MIUI 8 global stable and a custom ROM from Xiaomi.eu without any problem.
Everything was working fine with the phone but I noticed that a lot of files from prior fake ROM (the one from the Chinese store) remained in the phone. So I decided to swipe everything in TWRP (including system and internal storage) and flashed MIUI Global Stable ROM again.
From this point, I never again been able to connect to a WiFi network and the 2G, 3G LTE connection became very weak and instable. The phone scan the wifi network available without problem, but after introducing the password, it tries to connect and just shows “Savedâ€.
I tried a lot of stuff. Static IP, reboot router, change router channel, change router security settings, flash different ROM, tweak build.prop file, but the problem persist.
In the phone test menu, when I try to connect to a WiFi I see that the phone scan, connect, disconnect, scan, connect, disconnect…
Any help?
Do you think it’s Hardware related issue? Or phone firmware and driver problem?
I’ll be very grateful for any assistance.
Hello
Yesterday I got the phone and I have exactly the same situation. Tried the same things, also flashing RR Nougat, RR Marshmallow, MIUI 7 and 8. Wifi isn't working in any situation. Did you solve it? Anyone have some ideas with it?
try another ROM
Just try the ROM "cm-13.0-20161211-NIGHTLY-gemini" .
My mi5 had the same problem when I got it, so I try unlock, bootloader, new cm14 rom, even went to change sim card, cause can't access 4G, still no luck. Then I backed to official ROM, factory reset, still have wifi and 4G problem. Finally after try the cm13 ROM, every thing became fine. It took me 5 days to resolved it.
FYI, mi5 's wifi signal strength is poor than others as so many complain you can see on the miui forum.
Tried that CM build, still nothing. I found in dev tools option to debug WIFI, and all the time I have RSSI of -127, even if I'm literally 1m from source (also I tried many sources). I'm out if ideas. Also It's not reception problem, because original ROM (like OP, probably fake global MIUI) had WIFI working just fine for me.
I have exactly the same situation.
I'll try the ROM "cm-13.0-20161211-NIGHTLY-gemini".
Thanks!!!

Hello friend, do you have the link for me to download this ROM?
Many thanks for helping.
I had the same problem, same symptoms.
I too flashed a new ROM and couldn't connect to any AP, I tried various ROMS, MIUI 7 & 8 and CM 13 & 14.1.
Though I think I found a solution (it worked for me ). I simply changed my MAC-adress and I was able to connect to my home WiFi.
I'm running CM 14.1-2016225-NIGHTLY-gemini on MI5.
This is what I did to fix my WiFi:
First prepare an new MAC-address. I personally don't know when a MAC-address is considered valid, so I just took one from an other device. I used the mac address of my previous mobile phone, which could connect to my router.
1. Disable WiFi.
3. Enable debugger settings (Setting>about Phone>Press build number repeatedly).
2. Enable root (Develepor settings>root access set to "Apps and ADB").
3. Open the file manager app.
4. Give the file manager app root access (menu>Settings(cog in lower left corner)>General settings>Access mode set this on "Root Access mode").
5. Now find the file root/etc/firmware/wlan/qca_cld/ and open wlan_mac.bin.
You should see something similar to:
Code:
Intf0MacAddress=XXXXXXXXXXXX
Intf1MacAddress=XXXXXXXXXXXX
END
6. Change the first to your new MAC-address, but first write down the old one, so you can change it back if this method doesn't work for you.
The last X of the next line should be a digit higher than the previous line. E.g:
Code:
Intf0MacAddress=957FDC328BF[B]4[/B]
Intf1MacAddress=957FDC328BF[B]5[/B]
END
(This MAC-address most likely won't work).
7. Save the file. You might need to press the save button a few times.
8. Check if the file has changed.
9. Check if you MAC-address has changed (Settings>WiFI>Configure-WIFI(cog in right upper corner)).
10. Enable WiFi.
I hope this works for everyone that has the same problem.

I'll try this procedure too, thank you very much Pekkuky.
I'll be back to talk if it fired, thanks for the help.
I tried to install the ROM that bajak85 suggested and it did not work for me, however I tried the procedure that pekkuky taught in ROM Xiaomi.eu 8.1.7.0 Nougat (ROM that bajak85 suggested) and it started to work, changing the MAC address worked for me too.
I did exactly as taught by Pekkuky and tried with another randomly generated MAC. That also worked.
Thank you all for the help and thank you very much Pekkuky, saved my life with this tip.

I needed to forget the network and try again too, try this too, make sure the MAC has really changed and forget the wifi network and try again.
Good luck. :good::good:

Are the same step above??
Why my wlan file, the latest one is not an number??
Sorry for my bad, help me please,i have been try this way,but still same
My apologies for posting a question on what is most likely the wrong forum - but after 15-minutes of searching, I could not find the right forum for a new Galaxy Tab Active 2 question.
This is a question more related to software and may be more generic ?
My wife is the owner of a new Galaxy Tab Active 2 , and she is struggling to have her many Android applications installed not on the 16-GByte internal memory, but instead on a 128 GB microSD card she has in the Tablet. She has found various guides, but they either are not applicable to Active2 (as their menu options don't exist on Active 2) or they simply only work for some apps but not the necessary/important to her applications that she wants to transfer to the microSD card. In particular she would like the application "Line" ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.naver.line.android&hl=en ) and also "WhatsAPP' (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whatsapp&hl=en) configured such that all their data goes on the microSD card. Unfortunately (especially for Line) she has not been able to do such.
Can anyone point me to the correct forum area ?
Again - my apologies for likely posting in the wrong area.
I own tab active 2 sm-390 too. 16gb is really not enough. We can only wait some professional to root the machine. Once root, we can try 'adaptive storage' or other app like 'App2SD' to save internal storage.
Just want to update you that I solve the storage problem.
1) You need to download the firmwire , extract the 'boot.img' file. Then, copy the file to your tablet.
2) Then, you have to install Magisk Manager and run the manager to patch the 'Boot.img'. In setting, remember to set the output file to odin format.
3) Copy the patched file to computer. In computer, run odin to install the patched file to tablet.
4) The tablet will then be reset. Now, the tablet is already rooted.
5) Then, run Apps2SD, you can move all apps to SD.
I am now have around 50 apps installed.
Please a step by step
Awesome!
You are such a genius to give us this good news
Can you please provide us a step by step guide and also the links to the files so that we can follow.
Thank you so much
How are you getting root.
I have the galaxy tab active 2 / T395 and have tried all the stand alone apks out there that claim they can root any android device; 'KingRoot, KingoRoot, OneClickRoot, z4mod.z4root, Rootmaster and Framaroot'. But do absolutely nothing for the T395 active 2.
However I can confirm that 'mark.mccv' method of rooting DOES WORK for the T395.
I guess the days of using CF-Auto Root & TWRP are over for the newer Nougat 7.1.1

You forgot to mention, when installing the 'patched_boot.img' you need to turn 'OFF' both the FRP & OEM locks. Otherwise, when trying to flash the 'patched_boot.img' through Odin on the PC.
The devices download screen shows 'custom binary boot file' blocked by the FRP & OEM locks......
For anyone stuck on this ROOT process , you turn off the FRP lock by just deleting your Google accounts from your devices settings page.
Remove, turn OFF the OEM lock , by going to 'settings' > 'developers tools' > 'oem unlock'
On flashing the patched_boot.img , you will see a verification screen page after reboot, which forces you to reset, reformat your device. So back up your files beforehand.
Once reset, your device is rooted, ready to install busybox , adaway etc.
Well Crap...I just got my Nice, New, Sparkleing Tab Active2 and cant root it yet. I have the New US version SM-T397U Unlocked model. cant find a Stock firmware on Sammobile as of yet...any ideas?
EDIT: Neeeevermind... I did a lil hacking and cracking (for about 26min, lol) to find the files I needed for the SM-T397U. If anyone is looking for em let me know and I'll shoot em' your way. Guessing I'm the first person to root a T397U, hope more will follow. I havent even had this thing 6 hours yet. Thanks for the write up and all those that contributed to the tools and info.
Crap: posetd this is two threads, realized i was typeing in the wrong one, cut and pasted and still hit send. oops
Worked perfectly, Thank you very much!
WARNING: THIS WILL WIPE EVERYTHING ON YOUR TABLET.
Backup all of your important files before you flash the patched boot.img using odin.
I tried to backup my app data using samsung switch and it worked, but didn't restore most of my device settings and all of my app data.
(Good thing I kept backups for my important apps that had in app backup functionality - like Nova launcher and Squid)
Also, If you are having any trouble, then you can take a look at this thread (more detailed): https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab/help/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-tab-active-2-t3775664
Last thing, you probably won't be able to get OTA updates after you perform these steps, it doesn't matter though since this tablet isn't going to be updated that frequently (The 8.0 update is going to come at the end of 2018, source)
Did App data remain after rooting

Hi mark.mccv
Please confirm if the data remained (i.e. was not erased) after the rooting?
Thanks in advance.
I just came across a little gem, my uncle Gave me his T397U that he used to use for work, but has since upgraded!!!! I was so stoked until I powered up to realize that’s its full on knox mdm and is running what I’m assuming is the OS from his job, accessing reg samsung os at all is only possible through safe mode at the present moment ...I apologize if I’m in the wrong area, I’m vey New and honestly not even navigating around the boards to efficiently just yet ! Hopefully someone will want to throw me a bone! Thank you all for the amazing plethora of information!!!!
Hi there,
last morning my G Watch R rebooted and after that there was some kind of bootloop, the Google animation started and after some time just stopped and the watch rebooted. I put it in Fastboot mode and charged it for some time, then i picked it up and noticed it already rebooted and this time it was working... But now I have the Problem that bluetooth is not workng anymore, in System Settings it shows the device name without the 4 numerical characters just as 'G Watch R'... After enabling developer mode and starting an ADB shell I did a 'logcat' and there seems to be an issue with the file '/data/misc/bluedroid/bt_config.conf, which can't be accessed to start the bluetooth stack. So I installed TWRP on the watch and went to the mentioned path just to see there is no single file in there... I looked on my phone in the same path and there are 3 files, 1. bt_config.conf, 2. bt_config.bak and 3. bt_fw_version.txt. Does anyone know how I could restore those files, I already tried flashing the latest firmware but I guess those files are not included in the updates because they contain data like MAC Address and so on. May be someone can take a look at his files on the watch and post them here without data like MAC and so, so I can try to put them back to where they belong with my own data... I guess my flash somehow got corrupted and so the files are gone.
