my phone is having problems with my providers and causes frequent internet disconnections, so i want to know is there any way to flash modem.bin and test other modems without a pc, perhaps to flash modem.bin under recovery mode or something like that? coz i want to test the modems from different firmwares and find a stable one
or, should i do a dd to overwrite bml12? but i extracted one from bml12 b4 and the file size was different from other modem.bin
thx
I'm having the same problem with froyo roms even with the correct APN settings I'm thinking of flashing back to stock. Shame

Didn't someone get JME Rom working on CDMA Sprint Tabs? By changing the build name around?
I cant find the post, but who ever it is, please give us more details. How'd you do it? Do you recommend it? How is it holding up? Does it brick anything (GPS, MODEM?)
Thank you!
I did it to my Sprint Galaxy Tab, original post here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929898)
I had to remove movinand.mst and it flashed fine using Odin, I just followed the directions there.
HOWEVER, the way I did it will make the Tab WIFI Only with no known way to get back until someone can figure out how to dump the sprint stock modem.bin.
That is fine with me as I did not want the 3G, but did want the Bluetooth HID. (now my Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard work)
You might be able to pull the modem.bin file out as well as movinand.mst but I have no idea what that would do, sounds very risky.
M.
did that brick your GPS though?
I use it as WIFI Only as well.
How does the JME run on the tab?
Can you upload the exact JME rom you updated for us CDMA users who are kind of new at this? That is if you still have the version you edited for the Sprint?
If there's one thing I learned with flashing ****.... as long as you don't **** with the radio you can't really mess it up. With that said, don't flash a new modem (radio)
exactly then, cant we just have all these ROMs take out the Modem.bin, wouldn't it be flashable to CDMA then? or no
Yes it borked the GPS as I flashed with the modem file to get rid of sprint, works fine so far and I can use my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard now, had to reinstall all apps though.
I just Flashed Roto's JMG last night, will see how that goes.
I used the ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894763 and took out movinand with 7zip.
I assume you could take out the modem file as well or try the update version.
I would put in a request to Rotohammer to make one for the CDMA tabs without modem and movinand to be safe.
No idea if flashing without the modem file will fry the CDMA modem as I cant test this do to no one being able to get the stock Sprint modem dumped yet.
M.
I have no experience in doing this so I was curious on just how someone would go about dumping the stock Sprint Modem? also would we be able to use the epic 4G's modem since it's similar? or would that not work due to the epic having 4G and being a different device? If I knew what direction to go I'd certainly be interested in getting in to this more.
Now if someone can just confirm how to flash without killing the modem, we'll be cooking with gas!

I know that file name is floating around as a flashable "almost stock" ROM that has the Epic 4G modem inserted, so you can recover your sprint tab but lose gps. I would get someone who has already borked their gps by flashing to test it and see if it fixes it before everyone goes flashing this ROM.
If I was doing a restore using the files posted I would not flash the modem.bin. That's what breaks the Tab, not the software.
Need help I bricked my Galaxy Tab by Sprint trying to flash Overcome. Now I am stuck at the Galaxy/Samsung screen of death. Computer recognizes sometimes and others not. Is there a way to get it into download mode again or a I screwed.

Well you can't get any worse, so try this file to load;

Keep trying to get it into download mode, down volume and power depressed together.
Hi,
I'm under the impression that the radio is different from the modem, therefore my previous efforts to fix a problem with the auto-connection to HSDPA/3G were somewhat in vein. If I am correct in this, it could be the reason that my "phone information" settings won't stick (revert to default) and my phone, once connected to EDGE, will not automatically reconnect to HSDPA/3G.
Would someone be so kind as to point me in the direction of CWM-flashable radios? If needed, I am on the AT&T network (U.S.) with the international GT-I9000. ROM and kernel are in the signature, modem is JPY but flashing to the U.S. modem made no difference.
Thank you for your help or even your attention on the matter. I plan to write this up as a tutorial for this very problem should this solve the issue which I believe it will.
All the information you need is here:

It's telling me it's a bad link. I'll try to receive it through search and post the link if I get it.
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9579987&postcount=11945
I flashed JPP to see if that can fix the issue as it's compatible with the U.S. I'll edit again once I go outside in order to see if it auto connects to HSDPA once I'm out there. It's a good test IMHO as I only have the 1900mhz band of wcdma therefore it doesn't penetrate the walls of my place of work.
edited the post above to fix the URL
I went out and checked. It still requires me to go into wcdma only and then back to wcdma/gsm in order to get hsdpa, also, the changes in phone information still don't stick. I need the actual radio file in a CWM flashable zip. Also, after changing modems to JPP, speed test doesn't work. I'll just uninstall from the market and re-install since the data connection is still works and see if there is any improvement on that front.
Which one is the radio file as opposed to modem file .
jje
EDIT: It's in the modem but not included with the modem as far as I know. Specifically, I need to flash a new Radio Image zip file. I found some through cyanogenmod but I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to use those as they may only be working with cyanogenmod ROMs.
Modems and CSC files flash from an update zip via the rom kitchin .

I edited the post. Those modems don't contain an updated radio image or any radio image, i think. It's more a matter of finding the right radio image file to flash.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940095 It's midway through the first post. I'm not sure if I should flash it with Darky's ROM or not since it's cyanogenmod but I think as long as I switch to the JPY modem it should be fine.
Interesting.... I did some reading on the kitchen modems and apparently they flash a new radio image in the modem where others don't. I looked at my status through "about phone" and my IMEI SV changed from 01 to 02. When I get back outside to where I know I have HSDPA access, I will report on whether this fixes the lack of auto connect to HSDPA from EDGE.
There is no such thing as a radio for galaxy s devices, that is a htc phone term.
Instead, we have modems. The issue you're talking about is probably rom related.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
So, you're saying a re-flash of the ROM then.... I think I've had this issue since Darky's 9.2 and I've flashed through the betas and I'm on 9.3 stable now. I have also done a wipe but not a repartition in Odin. I think Odin is a cleaner install then CWM but it's just so convenient to flash right from the phone. I guess I'll do that then.
Thanks.

Bell i9000m (JL2 build / modem)
I have a question. I installed a GPS optimisation app from the app store and ever since my GPS has been terrible - I'm talking 3-5 mins just to get a lock. Is there a quick/easy solution to this ? I.E. reflash the modem ? I am using a JL2 850 band modem as I am with Bell with an i9000m. Please any assitance or advice would be appreciated.
Also second to this issue is surrounding Darky's Rom - is it possible for i9000m phones on the Bell Band (Jl2 modem) ? any advice ?
Darky's rom works with bell on i9000. Wife has it and works, but the GPS does not lock now.
I have tried all the apps but that is not the issue, its gets max 7 satelites and low signal outside. When trying nav app it will just sit and wait for gps. Turned off network based aiding of gps signal.
Darky's rom v9.3 with JL2 modem
If installing the gps app didn't fix it (would have been good to say what app btw), then you'll need to flash a full rom to refer the change. Flashing modem firmware won't do anything.
All roms can work with 850 3g, comes down to your modem firmware and how the settings are tweaked in the numeric code menu. You can even use 850 3g on non-850 modem firmware without a problem, you just may need to tweak the advanced settings.

I had this same issue (though not with darky's with seeARMS rom) - I'm was using SOK kernel but now im using Damion's ...
I messed it up by installing some GPS optimization app.
Believe it or not I solved it. I uninstalled Audio Galaxy -- not sure why but this worked. Does she have this app
I has similar problem. Phone as delivered had JL2 and I got GPS running by flashing JM9 GPS fix firmware. I backed this running image up with CWM and played a bit with seeARMS rom but it does not have working swype and for some reason Touchdown was reaaaal slow so decide to return to previous image. The CMW restore failed though due to a bad MD5 so I flashed the full JL2 via Odin (a good cleanout) and reflashed the JM9 GPS firmware and fixed the GPS problem again (cleared the GPS stats as well). Now get quick locks even indoors. Why the long story? The fix is repeatable. JK4 modem reportedly gives better performance but I am unlikley to fix what is not broken now. Maybe try JK4 modem first and if does not work then JL2 modem then over flash the JM9 GPS only firmware.

Hey Guys,
I had flashed 2.3.3 JVK Gingerbread to my Canadian Bell Samsung i9000m. Since the flash my cellular signal is extremely poor. Getting 0-1 bar in places I would normally get 4-full on Froyo. With JVK the phone is extremely fast, email app has stopped constantly force closing and for the first time, gps works great! This is why I didn't just want to flash back to Froyo to fix the cell signal issue. I had been told by a member here to ensure that [8]WCDMA 850(FDD V)[*] in the band settings had a star in it. It did not, I had selected it and rebooted, star is now there with no change in signal strength.... So this is my question, am I going to have to flash back to froyo to fix this and once again live without GPS? Or is there a work-around or setting to fix signal strength. ANY help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance..

NA Bell i9000m Vibrant
Flashed to 2.3.3 JVK Gingerbread with Odin with new Bootloaders, no PIT/Repartition.
EVERYTHING else works perfect, except cellphone signal.
**FIXED**
Flashed the KC1 (Bell Canada Update) modem.bin via odin. I now get full signal (84dB) where I had previosly had none. (2.3.3. Modem). Gps working great. Phone still fast as hell.
Also just a follow up, I tried the JL2 modem first but gps failed to lock. Thanks for the advice though the 850mhz was the key!
No no no! Its just your modem, you can flash any modem toy like!
Go for jl2 as it is 850mhz by default.
Just find the jl2 modem. If its a zip then extract modem.bin and place in the pda section of odin. Flash away! If its a .tar file just put this straight in.

Yes you can use any froyo modem.
As for gps... I hear conflicting reports about that. Jl2 tho has great gps from reports.
I found jvk modem to drain heaps standby. Im guessing that without 850mhz band your phone is using a fallback band with worse reception. Ll2 should sort this out

So is the JL2 from 2.2.1?, as with the 2.2 Froyo, my gps was not just being slow, but not functioning at all (0 Locked sat's).
Also, where would I obtain this modem file, and how is it flashed. I ran a search and noticed that some member state it goes into the PDA field in ODIN and other stating it goes into the PHONE field. Also, I have not modified the bootloader,(Stock came with 2.3.3) and I am unsure weather it could be flashed using the update method. As this is my work phone, I need to be sure I will not brick it. Once again, sorry for all the questions, the help is GREATLY appreciated.
**EDIT**
Also, when going into the *#2263#, the 850 Band is listed in both the GSM and CDMA areas, both with a corresponding star in the box beside them. Not sure if this means the band is actually there or not. One thing I am sure of is the fact that with FROYO my signal was perfect, with GPS non existant and phone generally SLOW, with 2.3.3 EVERYTHING is working great with the exception of the cell signal strength. Speed is incredible.
Ah glad to hear you sorted it out! Being half canadian myself I was glad I helped.
