Can I upgrade my Moto X 1st Gen to 4.4.4 - Moto X Q&A

Hi, I just bought a US Cellular Moto X 2013 with 4.2.2. I can't seem to upgrade it over the air or on my PC. Anyway, I like 4.4 and thought I might upgrade to just that, if possible. Any thoughts?

Yes, I've done it with a sprint phone, I think I used fastboot method.

Thanks I'm a newbie at this, could you direct me to instructions on the Factbook method?

Brand new verizon moto x on 4.4 Locked boot and going to attempt root, can I copy my 4.4 to reapply so i dont have to take the OTA 4.4 when I get to that step?
BTW if anyone is interested design your moto X is still shipping with 4.4 not 4.4.2 I ordered one 2 weeks ago and it came with 4.4 so i ordered another for my brother and it had 4.4 also. If you order it from Verizon's website you will get 4.4.2 though and will not be able to root.
I don't think so. You need to follow the instructions to the letter.
Even if you could backup 4.4....restoring it would erase what you did to root 4.2.2. That's why it is how it is. You take the ota and keeps root. Restoring a backup wipes everything.

Unlike me (I'm already rooted), it's possibly better to wait rooting your phone until your lollipop update is on your Phone. Undoubtedly after that many people wil succeed in rooting lollipop (also on the Moto G 2014).
I think it's not impossible that I'll have to unroot, unlock the bootloader and restore stock recovery before I can update...
best thing to do is wait until someone get a way of rooting android lollipop on the moto g 2nd gen, if not, you could end whit a unrootable phone (i dont think it is probably but sure it is possible)

Lollipop update on MotoX 2014 edition

Hi Folks,
I am using Moto X Gen 2 edition from India.
I want to update the device to Android Lollipop without rooting it.
I dont want to wait till it reaches India & wish to have the update now.
Any tips or suggestions on this?
Thanks.
Have a look at my following link. Confirmed working by several others including me. Just follow the guide from bottom to top.

If you won't get familiar with that guide DON'T try to upgrade your phone if you don't want a 499$ paperweight.
Couple of things you might want to check, is the boot loader unlocked and what model number you have. Coming from Samsung phones, if you flash the wrong file on the same phone with a different model number you can brick it. Not sure how this applies to Motorola....

Republic Wireless Moto X rooted, update

My Republic Wireless Moto X 1st gen is rooted and has Safestrap installed. It's running 4.4.2 and wants to update.
I've searched but there is so much different information on this subject that I'm not sure what to do. Can someone either give me a link that will tell me what to do to update, or what additional info is needed to know what route I need to take?
Thanks
Joe
You'd need to return fully stock to update. And, you will permanently lose root. Unless you use Sunshine to unlock your bootloader..... Before going to 4.4.4 of higher.
Check the "complete moto X guide" in general to return to stock 4.4.2. :good:

[Q] Possible to donwgrade to kitkat on VZW?

As the title says, run across a few differing posts - but is it possible to downgrade to kitkat from Lollipop on a verizon moto x?
I found this guide, which doesn't specify non vzw, so I'm wondering if its possible. TIA!
You would need root to do that, which doesn't exist on vzw moto x yet.
you can
this information is wrong, as i've done it twice via rsdlite. once, because i tried to install a 5.1 OTA i found from a brazil carrier via fastboot and mucked up my phone, second time just because i was curious. It works and i'll prove it if need be.

so can you link or post a tutorial?
and just to double check - you are on a non-Pure version on verizon?
