Wondered everyone's opinions on the matter, for all it's worth, despite the lack of support we've had for our Axon's I could and probably will be jumping to the 7, the specs are too good for me to pass up and I can't live without that quality audio anymore. I like my Axon Elite but the Axon 7 is pretty perfect, just needs more support and we'll be golden. Is anyone else here upgrading?
I think exactly the same like you. I'm not completely sure yet about jumping to Axon 7 because before I would like to know another options like Nexus 2016, but after seeing last launched devices from another brands, in my opinion, Axon 7 seems to be the best alternative. The only doubt is about technical support but I think that if Axon 7 is going to work with daydream VR, they neccesary will have to update it to android N. So, it is a kind of guarantee, isn't it?
Yeah, you're definitely right as far as thinking the same way... I mean most people at this point of time see it being a flagship killer, competitive with the S7 Edge, and it has beautiful front-facing speakers which most people (like myself) would die for on my phones since we don't have to look like goofs cupping a phone anymore. That all along with the fact that the specs are quality (including a Samsung-manufactured Camera) all for a decent price... I'm totally blown away!
Now, as you mentioned about the customer service (warranty, general service)... I too am a bit sceptical, especially as this is the same situation which I encountered while thinking that Oneplus would be amazing in every way and that their phones would work perfectly for me... well... soon enough I realized from hearing horror stories from other people that their service is ****. Definitely makes you think twice
Edit: +1 for them including a drop + smashed screen warranty though! (1 or 2 years I think afaik!). I guess it'll just depend on if I can handle waiting xx weeks while it's sent off to who knows where to get fixed if that ever happens.
It would be nice if they have an exchange offer for the axon 7..I have an axon pro haven't been that happy want a nexus or a galaxy which I hate for the software otherwise it's such an all-rounder.
In a heartbeat if root was available. No root is def deal breaker for most people on this forum.
If the bootloader is locked then 0 change I'll get the axon 7.
I sold my Lux I want this phone but the bootloader will probably be locked again.
So will there be root and custom roms for this phone? It's between this and the Oneplus 3 for me but ZTE has much better specs plus that 2 year warranty. It would actually be more expensive to buy the Oneplus 3 with their 2 year protection plan (extra $80).
Waiting to see which one has the better camera. At least the Oneplus 3 will have tons of custom roms , my Oneplus One has been running great on Sultan's CM 13 build.
after how ZTE did us by locking the bootloader and not even root. I will never buy another ZTE device. We have been played all ZTE had to do was give us a code, like HTC does to unlock our bootloader and we assume the responsibility if we were to mess things up, it would not be their fault. I would have signed a no fault clause. NEVER AGAIN ZTE THERE ARE BETTER UNLOCKED AND ROOTABLE DEVICES BEING RELEASED!!! We still don't have root or anything to make this a device to keep I wish ZTE would buy it back, I'm selling it for $250 in mint condition not a scratch on it. if anyone is interested let me know.
ALSO GET ON ZTE AND LET THEM KNOW THAT UNTIL THEY UNLOCK BOOTLOADERS FOR THE AXON PRO WE WILL BOYCOTT THE ZTE AXON 7

Most people couldn't care less about unlocking the bootloader or even rooting their phone.
Most people don't have the time to waste unlocking the bootloader OR rooting their phone.

People on this forum do. This is XDA DEVELOPERS. Of course people want to tinker with software. Don't be so close minded and not let people vent if they are unhappy with a manufacturer. Companies should give customers what they want when it costs them virtually nothing. Most people on this forum want to use their phone for what it is capable of, and that means rooting and custom roms. Don't be a jerk about it. :good:

You are selling an Axon 7 for 250$? You nuts? ;-P
I definitely will not be buying any more ZTE devices. I have the ZTE AXON ELITE A2016. ZTE never gave us an OS upgrade they had promised us. This is unacceptable for a flagship device. Furthermore, I tried Samsung's VR device last month - mind blowingly good. So that's another good reason to head back to Samsung after many years away (I left them because they stopped supporting microSD).
ill also never own a zte device again i picked up a revised made nov 2016 (no bootloop) lg g4 its so much faster than the zte axon a2016 elite despite the worse soc all zte did was make a physically good device with poor software and no updates plus terrible customer service i called lg before buying to get a list of safe serials to buy g4 and they even made me an account and promised a g5 if my g4 dies

So I understand that we have locked bootloader but it seems that these forums are dying. This is the first LG phone ive ever owned but it really feels dead even compared to my Galaxy note 3. It's like nobody is even trying to do anything with it and its made me quite sad. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to make this phone feel fun and different like I remember doing to my Galaxy s2 or s3? I miss the good old days when a new rom came out every week and new exploits came out almost instantly.
Since there is no official unlock method, it's very tough to develop. Even if there was a workaround to unlock, these money hungry CDMA carriers lock us out of fastboot and adb, so it wouldn't be possible either way. I really wish I would've waited for the new Nexus phones or the OnePlus Two.

Wasn't saying it was. I'm saying I wish I would've waited for it. I didn't want a carrier phone to begin with, but the G4 made me want it. Big mistake

I know how you feel. I had mine since release and though I think its an all around great phone root for the most part has done me justice. I just think the general idea of bootloader locking is bull**** and should be illegal. I would love a nexus phone but I will not buy into googles push to cloud storage and their services. I can deal with no removable battery but non expandable memory is a no go. Honestly if/when we get android M on the G3 and we get a custom rom I will go back to it provided the bluetooth issues are ironed out. But thats just my 2 cents

Bootloader unlock, illegal... Really? Please don't be that guy. We bought the phone, we should be able to do what we want to it. That's like buying a car and it being illegal to change your own oil.
You might want to read that again. Where did I state that UN locking it should be illegal. I said the whole boot loader locking thing is bs ie we should not be locked out from it.
I called LG and talk to a tech who told me if I send my phone to them they would unlock my bootloader but it would void my warranty and of course I already knew that but I was just shocked that they said yes instead of telling me no.
Hi all. I'm posting this in General because it's a general request. I'd like to see if we can pressure LG a little by sending as many requests as we possibly can to get them to reconsider their stance on this locked bootloader crap. Here is a copy of what I sent. I encourage everyone to register at the LG Developer site and post their requests. I also emailed them at with the following:

To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to you today with a request for more information regarding the locked bootloader of all LG G4 devices, save the European G4 variant, the H815.
In the past, LG has been a developer friendly company that has, albeit somewhat grudgingly, supported development of custom software for their devices. As the owner of many LG devices, it saddens me to no end that your company no longer seems to support the unlocking of its many Android devices.
Unlocking one variant whilst refusing to even consider unlocking the others in a series is tantamount to shooting yourselves in the foot as a company. While many believe that securing the bootloader will prevent warranty issues with the devices in question, by not allowing the software (and hardware) to be utilised to its full potential, you run the risk of people attempting to modify their phones through unsupported and unsafe means, increasing the overall cost of replacements and repairs to both yourself as well as the companies you supply with these devices.
Furthermore, you have not released the source for all the G4 variants, which makes testing almost impossible.
We, the staff at Tofflemire Tech Solutions, as well as the development community as a whole, respectfully request that you consider unlocking the bootloaders of your devices, specifically the G4 and G5 variants. We also respectfully request that, should you continue to keep these bootloaders locked, that you provide us with a reason as to why they cannot/should not be unlocked.
Respectfully,
David Tofflemire, Lead Consultant

I support you , and i also write in LG. Please send answer LG, if they respond.
They're being real bastards about this, but I'll tell you what... Despite the G series being the perfect design for a giant like me, I will NOT be buying the G5 unless its bootloader is unlocked on ALL carrier variants. As much as I loathe to abandon LG, the in-hand comfort just isn't enough to make me stay when I can't flash my own kernel for battery optimizations, or my own radio for signal improvements, or my own ROMs for overall performance boosts and the ability to convert it to (with the exception of proprietary blobs for certain hardware) an open phone, free of Google services or any nonfree software.
LG really screwed the pooch with the G4 by taking a phone with great specs, expandability options, and form factor considerations then locking it down for no good reason aside from "warranty" issues. Fact is, 90% of us would restore it back to stock in a way that THEY can't even tell it's been modified as the VERY FIRST thing we'd do if it bricked, and if that didn't fix it, then it most likely is a valid warranty issue and not something the user did.

Yeah, I think most of us here won't be staying with LG in the future.
As oneplus 3T is a controversial launch for all op3 owners and its dev community, this question came in my mind. We all know how oneplus is treating op2 after release of op3, I am just worried they are gonna do the same with Op3 by discontinuing it. And will the same happen with op3T also when again after few months they will come with another new flagship Op4...
As for now, they have proven to be mistrusted, so I'd say they'll discontinue just like they did before.
I don't think they'll be on a 6 month release schedule.
Finally, OnePlus told us this is not indicative of a new line-up and that users should not infer that there will be two separate SKUs (one being superior) in 2017 and beyond — they claim that the OnePlus 3T is a situational phenomenon . . .

I expect they'll release the OP4 around this time next year or a bit earlier. This device mainly seems to be a challenge to the Pixel (and it serves to better position their releases for Christmas sales?)
Sell the 3T for $350 and get the 4, $100 every 6 months or $200 per year for a flagship product is one hell of a deal...
Hopefully there won't be an OP 4T, there will just be an OP 4 this time next year.
Best guess. There'll be a OP4 in six months and another OP device six months after that. This is what a smaller company does. This is what Chinese mobile phone companies do - they release new versions all the time and are continually releasing new devices with the latest hardware.

I think they see it as loosing their bragging rights, since they no longer have "the best" that company makes. It's irrational and somewhat childish, technology does move forward and the phone they bought didn't get any worst because of this (in fact it's still one of the very best around).
To finish my rambling:
1) Buy what you need, not what consumerism and marketing departments tells you to.
2) Once you do buy something, take the most out of it while it still works. I believe that is why we are all here at XDA, is it not?

This is silly. I still have an awesome phone, better software, greater development than virtually any phone, and have gotten great customer service from OnePlus. Every time I have had to deal with Customer Service/ Tech Support, they have been very helpful and answered all my questions, plus have been extremely efficient when handling various situations and when I had to RMA my device they emailedme almost daily to keep me abreast of what was happening with my device. They have already provided several updates and Nougat is in beta testing, but if you don't want to wait, there are plenty of third party Nougat roms already available. The reason they are available, they released all sources and posted stock roms. So I am not sure why you are so butt hurt and say they are proven to be mistrusted just because they released a new device?
Do you guys think it's better to wait for 1+4 or go with 1+3t?
I can resist... but i don't know if my Nexus5 can do it too.
I've read some of the rumors (2k, 4000mah), but i don't know if they can be trusted.
Sorry if i've made any mistakes, but i'm new :>
IMHO, wait if you can. If any of the rumoured specs are right, this should be a really good device! If you can't wait, check out the 3 on eBay. Now that the 3T is out, 3's are showing up for discounts. Seen them as cheap as $310.
Thanks.
I guess I'll wait...
The downside is that there is no specific date nor price around :/
You know, waiting and then it turns out that 1+4 costs 550/600€ would probably kill me...
Like Xiaomi did with Mi Note 2.
Thanks for the advice!

Don't wait.. If you really wanna buy a new phone, do it now. New devices will always come and manufactures themselves will always make them outdated in few months. So don't wait, buy Op3/Op3t whichever is available in your country and enjoy.
That's how it works.

But i prefer waiting (if my N5 allows me to ) and get a phone with a 2k screen.
1+3t will be available in one week from today... I'm gonna start to count six months from that day asd.

In what way they lied? Did they say that they won't release new phone before next year or what? Why they have to keep 1 year cycle? Because you want them to? What does it change for OP3 user? Their phone specs will get lower somehow? You are getting what you paid for but you expect to be the best for one whole year? Everyone will wait?
I am very happy that they improve, because why not? And it is actually not that they released new phone, they had to produce them more and it was probably just easier to put 821 and battery is just using different voltage.
A lot of butt-hurt here...

I get what you are saying, but that's just how customer point of view, not necessary what explicitly stated by the manufacturer. But, even if what you said is true about standard phones then exactly what exactly is standard? I mean Samsung have tons of phone out each year, and you could also say both the Galaxy S and Note series are just half a year apart, yes they are not exactly the same series of phone, but in many PoV, they are close enough. As far as the manufacturer PoV is concern, OP is considered relatively small company, making two similar phones simultaneously would cost more for them, and thus it make economic sense. But seriously, why would it bother you or anyone? I mean, it is stupid to think that they can't get better android phone half a year from now. Seriously, every month, there is at least a new android phone and most customers would look at the phone that suit them best, or whatever that have the latest and greatest features.
You mention the Samsung phones and yes they are similar but it isn't the exact same model.
Also the note and S series are aimed at different people. I wouldn't want a mobile any bigger than 5.5 and before the op3 I wasn't even sure i wanted to more up to 5.5
If they told customers they were releasing a 3T more people would have waited .
Also I can tell support for the OP3 is going to slowly fade away and be in the same position as the OP2

2K screen, or you mean UHD screen? I have a note 4 right now, and even Notebook w/ UHD, but seriously even after a year and looking at the current situation, i think it's a bit overrated. There still isn't a lot of app or software that take full advantage of that high res. Yes, the screen look nice but only to a certain point. In most cases, it won't be distinguishable from 1080p screen. What suck about it is that your graphic gaming performance will suffer because it's now 4 times the pixels it have to render, and also battery life. Hence I'm leaving the Note 4 to the OP3T.
Should I return my new Mate 10 pro?
very new here. Bought mate 10 pro from amazon recently. Absolutely love the phone. it's so snappy and has fantastic camera and battery life. infact got one for my wife who loves the phone too. But, there are news/rumours circulating that Huawei plans to completely abandon mate 10 pro in north America and last update was in sometime in march.
While rest of the world with same model gets updates it looks like Huawei has turned a blind eye to customers who purchased in the US.
I'm not on of those guys who is willing to root or change device version to get updates. it is one of the reasons to buy a premium device. I'm wondering if I should carry a premium device with no updates in the horizon. I mean I'm not really sure if there is any point in doing so.
Still have about 10 days left. Should I return it or just hope Huawei will update this device and hold on?
are there other easy options to get timely updates?your thoughts pls....

Hard question, huawei support will probably give you a bs answer so thzat you keep the phone.
I havent heard that they are abandoning the US handsets from what I heard they just late on updates but so are the UK and Australia. For all i know you should not keep the phone if timely updates are important to you.
If you love the phone exept for that one fact i think it is worth keeping it. there is no perfect phone and if updates are not your biggest concern then be it. LG and samsung lack behind on updates even more. so in this regard you are still alright (my friend once did not receive one update in 6 months on his s8 last year) LG v30 (flagship of last year) just got the oreo update.
If you ask me your phone wont be hacked and destroyed if you dont have the latest android security patches (many oems got caught faking the newest versions anyway). and for the safety of your data: lol you give them away for free to all those tech companies anyway so why bother, the intelligence services already have access.
and especially all this huawei is a bad chinese spying company stories are completely made up and not backed by any evidence. this is coming from the only country that actually got caught (snowden leaks) so i would highly doubt everything these "intelligence" services say without providing solid evidence.

I called support yesterday after seeing that article. They told me the US Mate 10 Pro is definitely getting face unlock, camera enhancements and EMUI 8.1 but no guarantee on GPU Turbo... It sucks. I am disappointed. You are better off returning the Mate 10 Pro and getting a P20 Pro. The P20 Pro allows for VoLTE on US carriers including T-Mobile and AT&T out of the box and then you'll get the updates we all want. The international version of the Mate 10 Pro, the BLA-L29, does not support VoLTE out of the box. You have to unlock bootloader and root the phone to make that work and then you'll get the updates you want but I believe every time you update your phone from that point on, you have to set it up from scratch...

I contacted Huawei service as well and they did mention that US version will get an update. I guess US model will be among the last to receive updates as Huawei really doesn't have much market here so they would focus more on other regions. If slow software updates bugs you, yes return the phone. I have been using this phone for 6 months now and i like it except for few s/w bugs which are annoying but not deal breaker for me. Hopefully 8.1 will fix most of those.

US is not getting GPU update. But seemingly everything else but last in line

spoke with CSR. He didn't give out too much information. He said that this is a new device and chances for not having updates is highly unlikely given huawei is selling these phones as unlocked in US with warranty.
He said it may get delayed depending on when the software is tested and ready for release. But again no commits since he didn't have any dates. The only thing he told was he cannot comment on news from third party sites.

Don't get hung up on GPU turbo update. I work for the world's best GPU company (NVIDIA) . The numbers they quote are usually fudged. Yes you can have 10-15% perf enhancement with improved power efficiency, But don't read too much into it.
Now coming back to my usage, I rarely game. My usage is usually email, browser, messages, maps. I have moved away from all this phone gaming 3-4 years back. So your news that all updates except GPU turbo update sounds encouraging to me. But then again I'm not sure if I want to buy a sales tech support specialist. Still dilly dallying on my decision to keep the phone or not.
Phone is too good. Just worried about not even getting security updates let alone major updates.

You make excellent points. I don't game on my phone either. They are making the USA wait the longest just with general updates which I'm unhappy with on my BLA-A09. And on my home rig I have a GTX 1080. I'm very happy with Nvidia.

The BLA-L29 works in the USA with VoLTE with which carriers? Maybe you misunderstand me? I said the BLA-L29 does not work with any US carriers with VoLTE. Huawei locked it down since they have a US version of the phone, the BLA-A09.
I'm sincerely curious because I've tried many and have not had success. Definitely did not work with T-Mobile...

lol sorry i just read the part with the mate 10 pro, skipped details on the p20 sentence. sorry
Just picked one up as well on Amazon prime day and also felt a little weary because of lack of updates and also spoke to tech support and reassured me that updates will still come, but not in the manner the rest of the world is receiving. They still intend to be a player in the states in the future so it makes sense for them to continue to support their small fanbase currently in the states. And it seems they have a location in Texas dedicated for phone repairs, and maybe I'm reading too much into it, but hopefully it means they're investing/gambling on a future here in the states.
I have the mate 10 pro usa version ...If I had the option to get it today I would not get it, not because it's not a fantastic phone but because after speaking to their customer service today, the details which I posted in another thread, they have obviously relegated the usa models to unwanted cousin status. It's possible it may get future updates but it is not in their priorities.
I would either get a different make like the oneplus with usa support or get an international version of the P20 or the upcoming mate 20, definitely not a usa model, unless you get it at a bargain price.
Hmm, still interested in buying, but maybe its better to spend the extra $30 on Amazon to get the international version (BLA-L29) and avoid the US model.
Amazon Germany now sells it for 450€ compared to the starting price of 800€ (with tax). I think roughly 40% discount on whatever it started at in the US is a good deal. If you'd only save like 25% for a 'previous-year-flagship' i think its too expensive. Here in Germany/Europe prices of Android phones drop very fast. Especially LG and samsung. The G7 hit us with the ridiculous price of 850€ in Mai and dropped down to 575€ (30%) already, in just 2 months. Samsung S9 dropped from 850€ to 590€ (30%) in 4 months. Thats why the oneplus 6 isnt really the "cheap alternative" here, all the other phones, released before one plus, dropped to 500-600 already.
Then again I dont know how prices develop in the US in general. I would not suggest buying it for more than 65% of its starting price. Thats still too expensive for a phone that wont see much support and with last year's soc. (On the contrary, an extra good deal should be what justifies the bad update policy.)
If I had to choose today, I would opt for a OnePlus 6. It has an attractive price and software support, decent battery life and a faster (future proof) soc. I really think that all the downsides of the OnePlus (mono speaker, camera just under the top 5 and missing ip67) don't overshadow the overall package you get. Especially since there are the exact same waterproofing rubber bands used to seal up the phone than with all the ip67/8 phones.
Same boat, I bought one on Prime Day. Fantastic phone, super fluid, quick, fastest camera I've ever used. The news since on the GPU update, which isn't the be-all as it only works with a limited number of titles at present, is worrisome. While I don't need constant android patches, once every month or two would be nice. - For some reason, I'm not a Samsung fan, can't explain it, just not. Came off a ZTE Axon 7, which was a great phone for 2 years, but the Mate 10 Pro just flies.
What are the options to rebrand to another country on the BLA-L09? - Worth doing, do we loose anything, does anything stop working, and can it still be done?
I just saw that this phone is back down to $499 on Amazon. Then I remembered that the Huawei unlock program ends tomorrow...
I personally like the Samsung brand.
Huawei
Sony
This would be soo much better if we had a poll.
My brand preference changes from time to time. Use to really like Xiaomi but have been a bit disappointed by them lately so am considering something else.
I use to like HTC back in the day, however they're no longer available locally.
Redmi
well... i dont really have an unique brand that i like the most, but i will go with Xiaomi, Samsung and maybe Apple
For the hate... i hate Motorola because of their only one system update even on most expensive phones, the fact that the system updates from them literally destroys your device update by update and because they do literally evertything possible to block you from unlocking your bootloader and if you unlock it you cant relock it to be in the same way that it used to be before you unlocked.
Damn i hate Motorola

Motorola still allows bootloader to be unlocked.
The part u said expensive your not wrong I brought Motorola G7 back in 2019 in June or July I believe it cost 300$ on Amazon trust me it doesn't even have 128gb and only 4g ram.
It does have few custom ROM but not a lot I thought it was gonna get more ahead a time before I brought the phone I only checked to see if it had TWRP/lineage os didn't checked others also didn't knew orangefox was thing back then when I got phone. I had phone now for 3 years now I'm gonna keep phone until something happens to it then I'm probably gonna buy new phone. Most phones only last up to few years of course depending how long u use it everyday my phone probably not gonna last another 3 years eventually something gonna happen to it like battery or even hardware.
