Has anyone had any issues receiving and sending MMS on dev preview 3? I didn't have any on the first 2 releases. Now what I've noticed is that it shows with sending or downloading and it will just hang forever until I shut off the wifi connection (does it connected to any WiFi) same thing using stock messenger app and hangouts. I'm on T-Mobile and wanna try and narrow down the cause. And before anyone says anything. I know it's a preview and has bugs, just wanna know if its happening across the board or if its possibly through my carrier.

You are out of luck without a logcat. Without it the best answer you will find is "it's aliens"

What ya think a logcat will catch? No error, no crash. Just hangs. I'll get one if ya want

You do know a logcat catches everything that is going on. Not just crashes. It may lead to info for help but considering this is a beta and source code it not released yet there will be nothing anyone can do really.
I was having issues sending and receiving texts until I copied the mmsc info from the other APN and pasted it into the default fast APN. I also added MMS to the APN type field.

My AT&T Moto X is sending MMS pictures that are to large to open. My Galaxy S4 always shows that its automatically decompressing when to large. Why does the Moto X not do this and what is the solution. Thanks in advance.

Anyone know the answer?? If this thing can't properly send a picture message I may get rid of it.

Compresses fine for me. Are you using a 3rd party messenger? Stock messaging and hangouts both will resize automatically. If they're not, you've likely altered something or aren't using the native messaging apps.

No, everything is factory set. No third party apps or anything like that. Most pics are sending fine, but some will say "to large" and show a hazard type sign... No idea. Thanks for the input

Same thing is happening on mine. I've tried sending pics to an S3 and the recipient gets " The media content was not included due to a picture resolution or message size restriction". I checked the details and the message size is in the 300-400kb range while picture messages I sent with an HTC doubleshot where usually under 100kb. Am I missing a setting? I am also using the stock messaging app, btw

I set hangouts to be the default messaging app and have successfully sent mms to other Android devices... So there's that.

My wife has the same problem with her XT1053 on T-Mobile. Sometimes instead of the picture, the recipient gets the media content size message.
We've tried sending the same image and different times and on or off wifi. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. We have not figured out a pattern.
We've also tried both the epc and fast apn and with or without MMS proxy set in the apn settings.
She's coming from an iPhone so anything that doesn't "just work" is a glaring deficiency.

whats the pattern you notice because mine has no pattern. I'm having the same issue, on tmobile using the t-mobile XT 1053. I attached a screenshot of the error message I'm getting.
Its been going on for week with me using AIO and using T-mobile, using 4.4 and 4.4.2. I even got my phone warrantied because of it. Still happening, obviously there is a software bug with the stock messaging app. also, my signal randomly disappears -___- I'm waiting on a call back from a level 3 technician.
Motorola, please take note of the moto x bug!
Try using hangouts. I can send anything. But I'm still on 4.4

ok, thanks for clarifying. I haven't been able to replicate it either. my girlfriend and i have been working on this issue for days lol. Next step is to get a refund. This says too much about Motorola and the state of android. grrrr!!! #fasterupdates
try 8sms.
maybe carrier restriction?
It's not a carrier restriction. Fact is, the MMS apk file does not include the code to compress down the image. I believe this is also happening with the AOSP Messenger as well. I'm not sure why, but I was having this exact same issue on some other ROMs on my RAZR HD. It's my guess that Google removed the auto-compression code from the AOSP messaging app in an effort to get people to use Hangouts.

I gave up on the stock messaging app and hangouts and use 8sms instead. Pictures are fine but I can only get mms through mobile data, not wifi. I'm on Tmobile so I think this is a limitation of the service... Unless anyone knows a way around this.

***IF YOU ARE HAVING THE ISSUE PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING***
So I'm curious as to what carrier you guys are using? Also is the problem sporadic or constant?
HYPOTHESIS: I have a good case that T-mobile's network is to blame, in my situation. I've been using t-mobile with 2 different moto x (I exchanged because the compression issue) I am currently using a t-mobile HTC One which I will be returning since I thought the issue was my moto x. The issue still occurs on T-mobile HTC One.
So I've had MMS messages always send but some arrive and some don't, using The HTC One as well as the moto x, using t-mobile. What's interesting is this:
All messages take long to send
Some say sent (verified by checking the time stamp and also clicking on the view details for the picture) but after asking the recipient they would tell me they never received it.
I tested with friends from other networks (Sprint and AT&T), they've sent me images and I have no problem receiving them
I've sent messages to friends using other carriers (non-tmobile) they had no issues receiving mine but they would take long to send
Doing the t-mobile customer service test ((SENDING A MMS TO MYSELF, SOMETIMES THEY DON'T ARRIVE BUT WHEN THEY DO THEY ALSO TAKES A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF TIME))
My GF and I both have tmobile branded phones on tmobiles network and all the above situations happen to us both. all the ISSUES I mentioned occur when we text one another too.
I've been testing MMS messages for 2-3 weeks texting a T-mobile iPhone 5 and my HTC One (T-mobile) and 2 Moto X (T-mobile) (XT 1053) all phones were running latest software. So this rules out pretty much every variable. We both have good coverage and have not dropped our phones at all.
THEORY: T-mobile has been aggressively bringing in new customers for months now with all the new plans and marketing and whatknot. So I believe that Tmobiles network is either having proxy issues with MMS or simply they are experiencing network congestion with all the new customers. This is similar to the network issues people were experiencing when AT&T got the iPhone for the first time. Things were pretty bad around those time for AT&T customers and a lot of people.
last, This is the hardest evidence I could get so far being that I can't indirectly test each and every carrier lol
I really do hope this helps!
Tmobile user here.

Is there anyone that else having issues beaming apps or webpages to other devices via NFC after updating to 4.4.2? I get a transfer error message that says unable to transfer URL via NFC. Sprint and HTC have both said they haven't heard of any known issues... Until I updated the store demo HTC one and showed the repair technician. I guess I'm trying to find out if these are isolated incidents or something that will be a known issue.

It worked on 4.3. On the store demo phone, we had tested it to make sure it worked before the update and verified that it stopped working after. The Sprint tech said he had submitted a trouble ticket. I also reported it to HTC and they are "going to call" me back in 3-5 days. Just curious as to how long before they fix it.

I'll let you know when mine gets fixed as well. Also, do you have any problems with audio in Skype? Just noticed I can't hear anyone since the update, but they can hear me... weird
I tested Skype. Seems ok to me. Then again I had uninstalled it and reinstalled it for something else prior to you saying something about it. Another thing I noticed with this update is that the 4G icon will disappear while on a call. I can still use data while on the call. It's just that before it let me know data was available. Now it was making me think that doing both wasn't an option anymore.

Turns out the Skype thing was because of the other device. As far as I can see, this update brought us only bad things. NFC not fully working, battery life sucks compared to 4.3... Only improvements are easy change of SMS default app and some visual improvements. I want my battery life back!
I don't have a Sprint HTC One, but after the upgrade to kit kat, NFC isn't working for me.

Does it give you an error message or just doesn't work? I'm assuming you have the NFC toggle set to on, right? Can you provide any specific details? Like does it make the sound effect at all? Any indication that it is at least trying to work?

It gives me an error message, NFC is on, and it works because it shows the error message when I touch both phones. It's very laggy, look at my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2660552
so I thought my software was mucked up but then I read a bunch of people are having connectivity issues over the past few days. sprint is blaming my phone but I doubt it, specially with it being a known issue.

Most of us have had luck by changing from LTE/CDMA to CDMA only in your network settings. Until there is a software update we are all stuck for now. I had sending text issues for a day or so then that went back to normal. It's a Spark issue. do not worry too much. Neither Sprint or HTC is saying anything about when the update will come.

Duplicate text's is an issue many of us have had. Please let Sprint know you're experiencing the issue here: https://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/179054
Also, try switching to LTE and see if anything changes. I've been on LTE since N5 and have never had issues. I'm also not ruling out #blameSprint as a culprit.

I switched it to LTE rebooted and still same problem
It takes a while for my phone to connect to, by the time I enter my password and view the home screen signal is back. I have experience text message error, even when I am in an area with 4 bars LTE. I haven't had any MMS issues yet. This may be due to Sprints abysmal network.
Seemed to temp fix mine by using 3g only texts send no problem and i can actually stream pandora without it skipping every second
Can't believe internet is faster on 3g
That's a network issue on Sprints part. Buddy of mine had an S4 with no LTE but 3G worked. The sim card ID was incorrect on their end. They reset it correctly and everything works.

It is a known issue and many of us are hoping for a fix. So to answer your question in short, no. However, if you use hangouts, you can configure your APN settings within the hangouts settings. This may help. Also forcing 3G when sending texts is a temp fix.
