[Q] Random freeze rebooting Xiaomi Mi5 problem! - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

I bought new Mi5 and I still didn't put Sim card inside wanted to configure and see what phone can but when I entered configuration menu after 1st power up I manage to choose language and few things more and phone rebooted, then I manage to almost finish configuration then freeze and reboot again, after few tries I finished configuration but freeze (usually only last few seconds) and reboot happen again. Then phone offered me update software which I manage to reach from 3rd time and successfully update only with Mi PC Suite, not from phone update app. Interesting, all flashing proces with Mi PC Suite always is going as should be, without reboots etc... Crap happen only in OS. Now I got latest China stable (I bought phone in China) which has same problem with rebooting. Then I wiped all I can, factory reset etc...nothing helps.
-Still didn't unlock phone in case I need to return it.
-Didn't try global Rom because I can't flash it
I was reading forums and found a lot people have same problem but didn't find what they done on the end to make phone work.
If anyone have some solution, let me know. Returning phone from EU to China is not 1 day Or does someone know if someone in EU can service this if needed?
thanks in advance

huh,
I solved (for now) problem with installing this, developer version of miui 8 from here
http://xiaomiadvices.com/download-miui-8-6616-china-developer-rom-recoveryfastboot/
Downloaded it and installed with English version of MI PC Suite. Developer rom is Chinese (as my default software version in phone) over latest Chinese 7.3.10 miui
With original software phone was restarting, freezing randomly every 30 seconds or 1 minute of usage.
Now need to wait to unlock phone so I can use Global version of rom to get play store etc...

Failed OTA update - Factory reset required on every reboot

My sister who has the Mi A2, like I do, got an error after downloading and wanting to install the latest OTA.
After the phone restarts to install the update, she gets stuck in the recovery where she can choose between retrying the update (Which doesn't work and brings her back to the same error screen, or factory resetting the phone. When she factory resets her phone, she can boot back into android, but whenever she restarts her phone, she gets the error message and needs to do a factory reset to continue using her phone.
I previously had a Mi A1, and today, the guy that I have sold it to called me because he has the exact same problem.
I find it really strange and would like to hear if anyone else experienced similar issues.
Update:
Seems this has something to do with a bug in the latest OTA on devices that have the language set to Dutch. Taking the SIM-card out, restarting the device (It doesn't give the error anymore), changing the language to anything else but Dutch and inserting the SIM-card again fixes the issue. It can also be fixed by changing the SIM to an older device that can remove the SIM-pin. In this case the user can still use the Dutch language. I guess residents from Belgium and The Netherlands will have to wait until Xiaomi patches the OTA until they can use the Dutch language again.
My wife also had the same issue.. shame

How to return to stock?

Hello guys! After experiencing all custom ROMS including Xiaomi.EU, figured out that every single one has some small inconvenience for me and planning to return to stock, eventually using only Magisk and potentially a custom Kernel.
Managed to install every single version of Global Developer ROM, everything works well except the FaceUnlock that was gone, (the phone remained stucked in China region) and I am not able to access the fingerprint section, after few tries it brings me an error message.
Tried also using MIFlash , but the Fastboot ROM writting took 3 sec to write and stopped as successfully, then nothing but bootlooping.
Currently is the phone is functional, but as mentioned before not able to setup new fingerprints (using cache and data from old recovery and those work) neither Face Unlock.
Tried to Google any kind of solution, but unfortunately nothing worked.
Any suggestion is appreciated.
I see that nobody is interested to support, so I continuously researched and figured out that doing a full wipe and following these steps from this post will solve my problem:

From I don't know which reason I was blocked on China region without the possibility to changing it.

MI 9 Lite keeps asking me to upgrade but it stops at 1%.

About a month ago via OTA I updated my MI 9 Lite to firmware 11.3.4.0(PFCEUXM).
I honestly don't remember what version I had before the upgrade.
The phone started to give me problems: random reboots and applications crashing.
A couple of weeks ago I received the update message for version V11.0.1.0.QFCEUXM. I was hoping that the malfunctions could be fixed and I proceed with the update.
The result is that the update never finishes.
The phone reboots, the update starts, and about 1%, it reboots giving an error.
A popup tells me that "Couldn't update MIUI. Download ROM and try updating again". Every time.
I also tried to download the rom fromofficial site and install it from the top right menu, and select "choose update package". NOTHING!
I also tried to reinstall the same update from "about phone" - "System update" - "Download latest package". NOTHING!
I have already reset the phone to the factory settings but I was not successful with the update, however crashes and reboots remain.
I can't even unlock the phone. The "find my device" app crashes after a few days. I can't do MI Unlock and I have to re-enter the MI account every time. I can never do 7 days without crashing the app so the MI unlock never works.
Please, help me!
I am dealing with this exact same issue.. I am also on 11.3.4.0.PFCEUXM and I have repeated crashes in nearly every app I run, including SMS, when I manage to download the update it fails at 1%
I purchased this phone brand new 3 weeks ago

I had to take him to the service center. After 3 weeks the motherboard (and therefore the IMEI) was changed. It is the only solution.

Introduction of myself

i am a business man running productions company, usually i am using Huawei terminals and i like them very much, but after the boycott of Huawei with big regrets, i was looking for a replacement good phone because i run part of my business on it, finally i wad following publicities and you-tubers about phone and technology, and i have chosen the Mi 11 ultra, i bought it from China as at that moment it was not exposed for sell in Europe, and first surpise when i have received the phone, it was all in Chineze, by foolwing your forum i have succeeded to unlock the bootloader and i have flashed the Chines version to a Global one 12.5.5.0, and i was happy with the new phone and getting used to it after the Huawei phone, then few days ago the phone noticed me that there is a new update (version Miui 12.5.7.0), i have downloaded the new version and when trying to apply the update to the phone ,after that the phone is freezing the last step when must be rebooted to recovery mode and then to select the update pack, till now i am in this step!
that all!
Welcome to XDA
Try posting on the specific forum for that phone.
When I have an Android that's running fast, stable and is fulfilling its mission I don't update.
Updates will wreck an Android more times than not while malware seldom does.
the problem initially was in the backup, so after flashing the Chinese version to global version, then the backup option was not working, so when the message came that there is a new update i thought maybe the backup problem has been solved!

GOOD DAY NEED HELP PLEASE

Good Day and Peace and Blessings to everyone here.
My problem is that my daughter's phone (Redmi Note 9) has been giving trouble with recognising the dual sim and memory card tray, this happened some time after purchase and it's first update to MIUI 12. Normally this would happen when the phone was restarted, the tray would have to be popped out and re-inserted and then the tray would become functional.
Recently when it updated to MIUI Version 13.0.2.0 Global Stable (SJOMIXM) it has completely stopped recognising the Sim and memory card Tray, you could see it appear and disappear as if trying to work before there's n error message about the .com.phone something not functioning and then it would shutdown and restart in the recovery mode.
Nothing seems to fix this issue so I'm stuck with a phone that I cannot use, I would like to know if there's a way to troubleshoot this issue or if there's a way to install another rom for this phone to function.
I'm familiar with troubleshooting phones but this one has been challenging me for some time now. I've read that there has been an issue with the sims not being recognised and that this new update was supposed to fix it, unfortunately it hasn't.
So far the best I can tell or think is that some of the firmware was corrupted, so I'm wondering if there's a way to completely wipe the phone and reinstall all software to somehow get rid of the problem.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Make sure the bootloader is unlocked and USB debugging enabled. Download the Mi Flash tool and an older MIUI from Xiaomi's website or from https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/archive/miui/merlin/. I'm not an expert in firmware and ROMs. I just flashed my RN9 with a well-maintained ROM and just never looked back at MIUI. Also, try testing out the earpiece and the proximity sensor if the screen turns off once you cover the top. It could be that the IMEI numbers got lost. Try opening the dialer and enter *#06#, you should see a popup showing your S/N and IMEI numbers.
