I have managed to root mine but i had to unlock the bootloader, install twrp and flash SuperSU 2.65
To unlock the bootloader you have two options
You can request the bootloader from Huawei or pay 4 euro and use the DC-Unlocker app.
There is a good guide over here

You have to unlock bootloader first and flash TWRP recovery. It's pretty much the same across all HUAWEI devices.
Thanks for the suggestions... However I am stuck at the first step getting the unlock code... The english version of the online unlock mask does not work at all, and in the chinese one I get an error... Huawei Support doesn't seam to know why it is not working. They just started selling those in Germany a couple Days ago... maybe thats why it is not working yet... (I managed to unlock the bootloader for an Honor 4C yesterday)

Maybe their internal system is not up yet for unlocking latest devices. Just wait for a few more day, let them fix problems first.

No I haven't tried... Since I completed the setup of my phone by now, there is no real rush to root it anymore (I was hoping I need to do it only once - it is not that much work, so I am pretty lazy I guess...)... Also once my phone turned of with 35% Battery remaining, therefore I would like to monitor this situation before I void my warranty...
Hi,
if you want to root your honor 5c, you can try this : http://www.osroots.com/huawei-honor-5c-how-to-root-huawei-honor-5c-osroots/
Use SuperSu 2.65, not the beta
Just to let you know, I wasn't able to root my Honor 5C with SuperSU 2.74 Beta, but 2.65 stable did the thing right.
I've just followed Modaco's thread, and used Chrome Traduction feature to know what was displayed in chinese to unlock the bootloader. Installing TWRP was then easy.
Edit - found it here, flashed it, n to access just press volume up+vol down+power, then installed supersu 2.65 and thats all
I've successfully unlocked my bootloader, but now i need to install twrp and supersu, where can i find the proper twrp recovery image for my NEM-L22
I was able to flash my NEM-L51 :
Got the unlock code following the goo.gl link
Unlocked the bootloader following the modaco procedure, the official one (don't forget to enable "OEM unlock" in developer options like I did)
Rooted using SuperSU 2.65 (didn't seem to work with the latest stable, 2.76, so I flashed it again with 2.65 and it worked then but Root Verifier tells me I have 2.76…)
I had to pay for dc unlocker, Huawei pages are crap. Then it was easy.
Cant finish the android start wizzard because of google
Hi at all,
i have a big problem at the moment. i rooted the honor 5 c of my girlfriend and it was all okay. The smartphone was rootet, SU installed and TWRP on it. After a factory reset because google playstore had problems to connect to server my problem began. After a reboot i am stuck in the installation assistant of android. I can choose my country, and my wlan, but when i want to go further google has to connect to servers and cant do it. So i can not enter the device. I can also read on my smartphone when it is in fastboot mode PHONE unlock and FRP lock. Could this be my problem? Or could it be the hosts file who blocks google to connect to servers?
Situation after first factory reset:
-unlocked bootloader
-rootet
-cant enter the phone because google cannot connect to server
Situation after secound factory reset:
-bootloader unlocked
-Phone unlocked
-FRP lock
Can you please help me? And sorry for my bad english. I hope you can understand everything and i dont forget something.
Did you try to add google account not immediately after factory reset when setting the phone, but skip it and add later?

I have no option to skip the google verification. Right after i allow or do not allow the enhanced internet experience Wi-Fi+ service and click one of the button, the next tab appears and says Couldn't sign in: There was a problem communicating with Google servers...... Try again later
Now i have the option to go next or go back. When i click next it restart at the language selection.
I searched the internet for this problem, but it seems i am the only one with such a issue.
I wanted to add some screenshots but i am not allowed to add links until i did 10 posts
Okay i have solved my problem with a stock firmware i found deep in space Thanks
if someone need the stock rom or custom rom for honor 5c PM me and i can send your the link to the forum. I am not allowed to post it here :crying:

Since there are some request from other fellow users, i decide to create a dedicated guide thread to show the process of UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER & ROOTING the Huawei Mate 10 (FOR MATE 10 LITE, CHECK BOTTOM OF THE POST)
Warning : Unlocking bootloader and rooting your phone come with a risk of bricked devices, bootlooping, loss of data, etc. I am not responsible for any harm that can happen during the process , ALWAYS MAKE BACKUP FIRST - use Huawei Backup App to backup your data to MicroSD, or get HiSuite ready to reflash your phone in case of brick situation happen
Pre-requisites :
1. "Enable OEM unlock" & "USB Debugging" option turned on from developer options
2. ADB & Fastboot installed on your WINDOWS 7 (YES, Win 10 has problem with Mate 10 Fastboot driver. except you know how to properly install the driver manually i would suggest you do this on Windows 7) - if you havent, search "Minimal ADB & fastboot" on XDA.
UPDATE : Windows 10 driver fix can be found HERE
3. Download FunkyHuawei Tool from : HERE - ALL CREDIT GOES TO FUNKYHUAWEI for PROVIDING THE TOOL
4. Valid Huawei Account logged in on your Mate 10
UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER
1. Go to : emui.huawei.com/en/plugin/unlock/index
2. Log in using your Huawei Account, make one if you dont have it yet
3. "Agree" to Huawei unlocking agreement presented
4. Input all neccessary values related to your device (the one you want to unlock) - IMEI, Model Number etc
5. Click "Commit"
6. You will get a pop up dialog, containing your unlock KEY. Save this key or screenshot the screen, you gonna need it to unlock your phone
7. Now, plug your phone to your PC. Assumed that you got USB debugging enabled, pop up will appear on your phone screen, asking whether you want to allow the PC to access your phone or not. Authorize the request
8. Fire up ADB on your CMD/Terminal. and type
Code:
adb devices
9. Your devices should listed on your adb window, if it isn't, either you didnt install the adb driver properly, or your usb port has problem
10. Now type
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
to reboot your phone to fastboot mode
11. Once the phone is booted up to the fastboot mode screen, type this in your CMD windows :
Code:
fastboot oem unlock [your UNLOCK KEY here]
- without the brackets
12. Confirmation dialog should appear on your phone screen, give you a warning about unlocking bootloader, just go with proceeding the process (YOU WILL LOSS YOUR USER DATA]
13. Once the unlocking process is finished, your phone will boot up to initial set up stage
14. Set up everything up until you can re-enable USB Debugging option in Developer Options (you can skip all account stuff, security and elses, you gonna do it again anyay after ROOTING)
15. Plug back your phone, and from your CMD Windows, retype this code :
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
16. Your phone will rebooted to FASTBOOT MODE again - now close your CMD Windows
ROOTING
1. Now launch "FHMate10Tool.exe" which you have downloaded from the prerequisites step
2. 5 Options will be presented, and the 1st is "Root your Mate 10"
3. Type "1" and hit ENTER
4. few more dialog and instructions will be given, and Rooting process will started
5. Once the process finished, your phone will booted back to initial set up screen with all USERDATA ERASED, but with SuperSU INSTALLED
CONGRATULATION, YOU HAVE ROOTED YOUR MATE 10
Addendum :
FOR MATE 10 LITE ONLY
Use same step to unlock bootloader.
Download TWRP from HERE and SuperSU from attached.
Place SuperSU to MicroSD and place TWRP img file to your directory in PC where fastboot and adb installed
Reboot to fastboot mode,
Execute this command :
Code:
fastboot boot twrp-mate10-lite.img
Your device will boot into temporary TWRP,
Go to Terminal in TWRP and type this :
Code:
echo "systemless = true" /data/.supersu
(Tick the bottom right corner)
go back to TWRP main menu and choose "Install"
Choose external storage and choose the Supersu.zip file and flash it,
Reboot System
Your device should be rooted.
Note : this method wont install TWRP to your device. You can install it using fastboot flash recovery twrp-mate10-lite.img command, but since the TWRP is still in beta stage, i do not recommend it.

Basically the idea is, I might update it if a bug is found/fixed, so it should point to the latest version to avoid issues. If we have a direct link, that makes it difficult. Thanks

@otonieru , i have mate 10 standard,
- If i rooted the phone would i still receive OTA ? and if i received and installed them, would that brick my phone or just remove the root?
and if my phone ended up being bricked, is it easy to just flash back the rom of huawei using Hisuite ?
- is it easy to unroot the phone back to original, if i needed to use back the warranty? or maybe just flash the huawei rom.
- can the root be hidden ? like magisk ?
Thank you very much for this thread, it is a must ! <3
Two questions (sorry, I'm new to Huawei world...):
1. UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER does not void my warranty, right?
2. Will I loose root when install OTA update?

1. Yes, it voids it in most cases, but might depend on your local Huawei region.
2. Yes, you lose root.

If you root you will apparently still receive OTA. Receiving an OTA will unroot your phone, but should not brick it.
You can't unroot the phone back to original. Even if you relock the bootloader, it will show relocked, not locked. There are tools which you'd need to pay for which can help in that case.
The root cannot be hidden.
Anyone who roots, I urge you, be VERY VERY careful. Huawei phones are very finnicky, brick easily (the Mate 10 even more easily than previous versions), and there is no free way to restore them if they do brick. Even with paid methods,
it's not easy.

The procedure is safe, but it's what you do with the root powers that could cause a brick. If you touch the wrong file on the phone, caput. In the worst case, the phone won't turn on, won't be recognized with USB, and can't be unbricked.
Obviously you're protected from doing that when you don't have root.
I've already lost two test devices to the symptoms described above.
So my opinion is, as the developer of the tool, root only if it's absolutely essential to you. And if you do root, only use the root privilege for things you absolutely must do, or things that have been tested on the phone and proven to be safe. Hopefully you won't brick it, but I need to put out this warning so I'm not blamed if someone does.

None as i may concern. Android pay wont work though, and some banking app as well. Since those app wont allow rooted phone.
But if you didnt use such an app. Or like me, have another phone for that, then its perfectly fine.
For me, there's more benefit / advantage come from rooting
Example :
1. Effective adblocking (not VPN solution)
2. Removing unneccessary stuff and app
3. Youtube without ads + background play
4. Better battery life (with appops, greenify, and my own GMSDoze)
5. Enabling VoLTE option
6. Audio MOD (gain, and better dual speaker)
7. etc

I read a few people here having issues with their devices eg here, Lg devices has a similar issue with camera and missing appps, Samsung devices would lose the IR blaster after bootloader unlock.

If you have even a slightest idea of what you are doing, you won't be able to brick your phone.
You just need to unlock bootloader(which is most difficult part because you need to get key from huawei) There are tutorials about that.
Then flash TWRP in unlocked bootloader.
Also I think you must have system-less root or phone will boot loop.
Look for p8lite mega thread for more info. If you are rooting with superSU you need to flash 1.zip(found in thread) before flashing latest SuperSU to make it install in system-less mode.
Here is what ive learned
The only information i can find other than specs is by using the chinese search engine Baidu. I have had to use Google translate to read anything. Have you gone to the Chinese zte website? Thats where i have found some information. I even called Zte and they had never heard of the phone. Good luck and please share if you find anything.

Maybe it was necessary to root that way in the older versions but now I just flash SuperSU.zip from here and it works with no problem at all
http://www.supersu.com/download
Anyway backup first just in case something happened
So I just got the new version update ( I think it's 8.0 ). I download it through the "System Update" and then it requires me to restart to install the update. It then get to the installation but when it gets to 1% I get an error: "Software Install Failed". I then boot my phone back and it requires me to download the whole update again ( 0.95 GB ) every damn time. I already tried updating 3 times but it still fails at 1%.
Are you rooted or did you modified something else?
If yes, remove the root completely with the tutorials of your root method (the root makers always releasing a tutorial how to remove) and relock your bootloader again (WARNING: FACTORY RESET!!!).
After this, you should be able to install the update.

You can try it with their DNS services, but if the firmware Huawei is providing you won't install, it can also be a problem with your phone.
And there's no 100% safety that you won't lose all your data.
If you send the phone to Huawei you'll also lose everything.

Hi! I picked up my Canadian P20 Pro last week and couldn't be happier. It's been many years since I've owned a rootable device though and a lot has changed! I've done my best to read through all the guides for rooting the P20 Pro and it's only lead to further confusion as there seem to be many recent advancements. There seem to be a lot of different versions of this phone too. So I have some questions I'm hoping someone can answer easily! Let's assume my bootloader is already unlocked....
1) there's a really great guide on rooting the P20 Pro using All In One tool. But that requires flashing TWRP to achieve root using Magisk. I do not require TWRP as I only want root and do not wish to flash any roms.
a) is there a way to root with Magisk and NOT flash TWRP? I can't seem to find a straight answer on this...
b) failing that, can TWRP safely be removed and keep root afterward?
2) after unlocking the bootloader I was welcomed by a terrifyingly orange warning about my now 'unsafe' phone. I've read mixed things on hiding this. Is there currently a way to hide it?
3) how does the process work for OTA updates on an unlocked bootloader assuming there is no TWRP? I've read differing opinions on the necessity of flashing a no_check.img to the ramdisk and have no understanding of the new security checks on these phones. Can I run risk of bricking my phone through an automated update?
Ultimately I'm scared of forgetting TWRP is on my phone and accepting an update that'll brick it. Any information is welcome as are similar questions!
I am also curious if there is a good root process for this phone. Find anything yet?

I have a Canadian CLT-L04 that i rebranded and rooted to CLT-L29 with the guide on here.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...de-how-to-root-debrand-remove-retail-t3788326
if you want better firmware compared to version 109 thats still on clt-l04 you can follow this guide, it worked well for me. (don't wait canadian OTA it'll take too long)
1) quite sure that TWRP is the easiest and safest way to root. Currently unaware of a better way to root the phone.
b) if you remove TWRP by flashing a stock recovery_ramdisk, root is kept. If you do an OTA though you might lose root.
2) thats here to stay i believe. Cannot find a way to hide it currently.
3)In this guide under the "install an OTA Stock Update: PC Method" you will find all the information you need.
cheers
I finally found the info I needed in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...ide-getting-started-unlock-twrp-root-t3806180
Overall it was a very simple process and took less than an hour including reading. Once you've got your bootloader unlock code the all in one tool handles it from there. Unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP, reboot into TWRP, flash Magisk and you're done. You can flash the no_check file over TWRP if you want to be ready for updates but I decided to leave TWRP on for now. Loving having root on this phone so far!
On a different note, has anyone discovered any ROMs for this phone yet that can handle the notch? I almost tried Lineage until I found out there is no notch support. I've grown strangely fond of the thing for some reason lol

If you do a full backup of the L04 in TWRP before rebranding you should be able to go back to it easily at any time, just remember to save it somewhere safe other than the phone itself. If you've already flashed and are looking to go back you may find someone willing to share a stock backup if you ask around. But always best to do your own backup first, then you can go back whenever you like!

Anyone unlocked bootloader and rooted recently for the L04 model with 120(C792) Sept-2018 update?
Im scared to update before unlocking and rooting as the update might do something to fastboot etc. (this has happened to LG)
If not, then Ill update but if so, Ill just not update and unlock it as it is.

It's really easy to update once you've unlocked, I would suggest unlocking first if you have concerns. I have an L04 as well and just updated to 120 with no problems.

No problem, glad it worked for you. I've soft bricked and recovered my phone a few times now experimenting so if you run into any problems I'm happy to help! Lots to learn with the P20.
I have a CLT-L04 8.1.0.136 C69 with October security patch from Mexico I want to rebrand it to CLT- L29 to get wifi calling and get rid of all the bloatware. Could I use this tutorial from dladz's tutorial:

One of the notes mentions the following: I) ]NOTE*** If you are on a later firmware than 120, please do not attempt this guide!!
I have only rooted one phone before in my life so I am no expert. I do no want to mess up my phone becuse it is the only one that I have. Also If I unlock the boot loader and rebrand can i get OTAs and the upcoming Pie release? Thanks for the help!
LineageOS 15.1 on L04
I installed LineageOS 15.1 on my L04 with out any issue. Some things to consider. USB-C will only charge the device, Titanium Backup will install but doesn't get root access and you'll miss the camera application.

Did you install it with a locked bootloader ? I really dont feel like paying for an unlock code. Would like to try Lineage though.

I do have an unlocked bootloader. Truth is i'm addicted to Rom's lol. That in mind I have tried every Rom, kernel, flash-able zip within this Forum and I can't brick this thing. L04 Canadian. Lineage is the best Rom for our device.
Roms that work:
- Lineage - Hauwei camera can be installed and works, dark mode works well.
------- Doesn't work: USB-C audio, NFC, RAW Option in the camera, Second ear piece as speaker, main speaker works well.
- First Ever Android 9 - Being the first build it works well. (Note: When I installed this rom I never installed the RemoveEncryption-P20Pro.zip) Seemed to work just fine without it. I did run it just because I wanted to see if it would brick my phone. It didn't.
-------Doesn't work: Dark mode, NFC, RAW Option in camera, Second ear piece as speaker, main speaker works well, seems to kill TWRP. eRecovery needed to get TWRP to function.
- AOSP 9 - Berkeley-Flex - Do Not Use...not ready.

Does anyone else have issue setting up Google Pay on the K20 Pro?
Get an error 'Couldn't finish setup to pay in shops. This phone can't be used to pay in shops.this may be because it is rooted or altered in some other way'.
Anyone know a fix for this.

Do not relock your bootloader!! I did this and got my phone BRICKED! Looks like you got a Chinese version with Global ROM like me. Try to use Magisk .. I am still trying to figure out how to unbrick my device. Used it for 2 days .. and for this very reason got it messed up.

Did exactly the same thing, probably with the same Global ROM as well. Thoroughly regretting doing a re-lock now. I have it in Xiaomi Recovery right now so I should be able to use adb or fastboot. Is there a working ROM that I can attempt to flash to get it to boot again?

I was not able to flash anything on there via recovery. I read somewhere that it should be possible via Mi Flash Pro if you flash it with a ROM that is as new as the one on there. But have not been able to figure that one out. Now exploring deep flash... deep sadness that is! One shop said it could fix it for 49 USD .. so far for saving by ordering via AliExpress!
Let me know if you get anywhere with this. Would be happy to try anything

Thanks for the advice :good:
Hi all,
I have the same problem. My phone's bootloader was open since the first time, and I cannot use the Google pay. I tried to install a different rom, I had the global rom and I changed it to the EU rom (now is V10. 3.15.0) but still does not work. So strange because the Magisk says everything is fine, but I can't download the Netflix app from the play and can't use Google pay.
I really waiting for some kind of help...
@ionflux posted a guide how to make G-pay work.
Just follow last paragraph in this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79859363&postcount=1
Worked for me on xiaomi.eu.
Thanks mate but still doesn't work for me...
This thread is with solved Google Pay
I've successfully installed and activated it!

Did you flash + relock on an existing rom or on an empty device?
