Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction on how to remove the audio hack from the kernel on cyanogenmod 5.0.8-test3? (i'm sure it's the same for many previous ones too)
It is far too loud for me and gets distorted anywhere about 60% volume on a call. I've never compiled my own kernel, but if that's what I have to do, I'll figure that out too then. It would be nice to not have to to all that for it, but I really don't know how the hack was accomplished in the first place.
Thanks!
yeah i nociticed this too, so i just keep it on 60% volume. i'd rather have it and not need it or use it then not have it at all.
Edit the min_gain & max_gain in board-mahimahi-audio.c and q6audio.c. Those were the values I adjusted that really made the in call volume super loud.

FWIW, I think its too loud too, I would prefer a kernel with a volume midway between stock and insane
Hey thanks roto, I'll have to take a look at that over the weekend. Hopefully my internet will be back on at home then...
[SOLUTION]
Use +9dB as maximum boost (this is now the set default in the Note as Supercurio has found +10.5dB seems to cause headset detection confusion with some headsets).
Wondering if anyone else is having a problem where the system media volume periodically drops back with Voodoo LOUDER running? I note the problem seems to be worse when using line-out rather than just headsets?
I'm on Rocket ROM V15, Abyss-Kernel 2.8, KL7 with KL7 modem.
I've so far tried the following to fix it to no avail:
Thought it might be PowerAMP related, so tried all manner of permutations in PowerAMP settings, disabling headset automatic activities, advanced audio engine settings etc --> no success
Tried other music players - stock and Ubermusic --> no success
Different headsets --> no luck
Using the Voodoo LOUDER slider instead of the Smart Boost --> same problem
Given none of that works I'm wondering if this is a kernel issue (even though the whole compatibility check runs fine). If no one has any better suggestions I'll flash another kernel this evening and see if that helps.
I have contacted Supercurio, but thought someone else here might have already cracked this one for me?
If you disable "Smart Boost" in Voodoo LOUDER, the app loose any ability to affect volume at all.
I'm not sure in your report if it's what you meant by "instead of smart boost"
Oh really? Because when I turn that off I can still increase the volume with the slider option, so because of that I thought you could either have slider or use the Smart Boost. Regardless, it's not working with Smart Boost either!

Hi NZtechfreak! I've seen your awesome videos on Youtube!
Anyways, I've been considering purchasing Voodoo because of the terrible sound quality on my GNote, but was wondering if you managed to correct the issue.
Also, a side question, does Voodoo improve the in-call volume when using the 3.5mm jack? I ask because it is TERRIBLY low when I have it connected to the AUX in my car.
Thanks
I just installed it on mt E4GT and when i max out the volume is causes my music player to stop. Whether its on smart boost or not

The issue was that on max boost the headset detection gets confused, Supercurio mentioned this in his latest update. The max boost on the Note is now +9dB and it works perfectly (still more than sufficient). Hasn't made a noticeable difference to in-call volume in the car (I use mine in the same way you do). Presumably only affects media volume.
Thanks for the update
The big question is, is it worth the $15?

What is $15?
Edit: ah, lol New Zealand dollars, I was really wondering what it was about & checked.
Edit2
Wait.. seems like a bug.
Edit3
Fixed.
Any plans of solve the issue that when you up to 10.5dB all music playing stop?
Hope that you are working on this because if not i dont understand why you still keep the 10.5dB option in the app if it doesnt work :S
Or how about going beyond +3db for ICS? It doesn't do squat anymore
Does not work with Cm. Damn...

I would like to know how audio processing in Android works.
For the last three months I've tried out many different ROMs for the Xiaomi Mi 3. One of the most important aspects of a ROM for me is the headphone sound quality, since I use my device most for listening music on my Shure SE215's. I have noticed that there is a huge different in headphone sound between ROMs. MIUI kitkat sounds nothing like Cyanogenmod 12.1, which sounds nothing like Cyanogenmod 13.0, which sounds nothing like Mokee 6.0.1. In my opinion my headphones sound best with Mokee 6.0.1. No muddy lows or an unpleasant harsh sound, but a nicely balanced sound with especially the mids and highs sounding gorgeous and way better than CM13.0 which is my daily driver at the moment. What does a ROM do to an audio file before sending a direct signal to the earphone? Does the kernel play a role? I'm not interested in speaker sound, only headphones. And is it possible to export whatever makes Mokee 6.0.1 sound so good to Cyanogenmod 13.0?
Help me out here!
why not just use viperfx and tweak it how you like?
Tried that first thing, but it somehow heavily increased ambient noise. Everything worked properly in Viper, but no matter how much I tweaked it, I wasn't able to get the sound Mokee produces. There was also a profile for my particular in-ear monitors that's supposed to make it compensate and sound flat, but that really decreased the sound stage a lot. Might be that Viper4Android induces a phase shift or increases audio latency. I'm not familiar with the terms that audiophiles use, so I have no idea how to describe the change in sound (even if the frequency response is similar). I also tried using AudioFX which is built into Cyanogenmod to equalize it to a sound signature I prefer, but whatever I do. I can't get it to sound similar to Mokee. Cyanogenmod sounded the same as Mokee about a month ago, but then the sound drivers for the Mi 3 got all messed up when they imported the Dirac profiles from MIUI, which probably just adds a huge load of post processing to the audio and adds some bass and whatever most people like, but it annoys me a lot. So I guess my last option to get a nice headphone experience is to unpack Cyanogenmod, replace the audio files and libraries with those from Mokee and repack the zip. But which files?
I had note 3 with viper4android. The sound was great.
When I bought Note 8 first impression that the sound processor has no ... power and with loud music distorts sound.
I am asking for an opinion - is it worth installing Viper4android on Note 8? There is a big difference in sound compared to stock.
Yes. major difference

Is root needed?
Yes.
Hi folks....got my Note 8 all rooted and working on the customizing and such. Of course one of the key reasons for root is for ViperFX which I've used for years and love!
I had no problems installing Viper by following the instructions in some other thread in spite of Flash Fire no longer working...all the buttons work and such...at least so it seems.
It's certainly louder and maybe clearer...but I can't definitely tell if it's on or off!!...Does one turn it on or off via that Master Power switch within it? Is it permanently on?
Thanks for the help
I just installed Viper4Android along with Dolby. Sound is definitely far louder and better.
However, with my high end earphones, I am unable to get decent sound.
Can you gurus please share your Viper4Android ''heatset'' settings? Thanks1!
I would rather look for IRS or convolvers, there are plenty of them, you surely will find one of your liking

Do you mean speaker is louder (not earpiece)? I tried V4A by itself and it made marginal difference
I just couldn't get v4A to work at all. Kept saying drivers not installed.
I just modified the mixer_gains.xml to change the headphone volume and now they are super loud and perfectly clear. V4A not required at all

I had issues at first getting Viper4Android working. Are you rooted with SuperSU or Magisk? If possible, root using Magisk as it is far easier to get Viper4Android to work.
Using Magisk, download and install the Viper4Android module, activate and reboot. Job done.
I do have Magisk and TWRP installed but it just wouldn't work.
You guys can try my profile if you want, just put the items in the correct folders and load it up
It has the perfect balance of what I like
P.S the convolved is optional, for me it just makes it sound a little bit more clearer by using the original sound driver
Well I had a Galaxy Tab S6 and sounded great, but i feel like the g tab S8+ sounds really bad, no bass and the sound is not that loud, does anyone noticed it?
I had the Tab S6 combined with Viper4Android and it sounded clean, loud & crisp sound. Now going to the S8 Ultra i have to agree with you on the sound quality especially the loudness. Like its loud but it could be louder

Did you root your S8 Tab and install Viper? I've done anything possible, followed every guide there is and couldn't get Viper to work. It's just stuck in driver installation loop.

I have tried every method to try get it to work but no success i think due to sepolicy is set to enforcing not permissive or due to data not being decrypted
The method that usually worked for me on A12 was creating a post-fs-data.sh file in the V4a magisk module directory and it usually worked
