How to sideload GMS on Remix Mini. - Remix Mini General

I am a Kickstarter backer of both Mini and tablet because that Gapps are the critical selling point. Since we lost Gapps on 2.0.402, Remix Mini is not as sweet as it was. For thoes who still fall in love with Mini, you can sideload GMS by the following methods and wait for it officially comes back.
1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/remix/remix-os/app-install-google-play-services-remix-t3292087
2. Go to 'Remix Central' and choose GMS Installer

Hi @paco_1
Thanks for this. But some people will have trouble with this "go back to download mode and flash the stock recovery"
Is the stock recovery saved somewhere first?
I also think you need to emphasize more on step six - PATIENCE - Reboot can take up to 5 minutes!
Cheers!

So, the whole process went well for you?
Also, it looks like the stock recovery is in the zip under "recovery.tar".

Thank you so much for being able to root this device.
The device out of the box was great and now that its rooted, it will be greater.
I have got to ask how many have tried this and it has worked. I just got my J7 2016 one week ago. Every phone I get I root cause I am control freak like the rest of us here lol. And where is the Recovery Image for the J7 Marshmallow 6.0.1 at?

No, I have a J700F
I just wanted it to be easier for the noobs out there.
I want MM so bad I'm mmumbling MM in mmy sleep
Bummer man the J700T has MM preloaded
This phone is awesome. I won't root just yet. Not after couple of updates first. When twrp gets released then that's when i root.

Wow, this is awesome! This is the first US variant j7 to be rooted that I've seen!
I have the j700p, which is the boost mobile variant, it looks like they're quite similar, and looking through your instructions, I don't see any signs that this is exclusively Metro, unless the 700T1 has something I don't know of or the auto root messes with files tied to the 700T1.
Anyone know if either of these limiting factors are present?
Awesome work Paco, thank you!
Hello all,
I seem to be getting stuck on step 6. Using the included ODIN app, I am able to upload the tar file to my phone. When it reboots, I quickly press and hold Vol-Up + Home. I see the notification "RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING" in red letters, but even though I continue to hold the buttons, the phone boots into Android and nothing seems to have changed.
I am using Windows 10 x64 with the latest Samsung drivers, and everything seems to be detected in the Device Manager.
My phone is running build # MMB29K.J700T1UVU1APD3 with security patch level of April 2, 2016.
UPDATE: SUCCESS!! It appears I was not pressing the Vol-Up and Home buttons quickly enough. What I ended up doing was disabling the auto-reboot option of ODIN, then when the tar finished uploading, I pulled the battery and powered on holding Vol-Up, Home and Power, then just Vol-Up and Home.
Yeah to be safe I am going to want for the proper TWRP to be released then get to work. I hate patiently being impatient. DoDo2244, have they not release a newer version of the J7 over there? I am actually happy that Samsung is starting to release these series of phone over here in the states instead of just their flagship. They could make a whole lot more money if they keep bringing their mid-ranges this way. Took marketing long enough
I also wanted to add that once rooted, my battery was draining much faster than usual. I noticed that the system app "com.tmobile.pr.adapt" was causing wakelocks. I froze (disabled) it using Titanium Backup and that fixed the drain. My battery does seem to be a little lower than usual, but I'll give it a day or two to settle. A few %s is a worthwhile trade off to block ads and be able to backup/manage all my apps.

SM-P585M got 7.0 nougat in Brazil

SM-P585M (10.1 Tab A 6 2016 with S pen) got 7.0 nougat in Brazil.
I Had TWRP, adaptive storage and root on 6.0 so I needed to update it via the Smart Switch PC software.
The software downloaded the flash version and flashed it.
I'd lost TWRP and root, and adaptive storage is not present either.
If someone know how to enable it back on Nougat please inform.
Best regards,

Just did it but smartSwitch isn't showing the update button. There's a lot of spam/scams from other download sites so i've been unable to get nougat.
Just got it, followed this guide from another post:
1. Download Kies 3 for PC http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/co...Kies3Setup.exe
2. Connect your device and ignore any suggestion to download SmartSwitch. (Kies keeps complaining and suggesting you download SmartSwitch)
3. Once you pass all the SmartSwitch suggestions you will be on a Kies screen that looks like its not detecting your Tab S2. From here Click "Tools"
4. Select Firmware Upgrade and Initialization.
5. Type your model name "SM-T710" (Make sure you type this in capitol letters)
6. Type your serial number when prompted.
7. Click OK when asked if you "want to proceed with the firmware upgrade and initialization" (all settings and data will be deleted but not after you press OK)
8. The next popup will be another to confirm the upgrade to OL6. (This is the last chance to abort the flash)
Thanks!

Should I update? (L09C636B168)

Hello I have a P9 EVA-L09C636B134. I live in the US.
EMUI 4.1
Android 6.0
Phone works ok, it feels slow at times. A reboot usually fixes it for a day.
I have my FIRST EVER UPDATE from the updater (B168). Should I do it? It says there are 2 patches: first one is entirely in chinese, the second one says a few things like add watermarks, fix UI issue, optimize startup, etc.
Yes. Why are you still on marshmallow? Nougat has been available since last year.

I read that the update made their phones use more battery or something. Also I don't know how to manually update, I assumed it would hit this updater thing but I never got an update off the updater. No risk to update you think? I should just do it?

OTA = Over the Air. Official update delivered by Huawei. Go to Settings > System Update and check for updates.
FirmwareFinder = App to show/browse/download available and future firmware updates on Huaweis servers. Only necessary for those who flash updates manually.
In your case go to System Update. There should be an update. Maybe you have to do this a couple of times to reach latest Nougat-Version. Good luck!

Thank you. Perhaps I did something wrong.
1) set proxy to "localhost" and port "8080"
2) my model number was there, clicked it
3) went back to check settings: settings are (show packages for current region OFF, in app proxy port 8080, use simple OFF, show only fullOTA ON)
4) clicked first package (full OTA - MF)
5) clicked in app proxy
6) go to "updater" in settings
7) updater has package, click download and install
8) error "package checksum error." (immediately, before 1% downloaded).
Is it possible I need to not update the most recent one? I am still on android 6.0, EMUI 4.1 and like I said never had any other update OTA before (never used firmware finder). Thank you!
edit: restarted the phone, the package is now gone. Maybe I should do a different package, maybe an older one, not the most recent one?

There are 19 total packages, 14 before the first VD package. Holy **** this is going to take forever!

Can you explain why these dont come automatically, why I need to do this manual process? Is it because I am in the US?
Also why do I need this proxy port thing?

There is no option for B193. all of the packages are in the 300's.
The download finished (I think) but it could not install. It said I needed to free up some space. I uninstalled some apps and now it will not let me view the progress (I clicked new custom version, it just takes me back to my setting page). in my notification screen, it as EMU download percetnage at -930% and it is not moving. I tried restarting a few times it all stays the same. Current version still says B168.
edit: I clicked menu and then "download latest full package" and it seemed to have reset everything. Should I try this package again? To repeat, this is the oldest package on firmware finder, B361. I also noticed there are duplicates in firmware finder... and some of the packages are for L09,L19 and L29, these are all safe to download? Should I keep doing oldest 1 by 1?
Thanks again for your help, sorry I am so noob.

I remember when I first got my device, that toggle comes default switched to ON. That's why my device updated from BL rev4 to rev5 while just sitting there by itself.
That never happened for me again after turning that toggle off. I also set it to not download updates automatically.
So now, it just asks me on every reboot to download the OTAs, but as long as I hit cancel I've never had it update itself without me first hitting the button to initiate. So IDK. It only happened the one time, and it hasn't happened since.
So I feel both options need to be disabled then. And I've had my device since the beginning of this year. If it does start downloading the update hard reboot the device during download and then wipe your cache from recovery. That reset the Download toggle for me when I accidentally pushed download.
Wiping the cache should erase the downloaded OTA anyways. And after it's gone it will just ask you to either download or download/install again.

Ye I do those also.
I read recently you can only put it off only so many times?
I'll do the cache clean if it tries to download itself.

Maybe it has to do with the Installed security policy then? Because you can update your security policy independently of your Build. A newer build will naturally comes with a newer policy, but there is normally an option to update the Security Policy without just downloading a new build.
I can't say I've had entirely the same issue though so I don't know.

[Guide] How to update firmware and retain root (all versions)

The following guide will allow you to upgrade firmware via OTA and retain root.
This method will work for moving up from any 10.0.x on EU and non EU variants of the 7t Pro including the McLaren edition, just ensure you set the correct device variant in Oxygen Updater
PREREQUISITE: Must be on rooted 10.0.x firmware before following the below guide
1) Download the Oxygen Updater app from the play store
2) Open Oxygen Updater - Go to settings and ensure you have your device set to the correct model e.g 'EU' and the update method is set to 'full update'
3) Download the latest available update but DO NOT install it
4) Navigate to Android settings>System>System update
5) Hit settings and then local update
6) Select the file downloaded from Oxygen Updater (will be on the root of your internal memory)
7) Wait for it to install and ensure you DO NOT reboot at the end
8) Go to Magisk manager and disable/delete any modules you have installed (will screw your device up if you leave them enabled)
9) In Magisk manager select install then 'install to inactive slot (After OTA)'
10) Reboot and you should be on the latest firmware with root retained
11) If you have Magisk modules you want enabled again don't just hit enable - remove them totally and redownload them before enabling
Note: you can use the system update menu in settings to obtain your OTA update, I use the oxygen updater method purely because they seem to distribute the firmware quicker in some regions. Just make sure you don't reboot after installation and then continue from step 8.
Hope this helps!

Yeah, as mentioned this is only for a clean upgrade from rooted 10.0.3 to 10.0.4. if you updated the firmware without this method you will lose root and need to source or create a patched 10.0.4 boot.img to root again.
daveuk87 said:
I've been asked a couple of times privately how I upgraded from 10.0.3 to 10.0.4 and maintained root on the EU OP7t Pro so thought I'd drop this here for anyone else curious;
PREREQUISITE: Must be on rooted 10.0.3 EU firmware before following the below guide
1) Download the Oxygen Updater app from the play store
2) Open Oxygen Updater - Go to settings and ensure you have your device set to the EU model and the update method is set to 'full update'
3) Download the 10.0.4 update but DO NOT install it
4) Navigate to Android settings>System>System update
5) Hit settings and then local update
6) Select the file downloaded from Oxygen Updater (will be on the root of your internal memory)
7) Wait for it to install and ensure you DO NOT reboot at the end
8) Go to Magisk manager and disable/delete any modules you have installed (will screw your device up if you leave them enabled)
9) Select install then 'install to inactive slot (After OTA)'
10) Reboot and you should be on 10.0.4 with root retained
11) If you have Magisk modules you want enabled again don't just hit enable - remove them totally and redownload them before enabling
Hope this helps simplify the upgrade for someone out there.
This works for the McLaren variant also (people keep asking whether there are differences in the process)
This will also work for the global firmware that released a couple of days back, just ensure you set the correct device in Oxygen Updater

If you're after the 10.0.3 rooted boot image check out @HolyChickenGuy 's thread. He sorted out the initial root of 10.0.3
His thread is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/7t...-3-patched-boot-image-oneplus-7t-pro-t3986351
How the hell do you properly mention someone on the XDA app? Normal web syntax doesn't seem to work

His thread is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/7t...-3-patched-boot-image-oneplus-7t-pro-t3986351

So you're stock 10.0.3 right now? No root? If so his boot image/method will definitely get you rooted, many, many of us have used his image..when done come here and follow upgrade instructions to get to 10.0.4. or alternatively wait for someone to dish out a patched image for 10.0.4. I don't have one myself as I upgraded from the previous firmware

Hi @daveuk87,
you don't actually need the Oxygen Updater, as long as you're going to update through internal updater. Oxygen Updater might get usefull, when we get TWRP.
But if you're rooted, but without custom recovery simply do the following steps:
1. Go to Settings>System>System update
2. Select "Download & Install"
3. Follow Steps 7 - 11 from OP.
Did exactly that and it worked without issues.

You're absolutely right but the update wasn't showing for me at the time of writing so it's just to get around that if it hasn't rolled out to you officially yet
