Restored launcher - screen flashing ... ? - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've restored the laucher to stock from Nova, all went well but on reboot once booted flashes between the wallpaper and black. I can get to notifications, previously open apps but no launcher. I've try to restore again but no difference, any ideas ?

Could wipe cache in recovery or factory reset
Reinstall 5.0.1 in Stock recovery or use TWRP
there are a couple of scripts for removing or restoring stock launcher
should be links to all in the index
[Index]Amazon Fire 7" - 5th Gen-2015

Stock recovery worked, I did try wiping caches only initially... many thanks

[Q] Alternative launchers

Anyone figure out a way to get alternative launchers to work. I'm on a rooted 7.3.1 and can install launcher by putting it in system/app. When I reboot the launcher shows up but when I go to it it always and immediately crashes. Tried several popular ones and same problem. Does the Amazon launcher need to be disabled first. Any thoughts or ideas.
The original kindle fire HD OS sucks. Better to root, install 2nd bootloader & TWRP, Then flash either Kinology or CM10.1.

I already have a Nexus 7 so I don't want to install CM or any other ROM. Just want to figure out if other launchers are possible.

You can use KindleFree.Download from here.
With it, you can disable Amazon homescreen, install a different launcher and install Google Play.

launcher FC and other random FCs after android 4.4.4

I unlocked throught sunshine and receive the ota zip. Then I factory reset my moto x. However, many apps randomly FC including launcher.
Anyone has an idea?
Edit1: I am on AT&T
Edit2: I figured out a way to reproduce the launcher FC: pull different app icons to the "app info" on top of the launcher (original launcher). The launcher sometimes gets FC after you enter the app info page.
Try to clear your cache trough recovery.

You must have a conflicting app.
Do a safe boot, at the first logo, hold vol down.
Btw, I use app install history from play to have an uninstall plan when this happens.
What is your carrier?

It restores the whole phone, much more than the sys/boot of a nandroid.

New factory image live : 6.0.1 (MMB29S)

Here's the download link for the factory image at the usual place: https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/hammerhead-mmb29s-factory-6bfcdfa4.tgz
Amazed to see that no one created a thread for this (I guess). I know that this is only a month security bug fixing, but still, sometimes they fix other things beyond that.
If anyone notice more bug fixes (or more bugs!!!) beside the security ones, glad to report.
does anyone manage to root it with superSU 2.66?

So, one only needs to have TWRP and flash latest systemless SuperSu, right?!

I'm now on 6.0.1 MMB29K, SuperSU 2.65, and ElementalX 6.07 and intend to update to MMB29S, SuperSU 2.66, same ElementalX. Were/are you running Xposed? I'm wondering if I should uninstall it first and then reinstall afterwards. Thanks
Yes, it worked for me. After update, I flashed elementsX 6.07, then SuperSU 2.66.

I tried today with xposed and the new factory, NFC service started crashing (i flashed the new system img without deleting data).
So i rebooted again in twrp, flashed the xposed uninstaller zip, then wiped dalvik/cache, flashed xposed installer, wiped dalvik/cache again. Now it's working fine.

Did you wipe cache and dalvik the first time?
I have problems with the update :crying:
Before updating, I had the phone in "alarms only" mode; I flashed the new factory image, and now I can't disable it anymore! I tried both using the notification pane, and the volume rocker, but the setting doesn't switch off...
Any ideas?

Weird issue. I'd try a factory reset.
I figured out how to disable it: I added a rule to enable Do Not Disturb for calendar events, then created an event lasting one minute. At the end of the event, the phone was back to "All notifications"; the toggle works fine now.

No, I don't have Xposed at the moment.
Another minor issue is that WiFi seems to be always on, looking at the battery usage graph, even when it's set to be off (WiFi scanning is disabled), and even when the phone is in airplane mode!
I don't know how to check if it's actually always on, but I noticed this both before and after the latest security update.

Can't install the June update (software update unsuccessful)

Okay so i did a clean install of the stock rom (Pie) with May update. Flashed all the files and was finally at the home screen. Got a notification for June security patch and i installed it immediately. Keep in mind till now no modifications were done to the phone including rooting, the rom is stock, clean and without any modifications. The only thing unlocked is my bootloader.
I observed when the update reaches around 80% it says update unsuccessful. No changes were made to the system. I tried downloading the update again, rebooting, formating/wiping data both via stock recovery as well as TWRP, factory reset. Even tried updating without SD-card just in case. Again flashed the full stock rom but to no avail, the update was not successful.
Any ideas why i can't apply june update and how am i supposed to solve this? Thanks

Clear data of all the ported apps(or the apps which are not installed from playstore) and then uninstall these apps and then try to install June update . Same thing works for me. It showing same error to me but after doing these things my phone updated successfully.

I have no ported apps. As i said, its stock rom with no modifications. I didn't install any app from anywhere. The only apps i have in my phone are pre-installed apps which come with the stock rom such as Google Drive, Play Books.. I even tried clearing the data of the pre-installed apps but still no update. Also today i tried flashing the retail version of the stock rom with may security update. I think there is an issue as i flashed the retail version of the rom, the about section from the settings app still shows software channel as "Retin". Shouldn't it be showing retail version

Fire 7 2019 Mustang, recent OTA update? can't register with Amazon

Hi all, has there been a recent OTA update?
My Rooted F7 froze while charging and needed a soft reset. Root permissions were Ok I've logged back into Google Play, however, it now won't register with Amazon. I just get a blank screen when I try. Similarly with the update settings - blanks screen.
I'd like to use the Amazon app store as much as I can because I feel the apps are better optimised for the hardware. I also use Alexa a fair bit.
I have a system + apps + data Ti Backup from before the reboot but have only successfully restored ok individual apps.
I have 2 questions:
(1) if there was an OTA update, what do I need to disable to stop it happening again (searching OTA in apps2sd comes up blank); and
(2) is there a part of my Ti Backup I can use to re-register with Amazon? "Accounts" does not seem to be that thing

Rename DeviceSoftwareOTA.apk. Tried and true method that has worked on every FireOS version/build dating back to 2012 (FireOS v3).

Thanks, but there is no such APK on my device - as I have said above I have also searched for services / apps with OTA in the name to no avail.
Could it be that it has been renamed recently?

Possibly, or more likely erased. If accurate no worries about OTA updates. Sure you are looking in the right location (and have permission to do so)?
