How to restore 810 to stock without wiping data? - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted and TWRPed my 810 as soon as I got it hoping custom roms would be coming...
It appears that MM will be coming sooner, so I figure I may as well just go back to stock and wait for the OTA.
How can I flash back to stock without wiping my data exactly?
Thanks in advance!

Please don't create voting threads for a simple question.
Just flash stock firmware.

Sorry, unclear what I did wrong... I thought I just posted a simple question, looking for clarity on flashing stock without wiping data...

[Q] Restore to Stock

I was hoping to flash Paragon tonight, but it said to flash to stock first and I had a few questions.
Why do some ROMs have you flash to stock while others you can just flash through ROM Manager?
Is the Stock backup I made through ROM Manager sufficient as a subsitute for an Odin flash?
If not, are there any Mac alternatives out there?
I'm trying to get a good understanding of what I'm tooling around with so I don't brick my phone.
Thanks for the answers
I wish I could answer all your questions, I'm guessing it's because the recovery uses a zip file and it does not update everything that odin would. Anyways, if you need any help flashing to stock I know that the FAQ page of the cognition rom found here has directions.
cognition.theidiotshideout.net/mw/index.php?title=ODIN#One-Click_JF6
It is not needed but many think it is best. Depending on the rom you are on you have a cocktail of lag fixes and kernels. Flashing stock gives a clear slate.
You can disable lag fix, delete davlik cache, clear cache. You should be fine but you may run into issues. May.
What are you running?
It's some sort of ancient lore past down from priests of captivate forum antiquity.
As for 'cocktails of lag fixes and kernels,' there is no reason your cwm install can't format those partitions, particularly in light of the fact that it has built-in support for ext4. I don't know why people think the stock flash functions are particularly better at dealing with it.
Do yourself a favor, make sure you have a working download mode combo, purge your mind of the flash to stock FUD and obliviously commence to flashing one froyo ROM right over another. You'll be glad you did.
So if I'm hearing you correctly, it's more of a this will make sure you have no issues and are starting from a clean slate. It's not 100% neccessary to flash to stock before flashing a new rom?
Meanwhile, I was furiously trying to get Odin to work on an old laptop I scrounged up to no avail. Sometimes my need to tinker creates so many problems.
Thanks, guys!

It is like a default disclaimer to flash stock. If you flash the rom and have an issue, one if the first things they will ask is did you flash stock. As mentioned almost all lag fixes use some form of ext 4 filing and most clockwork recoveries can now handle ext 4.
So in summation you do not need to, if you flash and get stuck in a boot loop you need to. I would make sure you can get odin up and running, and recognizing your phone in either case just so you know you can use it if needed
Absolutely no need at all to flash to stock
Would you install Vista in order to install Win7?
As long as you format everything in CWM before you flash a new ROM, then everything is a clean slate. It'll wipe your stock install, so why install stock first?
This and the 're-calibrating' your battery are the two biggest FUDs about Android.

[Q] custom rom after applying the "easily update to 5.7.893 and keep webtop"

[Q] custom rom after applying the "easily update to 5.7.893 and keep webtop"
Hey guys new to the bionic and have already done lots of flashing and changing to it. I read the easily update thread so I reverted back to stock using the For3v3r root and applied the update and the webtop mod. After searching through the entire thread all pages no one asked or said anything about whether or not that mod will work if you flash a custom rom.
So my question is...Can I flash a custom rom after and it still work? I specifically like liberty so any help would be fantastic.
Thanks in advanced and I promise I searched and searched for this answer. Please help
I dont really know what you are asking. If you are asking if you can install a custom ROM after updating to 5.7.893, then I would say yes. If you are asking if you had a custom ROM on there first and then tried to upgrade, I would say, yes that should work too, so I guess the answer is "yes".
Thank you for your response. I guess to be more clear is if I am on the stock rom with this webtop mod applied can I go ahead and flash a custom rom without loosing the ability to have the webtop mod?

Generally any restrictions regarding mods and custom ROMs are contained in the post for the ROM or mod. The 5.7.xxx update is a system update. Think of it as firmware....the under layer. It may come in a Stock package, but if you Flash or mod in any way, you would be impacting only that stock package.....unless the OP posts in the thread.
Many people on other devices, may revert to Stock implementations....to do the OTA....then continue with other flashes like before. Things that are flashed, kernel, baseband, system, radio etc.....all work together with the hardware to deliver your Bionic experience.
That actually makes a lot of sense. I can obviously follow instructions to flash especially when the devs make one click roots and other tools to make it easy for noobs like me, but what you just said made my understanding much better.
Thanks again.
would restoring a nandroid from a 5.893 system be a bad idea?
I actually updated mine with forever root to 5.7.893 then flashed Liberty 1.0 ROM on my phone and its worked great so the answer is definitely yes.

Correct, i think. It is probably safest to wipe everything, but might be able to be flashed over wildstangs rom.
cool
I'm gonna wipe everything. I've experienced 1 too many bootloops and hicupps specially with cyanogenmod. My Dinc just never seems to like those Roms
Thank you for this. Been thinking of going to a more stockish rom. The latest roms just have too many bugs and quirks for me.

I literally flashed over wildstang83 Rom . I'm gonna attempt another try but wipe the cache and delvik 1st. Wiping everything didn't do anything. I'll report back soon
Not booting..
Not getting to boot animation... I have tried 3 times now.. Wiped everything..Format boot/storage etc... Anyone get it to work?
I was actually surprised and excited to see this update this morning but thought it would be ICS.
Long ago I rooted my phone just for gaining control and removing bloatware but ended up flashing my first rom with WildStang's Gingerbread OTA. After that I applied the "Warm" theme and been happy with that thinking there would be no more updates to this phone.
To the point - my question for you all is what do you mean by flash over? When the OTA is pushed is it just a patch or do they somehow send and entire install which removes the previous version, saves your data, installs the new version, and puts back your data? I don't have a problem with wiping and starting fresh, and it sounds like that is what everyone is recommending, I'm just trying to understand how it would even work flashing "over" my current version.
Nobody has replied to my post and I have not seen anyone report a trouble free install here so I'm gonna sit on the fence for a while
Did a full wipe and all seems to be working well
?
Just downloaded VR superwipe. I'm gonna redownload this Rom and give it another shot.

Flash over is just how it sounds. Literally flash on top of your current rom without wiping your data out.

Yes
I have a question.
I am running an ICS ROM how does this affect me....
Well my QUESTION is this:
What are the procedures to installing this and can I just reflash the ICS ROM I was on before.
The only updates with this push seem to be SMS and Bluetooth, is it even worth it?
Thanks for your time guys....
I performed a data/factory reset, cleared the cache partition as well as did a dalvik wipe but after installing it gets stuck on the white Incredible screen. Any ideas? Perhaps my kernal/radio? I honestly lost track of what kernal and radio I have so I am not sure.
So what's up with this ROM, I flashed like 3 times And it boots up.....then it starts a random reboot and just bootloops continuously. Is there any fix?
EDIT: seems the OTA update was a bust check this out........

So guy - you put this out here and it seems like everyone is having problems. How about some feedback. I'm getting ready to sell this phone in two weeks and want it to be on the current version but I'm not touching this ROM until I hear it freakin works. There are always a few people with issues but I'm not hearing anyone saying "flashed it and running with no problems". Appreciate the effort to get this out there but if your gonna take the time follow through on your commitment.

[Q] Do I risk losing my data on my phone if I do towelroot?

I'm seeing a lot of conflicting posts from people about rooting and it is starting to confuse me so I just decided to make my own thread....
I am on 4.4.4 OA1 unrooted.
From this thread it sounds like it is just a matter of flashing an older kernel, running towelroot, and then reflashing back to the current kernel and I'm good to go.
I have flashed kernels before on my s3 without it affecting any of my data, but i have seen some posts suggesting that it is possible the phone or some data will reset.
So I guess the ultimate question is how safe is this method of rooting and will I be at risk of losing any data by flashing kernels? After I root my phone will it be just as it is now, only rooted?
I mainly just want xposed on my phone

You shouldn't loose any data downgrading the kernel.
I'd still backup though, just in case.

Towelroot doesn't even reboot your phone when you run it! (at least it shouldn't) It's a pretty safe and easy rooting method. However backups are your best friend when you step into root territory

Yea towelroot itself seems pretty harmless, it's the flashing of kernels that I am worried about mostly

because the ATT S5 version is bootloader locked, it is not possible to flash kernels.

Oh okay so I definitely misunderstood that other thread, it was talking about flashing stock Roms not just the kernels.
So this means I would in fact lose all my current phone data if I want to root this way.
Thanks for saving me a headache

It's not possible to flash CUSTOM kernels...you can flash stock kernels all day long. There is no rom flashing involved.
I personally used this method to root several times and have never lost any data.

Thanks, this is what i thought to begin with. The other thread does come out and say your data won't be affected but i guess i just wanted to clarify the process and see how risky it is.
I think i will end up giving it a shot tomorrow.

Their's always that chance of something going wrong, but if your careful and do your homework you'll be fine.
Best to read twice and flash once...
Good luck!

T817TUVU1AOG8 Stock ODIN?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anoyone could help me find the stock odin file for my tab S2 Tmobile? I rooted and I have twrp and everything. I wanna go back to having LTE while I wait for a custom kernel that can support it. I have had some problems locating said odin file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
One of the most important reasons for having a custom recovery such as twrp is so you can make a full backup PRIOR to making any modifications.
I don't know how many times I have said this yet still people go ahead and flash regardless.
The firmware you are looking for is not available yet.
You're only hope is to ask someone who has the same model with unrooted firmware to make a backup of the system and boot partitions and upload them.
Or you may be able to unroot with supersu then flash just the boot.img.
If unrooting doesn't work then you may be able to flash the boot and system partition from the firmware below with Flashfire.
http://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-T817P/
Make that backup first.

I thank you for your assistance, but I must say that I am not a novice when it comes to rooting, flashing, odining etc. etc.
I was merely asking if anyone came across the stock odin file I listed above, if they could link it to me. I am having a hard time finding it and as you pointed out, is because it isn't there to be found. So I will continue to wait patiently and use wifi until it is released.
Thank you.
