I have S5 Mini Duos (SM-G800H) and would like to root it. The problem is that the one I found is for SM-G800F (the single sim version) and my phone is a dual sim. In addition that root is for android 4.4.2 but I have 5.1.1. I'm afraid of bricking my phone, but would like to root my phone. My phone version is LMY47X.G800HXXU1BO12
I also have another S5 Mini Duos (This one is android 4.4.2) and I would like too root it as well. Are they going to be rooted with the same rooting files and process? Or are they going to differ somehow?
Found this recovery but it doesn't work for me. Plus I'm not sure if my phone is QuallCom or the Exynos variant*
* Doing further research... if it's dual sim then it's QualCom, and if it's single sim then it's Exynos?

SM-G800H is Qualcomm
The recovery thread you linked has rooting instructions. Is there any particular reason it doesn't work for you?

Thanks!
It did work, I just did that and it worked. Now I'm trying to get TWRP installed, but it doesn't work for me
Apparently the provided ODIN version was too old. I used Odin 3.10.6 (instead of the 3.7 provided there) and now recovery works fine on my phone. It's right where I want it to be. Thanks anyways

Is there a reason why I'm unable to get TWRP onto my Galaxy S5 Active? I've tried via Odin, Goomanager and Flashify. They all fail and/or even worse... bricks my phone. Something isn't right. I downloaded the tar for twrp labeled Galaxy S5.

You cannot use ANY custom recovery other than Safestrap. Your bootloader is locked down tight therefore NO TWRP or CWM and that goes for AOSP Roms and custom kernels as well.
I would suggest for you to do quite a bit of reading before you turn your device into an expensive paperweight. I'm not being rude but with some simple searching and reading you would've seen it isn't possible.
After rooting I used this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794087
I know says nd3 but I have ng3 and didn't catch that but it installed 100% fine. Safest rap is built off old version of twrp. So u should be use to the setup. Don't use rom slots they don't work for us. There is only 2 roms u can use on the active and that is dynamic kat and unity rom. If the title or description shows active or s5a or g870a support then ur good to use it.
Both roms run about the same. I use unity because it is made by 3 of the main att rom makers so I figured it might get updated more. I'm just waiting for lollipop. Feel free to pm me if need anything.
I have several problems. I am still on the stock ROM. I updated with Kies to Android 5.0. I then rooted the phone. I have not flashed a custom ROM yet. I have tried to remove system apps with my old favorite root app removers and they simply don't work. They say successful but the apps come right back. I have backed up my phone with the standard recovery apps, TWRP, Philz touch and ROM Manager. I carefully chose backup to the SD card but all of them also save the backup to the phone memory also. Those backups eat the phone memory and I cannot remove them. Removal fails. Files are write protected. I was able to remove the backups by using the factory reset. That is a real pain. I'm now afraid to use any recovery now. With only 16 GB of memory, I choose to use the SD card. Is Android 5.0 causing these problems? Am I stuck with the stock Android 5.0? Kies warned me that I can't go backwards. I had none of these problems with the Samsung S3 and S4 with custom ROMs. I might add that I used a no bloat program with the S5 and Android 5.0. It bricked my phone. It was quite difficult to get it working again with the stock Android ROM. I wish I not bought the S5 or updated to Android 5.0.
My phone is a G900F with Lollypop 5.0

Hello All
I want to root my S5 I have tried Towelroot.com and i have downloaded App, once i press make it rain I get error This phone isn't supported.
I have Canadian version SM-G900w8
Android 5.00
Baseband Version G900W8VLU1BOc2
Is there a way to root without triggering KNOW
Which version of CyanogenMod I can use?
I don't remember the exact kernel version, but towelroot only works on android 4.4.2. The exploit that it used to gain root was fixed June 2014.
There is another tool you could try, Google for King root.
Not sure if it works though on the S5.

This isn't CyanogenMod
I've seen a couple Wind phones with this on and a newer version of Odin used to install it

Hi all
I have been trying to root my phone but I think I bought the most annoying phone to root. I hit a wall on every direction so far, from what I can understand, rooting for the new version of android is hard enough but the active is somehow more difficult than the regular galaxy s5. I have been told to downgrade using odin but I will need to get the matching older version of baseband and kernel. I'm not sure if this is what I need or even where to find them. Have anyone rooted a galaxy s5 active recently? any suggestion would help.
Thank you so much.
nvm sorry for the post..... this phone has no hope..
current software 4.4.2 what's the best way to update to update the software to latest new to root
What phone model? G800F, G800H, etc?
Most versions have official Lollipop from Samsung, you can update it using OTA, no root needed and it won't trip Knox warranty. If your model doesn't have a version for your particular country then you can use Odin to flash a compatible version (same model, another country) and it should keep your warranty.
If you want Marshmallow then there is no official version yet. You can get a custom ROM, then you will need TWRP either using Odin or rooting first.
Thanks for the reply ! I'm a idiot ... I have an s4 mini lol
I have rooted it I used king root (GT -19195 ) I'm new to all this so bare with me ! So now I have the problem of having issues with the binary and su it's saying it needs to install the right one but nothings happening any suggestions or should I just sod the root off and start again using odin ? I'm on v 4.4.2

If you meant GT-i9195 or anything other than G800-something then probably you're in the wrong forum, you will get better help in the appropriate forum for your device.
Secondly, if you've used KingRoot then either stick to KingUser app (SuperSU won't work) or you need to replace it completely either using an app or some script, both don't work always...
