Screen Protector thread - Sony Xperia X Performance Accessories

Since there is no thread opened for discussion on screen protector. So I will start this off.
Feel free to add your own findings or discussions in this thread whether it's a glass screen protector, PET screen protector or those wet flexible type.
Found a few glass screen protector on the market, most being non full coverage due to the 2.5D curved edge on the xperia X performance. I don't have X performance ATM, but should have it on the 29th, so I can't actually test them out yet, but these protector should work for both the X and X performance.
Got this locally from china at a cost about USD 0.30 each, doesn't cover the full glass area due to the curved edges, but being cheap to buy, there is no reason not to try them out.

Purchased these 3 days ago, and had them delivered today, these being full coverage and at excellent quality, the cost is also very expensive, this one shown in the photo's that I purchased being the cheapest of the 4 types on offer, the full screen protector underneath has adhesive, color available is metalic glittered/gloss finished.
Normal clear version PET edge with 0.21mm thick glass available to match all 4 color variation.
Super hard clear version PET edge with 0.21mm thick glass available in gray and white only.
Private version PET edge with 0.21mm thick glass available in gray and white only.
Mirror/non reflective version (not 100% sure) PET edge with 0.21mm thick glass available in gray and white only
price starts from approximate USD 27.50- USD 38 for different versions.
Seen these available in china, 100% glass, just like the ones for samsung S7 or the LG G5, only has double side adhesive on the edge, the active part has no adhesive, cost approximate USD 5- USD 15, the prices will slowly drop with time.
Another one is PET and Glass, all clear, from china, cost approximate USD 10
One's from china can be purchased from www.taobao.cn or www.aliexpress.com
The other one can be purchased from www.amazon.co.jp or www.yahoo.co.jp
No direct link will be given, so you have to search those sites for them, and yes you can purchase them, but not directly if you don't live in those countries, but there are ways to purchase them and will incure additional cost.

Just gimme a link!

I bought a black one too, a few days ago when there was no comment on amazon.co.jp.
*The full screen cover (with pet) one
When i look at it again today, it has only 1 star.
The comments are focused on it blocks the screen edge, oh well, we shall see orz.
From what i tried, most tempered glass are doomed, at least the ones i bought aren't even fitting the curve. (not to mention the size is totally off as well)
I am thinking to use paste now, dealing with glass is a damn...
or get a scr56?

The quality looks good, and unlike the Chinese one, adhesive is covers 95% of the back including the glass screen, just the edge about 1.5mm of the edge has no adhesive.
Probably the best one you can get at present with full coverage.

Updated the first post with the protector on my phone, it's not stuck down yet, as I still have 14 return period.

I like to point out for those who intend to a glass screen protector on the X or XP, it will affect the touch screen, I know this as I experienced this personally.
I have enabled the double tap wake and sleep, although double tap isn't affected, double tap to wake does not work well with a glass protector.

I'd like to point out XXP is prone to be scratched.
My XXP has one line of scratch after 15 days usage.
Does anyone know what is the screen glass brand this time?
Seems far fragile than Corning Gorilla glass.

I finally put the screen protector on, it fits on well and looks good, but those who has the intention to get one, do note you will still get bubbles along the sides, although it does has the bubbles, I don't regret having it, the bubbles don't show up well.

Yes I totally agree with you, I've always used the double tap to wake feature and after applying my tempered glass protector it sometimes takes around 4-6 taps lol, but at times it can pick up 2 taps. I received my replacement Terrapin Hardcase the other day and it's a great fitting case I think, aswell as the gel one.

If you use a glass screen protector at 0.21mm, it should be alright, the one i'm using is 0.21mm and work alright.
I think if you use glove mode it works much better, but I also think it uses more power and battery.

Could you please upload a picture with screen on?
I would like to see how much does the Deff one covered. (left/right edge of the screen)
After 1 week ,my protector arrives, and i totally forget its G-Color. (the only(?) one with full frame on amazon.com)
upside is,
The sides are really thin, so it doesn't cover the screen part.
And it fits pretty well for the whole (front) surface.
downside is,
Made in china, so the quality of the glass is kinda low.
It does get fingerprint extremely easy, i never had any other protector/glass one can do this.
Also, i doubt its "hardness", after 3 days of use, there are some cracks from the microphone slot already.
There is another one called RASTA BANANA/ラスタバナナ, currently it has highest comment and price in amazon jp.
rbdirect.jp/rb <-offical shop site, according to this site, scr56 is made by them.
I couldn't find any retailer sells this and ships to US, so either get Deff one or wait for SCR56 for me orz.

The color part of the protector covers about 0.5mm past the screen, and the adhesive covers the whole of the protector, the G color is only on the top/bottom and bezel, just like the g color the deff is also made in china, but with japanese material, for your information, no glass protector supports the hardness of 9H this is BS, the whole screen protector is really thin.
I can say this is probably the only screen protector i've used that reduces not finger print, altough they all do attrach fingerprint, but it's very minimum compare to others.
I also will have a RASTA BANANA/ラスタバナナ soon, it's even much more expensive, I have a friend to buy this from one of those larger chain stores in japan during their visit on the 19th of July, just use a agent if you want to buy them, they can send worldwide.
I will have a SBC 30 soon, us that preordered the XP before the 16th June, all get extra 12 months warranty, Sony Mobile umbrella (very good quality), SBC 30 case to match the phone in same color, HKD100 supermarket coupon, a Momax well known branded, quality bluetooth wireless speaker and a 32GB memory card.
The price of my DEFF is 2800yen, but the RASTA BANANA/ラスタバナナ is like 4300yen these price is just the protector itself.

I just order yesterday a Skinomi full screen coverage and body for Xperia X on Amazon US. It on the way now. Hope it will be good because I have to pay 25$ after tax for glass screen protect.

I got the G Color one and it fits very well, no bubbles. I wish it was clear though, so I also ordered the Deff which arrives next week to see if I like the look better. Both available on Amazon in US.

Does anyone have a link to a screen protector that has full coverage and is orderable to North America from a site that is available in English?

what do you think of the deff, I have taken it off, as you can't use it with the OEM style cover from Sony.

I like the Deff more than the G Color because it actually adheres to the screen making touch more accurate. It also looks better because they matched the graphite color exactly. My G Color cracked at the edges after one week, not very durable. Hoping the Deff lasts longer.

YooMee Black Amazon Kindle Fire Case and amFilm screen protector review [updated]

I'm going down the shore (to the beach, for those not in the New Jersey USA tri-state area) this weekend and am definitely taking my Nexus 7 with me. I wanted to get a case and screen protector to protect against sand from the beach.
I wanted a folio-type case and I don't like the kind that cover the bezel, so choices are a little limited on such short notice. Most of the cases specific to the Nexus 7 are shipping starting a bit too late for my trip. I decided to go with the YooMee Kindle Fire folio case. One of the reviews mentioned that the Nexus 7 fit in the case and for $7.99 shipped two day (thanks Amazon Prime), I decided it was worth the risk.
I also wanted screen protection. I don't like wet installs, so I picked up the amFilm Clear and amFilm Matte screen protectors. Each are two packs. The Clear version is $5.99 with Prime and the Matte version is $4.99 with Prime. I've only received the Clear version so far. The Matte version is out for delivery as I type this.
First the case:
YooMee Black Amazon Kindle Fire 7 Inch Android Tablet Leather Case Cover Folio with Multi-Angle Stand and Hand Strap (Black)
I am generally pleased with this case in the 15 minutes I've had it on the Nexus 7. It does not quite fit, the Nexus is just a tad big. You can see air between the corner of the case and the tablet. But it isn't loose and there doesn't seem to be any risk of it falling out.

Another small thing I don't like is the way the multi-angle stand works. It actually took me a couple minutes to figure out how it worked. You actually take the left half of the part of the case the tablet is attached to off of the tablet and use that to create the angle. It works fine, I just don't particularly like the way it works. That's really just my opinion. The headphone, charge port, power button, and volume buttons are all exposed and easily accessible. There is no blockage. The clasp works well.
EDIT: I realized after I wrote this that the speaker is blocked, but the sound is still strong and plenty loud, at least for my purposes at the moment.
This does not have the sleep/wake magnet. I didn't really care about it for this case.
Initial feelings:
I bought this case because it was cheap, in stock, available for Prime shipping, and I was in a time crunch. I originally did not expect to use this case for more than the short term until specific cases came out, but I think I'll be using this for a while. I'm generally surprised with it. We'll see if that holds up during my vacation.
More pictures:
The other part of my protection plan was a screen protector:
amFilm (TM) Premium Screen Protector Film Clear (Invisible) for Google Nexus 7 Tablet (2-Pack) [in AM Retail Packing]
amFilm (TM) Premium Screen Protector Film Matte Clear (Anti-Glare) for Google Nexus 7 Tablet (2-Pack) [in AM Retail Packing]
I don't want sand to get in the folio cover and then scratch the screen when I close it, so a screen protector is a must. I bought both the clear and matte versions of the amFilm screen protectors. (I haven't yet received the matte version, but I'll update this when I do.)
The screen protector is a dry install, so no soapy hands, no waiting for the screen to dry. Most importantly, no rainbow effect and the screen protector is generally pretty smooth. I say "pretty smooth" because there is a slight amount of drag, but nothing like compared to a wet install screen protector.
The screen protector says it is a "perfect fit" and it's pretty close. Close enough that if you're off by a little bit, even a millimeter, the screen protector won't sit right because it'll be over the lip of the silver frame. It took me a couple tries to get it just right. I got a small piece of dust at the very top right of the top bezel, which I'm not worried about since I'll be taking this off to try out the matte version anyway. Even so, a little scotch tape should fix that right up. Also, each pack comes with 2 protectors, so if you royally mess one up, you've got the back up right there. The card they give you to smooth out bubbles is a dinky little 1x1.5 inch piece of cardboard. You'll be better off using a credit card or another squeegee type smoother-outer. I used a small rubber squeegee I had laying around.
The clear version of the amFilm is just that...clear. It does not degrade the screen quality at all, so far as I can tell. In fact, if anything, the "Clear" version of the screen protector actually seems to make the surface more reflective. There is also no degradation of the touch sensitivity. I have not used it extensively yet, but I don't see any problems at all.
UPDATE: I finally had some time to install the matte screen protector and I've updated the comparison photo below. You can clearly see the difference in reflections.
(Ignore the bubbles in the bottom right and right side middle, they're my fault from the installation. When you're installing the screen protector, just make sure you don't crease it if you're peeling it back to get rid of dust! Haha...luckily it's a two pack
Here's a comparison with the screen on, clear vs matte finishes.
And then this comparison is with both screen protectors on the screen at the same time. Accounting for the distortion from the camera (slight crosshatching in all three parts of the screen), you can clearly see how the matte finish diffuses the reflection, also causing the screen image to be diffused. I don't think it's that drastic and I believe the trade off would be worth it in the bright sun. Also important, you can clearly see how little the clear screen protector distorts the screen. It's pretty impressive actually.
Click "show content" to show the picture. It's a big photo.
The "show content" button isn't working for me, so here's a link to the comparison photo:
http://db.tt/b1zvhbdZ
Overall, I'm very happy with both the case and the screen protector. For the price and the timing, I think these will work very well.
I hope this helps others trying to make a decision about cases and screen protectors.
For the purposes of my trip down the shore, I'll be using the matte screen protector, for sure. I'll see if I switch to the clear when I get home, but I don't think you'd be disappointed with either screen protector, depending on your usage, and considering the trade offs.
As always, your mileage may vary.
Thanks for the review! Case looks nice, as does the screen protector...my only gripe with the case is that it's a tad thicker than some the other cases I've seen such as the Moko. But as you say, great for the price and the speed you received it.
I probably would have preferred the Moko, but it wasn't available when I needed it. In the end, I may still go to that one. The updated version with the sleep/wake function (even though I don't need it right now) and the speaker cutouts is pretty nice. It also appears to fit the Nexus 7 much better (as it should since it's for it) and seems thinner.
The last tablet cover I got was also from amFilm, and it was one of the best I've used. My matte/clear versions should actually be arriving today to protect my sweet, sweet nexus.
So how did you like the matte sp? Any screen distortion? How much did it affect the screen brightness?
Something about my fingers (too oily? Yeah I know weird...) makes it too hard to use crystal or no screen protector. I reckon the matte provides less resistance.
Thanks for the review!

Sorry, I got the matte protector late on Wednesday and then was busy all day Thursday. I finally got it installed for the comparison this morning. I really like the matte protector. It does a great job of cutting back on glare.
I've updated the OP with additional photos and comparisons.
I ordered the nexus 7 yoomee case that can wake and sleep the device. I did because of the reviews yoomee got for their other cases.

It shipped on the first. It was only 7.99 when i pre-ordered it (now it's 9.99). If you end up liking the kindle fire version the specific nexus 7 case might be up your alley.
This looks like the same case but made for the Nexus 7.

Excellent, thanks for the update. I agree with you, I will definitely put on the matte screen protector I purchased thanks to your recommendation.

Screen protector or no?

Looking for advice on screen protector vs. no screen protector for my shiny new Moto X that just arrived. I can't seem to find one locally so I'll have to order something online if I need it (tried local AT&T, Best Buy, and Office Max because I was walking by it). I used to run a Ghost Armor protector on my old Galaxy Nexus but took it off for the last 4-5 months or so before I moved to a Lumia 1020. The GNex with Samsung's version of Gorilla Glass 2 had no scratches on it. So I figured I'd not run one on the Lumia which had GG 3 (same as the Moto X).
However my Lumia has two nice strips of rubbed in scratches across the top & bottom parts of the screen about 1/2 an inch in from the edge that I noticed after a few months and they have just gotten worse in the last year. I'm paranoid the same thing is going to happen to the Moto since it's also GG 3. The phone always goes in a pants pocket with a plastic eye drop bottle but never keys.
I live recklessly. No screen protector or case. I was in a position where someone was telling me to get one, but I like the feeling of the glass on the curving at the edges. A screen protector would disrupt the flow. I take really good care of my phones anyway. My HTC One M7 I had before for over a year didn't have anything and it only has one thin scratch from my girlfriend's diamond earrings. Which by the way, pro tip: warn people with diamond earrings to mind your phone if you let someone use it.
Personal preference, but I like the phone how it is. I don't buy a good looking phone to put a case on it.
I usually think that screen protectors, and cases are like insults to the designers who made this delightful piece of machinery... so no screen for me, and no cases, naked Moto X for me.. as always!
Do you guys put your phones in your pockets or? I thought I took good care of my phones until the glass on my Lumia.

There's always going to be those guys that don't use screen protectors, and the ones that do. I'm one that does. I've had my X exactly 1 week without a protector, but am expecting it in the mail tomorrow. No scratches at this point, and I prefer to keep it that way with a little more solid protection than just the type of glass it is. I always order Japanese pet film from amazon, much cheaper than in store, and is a hard material so screen still feels natural.

I usually don't use screen protectors or cases, but I have found that I am incredibly clumsy with this phone so far and have managed to dent the edges of the phone and scratch the screen a bit. So now I use a naked tough case and a cheap matte screen protector. I was a bit hesitant on the matte protector but thankfully I like it very much. I even like the papery feel to it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
No screen protector here. I switch between 3 phones daily and none of them have screen protectors. Aside from the fact that glass is pretty hard to scratch, I just like the feel of the bare glass and see no point in protecting a screen that you're never going to touch (if you use a protector). Just take care of it and you'll be fine. I do use cases on two of my phones, but the Moto X (which is my primary phone) stays naked 98% of the time.
All of my previous phones had a screen protector installed immediately, my Moto X hasn't had one since I got it.
I planned on getting one but the mall kiosk that used to be ghost armor, then another brand isn't there any longer. I cannot do them myself because of my OCD, I always ruin it somehow, believe me I have tried.
I have a very slim case on the X but I am tempted to not use that as well and go completely naked, would be the first time I have ever done that.
I'll always use a screen protector, even though I'm very careful with the devices. To me, since I already take very good care of the device - I'm extra picky on getting a screen protector that is very thin and clear. The device has curved glass towards the edges, so don't expect that to be covered unless you get one of those heat-application full coverage protectors.
This is the one I ended up going with... after 2 months or so, it's still fantastic. If you are familiar with the old Reallook protectors, this one's identical to that. Static application, plain and simple, thin with no orange peel.

Thanks for the tip. Those are cheap, I'll grab a pack of them to get by for now and give me some time to figure out if there are better ones. The whole tempered glass thing has me intrigued but a quick search showed they seem to want to hit those curved edges which causes them to not work well either.

Yeah I was really thinking about the tempered glass also, but I was worried about thickness and feel (as it wouldn't cover the edges either) - and eventually decided against it.
With today's technology, the phones don't need screen protector at all, but if you insist on running a screen protector, I'd suggest tempered screen protector as the ordinary ones are even not protective enough than the screen itself. One thing you should also consider is, running a tempered screen protector will make the touch reponse insensitive according to my personal experience.

Well, I thought I didn't need one on the phone I had before the Moto X, a Lumia 1020 that is also supposed to use Gorilla Glass 3. I think I mentioned already I have a Galaxy Nexus with Samsung's version of GG2 that had no screen protector for the last 4 months or so that I used it daily before getting the Lumia and it had no problems with scratches. The Lumia however in the same time started getting what you see in the attached picture. That picture is today after owning for a year and doing nothing differently than the Gnexus. The only other thing ever in the same pocket is a plastic eye drop bottle. In some ways it looks almost like a coating was rubbed off, but there are some good solid scratches in it as well that are not just some coating. So that's why I was paranoid about the Moto X.

I found a 3 pack of tempered glass screen protectors for $9 USD on Amazon (with free Prime shipping!) so I caved and ordered them. It was such an amazing deal that I figured if I didn't like them it wasn't a big loss (not like $30+ name brand ones anyway). I must say, I'm pretty impressed. My only complaint is that they don't cover all the glass, but they really can't because of the curved edges on the X. It was super easy to install, and I got it on PERFECTLY with zero imperfections like dust, etc. It doesn't affect screen sensitivity at all, and since it's glass it still feels great. I'm surprising myself here, but I definitely recommend them, especially for people like me that generally hate screen protectors. For $9 for 3 of them you really can't go wrong.

Can you post a pic of what it looks like? (or a link to the post if I missed it somewhere) I'm curious how "not covered" the screen is since the only place I noticeably see a curve is right at the edge where it meets the bezel.

Here ya go. I think the screen starts sloping a little bit before it hits the obviously rounded edges. I read reviews for a bunch of different glass screen protectors and they were all either a little too small like mine, or the right size but the edges don't stick right because of the sloped glass. I bought one from a different manufacturer for my iPhone 6 as well and it has the same issue. The screen protector I have for it is just as small as the one for the Moto X because it too has rounded edges. It was annoying at first (on both phones) but I've gotten used to it and it doesn't bother me any more. I'm still not sure if I'm going to keep using them though, as I still prefer a bare screen.

Ah ok. Thanks for the pic, that looks like the same coverage as the Mr. Shield PET protectors I just bought. So I think I could live with that. Yeah I'd rather go without anything, but after my experience with that Lumia and GG3 I'm just paranoid. I've never had any other phone do that, and I would expect a screen protector to look just as bad after a few months if not worse so that makes it really confusing to me that it happened.

*AVOID* Skinomi Tech Glass - Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Glass Screen Protector

The packaging is fancy, install is pretty straight forward... but all the means nothing if the screen protector doesn't cover the whole screen, nor adhere to it either. There is about 1-2 mm on both sides that is left uncovered by the screen protector, and then about 2-3mm where the screen protector does not adhere to the screen leaving an ugly effect. While the part that's not adhered to the screen is only noticeable while the screen is off, the portion uncovered is noticeable with the screen on. You can tell where the screen protector ends and portion not cover begins because of the curved edge of the protector. And there is an annoying rainbow effect when looking at the edge of the screen protector at an angle when the screen is off.
I wonder if these people actually "test" these screen protectors before they start selling them. Or they just go off the design specs available online when measuring.

I've got mine when they were promo'd on slickdeals for like 95 cents. The packaging is nice but there does seem to be a lot of complaints about halo's and whatnot, haven't put it on yet. Quess i shoulda researched before i bought
I installed the skinomi a while ago and it had halo but was sized much better than what is pictured here. I wonder how there can be so much variability in the manufacturing process.

Have you tried contacting Skinomi before creating a thread like this? It's very possible you just got a bad protector. Keep in mind glass protectors won't cover the entire front glass since it's slightly curved at the edges, but it does look like yours is a bit small. I have a Skinomi glass protector on my Note5 and it covers the entire visible display quite nicely (almost perfect to the edges of the display). No halo effect either.
They'll likely give you a free replacement.
Someone might have accidently packaged a different protector from another phone.
I would contact the manufacturer and they'll probably send you the correct one.
Ya sorry but i used the promotion on here and got one for .95 shipped and overall it adhered good and is sized much better than yours. Only at the bottom right corner where i believe my fingernail scraped away some of the adhesive lifting it back up was it not sticking.
Sent from my SM-N920P using XDA Free mobile app
Other than the slight "halo" mine fits just fine. It's doing its job of protecting the screen
Halo all the way around. I tossed mine. My phone is naked now but I will be going back to matte screen protectors when they arrive. Ran through too many glass protectors and all of them have halo. Not paying $30+ for a screen protector.

I ordered two of these (in case one arrived cracked/damaged) then I would not have to wait on a replacement to keep my phone protected. And if both arrived with out damage, then I would have a spare if the 1st was damaged during use. Both that I received were exact same size, and neither covered the display entirely.
I had no issues with "halo" effect in the screen protector itself. My issue was it does not cover the entire screen (the screen not the glass front.)
And I'm well aware that glass screen protector do not go from edge to edge of the front of the device; yet they should at least cover the actual display itself.

I have to say the screen protector can not be the way as you wanted if your screen has a little curve edge .
most of the affordable screen protector just sized down a little bit , it is easy to make also , will reduce the cost of the product
and it will be easy to go with case
as i know you have a supcase , why did you still use the screen protector ?

I've been using Android since 2008 on my T-mobile G1, and have bought new devices every year. I know how a screen protector should look and function.
Stopping the screen protector before it even covers the actual display is not acceptable or how they fit properly. (and incase you are not aware "display" is the part of the device that produce the imagery, the visual interactive part when you press the power button, not the bezel or "entire" front of the phone.)
You are stalking my reviews on Amazon, gonna start stalking them on Xda also?
And as far as your comment about SUPCASE; I have many cases, SUPCASE, Otterbox, Spigen, and UAG. Also several off brand cases.
I don't use the same case all the time, I like to switch it up. And having a screen protector on the device allows me to use cases that don't
have them built in (which most do not)

Screen protectors

Righteo, our phones will be arriving in a week, which screen protectors should we be buying? Thoughts?
I'm tempted by a tempered glass (pun not intended, but I chuckled), but haven't had one before. They seem like they can be pretty thin these days and keep the nice feeling of glass instead of plastic. My Z3C came with protectors for front and back in the box, but looking at the "whats included" things, I can't see any mention of that for the XZ1c.
I guess the requirements are: can't be crap; gotta be reasonably easy to apply bubble free; nice to touch; not going to peel or flake after a few months; not a finger-print magnet; doesn't interfere with the touchscreen function; doesn't alter the colours.
Get your suggestions in! Mobilefun have a couple available to preorder, but I've got no reason to think these are any better than ones on Amazon etc.
Just got my XZ1 Compact from Sony HK. They gave me a third party "nano protector" which is crap; covers the screen but not the wall glass area, the texture is nice but it's a dust magnet. Looking for a full screen tempered glass protector now..
Sent from my G8441 using Tapatalk
Definitely go tempered glass, just dropped my nexus 5x today (a week before upgrade to XZ1 compact) and the screen protector cracked but the screen is fine. I also know a guy at work who has dropped his iphone at least 6 times and broken the screen protector only.
Im tempted to get the sony Xperia™ XZ1 Compact Style Cover Stand SCSG60 for a bit more protection but not sure how ill get on with a cover case like that.
Screen protector wise i've only seen these in the UK
Not sure whats curved about it but its official ish by the looks of it. Not sure i like the black boxes though.

Not heard of Olixar but this one has clear glass all over.
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/olixar-s...t-tempered-glass-screen-protector-black-65018
I found a cheap tempered glass protector, the only one I could find after couple of hours checking shops in Hong Kong.
It went to the trash bin after a day...
It covered the screen area only and its edges wouldn't stick to the phone glass...
Yes, I just found out that the XZ1 glass is 2.5D so it is slightly curved, very very slightly but still.
I guess it will be hard to find a full screen one then. The best option I've found on Internet is a curved plastic protector, similar to what I had on my S7 edge; it should cover nicely the whole area without bubbles or the issues all the curved tempered glass had, but this kind of material is fingerprint, smudges and grease magnet...

Purchased the full glass screen protector mentioned here as well as the Roxfit book case. Will let you guys know how it goes when I receive them.
Looks like the tempered glass ones don't reach to the edges due to curving of the screen. Might be a bit tricky to find one that covers the entire front properly, and even then, I guess glass is out of the question.
Gonna try one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0755DYRYQ

This is the Roxfit one, they do the cases under the 'made for xperia' partnership so id hope the glass would be good too (even if not made for xperia)
https://www.roxfit.mobi/products/sony-xperia-xz1-compact-full-cover-tempered-glass
Roxfit one looks the same, I think these ones with the coloured surrounds might be edge-to-edge. If you look at the clear options on Amazon a number of them mention they'll only cover the screen and not go to the edge due to curves. There are a couple of reviews on the XZ1 protectors that mention they don't go to the edge.
Should get mine tomorrow and just received notification of dispatch of my phone too, so hopefully they'll all rock up some time tomorrow.
I bought this screen protector and I'm a little disapointed. Although it was easy to put on and has a good finish. It doesn't wrap round the edges of the curved display and thb, I can't imagine there are any protectors that will.
Part of a screen protectors design is to be hard and ridgid to resist scratches, now get that hard material to wrap round a 90 degree corner.
I'll be interested in feedback of the other protectors listed here.

Easy to put on, I did it straight away, so I pulled off the shipping cover and slapped this one down in one movement. No dust, no bubbles.
The black frame is a little weird, the most noticeable bit is the cut out for the Sony logo. But be warned with these glass frames - you cannot use the official DK60 dock! It is just slightly too big to slot in to the correct sized bracket. I've had to use a bigger bracket and shove a bit of card down the back.
Anyone have a suggestion of a normal nonglass screen protector? I just love the one that originally came with my z3c - it's oleophobic so I honestly never see any fingerprint smudges on the screen.

So is it ok in use with the phone? Id rather have full coverage but ive seen some not full coverage ones that are completely clear and so wont look as odd with the black sections.
Alas, the only camera I have on me at the moment is my phone. But it doesn't look too bad, I can't see a clear one looking any better in reality as the thickness is the most distracting thing. A film one will get a snugger fit, but the clarity and feel isn't anywhere as nice as glass.
This one from Protectionfilms24.com is more up my street, old school film with cutouts only where they need to be but need to get more info on just how much "smaller than the display" it actually is.
(all screen protectors listed in this thread don't ship to my country and I'm not a big fan of colored frame either)
Last try until I give up and just use my phone without a screen protector.
Installed an " Imak Hydrogel " protector (installation requires water)... Good thing is it came with 2 pieces.
I have lot of experience with regular plastic ones and tempered glass but this is my first protector requiring water..
I've installed the first one and I had an horrible texture, when I decided to remove it I also tried to reposition it just to see if it could be better. Indeed it was but it was also already ruined by my fingerprints underneath. (it doesn't adhere to transparent tape, hard to find a way to peel it off or just reposition it)
I've then installed the spare one and is definitely better this time. Not perfect but definitely usable. I have to see how scratch prone it is and if it doesn't retain oil or fingerprints too much.
Oh yes and it is covering the whole glass edge to edge..

I went with the Omaton (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0755DYRYQ) as previously listed. Really not a fan of the black frame bits i just dont see the need and it stops one product being used by all coloured models which seems a bit unsound in a business sense too.
Still the application and packaging and all the stickers screen wipes and so on made the process really easy and i got a dust and bubble free application and pleased with the end result and i can live with the oddly boxed Sony logo.

You can see it goes past the edge of the screen, but doesn't quite meet the edge of the phone (due to curving). So unless somebody makes a shaped front piece, I think this probably going to be as good as it gets for glass.

Accessories Glass screen protector for P7

I bought the Zagg , it was the only one offered when preordering P7 and I thought Zagg had a decent rep.
The install is one of the best I have used. I thought if I got any dust motes, they would be absorbed after 24 or so hours as all previous Glass has done.
Nope, noway Nicht, not happenin' here.
*heavysigh*
Nice enough glass but its just those 5 lil spec bubbles that are still there.
Fingerprint scanner works just fine, glass is slick.
Anyone else have a better option/experience?
I have a Whitedome on order too.

The amFilm cases here are incredible. FP works every single time, I didn't even have to re-enroll with the protector on, no bubbles, etc. Three for $10, you just cannot beat it.

I got the Ivoler tempered glass from Amazon and it is crap. Don't buy this. I just ordered another brand and will report later.
- Ivoler -
Pros: comes with an installation frame, has 2,5D edges, length is OK
Cons: gets greasy and smudgy fast, fingerprint and touchinput really suck (even after setting up fingerprints two more times), it's a bit too narrow regarding the width

That one is available for Germany too. Gonna get it maybe if the just ordered "HidWee" from Amazon suck. Man, I love buying a smartphone for like 750€, plus a charger for 30€ and then buying gear for it tryna find the good stuff paying like 100€ extra for stuff that just sucks LOL. I'm so glad I'm rich. jk, I'm not rich, I'm nuts.
Agreed, that's pretty wild. IF it covered the last mm to the edge of the screen, us rich folk might consider if we're just nuts enough

Sometimes buying something like the Whitedome (which is pretty good I read) would be better than buying 5-6 packs of ****ty $10 tempered glass screen protectors. But on the other hand, if you buy the cheap stuff and let's say on the first or second order you get the real thing (which happened very often to me during the last 10 years) that's better for your wallet I guess.

It's 50 on their www, preorder from Google 40. Yeah it's a lot but there was bugger all available until the phone actually released and I didn't want to take a chance on the screen, bad enough I went without a case for 2 days. I thought about returning the glass, any glass theses days that doesn't absorb dust motes is bad glass imo. The_tech is there ffs. Yeah it's a lot, you are correct.

This product gets more and more bad 1 star reviews.
The HidWee sucks too. Fingerprint is better than with other glasses, but it does not stick well on the edges. Sigh. Let's wait for other products.
oh man, that rating is tanking indeed. fwiw, mine went on perfectly, all corners and no bubbles, on the first try.
fingerprint misses sometimes, but far and away better than the 6, which is the only reason i upgraded because it was so bad. i'd say it gets it 9/10, but i do gotta put my finger flat on there.
Amazon: B0BG3DZBYX
This one is cheap, but one of the better TGSP for Pixel 7. FP works better than with the previous tested. Not perfect, but better. Edges are OKish, not 100% sticky, but better than the HidWee.
Bought one, it doesn't appear as a repackaged P6 glass protector, and dimensions are OK, but the edges do not stay down and I have a tiny border around my phone where the protector is coming up a bit. Is this probably a rebranded P6 protector?
I usually don't like plastic protectors but I ordered Ringke Dual Easy Film as first protector before finding the perfect glass. And I gotta say, this is quite good. It is not glass-good but as a plastic protector it does its job well. Oleophobic coating is quite good and the install method was quick and painless.
The edges are sharp when you swipe them but good case helps with that.
And the fingerprint works as it should with a plastic protector.
Gonna keep this one before finding just the right glass!
I bought the caseology screen protector(no hole in the screen protector) and applied it. It fits perfectly with the ringke case and after re-registerin the fingerprint it works almost perfect.
Am 3 pack are decent. Apply perfect, no bubbles, good price, but doesn't cover entire screen. 1mm gap on all edges of phone...
After using a screen protector from Amazon which rendered the fingerprint sensor basically useless, I've orderered and tested a few models from Aliexpress.
This one seems to be the best so far. Sizing is pretty good and the sensor works nearly as good as without a protector. Still not perfect, but reasonable well for the not so great optical sensor of the Pixel. The seller claims a thickness of only 0.26mm (most of the other brands I've seen are >0.3mm) which might be the reason why this one performs better.

I have that one and I need to use the pattern unlock many times
Has anyone tried Mr. Shield? https://a.co/d/hreYG9j
I have been using them on all my family's phones for years. They definitely honor their lifetime warranty, very easy... just send an email with Amazon receipt and pic of the damaged protector and they ship a whole new package.
I have one on my Pixel 6 and the fingerprint works okay-ish. I was going to order it for my soon to be delivered Pixel 7, but the reviews have me a bit worried.
I got this from Amazon US and it works perfectly. This is my 4th screen guard and by far the best.
