Hi all,
I'm having an odd issue. No matter whether I used Odin or Smart Switch I can simply not flash a stock firmware. Regardless of the method, the following always happens.
Downloads firmware to device
Reboots
Shows Android dude with "Installing update"
Stops half way through
Shows Android dude with "Erasing"
Disappears after few seconds
Reboots
Nothing is changed. Same as before the whole process...

Make sure you uncheck auto reboot in Odin! Do not allow it to reboot the phone! Flash the stock firmware again and after it says success unplug the phone and immediately press and hold the volume down button and power button at the same time and when the screen comes back on select factory reset and after its finished the phone will reboot on it's own and you're done it should work correctly.

That's because you are trying to to root it I'm guessing? You either flashed the wrong kernel, or you actually did not turn on oem unlock in developer options. You'll need to restore it back to stock and then turn on oem unlock then flash a kernel/recovery and then retry what you're trying to do.

Fair enough. Where can I get the stock Kernel so I can get back into the OS? I keep finding bad ones with unmatching MD5s.

Make sure you uncheck auto reboot in Odin and as soon as it's done and says success disconnect the phone and immediately press and hold the volume down button and the power button at the same time and when the screen comes back up you HAVE to select factory reset wipe if you don't you'll be stuck again just let the little android dude install the update and then the phone will reboot and you'll be ok.

LOL it's better to extract the .tar from the md5 so it doesn't have to be verified which is what's causing it to not work for you.

Shoot sorry I should have mentioned that it was going to erase everything (I found out the hard way to lol) But even if I had known that I wouldn't have been able to get them back anyway once you can't get in to change the settings to file transfer.. I'm glad I back everything up to my laptop! The phone companies are locking the phones down tightly "for our own interests they say" which is BS and totally goes against what Android open source is supposed to be about!!!

Probably not a development question.
What did you do to make it do that?
I was trying to flash a rom, and it was taking long and not working,
So I stooped it, and tried turning it back on, and now it won't work.

Use ODIN3 to reflash. And you should post problems in the ROM's thread, not start a new one. And do a lot more reading...
Sounds like a bad flash. Down load the Odin one click JF6 and falsh back to stock. Once the phone boots up, put into USB debugging mode, master clear, root and install CWM. From there just install the ROM you like by following the instructions of the Dev. Hope this helps!
That's the thing, the phone wont boot! It goes to the Galaxy s logo, then goes blank.

FYI-If a flash is taking a long time it usually means it is installing a LagFix option. Dont ever stop an install before it is complete. This will cause the phone to become inoperable until you Odin back to stock.
So, will you guys show me what to do?

Do this
1) GO to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989 . Download I897UCJF6 - Odin3 One-Click Downloader:
http://www.thevod.org/misc/captivate...l-OCD-REV0.rar
2) Shutdown phone. Remove SIM and External SD Card.
3) Run the exe you just downloaded by Right clicking and then selecting "Run as administrator".
4) Put the phone in download mode. See instructions below
Remove the battery, sim card, sdcard if you have one
Insert the battery
Hold both Volume buttons (from i9000 just down, don't touch the power button)
Plug in the USB cable and continue holding both Volume buttons
5) Confirm that the phone is indeed in Download mode. You should see Yellow Triangle
6) Click Start
7) Wait for it to complete. You are now back to stock ROM.
Extra: Flashing to stock ROM will disable your ability to go to recovery/download mode using button combo. Please apply 3 button lagfix

What are you talking about? This is massively incorrect. You only lose your 3 buttons ability to enter recovery or download mode depending on your particular phone. i have always had it working, have flashed back to stock countless times, and have never either lost my 3 buttons ability or needed the "3 button fix".
Look under your battery. There is a # on the sticker, i believe beneath the serial #. It is 100x.
1006=fine, no probs.
1007=iffy, some good and some bad.
1008=3button fix REQUIRED almost every time......

I have 1008. I lose 3 button combo everytime I flash to stock. Anyway there is no harm in reapplying it so why not recommend it? I don't want the OP to lose the ability.

Although you are correct that the one-click doesn't kill the button combos on all phones, it does on most batch 1008 phones and maybe all newer phones. It's a good idea to point people to the flasher that you know won't disable the combos, particularly when the person you are trying to help is pretty clueless about how all this stuff works.

After flashing 2.3.3 from stock, odin shows PASS. However, I was expecting tha tab to reboot automatically but it didnt. What should I do? It's still in DL mode. Odin is still open too.

just wait till complete booting it take 5 - 7 mins
thanks for the reply.. i waited 10 minutes but it did not boot. the tutorial video on you tube shows the tab booting immediately after firmware flashing.
anyhow, I flashed again, and my tab booted immediately after.
I actually had this problem too...but instead of flashing again (Not even sure what this exactly means), I manually rebooted it...is there a way to go back?
flashing again means, after flashing firmware, my tab did not reboot and is still in download mode. what i did is to close odin and open again, and repeat the firmware flashing without turning the tab off. if you did turn the tab off, try going into download mode, and if odin can detect your tab, just flash again. and please, carefully read and reread the instructions.
hit thanks if I helped.
This doesn't matter too much...but is it normal for the Tab to say things about restoring operations upon boot up?

anyhow, as long as your tab is working and has gingerbread in it,
If you happen to use the firmware file with the dbdata iwhen you reboot the first time you will see on the screen that the dbdata is loaded.....
Did you have reboot option ticked in ODIN. Simple thing but its the simple things that are the biggest stumbling blocks....

Somethings not right. If you flash the pit file make sure you flash all 4 files. I dont see a reason why it shouldnt work. If it still has that after you flash boot into recovery and factory reset. It should work. Its easy to soft brick than to hard brick. As long as you can get into download mode you should be fine.

It goes straight to download screen or before this you got option to press volume up or down? Did you try to get to recovery mode by pressing combination of volume up , home button and power button then let all go when samsung logo show up with little blue writing on left top of phone. If you get to recovery try to clean cache. If you can't and after you try to flash back to stock still going straight to download mode must be hardware issue.
Why do the newer users call anything that doesn't boot properly "Bricked ?"
Believe me you'll know when and if your ever able to successfully achieve it....

You tried flashing the boot loader thru Odin am I right? Did you try flashing the whole Firmware thru Odin? Did you put the phone on Download mode? Remember to take the battery out then boot to download mode by pressing and holding volume down+home+power button for about 3 seconds then let them go, phone will boot into Download mode, the connect your phone to pc, then Open Odin, make sure the Odin :COM is on light blue meaning they are both communicating, then go to www.sammobile.com and download the latest firmware for your device model, and follow the instructions, it have to work, but your phone will be restored to factory, good luck, cheers:fingers-crossed:

Kies doesn't register it... it just says connecting. I tried to kies 3 and 2.6 just to make sure.
It sounds like the issue is with your USB cable maybe try a different USB port preferred in the back of the system not one upfront. Make sure you have mock locations and USB debugging on. The only reason keys wouldn't detect your device is if the drivers are incorrect
There's a feature "Reactivation Lock" in security settings. Make sure it is unchecked. It is a security feature to prevent anyone from changing your system Rom.

Sorry I don't have time to help you work through this. But you're not bricked. Do the process again. Try switching up your usb ports and cables. Try clicking the bootloader check and try loading the csc file when you flash everything. And hold the buttons longer than you think you should to return to download mode. Galaxy Note 8 screen is normal. You are likely already rooted and can get away with only redoing the second part.

You've tried all these things? You've restarted your phone? It seems you are really pretty close and could just power through. But I don't see any reason you can't return to stock. That may take you longer if you don't have the file and if you don't know how to get back.

Thats what i did.
1rst. Flash system tar. + Pit
I wait, until the process says FAILED.
After this failed message my phone just stuck on Download mode and dont restart by itself. I decide to use combo to power it off and turn it on again into download mode.
2nd.
I place the other 3 files in odin And flash it, following the steps from Samfail thread.
Reboot and get stuck on this screen now what can be ?

on part 1 it NEEDS to reboot to upload on its own. you had a failed flash. try again.
EDIT: also pic 1 is showing what happens with a failed part1 flash.

I would Odin back to stock and start over. When it happened to me I had to use regular Odin to flash it. And then I started over and got it to work.

Still trying to flash rev2.5 maybe thats where i went wrong? Its too late now. I can only get into upload and download mode. Trying to flash stock but having fail issues in reg odin and comsy. Im actually so lost now that I dont even know what to flash. Bricked? Anyone have any ideas? Ive tried everything i have seen on this thread and others with no luck. My phone displays all of the same pictures as in page 1. Im have ATT if that helps.
Thanks and sorry if i misread something to get to where i am now. Ive been doing different root methods since i had a droid x. Never had this issue before when flashing with odin. Ive always worked my way out. Maybe i need a break.....

now, after trying to get back into download mode and the samsung logo popped up and was flashing from light to dark. after about 5 minutes it said "android is starting", a few minutes later it went to a charging screen. now i cant get anywhere... lol..
battery died
Charge the phone leave it in charger.
Get into download mode and flash your stock image with Prince comsy Odin with the data bootflag and the bootloader flag ticket, you can do this by adding a 1 in the .ini file. Flash the stock image and then reboot
Then if you want try to flash again the 2.5 version
If you are an unlocked carrier make sure to flash the csc file I posted in the samfail thread somewhere
I had the same problem you had until I flashed the unlocked csc file

Same here but WORSE
The same thing happened to me except mine doesn’t have that message on second screen that yours does it reboots and system mount failure and to top it all off IT ENABLED FRP LOCK SECRURE FOLDER ALL THAT how can I possibly. Bypass this so I can reflash the stock firmware I do root phones as a side hustle I’m pretty well known I’m my town for being the tech guy. This isn’t my phone but I DO have the email and password I just can’t disable the frp is there a way UCSB deactivate it on my google account perhaps?
