Unable to update/ find firmware for Samsung galaxy s4 active-i537. - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

problem is with a samsung galaxy s4 active -i537 which is from the ATT network and unlocked. I bought it from ebay and it says it was "ATT unlocked" having received the device; it was running android 4.4.2, everything was working fine. i wanted to update to lollipop and went over to settings> about phone> software update > check update. bam! says,"your phone is up-to-date." I know it wasn't as it was able to update to lollipop.
moreover, I went on the web and began searching. I was able to come across xda forum which guided me with the OTA files to update to lollipop. I followed through and everything went well. however, upon using the device I realized several bugs. one of which is the annoying one; not seeing the option or menu to toggle between 2g, 3g or 4g etc. I have searched longed and hard to find "android lollipop 5.0.1 firmware" so that I can flash the device via odin to fix the issue. the thing is; i am unable to find the firmware. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could direct me to a site where i can get pure stock rom of android 5.0.1 for sgh s4 active-i537. NB: i do not want the OTA file. I need the full firmware.
any answers regarding this thread please email me at [email protected].
thanks,

AT&T doesn't release the update Odin firmware files for their devices. Seriously ask anyone with an AT&T-specific Samsung device how literally impossible it is to find updated firmware files. That said, what can I get you, the OTA file for 5.0.1 (yes I read your post, read mine), stock firmware file for 4.4.2, or rooted stock 5.0.1 flashable zip? Your options are limited thanks to AT&T

[Q] Installing 4.3 stock rom on modified device

Hi everyone.
I'm a bit stuck here, and I have googled quite a bit, but seem to come across conflicting information.
Basically I bought a PAYG S3 LTE on EE UK that had official status, and wanted to unlock it to the 3 network. The only way I found to do it for free was to downgrade the ROM to 4.1.1 and use the hidden menu hack and so just decided to take it to the local phone shop and let someone do it properly.
But when I got it back, it turns out that he actually did the 4.1.1 hack himself and has rendered the phone 'modified'. I was a bit miffed as I wanted to keep it on 4.3 and get OTA updates.
So my question is, can I flash a stock 4.3 ROM back to the phone, and if so, will it keep the network unlocked for my 3 sim? Also, will I be able to root 4.3?
I do apologise if these are pretty obvious questions, but like I say, I just have seen many people saying different things.
I've also flashed a few phones of my own, so I'm not a complete newb in that respect.
Any info will be much appreciated.
Cheers.
Download your corresponding 4.3 firmware from: http://sammobile.com/firmwares/
And just flash it with Odin

[Q] Updating AT&T S4 Active to Android 4.3+

Hello,
in my company we are developing an android app. The lowest android version this app supports is android 4.3.
The company bought several testing devices including a AT&T branded Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. With Android 4.2.2 (Buid Number: JDQ39.I9295UCUAMF3)
I tried it for a while now, but I can't get the OTA Update to work. It says "Software update interrupted. Try again in 24 hours".
I can bypass the 24h lock by changing the date of the phone. But even after ~30 tries the phone is not updating.
There is no SIM Card in the phone. Is a AT&T SIM Card needed to update the device? I am not able to get one, because I am located in Germany.
Can I update the phone manually with Kies or something?
I don't have admin right on my machine so I need to know what to do, before I contact the admin to install a required software.
Could a blocked port be an issue? I do have access to the internet, but if Samsung (or AT&T) uses some non standard port, my company could be blocking it.
(Root is not an option.)
Kind regards
Cliff

Hi Cliff. I can't say for sure, but my guess is you can't access the OTA because you're not in the right region (someone correct me if I'm wrong). As far as I know, you shouldn't need a SIM to update, again could be wrong. More importantly, there are other ways to update. You could probably try Kies, but I wouldn't recommend it, it seems like users always have issues with Kies. I would strongly recommend you try updating the phone with Odin, a tool by Samsung that let's you change around your phone's firmware (among other things) when the phone is in download mode.
There is an exhaustive guide linked to here that thoroughly explains how to go from any version of android (official, for this phone) to any other version. In simpler terms, that link shows you how to manually update, which is what I think you're looking for. Also the files you'll need to download are located here. Hope I've helped, and good luck updating! :good:
Oh, just re-read your caveats: you almost certainly don't need a SIM for Odin to work, and you definitely don't need root either.

Thank you for your answer. Yes, maybe AT&T does region lock the update -.-
I've used Odin on my old Galaxy S2 some years ago.
I'll have a look into it and decide if this is the way to go.
Odin will do it as long as there are full install files for you to use.

You need an AT&T SIM card in the phone in order to install AT&T OTA updates. You can't use Kies to update because AT&T won't let Samsung post AT&T firmware on Kies. So your only option is to use Odin and the guide posted above.

(REQUEST) S5 Active Marshmallow OTA?

I have been searching the entire internet today looking for a mirror to the G870A Marshmallow update, as I have no sim card for it. I recently started using another service and a OnePlusOne, but I would still like to update this phone for tinkering. If anybody knows of a mirror for the download, or has the ability to capture it, it'd be much appreciated.
Another issue might be finding a way to update to PB1, PB3, or PB6 first though, as I have also been unable to find a way to update to one of those first. I'm not certain if it'd be possible to update to PH2 without them, according to AT&Ts official update method.
Please don't tell me I'm out of luck. :crying:

Any updates to MM on S5 Active?

att galaxy s5 wont update

Hi. My fiance has the G900A galaxy s5 and it will not update. Its on 5.0 lollipop. Ive been trying to update it to marshmallow for months now and it won't. It always says software is up to date. It has enough room to update cause I know marshmallow is a big file. Does anyone here know why it won't update?
Its never been rooted or tampered with at all.
Anybody??
I'm having the same issue
I'm having the same issue, however, my daughter's ATT S5 is on Tmo. I put an ATT SIM in it yesterday and it showed the update available, but won't pull it down because we can't turn on her WiFi. I wiped the phone and restarted and still cannot turn on WiFi. Now I'm looking for a way to run the OTA update over ADB.
I had a similar issue. I missed one or two previous OTA updates and found that my phone would not update to 6.0 Marshmellow. AT&T store could not assist and was referred to Samsung employee at Bestbuy whose kiosk happened to be not working. I tried with Odin, Kies, and Samsung Sync all of which do not work since ATT does not supply them with their firmwares. They all just showed my phone as up to date. I found a thread on how to manually update via emergency mode. I followed the directions and downloaded the firmware. Dropped the file into my external sd card, named it update.zip, and rebooted in emergency mode. I was able to update with one of the in between firmware and after that then allowed me to use the OTA. I am on an ATT S5 active. I bet you would need to do something similiar since you're still on 5.0. I believe there was 2-3 in-between updates before the latest.

Updated do not show up unless a valid AT&T SIM is in the phone. For some reason it checks to see if you have a valid AT&T service account before accepting the request to connect to the OTA update server. You will not get an update otherwise.

Note 8 unlocked and still no Oreo firmware update?

Baseband: N950USQS3BRA8
Note 8 is unlocked and currently with T-MOBILE, previously AT&T. I've search all day today and still can't find why I don't have the Oreo update yet. I have the Samsung keis software and it tells me I'm up to date. Did it ever come out for my baseband? I apologized in advance if this was already talked about, I only saw discussions about it being rooted. I want to keep it stock. Thanks

You can check for latest firmware related to your specific model on sammobile.com, then download through updato.com (or using the SamFirm tool) and flash it through Odin.

Since you're using it with T-Mobile and it was previously AT&T you're not going to get updates anymore unless you use an AT&T sim card.. The only way to get the updates at this point is to download the update firmware yourself and flash it through odin. The reason being is because T-Mobile doesn't carry AT&Ts firmware updates so you have to get it yourself.. It's easy as hell to find the firmware on places like Android File Host. Also do not download T-Mobile firmware it will not flash... Use AT&Ts firmware only.
I have a AT&T iPhone 7 from work, you guys think if I take that SIM and put it into the Note 8 the updates would come through? I was looking through the Sam mobile thing. You guys make it seem easy to manually update and I'm terrified being my first time doing it that way. But if you think the SIM card swap would work I'll give that a try first.

The sim card swap should work.. Can't hurt, try it and then check for updates.
It worked!!!
I swapped out the sim cards and it worked!
I ended up having to back up the device and restore, since the update wasn't showing up. I cleared the cache, checked and nothing. After restoring the phone the update became available. After the 8.0.0. update there was about 4 updates after (security patches). I'm now on 8.0.0 with Aug 2018 security patch. I put my tmobile sim card back in and restarted the phone. I even get the tmobile screen during boot up which I never gotten since I switched back in February. All in all it's working fine. I'll update if anything crops up. Thank you all for your help!
You can push software update with this procedure.
put this in your phone app: *#8736364#
Then go to Field Test mode.
Change "Device Initiated date" to one or a few minute ahead. wait until you see "SET" then press Home.
Wait until you see software update to kick it.
Try several times if it doesn't work at first.
