[Q] Which version LTE or WiFi is better to buy? - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I am looking for new tablet tab S2 9.7" (now I have note 10.1 wifi)
Which version is better to buy?
I am thinking about LTE but I read that LTE version has poor development from xda
I want to use this tablet for 2 years and I know that support for custom roms is very important
What do you think about it? And about support for LTE version?

Personally I'd get the LTE version. I have the wifi and it works and I do use hotapot with my device whilenim out frequently but just having it ready to go and not draining my phone battery is worth it enough. It only that but you get vibration in the lte model.

You can use a 3g dongle on the wifi model.
I have the LTE model, but there's not much point to it as I never use it.
I would need another sim card and data plan. It's just as easy to use my phone as a wifi Hotspot.

I like having the LTE option. I feel no need for custom ROMs. This tablet is not flawless but it's running rather well on Marshmallow.

If you have the extra cash, get the LTE one, you never know if you will use it, but you have it and can be use, the problem with wifi, not everywhere has wifi and good reception.
For me I use wifi if available, but I have a 3G sim card in my tab and it only cost approximate USD 32 for 10GB with a 12 monthss time limit, right now i've used about 6GB, I have till september to use it, already purchased another spare sim waiting to activate it after september.

Where are you getting the good deal on the 10GB of data for 12 months? That's a great deal! Will that work on an AT&T S2 LTE?

Sprint Tab as wifi only?

Im looking at picking up a galaxy tab for 350 brand new from sprint without a contract. I was going to purchase a wifi only version of the tab but was warned by some of the gurus on here that it has a weaker processor and after some research turns out they were correct. So i found this one , my question is , i have no intention of activating it with sprint EVER i just want to use it as a wifi tab. is this possible? or do i need a contract to start using it??
I say pick up a used tmobile one craigslist, more dev community and has 16gb internal vs I believe 8gb on both cdma tabs. If I'm wrong someone please correct me.
Uplinked through my mind
they have different capacities?
S SGT
I just got my sprint GT in the mail yesterday and rooted it last night. I paid 315 shipped from a ebay seller, never activated and is working great on wifi only right now. I have alot testing and mods to go though. It was manufatured at the end of april, 2011. Pretty happy just need to find out if boot loader is locked still?
I'd go with a gsm (at&t or tmobile) as suggested. I just got a sprint one not knowing the differences in cdma and gsm. Although it works great and fits my needs, it only has 2gb internal w/ 16gb card and very little roms available. And yes it can be used wifi only. I'm able to tether from my Dinc and connect to wifi at home. Worth the 280 I paid.
I have teh Sprint Tab which I use for wifi only. It's had issues but Samsung took care of it pretty quickly under warranty. killerb777 is correct, it is 2gb onboard, and 16 gb in the SD slot upgradable to 32.

Using this as phone...

Sorry for this noob-ish post, but I just bought one of these (AT&T) and have a simple question:
I want to use this device as my cell phone, but don't plan on activating the 3G through AT&T. Instead, I'd like to just take my sim card from my cheap T-mobile cell phone and stick it in. Is this possible? My T-mobile phone is not 3G and I just buy the prepaid, $100 cards for 1000 minutes.
Thanks.
One more thing:
I am also considering just getting the 3G plan for 250mb at $15/month. I figure that would be enough to just use Skype Out or some other VOIP to use it as a phone. I'd also have the added luxury of being able to access the web when away from wifi (which I wouldn't be doing very often).
I'd love somebody to weigh in on these options.
It is indeed possible to flash the device to make calls and use your T-Mobile SIM. You wouldn't get a 3G connection, but since your cell plan doesn't include data it's moot. Look around the forums...there are loads of tutorials and experiences to help you with this.
Also, you'd be surprised how quickly you could burn through 250MB, but you could always pay for it and monitor your data throughput and buy more data if needed.

LTE 8.9 vs WiFi 8.9

Hey guys, I picked up the ATT LTE 8.9 the other day and all is good. But I since I bought the Tab at the no contract price I don't plan on using the Data package for it. I will tether via my Skyrocket instead.
So now I'm trying to decide if I should return it and just get the WiFi only version in the 16 or 32 gig since.
Are there any differences other than the LTE on the one I have?
Any reason to keep the LTE modle over the WiFi only?
Thanks

There is a difference. They use a different SoC, different processor chipset
The wifi only version uses a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor
The LTE model uses a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon set.
The wifi has more support in these forms as well.
Ok, thanks for the quick reply.
So I think the Tegra is normally faster than the Snap, but since the Snap is 1.5 I would assume they are equal.
So now the only choice is too keep it or get the WiFi 32 gig, which cost about the same price as the LTE.
I just don't need the LTE data on this thing.

I think the 1.5 benchmarks higher but n every day performance underneath touchwiz you don't see much of a difference. The LTE is a little faster from my experience.
Since you acquired the tablet on a contract deal, make sure you don't have t pay any fees for returning it. It is a good tablet and 16gb is a lot in a world of cloud storage. Google music streaming, google docs, dropbox, sugarsync, netflix, picasa gallery syncs pictures

The Snap is on average faster than the Tegra 2 in everyday use, but the difference you see with the videos. With Tegra 2 will have big problems with HD video while with the Snap can see all kinds of HD H.264 video (if you are interested I can be more specific). As you can see in my signature I have had the Tegra 2 and now I have the Snap so I know what I say.
Believe me, keep the LTE 8.9
Max
I agree with the poster above me. To add, tethering through the skyrocket or sgs2 in my experience is much slower than the onboard chipset if that matters to you.

OK thanks guys for the info.
I did get the device with no contract.
So here is another question.
I can do the data plan for 35 bucks a month. Or I could do the tether plan for 10 bucks more than I'm spending right now.
Did someone say the onboard LTE is faster than tethering.
LTE is ballistic fast download speeds. Native lte would be faster then tetherng, tether goes through your phone. Tethering lte would still be fast but not as fast as the lte in the tablet
So overall would you say keeping the LTE 8.9 is a better choice over the WiFi 16 or 32 gig model??
Why wouldn't you buy it on contract if you plan to use LTE?

As for the Data,
I have an Unlimited iPad 3G Data plan that I was told I COULD transfer over to the Tab, but the MGR at the store couldn't figure out how to do this.
So I've been talking with ATT ALL ficken day, finally a chick in Billing just entered my new SIM /IMEI number on my iPad data account, and yep the Tab started working, BUT not with LTE.
So I'm still trying to see if ATT can figure out how to give me UNLIMITED LTE data, OR the 5 gig plan, which is $60 a month for what I was paying on the iPad data, $30 a month, OR some credit because I have notes on my account saying this was possible.
You have to have an lte provision on your account and a new sim card from my research.

Wow what a mess.
I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with ATT today.
Here are my options for Data on the LTE 8.9.
1. Get a data package, the cheapest being $35 a month
If you get this data package it will cost you $840 bucks over the 2 year contract, less the $200 discount is $640. That seems a lot for 3 gigs of Data to me.
2. Add a tethering package to my Skyrocket.
They have a 5 gig tethering package for $50 a month. My company gets a 20% discount with ATT so this would cost me $10 bucks more than I'm spending now. I have unlimited data for $30 and this would be $40 after the discount.
3. Since I'm rooted, I can tether for free.
Since I really don't plan on using that much data on this each month, I think I'm going with choice #3 at this time. Choice #2 is incase I get cut off from the free tethering.
I just don't see spending $640 bucks to save $200 a good deal.
I bought mine from ATT outright, without the contract, because as you said, the subsidized cost of the device if got under contract, is still really high, there just isn't much to be saved there.
So I bought the device outright, and then signed up for a non contract / monthly plan which is 2GB per month, for $25 a month, cancel anytime.
The contract version of that plan was 3GB a month for $35, they did not even offer the $25 / 2GB plan under contract.
Just some added info I guess.
Also, the HSPA+ is damn fast, and when your in an actual LTE area, it is ungodly fast!
As an additional note, if I go over the 2GB in a month, it adds an additional 1gb for that month, at $10.
So in the end, if I go up to 3GB in a month, its still the same cost as the contract version and with the same amount of data, just not chained to a 2 year agreement.
To me this works out the best, a lot can change in two years, especially in the tablet market.
This way I get the same data, at the same cost, but more flexibility then the contracted plan.
Plus I can sell the device long before two years and get a good chunk of that money back out for an upgrade if something new comes to the table that I want.

[Q] LTE sim card, any benefit?

Hi everyone, my network has recently upgraded and has LTE sim cards available. I know the n7000 is not a LTE device but is there any benefit to using the LTE card? Just curious as it is a microsim and I would need to get a sim adapter to work in the n7000.
Thank you for any insight!
Since the Note doesnt support LTE, i very much doubt the "LTE" sim card will make any difference.
But if they are being offered to you for free, take it. its not gonna make your phone self-destruct or anything
my friend has an lte phone. the intenet is very fast but he said he wouldnt buy again an lte phone because its unnecessary.
well when i run it with basic settings its ok but when i add the att pta settings to mine it does run much faster.... you do have to have att's system thinking you have an att note and not the international one. might not be lte speed but mine goes pretty fast...
if you get an LTE sim card in Note 1, you are cued up to get LTE service when you switch your phone to an LTE phone.
I'm thinking of getting one. $9 for the card, I cue myself up for LTE when I get an LTE capable phone. In the meantime, I still get the same quota of 6gb for the same price but now I have LTE.

What speed do you get? I get on average 11-12mbs on hsdpa +. More than happy.
from the man hiding in your attic....
Where are you and what carrier to get 11mbps on HSPA+? Im in UK on 3 and get 8.

a little story from my country, in Indonesia, if we not in big city, like jakarta, yogyakarta, or bali, it's only get EDGE signal man, it's suck(sorry).. if i can get the HSDPA signal for a while, it really make me happy, and after that or you go to another place or go iside house, you go back to EDGE.......
I wonder how fast LTE is, and network on your country, someday maybe, thanks for reading..
I'm not into lte, at least not now since lte coverage is limited to a few cities in my country (Switzerland) and the prices are still far too high. Maybe in a year or so when the coverage will be better.
Back on topic: No yiu wont benefit from a lte capable sim card if your phone does not support lte.

Best mobile Internet in India

Hi, I'm going to India for a month in September.
I have an unlocked S3 Mini and a Samsung Tablet, which I plan to take with me.
What is the best way for me to get internet while I'm travelling around?
I was thinking:
i) get an Indian sim that allows 3G/4G (?) with which i could tether my tablet. (I assume the S3 Mini is 4G compatible?)
ii) get a MIFI for a month but this seems more expensive.
Look forward to hearing from you, many thanks.
Its your choice whatever you choose but lemme explain you each and every thing ..
In India only three companies are providing good connection for 3g. And
4g is not available in most of the cities or you can say it's not arrived in India yet ..
The companies are Reliance, Vodafone, and Airtel .
3g recharges are as follows for 1gb .
Reliance - 156 Rs.
Vodafone - 250 Rs.
Airtel - 250 Rs.
And if you go for WiFi then it would cost more because you need to buy a router that would easily cost charges of 4 months in once..
so choice is yours and you can select whatever you think right but in my opinion you should go for Sim card option .
Hi, thanks for replying.
How fast is the 3G? Let's say when I use it to tether my tablet.
If you have used 4g then you may feel its slow otherwise there won't be an issue and you won't feel its slow ..
It's enough if you want to do some surfing and downloading small stuffs ..
If you thether with your tablet than also it works quite well ..[emoji4]
So does MIFI use the same sim card as for the phone?
I assume 3G would be faster from the MIFI device than tethering from the phone?
Yes its uses the same sim card .
But obviously mifi is going to slightly faster than mobile thethring bcoz mifi is dedicatedly designed for it ..
By the way you can mobile thethring instead of mifi that would be preferable ..
And it won't cost you money
OK, many thanks for replying.
Probably, I will use WiFi where it's available and have the 3g option when there's no WiFi.
Re: sim cards, I'm guessing the best option for me will be to buy separate sims for calls and data, OR is there a good package available?
You state Reliance is the cheapest for data, but do they have connectivity problems for example? Thanks.
Nope bro Reliance is one of the best network available at least in Mumbai and in my knowledge. And Reliance comes on 2nd after Vodafone in connectivity.
And you should consider only single sim for both your needs ..
And airtel is also good in connectivity ..
OK, will look for a Reliance SIM when I arrive.
Also, as a foreigner to India, apparently I have to provide all my personal details to be able to purchase a prepaid SIM? This seems strange to me.
What do you advise on where to get my SIM? Thanks.
I would advice you to contact to your any of your known body or relative in India and ask for ID proof of him that would be much better and easy to get the sim card rather than submitting your all details .
Otherwise you know what you needs to do to get the Sim card .
