Not sure if this is the right place but this post is just to inform people of what i learned the hard way today.
There are new SIM cards, they should come shipped with your phone. If you are like me, you just toss your old card in and go with it. I was unable to get LTE with it, but i didnt know that was the issue. I went to the store, they gave me a new SIM to try, and the same thing. The manager got involved and when she looked at the SIM she said it wasnt right. Apparently, the new SIM cards have grey and purple on them in one of the corners. Not 100% what it is but one of the guys said it had something to do with ISIS.
Anyways, long story short if you are getting 4g in the notification, but not LTE and you ,know you are in an LTE area, make sure you are using one of the new SIM cards, it is apparently a requirement because as soon as we put one in, i was good to go.

More than likely the ISIS issue has to do with a secure element SIM. LTE should be available as long as a LTE enabled SIM is used but it will be interesting to see if AT&T has changed the game again. I guess we will soon know when others try to use their LTE enabled SIMs (from their S4s) in their S5s.

I was using an LTE enabled SIM from my G2, and the new one they gave me originally was also an LTE enabled SIM. Thats the reason for this post. The new SIM has to be used, at least thats the only way they were able to get LTE to work on mine and i truly dont think thats coincidence.

That's interesting, but not surprising. I have to wonder if they did it to keep people from just switching SIM cards from an older phone to a newer phone without telling AT&T.

That was the store managers theory as well. They hadnt even unboxed the new SIMs yet, so i had to hang out for a bit to wait on it.
LTE worked for me with old sim i had from SGS4 , but ISIS complained that it's not secure sim ect. ISIS wont work with old sim, if you dont care for ISIS old sim should get you LTE if you had it before.
New sim did come with the my SGS5 phone when i preordered , droped that in called customer rep to provision it and was set.
ordered mine with Next program, and it shipped with a new sim. Ignored the new sim. popped my nano sim card in using an adapter and works well and I get LTE.
not true. i popped the same micro sim from my S3 into my S5 last night and it worked perfectly fine. LTE works and is just as fast. the only thing was the ISIS app was complaining that i needed to use the new sim to use the new features. I disabled ISIS completely and no more notifications.

I am also using my S3 sim in my S5 showing LTE and getting LTE speeds with no error messages. Not sure what ISIS is though.
Pretty sure the new gray sim card is built out of security to use ISIS ( an E- wallet that use money in your cellphone account, etc ).
When I switch from G2 to Note 3, the guy in AT&T store ask me to change the sim card.
The season is just to make sure ISIS is secure when you doing transaction using your phone

Well, that's exactly what I said to start with but the OP insisted a new SIM was needed for LTE.
Also using a SIM that is about 2 years old.
On top of that I was constantly (like 2-3 times a week) switching between an S4, Nexus 5, and an iphone 5 with out issues and got LTE on all of them.

Maybe im just a bad bad man trying to spread misinformation to the masses. J/K
I was simply sharing what had been determined by myself and a few at the AT&T store. If its wrong, i apologize. Like i stated we had tested with 2 other SIM cards, the old style and even after several reboots, we could never get it to switch from 4g to 4g LTE. Of course as its been mentioned here, i also find it odd that in the time we had other SIM cards in, i never saw an ISIS error. Maybe my phone is just jank.
No harm in the info just had that problem today with gf pro. She wanted to use isis to get the free 50 bones they are offering and she had to get the new Sim with secure in it.

That wasn't easy to follow, but if you are asking if you can switch back to an old sim card after ISIS is setup, the answer is no. The new sim with the secure element must be used for ISIS to function.
Yes it was but have wallet already set up and want to get the new Sim, was hoping it doesn't kill wallet

Without using the new sim Isis wallet will not work and you will not receive the $50.00 on Serve.
I tried to start the process of unlocking my TMOBILE S6 today - first thing I discovered is that I need to get a new ATT NANO SIM Card - the Note 4 I am using has a Micro SIM - and the S6 uses the smaller NANO SIM CARD.
When I chatted with one of the online "unlock" web sites - they said they are not able to unlock the S6 EDGE because it does not give the user a prompt to enter an unlock code after inserting the ATT Sim Card.
he did not know if this would happen (or not happen) on the regular S6.
I am going to get a nano SD card from ATT and try it today - but after what I heard happened on the S6 Edge - It is not promising - it looks like TMOBILE is trying to close the door on people buying their phones and then immediately using them on ATT or some other provider.
If anyone has any experience they can share it would be helpful - I am going to see what happens later today after I get a new NANO Sim Card from ATT.
Updating my original post -
I have learned (thru attempting to use an ATT NANO SD CARD - that the only way to unlock the TMOBILE N920T at this time is by using a special AP available from TMOBILE - and then it will only work when TMOBILE has authorized it.
Cellunlockers or any of the other web sites that offer codes to unlock your phone will not work as you never are given a chance to enter an UNLOCK CODE.
I don't know if there are any other options - maybe secret samsung codes - or a special app by one of our illustrious developers - but for the time being, if you have purchased a TMOBILE S6 (like I have) and want to use it on ATT - it is not possible.
I would love to hear from any one who has an idea on what can be done about this (if anything) short of getting TMOBILE to give you an Unlock Code.
(I beleive the current policy at TMOBILE is that they won't give an unlock code until after 3 months of service. I might be wrong on that - but I beleive that is the situation.)
Any suggestions
What if i have been using T-Mobile for a few years now and decide to buy the phone full price. Wouldnt that also unlock the phone? My wife uses T-Mobile on her iPhone 5S and i wanted to buy a S6 Edge and pop her sim card in it, wait a few minutes and request the unlock. Would that work?

T-Mobile has no idea how to unlock it and they claim that they won't until after the phone officially launches (April 10th). I have been on the phone with them for hours over this.
I'm officially UNLOCKED!
I can tell you that I have had my S6 for about 4 days and I put my prepaid sim card in it instead of the one it came with (had to create a postpaid account so that I could get this phone!). I tried to unlock with the app on the phone and it told me NO, I am not eligible to do that, but I just tried it a 3rd time about 30 mins ago and BOOM! I am permanently unlocked and can confirm that AT&T works great! The phone rebooted and it automatically froze the unlock app. LOL I un froze the app and sure enough, I am perm unlocked! Not bad for using the phone for less than a week and not calling T-Mobile even once to ask. Just wanted to give people a heads up in case u wanted to try this yourself with a pre-paid sim (if u have a prepaid account, of course). I love my $30 plan so I will be cancelling my service so that I don't have to pay for anything except for the phone itself. Good luck!
Wow! Lucky!
I tried 10 times with an AT&T sim but no luck.

Since it's associated with your account u gotta have YOUR SIM card in there in order for the app to know if you are even eligible or not. So, u are correct, u have to unlock it with a T-Mobile SIM card than after it reboots (if successful) then u can put a non T-Mobile sim in.
My question is.. S
Did your phone say unlocked before or after you put in the Att sim card. Your first post wasn't clear. Also are you rooted or no?

What he is explaining is that he had his T-Mobile SIM card in the phone, he then opened the T-Mobile unlock app and tried to unlock the phone. And it told him no. So he tried a few more times, and finally it allowed him to unlock the phone. Then AFTER the phone was unlocked he put his AT&T SIM in and it worked.
The reason behind this is for the T-Mobile unlock app to work it has to check your account to verify that you are eligible for the unlock to occur. The phone will not unlock with any SIM that is not a T-Mobile SIM because it will not be able to verify if it is or is not eligible. And since there is no chance to enter an unlock code there is no need to put your AT&T SIM in the phone until after it is already unlocked. Basically they changed everything.
To be eligible for the unlock from T-Mobile, you must have an account in good standing at least 40 days old, and the device must be paid in full. So my suggestion would be to find a friend or family member that has had T-Mobile for a while and swap their SIM into your phone and do the unlock request, afterwards swap out your AT&T SIM and you should be good to go.
Thanks for the clarity that was lacking in the original post. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who has tmobile. Oh well... Waiting ain't so bad...
Unlock code
I bought an unlock code, as everyone stated the unlock code screen doesn't come up with an ATT sim installed but if you turn the phone on with no SIM in it and the. Go to the phone screen, type #7465625*638*# it will take you to the unlock code screen. I was able to get an unlock successful but when I restart the phone with my ATT sim it still says insert valid sim. Very weird and very frustrating. Have a friend that is prepaid. Trying that tomorrow

I got lucky, had a chat with TMOBILE rep and they approved for the unlocK. I only opened the account a few days back. She did say it may take up to 14 days because the unlock cod or the device isn't available in the database yet

To unlock a prepaid phone, T-Mobile requires that you put at least $100 in your prepaid account if the account is newer than 1 year old. My question is, have you deposited over $100 in your account, or did you just recently open up the $30 line and you got lucky? Trying to replicate with my $30 plan I just bought

You are correct, but that is only one of their stipulations... You have to be activated for at least 40 continuous days for the phone you are trying to unlock AND your account must have had at least $100 of funds that have been put on it with the number assigned to the phone you are unlocking. With me, none of those requirements were met and my unlock still went through so I don't really know what the hell happened but it was def not policy. See, I have had the same prepaid number with the same $30 plan for over a year but I have not maintained continuous service. I jump from carrier to carrier so as long as I don't let my number get deactivated then I can keep going back to that plan but if I don't fund my account for over 90 days then my prepaid number gets recycled and I have to get a new sim card to get back on the plan I had. It may seem weird but I have been doing this 4 awhile now so I have caught on to the way T-Mobile works. I just put $30 on my account so that I could upgrade to the S6 but then I was told NO and that I had to wait til they were available at stores and that did not fly with me so I activated a postpaid account in order to get the S6 but I never put the new accounts sim card in my S6, I just immediately put the prepaid sim card from my old account in there and that's the way I got it unlocked. It's confusing but I'm trying to give you the best details I can so everyone knows EXACTLY what I did. Hope that helps...
Just bought a T-Mobile s6 today and it was unlocked when I purchased it, the guy I bought it from has been with T-Mobile for 5 years and he unlocked it right away when he got the phone. All you really need to do is find someone that has had a T-Mobile account for the said time and pop the sim in ur phone and get it unlocked. Working like a champ on ATT network.

TMOBILE S6 has an unlocked bootloader - BUT the SIM CARD is locked - the guy who posted here was apparently a long time customer on TMOBILE and because he has had an active account for longer than 40 days, he can unlock his sim card using the ap that comes on the phone. BUT if you want to use tmobile S6 on ATT - y ou may have to wait 40 days to get the SIM Card unlocked - unless you possibly know someone who has been on TMOBILE for a while and they let you use their SIM Card to get your phone unlocked....

I am not the one who discovered this - but from my understanding - you should be able to put the TMOBILE Sim Card into the phone (from the friend who has been on TMOBILE for a long time) and from what someone else said, the unlock ap wil unlock hyour phone. Then switch the Sim Card with the ATT sim card and you should be good to go.

There seems to be some misinformation in this thread. I am a prepaid customer who hops around from different prepaid companies for the best rate plan/price and am currently with Harbor Mobile (T-Mobile agent) and I purchased some minutes for my prepaid $30 plan on T-Mobile prior to grabbing the S6 JUST so i could test out the unlocking. The unlock rules apply to each device that are on your account so while I may have been on T-Mobile prepaid for about a year, it was off and on and NOT continuous service which you must have at least 40 days of continuous service PER device that u want to unlock. So, I unlocked my Note 4 a couple of months ago through them but I just received my S6 so I would have had to wait 40 days to get my unlock because it's a new device AND I have failed to maintain continuous service for 40 days anyways, even if the other rule applied. Also, the reason I mentioned that it worked on the 3rd or 4th day I had the phone is because it literally takes T-Mobiles system that damn long for them to actually tell which device you have on their network. I don't know why they can't tell right away but I have swapped devices many times and I have found out that the 3 day rule applies ( at least to prepaid) cause when I call them up for a question or problem after I have swapped my phone they have no idea which one I'm using so anyway, I just wanted to give some more insight on what I have experienced through my time with T-Mobile prepaid and how their system works based on what I have been told and my experiences. I can almost guarantee you aren't just going to be able to throw your buddies sim in and unlock your phone! That would just be waaaay too easy and why would any carrier want to give you the easy way out?? LOL Anyways, take care guys and hopefully I helped answer a few questions. I will be off and on so I can answer any questions u may have relating to my experiences. You most certainly can try any method you think may work but I think I got lucky somehow and really it was VERY odd! I think it will be figured out very soon though so no need to worry as we already know they can be unlocked and I already confirmed this model works with AT&T 100%. :good:

I can confirm that official T-Mobile "Device Unlock" app unlocked my phone. First thing I did when I got the phone.. Using the T-Mobile Sim that came with the phone, opened up Device Unlock (pre-installed by the way), confirmed to unlock, no freezing no nothing it just worked and rebooted.
Phone is on a business account, upgraded via Jump 1.0, unlock prior to the OTA if any of this matters

i paid in full for the s6 , when i tried to unlock with the app it said cannot be unlocked , contacted the cust. support and they said you have to wait 40 days
i went to twitter and wrote some tweets to @Tmobile usa and they responded immediately and after showing them the proof of my purchase they said to try the app again and it worked ,,,
twitter helps
Just to be clear...
Everyone who successfully attempted this paid off the phone in full?
No EIP? Correct?
Just here to check updates. I am a full on tmo customer and am thinking of trying this. Even though I don't need it. Would be nice to just have it.

You can get it temporarily unlocked if still on eip for like going put of the country but not permanent. Has to be paid on full and used on the network for 40 days unless they give you a special unlock if you ***** enough

im going to try this. how did the conversation go down. i need this unlocked. im dying paying for 2 services when i only need 1. pm me please if you want to keep it more private. im thinking of just telling them i need it unlocked, that i paid in full, send them my proof of purchase and having them unlock my stuff.
I bought my Nexus 6 outright not far off 2 years ago now but now I have a 6p on the way.......
I got a new sim card with a different network [4g] in preparation and attempted to put it in to the 6 while I wait for my 6p.....
now as I bought it outwith a contract it was naturally unlocked to any network.....
the sim didnt work and further tests have proven that no sim will work, even from the same carrier I am using it with now......only my sim works.....
how is this possible?
what can be done to fix it....?
I have flashed stock and performed factory resets also.....
I am going to try and flash the first 6.0 build on it to see if that helps.....
do phones lock themselves? Is it possible.....
Att is the only one I know of that puts a sim lock on the device. You have to ask for the unlock code as I understand it.
I used to use sim lock all of the time until I got Google Fi. It doesn't support it.

Can I take the SIM card out of my current Note4 and put it into my Note8? My Note4 and SIM card are just about 3 years old. Is there any lost functionality by not getting a new SIM card or should I just go to a Verizon store and get a newer SIM card? Any advantages or disadvantages to either approach (current SIM card versus new SIM card) like an activation fee or anything like that?
Thanks!
The SIM card is a nano compared to the older micro in your awesome Note4, I had one too before the Note8
You can cut the SIM card to size but there is a chance you can cut it incorrectly and have issues, also a cut SIM card is not covered when you bring it into a store.
Your best bet is go get a new nano SIM at your provider.
I cut my SIM and I am not experiencing any issues but I do want to get a new one soon.
Ok, I figured there was likely a change in something over the last 3 years. Do you know if they will charge me the ridiculous activation fee ($35, i think?)?

It has been suggested by all carriers that new SIMs be used because there have been several issues with previously used SIMs and provision functionality...in other words, there is better connections and access to carrier functions when using new SIMs...most are free from your carrier...I tested my s7e SIM and a new SIM and while they are both from my carrier, only the new SIM provisioned WiFi calling correctly and there was a considerable change in data speeds...just an idea though...

Thanks. That makes sense. I understand that the SIM is likely free. But, does anyone think Verizon will charge me the activation fee to put provision my Note8 on my account to replace my current Note4?
Thanks again!
One more question... Do i need the SIM card installed in the phone to actually go through the phone setup? I'm guessing not, but wasn't sure if it had to go through the setup all over again once the SIM finally is installed. I should get the phone today but probably won't get to a Verizon store to get a new SIM until a day or 2 from now. Thanks.

In most cases you shouldn't, and don't require a SIM card to get through the setup wizard, however I'm not sure if the process is different for US carriers so don't take my word for it.
Popping a SIM card in the phone after setup is complete also shouldn't be a problem.

I just did this yesterday went from the Note 4 to the Note 8 and Verizon gave me the sim for free. The only thing is they had to activate it while in the store so bring you Note 8 with you if you have already bought it. They didn't charge me anything however if you are upgrading through them (getting the Note 8 while there) they may.

This is perfect! I just got my Note8 in the mail today. (came a day earlier than expected)! I'll take it with me over to the Verizon store and hopefully I have the same experience as you did. Thanks!
