Is there a guide anywhere on how to install 4.4.2 on the Dev Ed phones?
Assume I can just use TWRP for root after updating?
Thanks!

Are you rooted now? If you are rooted, as long as you haven't changed any of the system files you can install the .zip through the stock recovery and you're good to go (you don't lose root).
If you aren't rooted, just install the .zip through the stock recovery and then flash TWRP recovery and root.
Assuming you have an unlocked bootloader, flashed TWRP and rooted (but no other changes, no VZWentitlement hacks, delete/removing/renaming any apps from /system/app or /system/priv-app, no Xposed Installer and modules installed, etc...).
Download the 4.4.2 update .zip to your phone.
Flash the stock recovery back to your phone.
Boot to recovery and install the .zip you downloaded.
Done.
You'll need to find the .zip and download it.
You'll need to know how to flash the stock recovery back and have it downloaded so you can flash it
You'll need to know how to use the stock recovery (button combos to boot to recovery and enter recovery)

Ah, I had forgotten about having to use the stock recovery to flash. When I last updated, I dirty flashed a TWRP-able image. Might wait for someone to make one for maximum laziness
Edit the updater-script and remove the device check for ghost in the OTA zip that's posted. Then you can flash it in CWM or TWRP as long as /system is stock.

I want to update to the latest firmware on my M7, but one of the USB data pins is broken so I'm not able to use fastboot.
What's the best procedure to update it?
I was thinking of using a Guru Reset rom to flash a stock OS and stock recovery, and then OTA update all the way up to Lollipop, which will update my firmware along the way. The only problem with that is that I'll be stuck on stock forever because I won't be able to flash TWRP through terminal without root.
I know that OTA updates use stock recovery to flash the firmware.zip inside the OTA. Is it possible to modify the OTA.zip to just flash the firmware?

You can root any htc firmware using the root tool that therootninja provides on his website
Once you do that you can flash the stock recovery img or twrp using flashify and use the terminal functions within twrp
I just download OTA update to android 5.0 (OTA_M7_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_Orange...zip)
But I have TWRP recovery.
Can I run OTA zip update with TWRP recovery?
Or anybody can me provide link to download only stock recovery img?

OTA info can be found in the FAQ sticky under Q7
and some more info here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52894276
as for stock recovery, the easiest (since you have the file already) is to extract from within the OTA.zip.... inside the OTA.zip is a "firmware.zip" inside that, you can find the stock recovery. (recovery.img)

Interesting.
Ok I can extract recovery.img and I can flash recovery.
But after that, can I install OTA update? (ROM is still stock, only Exposed module installed, and superSU)
All options on phone is unlocked (bootloader unlocked, s-off, rooted..)
And after that I can flash my old recovery TWP?
And I guess, I must install superSU again?

xposed will not allow the OTA to work, xposed changes stuff in the system partition
yes, you will likely loose root, but that (and twrp) can be easily reflashed

Doesn't work, because I was deleted some stock default apps...
Anayway I restored previous backup and sucesfully update to 5.02
I just recovered my phone with twrp recovery and the root is now gone so my phone is not currently rooted. And there is an OTA update. But I can't install it. It takes me to tarp recovery. So any help. What if I delete the twrp recovery and then install update?

You must have stock recovery to install ota update along with an unmodified /system files, unmodified /data/preload files.
return to stock using a RUU before applying the ota is probably the safer way to go now with lollipop updates if you want to avoid a bootloop.
everytime i tried to update my 8i after unrooting and restoring stock img's its failed. and there's only one option for me to flash stock firmware first then try ota update.
i think there's many users facing it like me.
so i just created a single zip file from all ota zip pkgs. and edited "Update-Script " and "dynamic_partition_op_list" for flashing it with custom recovery.
so i just want to share the script files and instructions. just download the zip file if you need it..thnx
