Sony Xperia Z5 (E6653) stock no root
Quality is better or worst that Sony stock?
Sent from my E6653 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Hard to say, just test it out ?
Now I've Tested it and the quality isn't soo good.. But 23mp support. Slowly it goes up Hill with camera support
Sony Xperia Z5 (E6653) stock no root
I test it in low light, it is better than sony cameraui.
But no any option to change scenes or change ev or white balance or iso
Thanks bro!
8mp looks better than 20mp though, but overall lowlight pictures seems better than stock Sony cam

Their software isn't that bad at all, there's just still space for improvement.
Most people use 20 or 23 Mp, which will give lots of noise because there's a lot data captured and Sony processing the image a bit harder then.
I mainly use 8mp, in fact, it's the only resolution I use since photos come out much better.
Only when u zoom in on a taken picture u see 20 or 23mp has bit more detail but in general I would just recommend 8mp.

This is just a basic camera, there is no much options,
camera does not have image stabilization, you can only have full hd resoultion of the video recording, also no manual settings support.
And I would not say HTC Camera is better than Sony camera app, it is just the same or maybe little worst.
Camera ICS+ 1.7.0. - another third party camera app, which support full resolution on Z5. Working fine! ?

Fantastic, thank you for the update, I had uninstalled the ICS+ camera app and was not aware of the rescent update in the latest release. Just tested it and it is working really good, simple without clutter, quick startup and can even record 4k movies.
I made a quick un-scientific comparison between ICS+ 1.7.0 and stock camera, and I prefered the result from ICS+ 1.7.0. details was better perserfed and not overoptimized. More manual controls and I will be very happy.

sorry to burst the bubble in general , camera F-V5 is the worst quality camera app i have ever seen.
never they could ever support any SONY device with ISO control. (used, xperia P, U, T, TX , V, Z, Z1c and now Z5 DSDS)
Open camera now gives the control to enable Camera 2 API on Xperia Z5
and thus I can control shutter speed from 1/10s to 1/10000s with manual ISO from 50 to 3200
which is very cool
but open camera doesnt support full 23 MP resolution , so stuck at 8 MP which sucks
if only Camera FV-5 guys could implement Camera 2 API for Xperia Z5 or Open Camera developers could manage to access full resolution of the IMX300 sensor !!!! it would be unbeatable

I don't think Sony have released Camera 2 API for our devices which means it shouldn't exist on any other app when using it.

WRONG.
Sony did implemented the partial Camera2 API into the Z5 firmware . It only lacks the DNG RAW support as sony never wrote the code for the actual bayer array data type in the camera driver for IMX300 sensor.
The only good thing is that IMX300 does support RAW capture in terms of hardware lanes and bus speed.
SONY just needs to write codes for bayer array data type and implement the Camera2 API to access that globally.
right now using Camera2 API 2 apps in the market are able to control shutter speed and ISO individually to capture very nice quality images
1- Open Camera
2 - Manual Camera
but both of em are only capable of 8 MP shots. (app manufacturers fault )
Sony fault is that they have limit the shutter speed between only 1/10s to 1/10000s
which is grate for upper limit i guess as high end DSLRs only support 1/8000s shutter speed and u never need more than that but slow shutter is very desirable, at least up to 30s flat if not possible to implement the BULB.
Probably not worth mentioning but if I could get my hands on the actual IMX300 driver source code I would do the coding myself for sure. I have written (edited , added ) Sony Ericsson K750i's camera driver (CAMDRIVER0.DAT) in assembly with several new functions to implement BULB shutter speed and multiple strike flashes, extreme saturation and so on.......

Open Camera is an Open source project am I right? can we just implement the 23 MP support?
If you know anything about it I would be glad to let me know if you have any clue on it
EDIT: now that I check the open camera codes there has been an implementation fix for maximum resolution for Z5 ... and it seemed to worked when I compiled it
EDIT2: Sorry my mistake I have mistakenly downloaded A Better Camera codes and that actually have fixed the Z5 camera ... however it looks like that for Xperia Z5 to have 23MP camera it has disabled the Camera2 API 2 in order to works ...
It's looking okay for me, still should look much better with a 23mp camera.

You should try Normal mode or Burst to Capture better pictures and the latest stock version's camera is at its Best I guess except Low Light pictures which are a bit Grainy!
indeed , our camera is not that great compared to S4's , why is that ? are there any apps that can be used to greatly automatically enhance our camera experience ? or are there some special settings ? or just leave it on superior auto ? on normal mode I find the pictures worse

Looking at the hardware side of the camera on the Z is good, but Sony still needs to work on the software for the camera, there should be more optimization.

Try other cameras. LG Camera is a great one and works on other than LG phones.
I'm fairly sure that the stock camera creates awful JPEG pictures with bad compression. I'm not sure if there are any 3rd party cameras that capture lossless .PNG stills?

LG Camera takes clear PNG photos even on low end phones.
I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before when Xperia Z was released early this year. It was petty bad compares to latest firmwares. Few people tried improving this with different camera apps and build prop editing etc. And we all came to the conclusion only Sony has the ability to fully improve the XZ camera. You may notice better picture quality with different camera apps due to iso profiles and other colour setting handled by specific third party camera apps. But the jpeg compression and other things still remains unchanged as they are depends on camera libs which is closed source and only Sony can improve them

Hey guys, I was curious if there is any method to take a long exposure photo on our Z1. I guess hardware is capable of doing that for sure. Tried to search exposure options in stock camera and Google camera, unfortunately didn't find anything. Is there any mod which would let me take a long exposure photos? Found some apps @ google play, but only one worked and could take photos @ 0.9MP 1280x720 so thats way too low.
Looking forward to answers.

As I said above, there is one application that is working like it should (setting delay/aperture) but the major problem is that it take only 1280x720 resolution photos, far too small (but still it does the job, photos looked like on my old panasonic). If I could take photos with at least 12MP or 21MP it'd be awesome.

i know there apps for this
some time ago i was looking also for this feature and i only can remember that this apps do not take realy long exposure images as you get them out of a dslr or normal digicam. i also read that this is not possible because android os system is not supporting this feature yet. think the problem was/is that you cannot fully control shutter time.
maybe i am wrong, but then there would be a lot of apps with this image mode and i also think sony would support this on their phones too.

i think those apps that claim to do long exposure are using video instead of photo as a form of long exposure trickery. e.g. taking 10 seconds of video and merging it into 1 single photo. why they are limited to 720p or 1080p.
not a photo expert so i could be wrong

The sole reason why they were able to do this is because they are utilizing the viewfinder. Which means they are taking pictures from viewfinder not directly from the camera and also hence the reason why it's only too small. The viewfinder size I think depends on your display hence if you have a 4k screen I think you can get a 8mp shot with this.
I remembered I read a very detailed explanation on why long exposures aren't possible on Android devices without some workaround, so I googled and found the answer. This is what the developers of Camera FV-5 say (an app that features 'long exposure' through viewfinder capture):
"In Android there is no support as of now for long exposures (longer than half of a second). Therefore, Camera FV-5 capture the sensor live view feed directly and perform the exposure by software. The problem is that, given that the application need the sensor feed, it is limited to the maximum resolution the camera driver provides live view feed. That maximum resolution is often bigger than the screen resolution of your phone, but still, no phone provides full resolution sensor feeds to applications. On most phones, the maximum feed resolution is 1 MP, while on newer phones is 2 MP. There is no other way to achieve true long exposures without camera driver support."

I guess we'll have to wait for Google to release an Android version that supports long exposures for all devices, or Sony to provide drivers with an update.
Can't come soon enough I'd say..!
Cool! Hah! I was right I'm not still sure though but I think it's doable to forward the full camera output to viewfinder but I'm not sure how it would work out. Maybe they could hijack the buffer from /dev/video*
Anyways I'm not app developer hence I can't do this.

It is a shame this is not part of all new Android devices. I had a chance to test the 8 sec long exposure on Oppo N1 (review here) and the results where just extraordinary for a smartphone.

Hello fellas,
I was looking at the specs of the XZ3's main camera compared to the XZ1, and hardware-wise, they seem to be the same.
I see that XZ3 has some AI functions and processing as an advantage and I was wondering:
Couldn't Sony just upgrade the processing of the photos for the XZ1 series along with the Android Pie that will come?
*I know that this is not their main focus, it's just a matter of "respect" for the customers with good HW and sh*tty SW for the camera.
Take care!
Camera is same 19mp i think. Snapdragon. 835 no slouch
Camera processing has already been greatly improved for the XZ2, making it one the best photophone of 2018...

Exactly bro and xz2 and xz3 have same camera, only xz3 have another camera ui because Android P
835 is not as good as 845, I get it.
How about the Mate 10 Pro taking better pictures? Or other phones with an even worse CPU compared to SD835?
I don't think that it's a CPU "limitation"....
Sorry, my bad. There were 2 words missing from my post that might've been a little misleading.
In my post, I want to know if the XZ3's main camera is the same as the XZ1's main camera. I forgot to mention that, so maybe that's why some of you referred to the CPU comparison.
Not only if the main camera is the same, but if you think that there is still hope for the XZ1's camera to take better pictures than it is doing right now, with a little help from the newly coming Android Pie(maybe they include some image processing there also).
Fingers crossed.
Cheers.

Yes it has. Sony XPERIA XZ1 has 13 MPX front facing camera. Your data is false. Check informations again. XZ1 Compact, XZ2 Compact and XZ2 have 5 MPX front facing camera.
From XZs main camera is the same only on XZ2 Compact and XZ2 camera software processing is much better.
i think autofocus may be improved from "what - about half a second" on the XZ2 to "0.03s" on the XZ3 which would seem like an improvement. i'm hoping this brings video autofocus closer to the speed of the galaxy S8 and oneplus6 which are basically instant in adequate light.

while the camera module might be the same (though there is some talk that the lenses have been improved) the big difference is in the new Spectra 280 ISP that's part of the SD 845. Sony apparently helped design it. There is a noticeable improvement in the XZ2 over the XZ1. I would expect the XZ3 to be pretty much the same.
I updated my Firmware on my XZ3 and now the camera shows Just a Black screen while taking pictures.
Anyone Else got this problem...? ?

If so, what are the best settings?
I tried Nokia and Asus cam apps today, they don't have any special settings, just check everything to most high option that you can select in menu and that is it.
Nokia makes decent pictures for the picture size, and Asus makes also good pictures but a little darker.
They are both better then stock cam app :good:
I'm not certain of this, but the Asus cam might take good low light pics. Not in a position to test this but pure speculating.
