I just got a Droid turbo used and all links from Gmail, Bing, and just about all other apps open in a browser popup window. Half of the content won't load... How do I turn this crap off? I've looked in chrome settings and don't see anything. I'm guessing this is a Motorola feature?
I'm not rooted, verizon 5.1 rom and I have factory reset. This is happening on two different Turbos (mine and my wife's, we just got them from different sellers ).
I just want to open links in a chrome itself and not in some android window.
Thanks!

Window? Odd... And it's chrome?
What launcher are you using?
Sent from my DROID Turbo using XDA-Developers mobile app
If you bought it used you should do a factory reset.
Sounds like someone installed malware on your phone. What ROM is it running?
This is what it looks like... This was already factory reset with 5.1 verizon rom. So this isn't normal when opening links from apps (doesn't happen in Chrome, in this case it was a link saying I had replies on this thread in Gmail) on the Droid turbo?
Newest test, I Uninstalled chrome and links from apps still open up in the browser window. My wife's turbo that I just bought is doing the same thing. Both running verizon 5.1 rom and have been factory reset. Any idea guys?

Anyone out there on a stock 5.1 turbo? Opening every link from Gmail, etc pops up these windows... Even YouTube links and then I just get white windows and not in YouTube app. Really getting annoyed.

Yep, disable disabled webview and still doing it. Can't believe this doesn't annoy anyone else.

My turbo never did this on stock, ever. When you factory reset, did you set it up as new, or restore backed up apps? If you can screenshot all apps (Settings -> Storage -> Apps), it might help me, and anyone else reading this thread, narrow down a possible cause.
I suspect that it's a "feature" of an app that you have installed. This is definitely not a Moto feature and not something that is built into the stock rom. Are there any web-related apps that both you and your wife have installed?
If you want to ensure that your phones are completely stock (a factory reset won't erase anything that's on the system partition), and they're on version SU4TL-44, follow step 0 of this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/general/guide-how-to-unlock-bootloader-install-t3292684. If the phones were updated to SU4TL-49, try using the Verizon Upgrade Assistant to repair them (the annoying popup that you get when you plug your phone into the computer).
Figured it out! Both of these phones were purchased from swappa and factory reset. Both had Motorola factory reset protection enabled, which meant I couldn't initially activate them. I had to perform the steps in this video to remove the frp via adb commands : http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mXTojqc0ZX8
This apparently meant the phone wasn't fully activated, but we're still "working". I also thought it was odd that I couldn't change the defaults for Web browsers in Android. Using an app named "Default app manager" showed that my default was set to "Setup wizard" rather than Chrome... Disabled " setup wizard " and then all was fixed and was able to setup my browser of choice as Web default.
Interesting predicament!

I've been using DROIDs since DROID 1, then X, and now Bionic.
I have the issue on my Bionic: I'll get a notification that an App has an update. When I select the app from my notification pane, it opens Android Market and takes me to the My Apps view. However, no apps display as needing updates. (Yes, I'm sure it's a notification to update an app and not the notification that an app has been updated (auto updates)).
I can go through all my downloaded apps and none of them show as "updateable." Sometimes it displays, that there are more than one (like 3) apps that have an update, but again, when I go to My Apps, I can't find any app that has an update - there is no update button only Open and Uninstall.
Has anyone else seen or heard of this issue?
Have you changed the LCD density at all? That gives me various problems. I always have to grab an older version of the market place to update.

I know what you're talking about. I've found when that happens, it's usually tied to a system app or a preinstalled app, such as Gmail, YouTube, or Zumocast.
Annoying.

I concur, I had the issue as well and updating the pre-installed crapware seemed to remedy the issue.
This has been happening to me as well, and it's not always system apps. Yesterday I had the notification in the morning, with no app showing up to be updated. However, I checked the market later last night, and Swiftkey X was showing up. (I had read that Swiftkey had an update earlier in the day, as I recalled when I saw that.)
It could be that the apps are sending notifications before they hit the market, or it could be that the market app has issues. I think it's the latter. I generally used to check the market for updates when I plug in the phone when going to bed at night, and I may start doing that again.
I hate the new market - since the last few updates (when it got its current new look, with books and movies) the market has been pretty crappy.
Same thing here. I get the notification, but there are no apps showing as having update available. If I go through the apps one by one I can usually find some with updates. I also have apps mysteriously disappear from time to time. I went to open Gentle Alarm last night and it wasnt there anymore, I re-downloaded it and it installed and all my settings were still there. Strange.
For some reason, it keeps changing from your default account to a secondary account. I have two Google accounts on my phone; one for personal and one for work. If you go into Market and then hit menu, accounts-you will notice it changed your default account. I haven't figured out why it does this-my OG never did.
Could it, in part, be due to applications that were set to auto-update?

Hey everyone,
So I just upgraded my DS7 to Honeycomb, pretty new to this Android thing, so I haven't rooted anything, just running the stock Dell version.
After the upgrade the Facebook App doesn't seem to work. I can log in, but my Newsfeed never displays anything, it just continuously shows the little loading circles spinning around.
Any ideas?

Have you reset (power off and on) after you update? Check to see if there is an update to Facebook. Mines works fine after the update. After the update, if you did not go through the setup procedure, you might want to do a factory reset to clear out all the old data and begin fresh. I did that and my Streak 7 is working smoothly, no problem at all.
I have rebooted it a number of times, but no luck. I've been thinking about doing a factory reset and then upgrading to HC after that, as almost all my data is stored in the cloud, so I would just need to back up my apps.
I'm still pretty new to Android though, so I'm a little nervous about doing that sort of thing.
My Facebook app is also giving me problems. The newsfeed and profile tab and some of my friends wall wont load all the time. After a reboot it did help but like I said, sometimes I have the same issue. I will keep an eye on it and see whats up.

Try opening a friends wall and go back to yours. Play with it a few times back and forth. Also, try an uninstalland update again. Clear cache and data.

You have already upgrade to Honeycomb, so all you have to do is a factory reset to clear out the old data. You will not loose your honeycomb update, just the data. Go into the recovery mode: power off, then press & hold the Volume Up and Power button until the recovery screen comes up, then follow the instructions it provide.
mine is working fine... did you try to clear data once?
Try resetting App in Applications

Before you reboot, try by going into settings, applications, and then pull up all applications and scroll down to Facebook, when it comes up...click on the "Clear Data" option. It will clear out all setting for Facebook, then go to the Market and check for Facebook updates. Once you've done that, reboot your Streak, then try accessing Facebook to see it it the issue cleared. Facebook works fine on my Streak.
Now comes the big question: How do I remove this Facebook application? Used to have it but was addicted, strangely enough I am unable to remove the application. Am I the only one that does not want to be on Facebook? The service is running and therefore is doing something even if it was just taking up space...... anyone?

The Facebook 1.7.2 app on my mom's S7 crashes when she clicks the "friends" link if the tablet is being held in landscape mode. It works properly when held in portrait mode.
Wifi only HC update issues
I'm having a lot of the same issues that are being mentioned here.
For starters, I can't seem to install/move apps to SD after upgrading.
Facebook app doesn't work very well (if at all) even with update applied or clearing data. I can cause it to crash simply by selecting the friends tab. I also noticed that trying to add fb via the accounts tab in system settings generates an error. My theory is that this is a bug stemming from contact syncing.
I say this because none of the apps seem to behave correctly in that sense. Twitter and Skype contacts get added even when you specify within the app settings to sync with existing contacts only.
The Paypal app experiences an error upon login, preventing you from getting past that initial screen.
Installing apps via Android Market from another computer doesn't work. You are given the option to send the app but it never shows up on the Streak. I have not tried this again since wiping the device last night.
Note: Prior to upgrading, I reset the device to factory state. Updated successfully. Found all the above issues. Reset to factory state again. No change in behavior. I think the build may be bad, but then again, I'm no expert.
Any help would be appreciated.
O.K. Wearing my tinfoil hat. Looked and couldn't find the processes that might operate this rootkit on my Bionic, but I really can't be certain what I am looking for.
The HTC versions were IQAgent and IQRD. Nothing similar that I have found, but I'll bet they are there somewhere.
Anyone found anything?

I've heard that it could be disguised as Contacts Sync and ContactsData. They have the same icon (although that doesn't mean much).
I haven't been able to determine if its the same thing or not.
Anyone able to confirm that the Bionic is CarrierIQ free?
I tried the Logging test tool, but if they renamed the app it won't work.
Either way, this thing is going to cause such a lawsuit with huge repercussion. (which they deserve)

Likewise, I ran the "CIQ Checks" test in the "Logging Test App" by xda member TrevE mentioned in this article as a reliable way of testing for the presence of CIQ: http://lifehacker.com/5863895/carri...everything-on-your-phone-and-how-to-remove-it The test completed running and nothing showed up in the "CIQ File List" so I'm assuming the Bionic is clean.
I don't think the Contacts Sync and ContactsData icons are a reliable way to test for CIQ. Found this on another site: "The icon is a default icon, not specific to Carrier IQ. It can't help you determine whether or not CIQ is present."
After all the latest news about the rootkit that is allowing apps to bypass requests and can track what you're doing on the phone, I have found that particular app on our Bionics.
First, read this article:
http://www.helloandroid.com/content/are-carriers-illegally-tapping-your-android-phone
Next, go to settings, applications, manage applications, all applications tab, and look for the Fake Blur app. I am rooted and rommed and noticed that I still have this app. Is it something that we should be worried about? Has anyone tried uninstalling it and seeing if the phone still works without it?
Well, for whatever it's worth:
http://www.theverge.com/2011/12/1/2602532/verizon-carrier-iq-denial
So that would seem to strongly support the idea that the Bionic lacks CIQ.

It's present in Shifter rom also. I was going to uninstall it using TB, but it seems like it might stop something from working, because when I attempted to force stop the application and went back to my homescreens, it was like I had just turned the phone on and they were sluggish.

Wondering if anyone else is having this problem. I got my Nexus 4 (Yeah!), started it up, logged into my google acct, everything started downloading/restoring from google. I checked out the Messaging app and settings, and noticed a "group messages" setting. Sweet!!! But then I got a system update notification. I obviously installed it. After installing it, I used gobackup pro to restore my messaging threads. NOT THE APP, just the threads. Checking the settings again, the "group messages" setting was gone! Just gone! Not sure if it was the system update, or the thread restore, but I am perplexed. I've done 2 factory resets since, but the setting is still gone. Messaging ver. is 4.2-57622 or something like that (don't have the phone with me at the moment.) I'm guessing it had to do with the system update, and that is why it's still not there after the factory resets, but, I really have no idea. I am stock, no root, or unlocked bootloader. Stock, pure stock (the reason I bought a nexus device). Any help or related info would be greatly appreciated! I've searched everywhere, and seem to be the only one with this issue. Any screenshots of anyone else's messaging settings running that app version would help too. Thanks
You'd probably get more help if this was in the Q&A section.

Man, I'm confused. I have no idea what happened. The group part is totally omitted from mine. I've tried to reinstall the app, but can't get very far without root. Thank you for the screenshot. At least I know that the setting isn't just hidden in the Ota update.
Have you tried the reset settings to default option? Or clearing the data for the messaging app?

Yeah, done both. One thing someone just said in another thread, isit may be carrier dependent, and the OTA update hides the setting unless your carrier supports it. Being as I have only played with the phone on wifi just to make sure I am happy with it and don't want to return it,(as it is a christmas present ) I'm starting to wonder if that is my problem. I have no sim installed, so the settings may be hidden until you pop a sim in and the phone recognizes that your carrier supports it.
VZW Nexus 6, unlocked, unencrypted, stock rooted 5.1.1 with Wugfresh's NRT. Access point is LTE - Verizon Internet VZWINTERNET. I have AdAway installed, but have had it disabled in order to troubleshoot. I don't use the MOAB host but I whitelisted mms.vtext.com just to be safe. Also tried a couple of different access points to no avail.
While in Messenger if I tap the paperclip to add an attachment, all options except Google Photos work. When I try to attach a photo from Google Photos, the displayed thumbnail is blank and the spinning search indicator goes on indefinitely. If instead I open Google Photos, select a photo to share via Messenger, it works fine.
One other piece of info. After I get tired of watching Messenger endlessly search for a Google photo, I back out, clear recents and go into Google Photos to send that way, but my attempt to attach from Messenger corrupts something in Google Photos, so I have to force stop it to get it to function normally.
I've force stopped, cleared cache and data for both Messenger and Google Photos multiple times, but nothing seems to work.
The only thing that does work is reverting to the factory install of Messenger. If I do that, everything works as it should.
Anybody have this problem?
Thanks.
Try a file explorer (ES is my choice) and click the share button. There should be an option to share it via Google Messenger. That should insert it into the convo. Also make sure your SMS/MMS settings are correct along with the APN. If none of this works, try uninstalling/reinstalling Messenger, and then clearing the cache/dalvik, and try again. Hope this helps.

As stated, all of the options (to include my file explorer--root explorer), recents, dropbox, etc. do work. It's Google Photos that's not working properly. Also keep in mind, that the option to use Google Photos allows me to attach photos from the cloud, which is what I'm unable to do...so a file explorer is not optimal in this case.
SMS/MMS settings have been checked, and as I also stated, I'm using Verizon's preferred APN, but I have also tried others without success.
Although I didn't mention above, is that I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Google Photos and Messenger without success. The only thing that did work was reverting to the factory install of Messenger, but that's not optimal.
Clearing cache and Dalvik is useful so I'll give that a try, but I'm not hopeful.
Are you, or anyone else able to duplicate this problem without reverting to the factory install of Messenger? Thanks.
I had that problem. I never ran completely stock & rooted from the box. But I had similar problems with the stock sms/mms app using custom roms. I finally installed Textra on the advice of others & since then have never experienced a problem, so I never looked back. But others told me it was the stock app which is at fault. Why it works for most & not for some - I got no idea. I also consider Textra to be a step up in many areas vs stock. I use Titanium Backup & freeze the stock app also.

Anyone ever get this resolved? I'm experiencing the same. Running Nexus 5 stock, unrooted.
Still not working for me even after updating the factory image to account for Stagefright. During the update I took the opportunity while unrooted to try again (this was after a factory reset)....didn't work. Then rerooted and tried again...still a nogo. Same symptoms as my OP.
