Headset problem (can't recognize the mic) - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody
So, I bought new Headset (Roccat Syva)
The problem is that the Xperia Z can't recognize the mic and the control button.
The headset working perfectly on other android phones can recognize the headset the control and microphone.
I already tried to repair the phone via Sony companion ,and nothing helped.

maybe not fully compatible with your Z, or..
you can try to clean both your headphone jack and your headset connector with alcohol or proper liquid cleaner
it worked for me when sometimes my Z can't detect the headset
otherwise, maybe a hardware problem

if the headphone control and mic is fully working on 2 or 3 other device, maybe it's not fully compatible with your phone, or there is a hardware problem

Only compatibility problem would be if headphones have second version of 4-pin connector where Ground pin is swapped with Microphone pin.
Most of phones after 2012(after Xperia S) switched to CTIA standard where last pin(sleeve) is for microphone. Xperia Z use this standard, but Im not sure about those headphones.
If Headphones work with other devices(made after 2012-2013) its not headphones fault, and you should look for problems in your XZ mini-jack connector, especially first pin. Hard to check in home conditions without phone disassemble but with good eye and flashlight its possible to check those pins and if there are any dust/objects there.
But before that I would recommend checking application from Sony:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonymobile.extras.liveware.extension.smartkey
and
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonyericsson.extras.liveware
They control how headphones behave on phone and maybe there you could find solution to turn on mic/controls

Headphone Jack issues

Hi There everyone,
Well i just got my XPERIA Z1 yesterday and i had spilt water on it. All the flaps were closed and i had dried it all off. Afterwards (1 and a half hours later) i decided to listen to some music but the problem was that as soon as i inserted my headphones into the jack it would not play any sound from the headphone itself, it would only play the sound from the phone's speakers. The headphones were working perfectly normal in the morning when i was using the phone before i spilt the water. I assumed that the headphone jack had not fully dried so i left it for about 3-4 hours and now as soon as i plugged in my headphones the same problem came. I tried the original sony headphones that came in the box and there is a strange static/buzzy coming from the headphone and yet the sound would slightly play from the phones speakers. I do not know what to do and this is not exactly what i expected from a waterproof phone.
THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN DONE: I have updated my phones software to the latest, i have tried switching it off and on again and tried using both sony headphones including the original one.
If anybody comes up with a solution to this i would be extremely grateful.

get a q-tip or earbud and clean and make sure the inside of the headphone jack is completly clean and dry.
I highly doubt it would have not dried after so many hours, i live in a hot country and i just came from outside and i tried again, and yet i am still facing problems.
can anybody please help? Am i the only one who is experiencing this???
this has been discussed many times, it seems to be a software fault possibly due to smart connect, unless you indeed have a defective unit. try turning on and off smart connect and the profiles associated with your headphones, that did it for me.
hi i put some water on my z1 and the headphone jack is no longer working as the headphones are not getting detected, any sound comes through the speakers and not the heaphones. can anybody hep?

Sounds like a defective unit (i.e. water seeps into the headphone jack).

Firstly, ensure that the Event(s) are turned on in Smart Connect.
Secondly, it could possibly be because of your defective jack that the phone is unable to detect your headphone being plugged in, and that's why the Event is not triggered.

I have hardware problem (i think). Tried changing firmware, cleaning jack etc...still not working. So the question is: if the water really damaged jack, can replacing it fix the problem?

[Q] 3.5mm Aux jack problem

Hey guys I have a rooted Z1 running the latest .757 i flashed this mod onto my Xperia Z1 for a volume boost
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2476498
I was playing songs on Soundcloud in my car suddenly one speaker stops working I think the Aux cable is just faulty I try a friend's phone it works fine I tried headphones same and i think the left external speaker isn't working either.
I reverted the mod didn't help :S anything I can do to get this fixed?
A kind of Mod like that cannot do damage on your hardware.
Did you try this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2639862
Also Try to clean Data and Cache in the app, Repair the phone with PCC, if you still not fix the issue I think your AUX Jack just die and you can claim it via warranty.

Did you check your headphones, did they work? Maybe you have damaged your motherboard with soldering.
I just had the same problem after replacing the lcd/touchscreen.
I checked the continuity of the ribbon, and that was ok.
Then i checked the continuity of the speaker, that was ok.
Then i removed the speaker from the plastic enclosure and placed it on top of the metal contact pads while playing some music - and it worked.
So it turns out that the contact legs on the speaker are not in alignment with the pads when it was installed into the plastic enclosure and that was back in the phone.
I hope that helps.
:fingers-crossed:

This sounds similar to the problem I had, im not sure if it was moisture damage or if the headphone jack is damaged. Do headphones play sound okay? If so its probably doing what mine did where it doesnt detect the headphones being removed and thinks they are still plugged in. My problem sorted itself out, I just happened to be using a aux cable for a car stereo and after unplugging, the speakers magically started outputting again.

Having the same issue, it's the headphone jack. I temp fixed it by constantly plugging my headphones in and out but it comes back after a while
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app

Ive found the headphone jack on a few websites which sell parts for our SP, would replacing the jack solve the issue do you think? The part is small and uses a clip in ribbon cable so I don't think it would be too difficult to do. Before my issue fixed itself, I was considering buying the jack and attempting to replace it, I just wasn't sure if that would actually fix the issue.

Headphone slot not working, any hope?

So my headphone jack packed in today, but I was thinking.
Can I use an OTG device (micro usb to 3.5mm) to utilize audio provided im on Lollipop? (idk if its on older versions)
I havent got the money or time at the moment to replace it, i just need a cheap alternative to last me until I do. Thanks!

Could you describe your problems with headphone jack? Probably we are facing the same issue. For example, my proximity and ambient light sensors are working, but headphones aren't (sensors are attached to the headphone connector). Replacement part arrived today, I replaced it, and my headphones still aren't working. Actually, they do, but the volume is so low, I almost can't hear anything.

My headphone jack just doesnt work, everything else seems to. If i push down on the headphone wire when in the jack i get audio out of one ear but thats it. I resorted to buying a pair of bluetooth headphones. They work amazingly.

Exactly the problems I'm facing with, and I think I'll solve it the same way you did.
