Ok. If it's the same hardware platform and this phone gets a big userbase, it's not impossible.

But judging by activity on this forum I'd say it's unlikely

its unlikely at the moment only because the phone has only just been released 2 months ago, and its harder to develop since it isn't on a qualcom chipset

This. The P9 is a new device running on a different chipset than most Android devices so it'll surely take some time until we start seeing more custom roms. Have patience, people. If you can't handle the wait, learn to code and actually participate in the development.

I agree, it will take a long time same as any other device not on standardised hardware. learning to code is an essential skill if you really can't wait a few months and if you wanted pure android then get a nexus or one plus device which is stock with a few extra tweaks built in

I don't want to be a jerk and push for roms, but would like to know if AOSP/CM roms are even a possibility for the P9.
I'm thinking about getting a P9 but I see no custom roms for the P8 so I'm a bit concerned that might be the same for the P9...

Don't get this phone for cyanogen then. Get it for the amazing hardware package (internal and external) and price. The emui is actually very good in my opinion, once you get used to it. It has lots of extra features that are actually useful compared to gimmicky Samsung stuff for example.
The only thing that is missing for me and I really hope we can do something about it here is double tap to wake.
That being said, nothing is impossible. All it needs is a little determination by a talented guy

That's just the thing - the P9 does have awesome hardware. It would be sad if it was restricted in terms of software.
So yeah, I really do hope some kind of AOSP will be possible
Coming from an LG, tap to wake would be awesome... I always find myself tapping other people's phones lol
PS. I totally agree about Samsung having gimmicky features

Cyanogenmod

Hey there,
is it possible to create Cyanogenmod for the Mi NOte Pro. You do have kernel sorces. Don´t you?
Would spend a little amount for it of course
I can also put some money towards a bounty to port Cyanogenmod on the device we will also need a root method and a custom recovery ported over. We need to get some devs interested.

I really don't know.. I'm imagining that some tweaks would be needed in the kernel, but that it should be pretty similar overall. I think the camera, touchscreen, and most of the peripheral hardware is the same, and it's just the processor that's different.
We do use different recovery images though.

Do NOT flash the Mi Note ROM to the MI Note Pro. It will not work and render your device suseless.
And you can't deodex the Mi Note Pro ROM by now. So not much hacking is possible now.

Even an unofficial port will be like a gulp of fresh air.
One more crazy thing I've noticed.. MIUI after reboot has only 2-2.2Gb of free RAM. For example, Nexus 6 after reboot has 1.8-2Gb free RAM. Are MIUI developers think, that if device has 4 gigs of RAM they can just waste it? About "Recent Apps" I'm even trying not to talk.. because it totally disgusting. For example, google chrome idea to "merge apps and tabs" incompatible and so on and so on.
P.S. I was also trying to agitate from my side some owners on russian 4pda community, but unfortunately, users looks happy "with official miui" and do not understand what & why I'm talking about.
With corresponding software this phone can make happy owners for years. That's why we need cyanogen.

CyanogenMod for the Huawei P9

Hi everyone,
I am aware that the P9 is still new but the OnePlus 3 was released at nearly the same time and there is already dev teams working on CM roms for the device. I'm also aware that roms for the Kirin chipsets are difficult to create.
I would be surprised if it came to the p9. As you said yourself, a lot harder on the Kirin chipset and probably not that many developers. The oneplus 3 has the 820 chip which has tons of developers which makes it easier.

True.
The biggest fallback of this device is that issue. I hope they release some source codes to make it possible, but for some reason manufacturers often doesn't want to do it. I hope huawei will choose the right side and instead of killing this beauty after 2 years, let it live with the community development.
By the way, applauses for the Sony for the open xperia project.
This kinda works:

Is it worth upgrading from Galaxy S6 to OP3T?

the s6 camera is better but the display I do not think will be a problem at all.
Well, yeah but you're upgrading much more than you're downgrading. Living stuck with a software you don't like its the worst that can happen tp you in smarphones world, the software its the only spec of your phone you're on direct contact with so it's pretty important

Ofcourse!
I have the very same dilemma. Another concern is the warranty and support in case there are problems with the phone.
I'm currently unhappy with my S6 edge because of touchwiz and the battery for example. About 2 month ago my display broke and the fix would cost 260€ so I will buy a Oneplus 3t.
Gesendet von meinem SM-G925F mit Tapatalk
Imo it's an upgrade. One plus is very similar to Nexus and for that even if the specs were not quite up to par to a previous device with an overlay it's still a win. I'm grabbing a 3T in a month or so. When I looked at the Pixel and Pixel XL and the op3t and op3 I made my mind up immediately. Going to keep my eyes on pixel also and see what happens there but just not willing to spend 800-900 USD on a phone at this point in my life. ;p Why when we can grab a Op3T for so much less and it's very similar in specs. External sdcards are over rated imo and for Samsung type phones. I've been a Nexus user since the Galaxy Nexus and well actually the G1 and never seen a use for them after ditching Samsung back on the S4. Internal is fine imo and I'm not into all the little marketing features like Sammy has. I'll take a clean phone with little to no extra crap onboard with a good camera and battery and screen any day and that's what I see we have here with the One plus 3t. I've studied the Op3 forums and battery is unreal and camera is very good. Coming from my Nexus 5x I can't wait!!!!! I look forward to seeing all of you on the forums.

It burns battery and it's ugly imo. The are two kinds of people, one who likes tw and one who doesn't. Neither are wrong just different taste is all. I prefer Nexus phones or phones like them.. (one plus..) Development is better for Nexus and One plus and there's more of it and it's more stable than on a Samsung device. I know that from owning them all and seeing for myself. You just can't beat how AOSP runs on a device like One+ and how many devs work on them constantly. It's just personal preference is all.

Can't say that in words.
If you look at that crap which is installed on stock roms you get headache and that brains the battery like crazy and slows the phone down.
And if is even with a theme ugly
You even need to sort apps in stock launcher by alphabet manually with a button ?
If you try it for one year you get sick of it trust me. Even with theme and Nova launcher.
Samsung itself recommend to restart your phone every day to get the best performance and that in 2016 ?

Sorry IF its rude but Dont you think its a dumb question? the device is barely 6 months old and as far as we know oneplus is a company which supports its devices till quite a long time and every device is under Upgrade for atleast 2 years from launch oneplus 3 still has alot of love to take Just because a newer version is launched doesnt mean the support it dropped or most of the OEM would like just leave devices without any updates
None taken...Maybe I wasn't clear.. talking about unofficial devlopment.. Maybe dev of custom Roms lose intrest now that new version is available so soon... One good news though price drop in india available for about 280$ now was thinking of buying
Ps. Sorry for another "dumb" question
Unofficial developer support is definitely not going anywhere. All popular devices get lots of love from developers for years to come. And OP3 is the definition of "popular" ☺️

Any Thoughts On The Direction Of Future ROMS/DEvelopment, etc...?

Hello All!
Well like everyone, I want a nice phone, but of course being the Geek that I am, I love to hack and tinker on phones.
I've been really researching and reading around online, still in search of that Modders Dream phone, and will all the choices out there, it's just not easy figuring out, at least I'm still looking. Problem is, all the latest cool phones that have recently come out in 2018, like anything, development will take time.
So I'm trying to figure out which phone(s) might be a good choice to go with. As some may of read, OnePlus donated some 6 phones for free to XDA developers, that certainly made that phone look promising for the future, but the cost of the 6 is a little over my budget.
So, with all this said, I currently have a Mi A1, and the development seems like it's been really good on that phone, which makes me think that Xiaomi phones seem to be popular with development, at least I hope the Mi 8 will have just as much development going on as the Mi A1, or better.
What does the future hold for this phone, any thoughts on this?
Hmm
Thanks

I'm patient, that's not the problem, I guess it's to early to tell how the development will be. I assumed if the Mi A1 was as good as it is, then this should be better, but that's a cheaper phone, easier for people to get, therefore more development, more expensive phone, less people can afford, less development...
hmm

Honestly, I think the best "tinker" phone right now is the Oneplus 5t. Solid hardware and a very big selection of roms and mods. Xiaomi phones tends to be good also, but you need to wait a year or two before it really picks up.

there was an instant of Mi8SE kernel source was released for 2 months+, but there wasn't any development for custom ROM so far.
Of coz it might really means the establishment for this phone wasn't wide enough and the population wasn't there, due to the price. These contributed to late or lack of ROM development.
It also could due to there are many new development in the android world such as Android Treble and Android Pie which is more fun and trendy for the moment.
So, the wait will really had to be a bit longer then usual.
But what is the usual?
That will be the primary question now.

Yes. I'm aware we are talking about Mi 8 which running on SD 845.
What I referencing is Mi8SE had not had any development even they had the kernel source released 2 months before.
However, I wish I'm wrong on this and had custom ROM development as soon as the kernel source released.
Time will tell...

I wanted one essential phone for a long time, but I need dual sim and don't really want to bother with bluetooth adapters so skipped that one. Have a OP6 and MI8 now. Like the MI8 more but a bit bummed I can't get custom recovery to work flashed so have to fastboot the recovery each time there is an update.
We have to wait for the kernel source from the Mi8 to get the best experience out of custom roms.
We got treble, but not everything is working well with Treble roms.
Hope Xiaomi will release the source shortly
