Sadly, Google CEO Eric Schmidt has confirmed that there wont be a Nexus Two:
http://androinica.com/2010/07/05/go...oming-that-means-a-nexus-two-is-coming-right/
Im actually really disappointed, as I planned on selling my Nexus One to upgrade to the Nexus Two. Then it made me wonder....I wonder now if the resale price on the Nexus One will go higher, as this is the only phone Google had directly manufactured for them?
I managed to get 120 euros for my old G1 when I sold it, and it was a year old (I babied it and kept it in FLAWLESS condition). I paid 370 Euros for my Nexus One (contract free) from someone who had purchased it from Google directly and only had it for a week. I wonder now if when January comes around, if I can get more for it now?
Would you sell your Nexus One later this year if you knew you could get more for it than what you paid? And if you could, do you think its worth it to sell it or hold onto it? Do you think Nexus Ones that came directly from Google vs a carrier will be worth more?
Thoughts?

I paid $199 for my AT&T 3G Band Nexus One & Dock... I'm pretty sure I could get back what I paid now, even if they do make a N2
They should release a Nexus 2 but as a limited edition phone...just make like 200K of the handsets...high quality...make a flagship Android phone...it'd go great with the dev and geek community. A Nexus every year.

Brilliant idea! I really feel that Google needs to put out their own phone regularly, as a high Android powered device running stock Android is in my eyes badly needed. The thing is, I dont think Google is pulling our chains on this. I really dont think another phone will come directly in the same form that the Nexus One did.
Im sure alot of people including myself would scoop up 200,000 of these handsets in a relatively short amount of time.
I personally think thats a great idea, as I love the fact that I dont walk around seeing everyone and their mother having my phone
Then what will be the next phone to receive updates without carrier consent? Or the next developer phone entirely? Or the next phone with fastboot OEM unlock? There may not be a Nexus two, but there needs to be a equivalent.
My nexus is going in my permanent collection I think. It's too nice of a phone to sell when I'm done with it. Maybe I'll change my mind later, but It's almost like a collectors phone in a way.

yep...and then it's exclusive status will cause it to sell out faster...maybe the year after they can up it to 500K and soon the Nexus brand will be widely known as quality and exclusivity..."oh you have an iPhone 6? well **BAM** I have a Nexus 3, you were saying?"
You guys are forgetting that Google has never really been about content CREATION. The nexus was some kind of weird test for them and their production/marketing teams. They're much happier (as an organization) to either be a link from others' created content or to provide backend support for others. They don't want to be in the production, direct selling, QA, and support business. This is why you'll probably never see another google phone.
very disappointing, but a pretty cool way of backing off. not like apple where they give you the 3G then the 3GS, hate their upgrades.
i dunno what i'm supposed to get after the N1 grows old someday.
planning on getting another one before the online store closes.

That's rumored for this winter: http://androidspin.com/2010/06/24/rumor-dual-core-800mhz-phone-hitting-t-mobile-before-holidays/
im gonna hang on to alexis, my nexus, for a bit and retire it as i did my adp1. i think the htc sidekick looks like a worthy replacement in the specs but if its got a ui over stock android im out. Nothing beats having a unbranded device.
i was really looking forward to nexus successors. As a TMobile customer it was my strongest hope of having high powered stock Android options
But what if gingerbread doesnt eliminate other skins like google hopes it will? These other stupid companies have worked hard to put their stupid skins (other than HTC's Sense obviously) on these otherwise great android phones, maybe they wont want to just drop their development.
Then maybe Google would release a phone to display their own UI like they put out the nexus to set the previous bar...

Honestly mate, that's what's happened to the iPhone, don't cha think? At least that's how it is in Singapore. Every other schmuck has an iPhone. To think that not too long ago, anything with an "i" as the first letter in its name was something to be proud of. Now it's a phone for the masses.
What I'm trying to say is, I suppose Schmidt had his heart in the right place when he decided to announce that Google's pulled the plug on the project..
However having said that, a "limited edition" every year (to the date, e.g. 5 Jan 2011 for N2) would be wicked

We're all aware of Google's "Do No Evil" motto aren't we? Taking that into consideration I'd say that a more likely route Google may take is to mandate that its partners (Moto, HTC, Acer, etc., ) must, to the best of their abilities, educate their customers on the choices they have (stock vs. something-meatier-on-top [e.g. Sense UI]), and to allow these customers to easily switch between UIs.
Remember how in the earlier builds of HTC's Desire, you could actually "force stop" the Sense UI like any other app? Something like that, just intentional this time

yea you could forcestop the sense homescreen, but that's about it...you couldn't do anything about the systemwide integration of sense.
If these OEMs made their skins like home replacements or something and simply disabled stock launcher that'd be great...that way regular joes would use their OS and the more tech savvy people would easily disable the OEM home replacement. Then updates would probably happen faster as well.

I don't think you need to go looking for a phone as such, I think they find you in a way.....
I went to the shop for my upgrade and saw the G1 for the first time, bang! that was it! that was the handset I wanted.
I then wanted the Hero and I'm now on the Nexus.
Of all the phones out now there is truly not one I want, I'd love a mash up of a couple though! (Samsung S Amoled screen, Desire radio, 8mb camera with Dual flash, HD video, hard buttons...etc).
Basically, until a new hadset comes out, makes me want I don't go looking.
http://www.facebook.com/motorola?sk=wall&filter=1 click the link people like it and comment on it.
I have seen first hand proof of this working. I had an evo 3d. Htc decided all futre devices would have locked bootliaders well that made alot of people angry. Someone posted a thread on xda suggesting we let htc know that is not gna fly. So it turnd out thousands of people got on there facebook wall and twitter. Guess what the next day htc released a statement saying that they wanted too keep there coustamers happy and that the bootloader would be unlocked. They were. Id like to be able too have a device and not have too get a new one juzt because moto or htc or sammy wants too put them out constantly get people too buy them and then ditch them and out out another. The atrix is 100 percent capable of runing ics and theres no excuae for it l not too recieve it just because moto wants people too buy new devices every couple months. I know many many people feel the same way well as i said we have the power too change that if people would stop bickering and take it seriously. And also if moto started supporting devices longer not just bug fixes but the new android flavors. Id definately make my next device a moto it would do nothing but benefit them
Why are we discussing/petitioning something that we don't know? Has it been set in stone that manufacturers will not support us anymore or is this all stemming from paranoia?
Because it is the trend. And the atrix 2 has been released already. All the manufactures with the exception of sammy have been doing this more and more lately abandoning. Devices. And pumping out new ones. At a very fast pace
So you are saying they are not going to support the atrix anymore since they released the atrix 2? I'd rather wait till this actually happens before i draw a conclusion. e.g. when ICS gets released and they say they are not going to update the atrix.

Look at the original Incredible.
My wife's one has been turned to **** since the 2.3.4 update, and nothing from HTC, and Verizon pretty much said too bad so sad. Buy another phone or deal with it.
So yes, support will be dropped for older models whether you like to assumed it or not.

No it is obvious support is going to be dropped for old models. But he is implying that models released this year will not get support.
I think for every $10 a phone costs over $50 on launch day (on contract) is how many months it should be updated for. So a $300 phone should be kept updated for 25 months. So this would either keep phone prices lower or keep them updated.
Facebook is a poor way of getting the attention of corporations. You want them to change? Buy a nexus phone. Money talks.

I think ICS only has support for Armv7 currently, so phones with those SoCs will get updated. However, phones using custom UIs will experience a longer waiting time, maybe around early Q1 of 2012. HTC has released like 1000 phones in the last few months and I doubt most will get ICS soon, not sure if Moto will bother at all. But it might be better to wait and actually see what goes down, like you said.
Has HTC in fact locked a boot loader or withheld hardware drivers?
I intend for my next phone to be HTC just because of the hell Samsung put us though trying to get GB on the i9000.

You can unlock them direct with HTC, but you loose all warranty. As per HTC.

As I understand it, you lose all ROM related warranty, so for instance if your screen fails then you're still covered.
Motorola unlocking bootloaders ??
you should check this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316722
I had a motorola xt720.... not the best phone..but was ok. Motorola decided to stop supporting it within 4 months of launch or something stupid like that. No new updates no nothing. And still insisted on the bootloader staying locked so the dev's found it alot harder to do their job for them.
I will never ever buy a motorola product again.
The market is fairly competitive ... don't buy from companies that pull this crap

This seems to have been built into all recent Motorola Phones way before ICS but the ICS recovery is the first program to display this info to the average user. It's nothing Moto couldn't retrieve before....

I can't argue about that, but now the store has a very quick way to say screw you we aren't helping. I will never go to the store for support because I can get better, faster and more accurate help on this forum. Its more so the principle on how Motorola is just finding more and more ways to drive people away.
Screw moto! That's why I got a gnex and would never buy a moto phone again! It is BS!
I'm willing to bet all ICS capable phones by all manufactures have this built in. The only difference is they may not choose to let you know it's there by letting it show up in the recovery screen.
Thats motorolla for you. I bought a used gnex took it to Verizon and it was unlocked and rooted with a custom rom. They did not even care they said I could still get Assurian insurance and just put it back to stock and re lock the boooader before sending it in. They did not even care at the store.
hi.im a loyal Samsung customer. i love their innovations, their experimentation, their ideas!
i love Note series, since Note 1, i never got anyother daily driver phone. it was always Note! the refined version of their S line.
Everybody knows how samsung treated Note 4. it is left like it is not even one of their own.
im not living in Europe or USA or Canada, where u can get subsidy from carriers and get a new phone and pay the rest monthly.
i have to get the cash, get it for almost 40% higher price than its price, or get it imported . i got mine imported.
Yesterday my Note 4 screen gave up on me. the left side of the display flickered and glitched out on its own for NO reason at all! i didnt drop it, i didnt put weight on it, it didnt get wet, NOTHING! all on its own, and mind u its only 20 days old phone.
its under warranty but i cant claim it cause i got it from UK and now i cant go back or send it back cause that would take time and lots of money especially when, if fixed, it comes back.
now i gave it for repair but they didnt satisfy me and said that these issues were common with S5 and onward phones from samsung. risk is higher cause it can be LCD issue which will cost me around $200, where i got this phone for $550
i had a Tab S8.4 this January, that had TERRIBLE battery issue, and after that motherboard died and i had to sell in for parts!
now all these stories and whats the outcome?
well i see many people here saying that looking at support from samsung for note 4 , they will not be getting any more samsung device, and blah blah.... then how come samsung sell millions of newer releases especially in European countries and USA? i mean, majority of their sales are in these areas right?
its sad, how **** their QC has gone, and even software support is ****! everyone knows they will not release 5.1 for international models until after Note 5 comes out.
Note 4 was supposed to be DAWN of new design language for samsung especially for their Flagships, but where is that philosophy now?
im not trying to be that mean dude, but it hurts when u spend ur hard earned money, u wait for a device u love, u get that and after 20 days u find its screen glitch out for no ****ING reason!
this is second time within few months, samsung betrayed me.
and its not just me, no major update in almost a year is bad from samsung.
so all who are saying they will not get Note 5 for lack of SD card slot, or removable battery, PLS STICK TO YOUR WORDS!
they have really really turned themselves like apple. samsung is the new apple now... but atleast, Apple knows a thing or two about QC and Software support. because without software support these phones are nothing more than a piece of hardware!
Unnecessary thread is unnecessary.

Why buy an imported version? Imports always have their risks no matter the brand. A screen replacement is always expensive due to the high costs of the amoled display (oem displays are always much more expensive than their knockoffs). Did you try calling a samsung service center for help? Sometimes they honor the warranty even if it is an import. If not then just send it back to the store you bought it from (should be cheaper than replacing the screen).

i knew i would get such comments and even hate for this. its not a personal matter.
i would eventually get my issue fixed, that not the problem. the problem is Samsung's behavior to its customers.
its us buying their products and when people find unnecessary issues and lack of support from company, we rage like hell. but then at the end we go and buy another one of their over priced product and the cycle keeps going on and on....
the reason of this thread is not to bash samsung or to bash its customers in anyway. i myself like samsung but not anymore and thats because of no one else but samsung themselves.
its only US, customers who can fix lot of issues.
im sure many here would understand my point, sad you didn't

Look it's not that I don't understand your point, it's the fact that your thread number 500 on this subject. I've already said I'm not buying another Samsung product.. I love my note 4 but have grown to dislike the lack of updates and most definitely the lack of open source on the TW side of things.
This is what happens when you take risks for granted. That extra 40% for a local version probably doesn't seem so bad now. You should consider an import as a no warranty device, not to mention you rooting it as well. I don't think I would purchase any kind of device today for $550 without some kind of warranty, unless I had 100% certainty the device would not fail.
I knew the risk when I bought my Note 4 and rooted it the second I brought it home. That was a $700 risk I was willing to accept with nobody else to blame but myself. (Of course I used the ol' amex warranty safety net, I am not totally reckless)
Conclusion: Suck it up, move on, and hopefully learn something from the experience.
I'm with you. The Note 4 amazed me when I got it, but the Lollipop update and amazingly long delays in fixing the issues, seeing all Samsungs old, ****ty models getting 5.1.1 before their newest most expensive flagship phone really soured me off the experience. With the Note 5 looking total ****, it seems like there's no real reason to stay with Samsung. Great hardware (except the Note 5), but their support and software are ****.
I totaly agree with you and I will not buy any Samsung phone/product in the future. I have Note 4 and Tab S and on Note 4 I had to lose warranty and root it to get the ROM that is working to some point and on Tab S I have stock and it is HORRIBLE! Gr8 piece of HW with crappy SW = not worth it! Thx to this incompetent Samsung like engeniers Apple is still on top thx to good support and great SW with lesser HW.

So I understand that we have locked bootloader but it seems that these forums are dying. This is the first LG phone ive ever owned but it really feels dead even compared to my Galaxy note 3. It's like nobody is even trying to do anything with it and its made me quite sad. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to make this phone feel fun and different like I remember doing to my Galaxy s2 or s3? I miss the good old days when a new rom came out every week and new exploits came out almost instantly.
Since there is no official unlock method, it's very tough to develop. Even if there was a workaround to unlock, these money hungry CDMA carriers lock us out of fastboot and adb, so it wouldn't be possible either way. I really wish I would've waited for the new Nexus phones or the OnePlus Two.

I just think the general idea of bootloader locking is bull**** and should be illegal. I would love a nexus phone but I will not buy into googles push to cloud storage and their services. Honestly if/when we get android M on the G3 and we get a custom rom I will go back to it provided the bluetooth issues are ironed out. But thats just my 2 cents

Bootloader unlock, illegal... Really? Please don't be that guy. We bought the phone, we should be able to do what we want to it. That's like buying a car and it being illegal to change your own oil.
You might want to read that again. Where did I state that UN locking it should be illegal. I said the whole boot loader locking thing is bs ie we should not be locked out from it.
I called LG and talk to a tech who told me if I send my phone to them they would unlock my bootloader but it would void my warranty and of course I already knew that but I was just shocked that they said yes instead of telling me no.
