Why not make the SuperSU app a source to get flashable zips? - SuperSU

Right now the app is just for managing Superuser settings, if you don't have root access the app won't open.
Surely it makes sense for the app to also be a place to download either the latest stable or beta flashable zip?

I just installed Cm 7 alpha 3 and I am trying to install the latest Skype but it fails when I just run the . apk and when I go into cwm I do not have the install. Apk?
Anyone know how I can install this..?

you dont install apks in cwm, you do it in android.
go to settings-> applications, and check the unknown sources box
then go to the file manager built into android, navigate to the apk, and then click on it. you will be prompted to install the app.
hit install and it will be installed.
Cheers, I will try that tomorrow.

"File Manager" is not built in to the version Sony Ericsson uses. Glad to see it on the TouchPad though. Let me ask: Is there a "notepad" or "notes" app that is supposed to be built in? SE didn't include one of those either.
If you're looking for an amazing file explorer replacement ES File Explorer is AMAZING! It looks great, has gesture support and even skins/themes.

I've actually used it before and I do agree: It's good. I was just curious about the "built in" statement because, to my knowledge, there is no standard one "built in" to Android and it can be a problem.
CM7 has one built it but a pure AOSP build like the SDK doesn't IIRC.

Download one from Play Store. ES should get you started.
I use file manager hd, from rhythm software, available free in the play store. Use the version for tablets, it works great.
Why are you using CM7?

Well what Rom have you Flashed? The more information you provide the easier it is to provide an answer, as the gapps will vary depending on your Rom.

[Q] Coming From Jailbroken IOS, Is there a Flashed ZIP/Rom/Kernal Manager. AKA Cydia?

I've been browsing here for awhile, and always see people preferring flashable zips rather then apps. My question is how do you keep track of these?
Haven't gotten my nexus yet (January 10th ): but I assume when you enter recovery, and select a zip to install it keeps a copy of the zip somewhere. Is there any application (the equivalent to cydia) that keeps track of installed things and gives options to re-install/remove zips? This is going to be my first android devices, so forgive me if this is false :S
Something like Xposed? Its not available for Lollipop / ART yet.
http://repo.xposed.info/module-overview
Most of these "tweaks" are in custom roms anyways.
No. You usually have your zips in a folder (Downloads, for me). Be sure to make a backup in recovery. Once you install a zip, it is permanent unless the creator made an uninstall zip(uncommon). So the only way to recover is from a backup. So usually mods will be apps to save this inconvenience. The only thing like cydia is TWRP manager which is an easy way to interface with recovery mode.

TWRP will become your best friend. Backup your phone using TWRP recovery onto a OTG drive so you can restore it if SHTF and you some how brick your phone. I keep all of my zip files in a folder within my downloads so it's easy to see them.
Ok so Xposed is sorta like Cydia Substrate, as in besides the framework itself no code is changed to the system, it's all done in real time? So you don't have to flash a stock rom again if something screws up?

Right. But usually any tweaks with Xposed are graphical or convince. If you wanted to flash a new ROM or a kernel, you can't use closed for it. I've been using root for about 3 years, and only ever used about 4 xposed modules.

@jamcswain So when you flash an installable zip your really just automatically changing a file in your rom?

Eh. Kinda. If you flash a zip file, it can do most anything, but usually it runs a script(for things like root, gapps, etc.), or just copies files. Like I have a zip for a sound mod. I flash it and it takes the old sound drivers in /system and puts in the modded ones instead. It is a permanent tweak. Whereas xposed is dependent on the framework, not the ROM. And xposed isn't available for lollipop yet. Basically, (I'm trying to have this make sense), xposed is very limited and flashable zips are infinite. Xposed is independent of the ROM, and modifies apps, while zips usually modify the ROM.

I think you'll enjoy it the learning curve takes a while coming from iOS but the customization and tweaks you can do on Android are endless and iOS is very limited on what you can do.

[MOD][CM13][WTT88047] Script mod for Xposed survival across updates for cm13 roms.

Disclaimer: This is not my original work, I'm just sharing this from this original thread, all credits go to @objr and @adlx.xda
A brief description of the mod:
/system/addon.d is a folder in cm13 roms where you put scripts that should run when you flash a new version of the rom. SuperSU uses this feature to maintain root across OTA's. This mod has an addon.d script that backs up all the Xposed module files that were installed in the system prior to flashing, and restores them afterwards thereby securing Xposed support across dirty flashes.
I personally have tested this mod on my 2014818 and it worked flawlessly while upgrading from the official cm13 13'th May nightly to 16'th May nightly. For confirmation, I tested again today while flashing the 17'th May nightly and it still works as intended. The Xposed framework was still installed and the activated modules already running.
Install instructions:
Nothing complex, just flash the 81-Xposed-update-signed.zip file via recovery and you're good to go:good:
If you can't flash the file for some reason, download Xposed-manual.zip, extract the .sh file, move it to /system/addon.d and set permissions to -rwx-xr-x by any root file manager of your choice.
Will it work for Xposed v84 sdk 23?

The Pro version is not available as a zip file.
Though, I've created one of my own, you can too by using the App2zip app (available on the Play Store) and selecting the SuperSU Pro.
I'm sorry, i don't distribute the Pro app or zip files and I can only advise you to do the same when you create one.
EDIT: As an FYI... When you do create one, be sure to keep in mind, when Chainfire releases a newer stable version (in the Play Store), he also updates the Pro version too, so you'll need to create another zip file of the new Pro version. Just in case you didn't know/realize this... The Pro version of SuperSU is only a key that unlocks the Pro features of the Free version. So the free version is required to be installed (app or zip) FIRST, BEFORE you install the Pro version (app or zip) or it can potentially create a headache with SuperSU.

Hey, i have a S3 Mini I8200N, ur included .apk isnt working for me. It has 480dpi, i downloaded 240DPI latest version, and for some reason it is only flashing if im using the 2.6 Beta installer, the 2.8 installer cant even find the .mdar file (idk how it is called). Btw i am using TWRP.
Can you please tell me wich file i have to choose?
I selected the latest version, i also tried it out with older versions (3Hours+). I rooted my Device with KingRoot. I want to use root themed BLACK.
I choose this file ---> minAPI16 arm 240dpi Black MD5. Is api16 right? I am using 4.2.2 Vers. JB.
TWRP told me the flash was succesfully. The app isnt installed after reboot.
And yea i know this apk u included in the isntaller is for the oneplus, but yea it insnt working with the file for my S3 mini. (i dont really know wich file to chose) Maybe you can help me, and yea i know you are not the developer of this.

Not this version no but if you search google for the non root vanced youtube that one works fine , you just have to force stop/disable the normal youtube app on your device....
