So I dropped my phone and shattered the screen a few days ago. Just today a section of the screen failed that prevented me from unlocking the device with my pattern. Like an idiot, I kept trying to obtain the pattern unlock, but ultimately failed and now the phone is forcing me to unlock it by signing into the Google account associated with the phone. Unfortunately that only works if you have a Wifi or data connection, which I DON'T have because I had it in Airplane mode when the digitizer died.
So what are my options here? The phone DOES have an unlocked bootloader, as I loaded the Mexican ROM a while back to replace the stock U.S. one. When I boot up to Fastboot mode, it says unlocked status 3, and I can successfully see the device by using the "fastmode devices" mode. However, I cannot access the device via ADB because I didn't have USB debugging turned on.
I'm not all that familiar with Android recovery options and would just like to see if I can get into my device without having to wipe it. Ideally all I want to do is either:
A.) Somehow turn on Wifi so I can unlock the device by signing into google (I can connect a keyboard up to the phone to type in my credentials)
B.) Somehow turn on USB debugging so I can use ADB to then clear the password or turn on wifi, etc
Help!

When you hold down the power button at the lockscreen, isn't there an option to turn on/off airplane mode?

Huh I can't believe I didn't see that option. Unfortunately, I also had my data connection turned off as well, so simply turning off airplane mode is not sufficient.
I tried to load CWM recovery using the fastmode flash recovery cmd, thinking it would give me some sort of ADB access, but it errored out with a "remote failure" error. I'm not even sure that recovery would have let me disable the pattern lock anyways.
Thanks for the help!

That link doesn't help me at all, since I can't unlock the phone to turn on USB debugging, nor would I even be able to unlock it even if I could control it remotely.
But anyways, great news to report! I was able to eventually load the Clockwork mod (CWM) as the recovery partition in fastboot mode. The problem earlier trying to flash CWM was that the phone's battery was too low and it threw a vague "remote failure" error. After charging it up to 100% the flash worked fine. After that, I rebooted into CWM and then flashed the Aroma file manager zip (using method VII on this page: http :// en. miui. com /thread-5684-1-1 . html) , and managed to delete the password and gesture key files, and voila! after restarting my phone I was in! Wooo!
So obviously I was only able to do this because my phone was previously rooted with bootloader unlocked. If that weren't the case (ie, default from the factory), then the only option would have been to wipe the device.

why dont you take an HDMI cable then connect it to a TV or screen then you can see everything
Mine screen was broken some moths ago and I did this to use phone before new screen replacement came. Maybe it can help you.

Yes, I should have immediately stopped trying to pattern-unlock it with the broke screen and waited until I could have hooked up my mouse. I didn't know it would lock me out of the pattern-unlock method after so many tries and force me to unlock using google signin. Also, with the google sign in, I assumed it used cached credentials, but it does not. It requires an active data or wifi connection to verify. Neither of those were turned on, nor could I turn them on. The only option I had was to get in there using a Recovery ROM and remove the password key files. I guess the moral of this story is don't be an idiot and absolutely try to get into your phone right away, when there are plenty of other ways to get in even if hte screen is completely broke (like you said with HDMI cable, keyboard, mouse, etc)
Also, I had a "fun" little issue after that where I tried to edit the build.props file to enable home screen rotation, but that ended up crashing the OS and I had to use fastboot to flash just the system.img that was from the stock Mexican 4.1.2 ROM. So now, I just downloaded an app that allows me to rotate my device, and thus allow me to avoid the dead part of the digitizer when I need to.
Hello!
Was using 7.2.8.0 ROM out of box.
Tried to update to developer 6.5.19 but something went wrong. Now only fastboot/recovery works. Can't do fastboot oem edl - tells me it should be unlocked. Same problem with fastboot flash system - tells me device is locked. Me PC Suite doesnt recognize device at all. Tried on my laptop and PC. Help please.

Are you logged into your Mi Account on the phone? If yes I guess you have to wait for bootloader unlock and then flash rom with fastboot.
I logged in last time my phone worked.
The unlock procedure uses my phone and it cannot start so I will be unable to unlock it since only fastboot and recovery modes are available.
any other suggestions?
apply for the bootloader unlock code with your mi account (use other phone while you fix the xiaomi), wait for the unlock approval sms code, its tooks like 7 to 15 days, then download the software for the unlock bootloader process, loggin with your approved mi account, put your phone in fastboot mode, connect it to the pc press start and thats all (no need to boot in normal mode for unlock), you should have your bootloader unlocked and you will be able to enter in EDL mode and flash again the rom.
P.D. Sorry for my bad english

Have you try to flash using MiFlash?
You can download it from here
My friend also encounter this problem and what he did is:
1. Use a fresh installed notebook with Win 7
2. Use MiFlash to flash the image file.
Image file can be downloaded from here.
It should works with locked bootloader as you are flashing the stock image.
Please give it a try.
Any luck alien2k1?
I'm in the same boat, bricked Mi 5, can access bootloader and TWRP recovery, but can't turn phone on because of bootloop. I want to use Mi PC Suite to flash the fastboot rom. But, when my phone is in Fastboot mode, and I connect it to the computer with the micro USB, it says "Try connect in normal mode first then switch" . But my phone is stuck in a bootloop and I can't "connect in normal mode first." It can't detect my phone in Fastboot mode, and it can't detect my phone in "normal mode" because I can't turn the phone on in normal mode because it gets stuck in a bootloop.
My bootloader is unlocked.
I can't open MiFlash either and I can't turn on USB debugging on the phone because its stuck in a bootloop. What should I do?

If you're on unlocked bootloader and can access fastboot, why don't you use the fastboot packages? There's a script provided by them in the fastboot downloads to flash everything

I am in the same ****in situation, have you solved your issue ?
thanks
Looks like everyone is in the same boat here. I have tried several methods but the Redmi Note4 wont work. Mi PCSUIT wouldnt detect my phone either. Fastboot wont work with the message "Try connect in normal mode and then switch." I am wonder what is the sure and final solution to this problem. The issue is flashing all over the internet but no specific solutions yet.
If you have any working solution, please share. Thanks

thankful, you open my eyes!
Hi everyone, i made an account so i could ask this and i hope i can get advice .
I have a XT1900-4, bootloader unlocked and twrp installed, however . I made a factory reset and it got on bootloop at the logo, i could manage to turn the device off but my volume down key seems to not work so i cannot access fastboot using vdown+power keys, if i turn it on it keeps on restarting, showing unlocked bootloader notificacion and then the logo , to shutdown and repeat.
Idk what to do since my pc seems not to be able to detect the cellphone while is rebooting, so no adb reboot bootloader.
Any ideas?
I had this issue on an older phone I had (an Xperia X Compact). I let it die by just bootlooping until the battery was done, then I was able to get it into fastboot mode. Not sure if someone else will have a better idea.
Hey guys,
just received this phone from a friend and am trying to fix it.
I can boot into system, which crashes about 1sec after displaying the first welcome animation after the boot screen and just reboots then.
I can also boot into Recovery and Fastboot but the bootloader is LOCKED. To unlock it I would have to first add the account in developer settings, but I cant reach that screen at all.
What are my options here? Flashing official roms via MIFlash is not doing anything (4sec flash, green success message but no reboot, and no change) and I cant flash anything else due to the locked BL?!
Ordinary folk can't flash fastboot ROMs with a locked bootloader. It can only be done by EDL flashing, which requires an authorised account.
You need to open the back and use the test pin method to put the phone in EDL mode. The location of the pins are near the battery, a YouTube video will show you the exact location and which pins to bridge.
Despite numerous guides suggesting it's possible for anyone to EDL flash the phone using Qualcomm tools, I've never yet heard of anyone getting it to work. The only way to EDL flash is via an authorised account. You will need to ask on the K20 Pro telegram group for details of someone who has an authorised account. Depending on who you find, you'll need to pay between $20 - $40 US. They will then arrange a time with you when they can remote onto your PC and flash the phone for you, with their account.
I gave the same advice on here a couple of weeks ago and they found someone to do it for $22 fairly quickly.
[Bricked] TWRP doesn't mount flash drive, PC doesn't recognise in fastboot, TWRP doesn't work with MTP
I've wiped my phone, no realising TWRP doesn't actually work with MTP or a flash drive. I've been using the flash drive when it was booted, before the wipe. So the port is fine. Flashing a recovery via fastboot just leads to an infinite loop of...

first let's go, download the fastboot stock version of the ROM then download Miflash, unzip the rom on your main disk twice, now on your cell phone you will press the power off button and at the same time the fastboot button (you must have messed up the file boot so it doesn't turn on) and play Miflash also on C disk, open Miflash on mobile in fastboot mode and select ROM folder don't forget to put the option to just clean and not lock, when the process is finished you wait for the phone to turn on

Thx but phone dont booting to fastboot mode so i cant flash boot.img i tryed now SP Flash too in linux and still same errors becouse phone disconecting too fast. I think technician service will be solution..
Dont use The daanm Sp flash Tool , Its for mediatek devices, USE Miflash, and Its impossible a phone dont boot in fastboot mode, try again, pls hold The button
I have both Mi flash and SP flash tool
Without fastboot you cant do much...
in Miflash it dont do anything even device it dont see on COM3
in SP flash too it react but with errors becouse of disconecting
phone dont boot right becouse both A and B boot images are corrupted.
Does your screen at boot turn red? I've done everything on my cell phone, several things have happened to me and not once did fastboot have a problem, because fastboot is a totally different place to boot, there is only this possibility if you used commands in adb to remove or do something in fastboot that made it useless, it's impossible to happen this in the way you said
yes i did adb commands in fastboot becouse i instaled recovery and this all happend after reboot
no problem doing things in adb, I said in the sense that you deleted fastboot in adb but that didn't happen by the way you said
Turn off your phone.
Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons together and immediately connect the device to the PC. You need to time it perfectly.
It will automatically boot into EDL mode, and LED lights may blink.
Download QPST Flash Tool and install your device's firmware using QFIL(comes included in QPST).
I suggest you to read everything about it online.

I tryed but not succes. It just booting every 5s nowhere. Cant get to EDL mode sorry. And correct turn off phone isnt possible i have to unplug battery flex cable but i also tryed. Only possible state where it dont restarting is when battery is unpluged and i connect phone on cable with pc and pressing volume down+power. But connection to COM3 is only 2s.
Well, in that case you need to short the test points on your motherboard and plug the phone into your PC at the same time.
Watch several videos related to it on YouTube first.
Wait, is your phone Redmi Note 11 or 11s?
I will try the point test. I have Redmin Note 11s.
Ahhhh...you posted it on Note 11 forum.
Can't help you mate. Things are more complicated in mediatek devices.
Still, this thread might help a little. Good luck.
