[Q] Trouble With Free Wi-Fi Networks - Huawei P9 Questions & Answers

Hoping someone can help. I popped by McDonalds on the weekend and thought I‘d make use of their free Wi-Fi. I have done this many times over the years. With all previous Android phones I just connect to the Wi-Fi and it takes me automatically to a sign-in page, fill in some credentials, then connection is granted.
However with this phone no sign-in prompt arrives and nothing happens. It just connects to the Wi-Fi router and just sits there. No internet connection. No opening and closing of my browser or refreshing home page prompts it. I’ve tried forgetting the connection and re-starting the phone then trying again. Same deal. Does anyone know if I’m missing something? Is there a manual procedure I should be following?
Still running stock B137.

I've noticed the same problem too. I had to open a webpage, then the sign in info will appear.

Network Analyzer OK but data connection problems

Hi,
So far the AT&T Tilt has been kicking some serious ass. However, there has been one glitch that I'm hoping someone might know more about.
Twice now, the internet connection has stopped working through the cellular data connection. Connecting through active sync and wi-fi still works. The last time this happened I called Fido (Calgary, Canada), found out that everything was OK on their end and then tried a bunch of connection settings. Doing what they asked me to do didn't solve the problem. Then, seemingly by magic without doing anything in particular, the connection started working again and I could connect to web pages again through IE.
So it has happened again, and I can't to connect to the internet using IE (or any other application). Here is the status so far:
- tried rebooting the device
- been able to connect via wi-fi and active sync
- Installed Microsoft's Network Analyzer application which reports the following: IP address is assigned (cellular connection) and able to ping microsoft's http server (www.microsoft.com ). Note that when I disconnect my data connection the ping to microsoft fails so I believe it is actually reaching the server. There is no MAC address for the cellular network adaptor, but I don't know if this is normal or not. See the attached document which is the log file it generated.
- Tried to connect via Google Maps, Direct push (Exchange), Octro Talk. All of the applications give the same message that the page or service can't be found. It is odd that the Network Analyzer seems to be the only application that can talk to the outside world.
- Also re-ran the diable proxy cab for the Tilt
I didn't play with any of the connection settings prior to this happening so it's hard to tell what is causing the problem.
Thanks in advance,
Alan
Flash your ROM
If you are having the same trouble, I fixed my problem by flashing to an HTC ROM. Screen layout switching is faster now, my network connection is working and the system seems generaly faster. I'm using Dutty's Hybrid test final rom V4. If there is stuff about your tilt that you don't like, and you aren't actually using AT&T as your carier, then I would just ditch their ROM.

Wifi problems

I am unable to get Wifi to connect to any network! The device shows me the available network and everything, but it says it's connecting to them and then it just says they're available. It was working fine for 2 weeks on this rom Ultimate-X2.V9 and just stopped yesterday. Its a Kaiser
Any solutions? Suggestions?
if they are not your wifi router networks they could have added mac filtering to keep you out
otherwise maybe their firmware require an update or they just need a restart all the connects handheld devices make often confuse the dhcp in the router
I've got the same problem, but they are my networks, and they've all been restarted.
One network especially doesn't have mac filtering applied, but has SSID hidden, which is fine, but it still won't connect.
I have been dicking about with changing Roms recently, but am back on the stock HTC rom, so wondering if something could've messed up the Wifi abilities.
Thanks,
Hi,
I have the same problem on my kaiser, with every rom I've tried.
On a previous rom, I found a reg key which prevented wifi to connect, and it resolved the problem, but now I can't remember what the key is...
Wifi APs are detected, identification is sent, PPC asks for the wep/wpa key, identification seems to succeed, sometimes I even get the right IP, but nothing happens, and the PPC stops the connection to the AP after a few seconds...
Very annoying
I should add, all routers in use are fully up-to-date with their firmwares, and recently I've been receiving a message saying "Shell32.exe" issue.
I get the option to send the report to M$, however the ironic problem with that is I need the network to use it!
I've just flashed my phone back to the original Orange ROM, so I'll see how that goes now, but when I did manage to connect to my home network, it would connect, allow me to even refresh my IP, but not allow me to access any websites, use any installed applications etc.
same problem
but it happend after i installed moorhunn.
Little better after i uninstalled it but my kaiser still drop the connection in a few seconds and want to turn on the 3g connection instead...
I getting an error message that says"no active programs is started".

[Q] Wifi Connection

Ok, so I am trying to connect to my schools wifi network. It is an unencrypted network but requires going to a login screen before you can do anything (like most public wifi networks).
My phone connects just fine but the browser never redirects to the login page. I even found the url for the login page on my laptop and tried going directly to it. No dice.
Any thoughts?
I am running cognition 3.04 if it makes a difference. Stock browser.
Also, it has worked in the past, although it was erratic. Sometimes it would redirect automatically, sometimes only if I refreshed. Now however it is not doing it at all. Its obnoxious becuase I use Y5 battery saver so if I turn my wifi off it turns right back on and in order to keep it off I have to go in and disable Y5, which I then have to remember to enable again later.

I had similar issues on a guest wifi such as your schools. Sometimes I would have to clear the browser cache then kill the browser app and reopen it. It was very annoying, but it usually worked. Cant hurt to try.
I had the stock ROM at the time, but now running Perception 10.2.
I am having different issues now. :/

If you are able to access other websites fine, then I would suggest downloading a different browser to access the particular site you need. Try Dolphin as I hear that mentioned a lot as a decent alternative.

Try typing 1.1.1.1 in the url bar
Are you getting a ip address?
that did not work, neither did the above suggestion of clearing cache and killing the browser app then reloading.
I am not entirely sure what you mean when you ask if I am getting an ip address.
Having same issue as you.
Someone told me to use static IP trick..
(IP: 192.168.1.100)
(Gateway: 192.168.1.1)
Doesnt work..
I will try the 2 other trick when I get to school next week.

The phone gets its IP address (network address) from a server in your router. If the phone is connected to a WiFi network it will be visible in settings. Touch the network name that is connected to see the status. If there is no IP address, there may be an issue in your router. An IP address is necessary for internet communications.
bump..
my phone gets the ip address
ttt
seems like it have sometthing to do with the cerfiticate..
It is not seen as a valid cerficiate so the phone is not accpeting it...

All I get at work is "Wifi Connected, but no internet". How can I re-direct?

All I get at work is "Wifi Connected, but no internet". How can I re-direct?
Hi everyone,
I have been happily using my rooted NC (1.1+Autonooter3) for the last two weeks or so... At home, NC connects to my WiFi network without any problems. However, at work I have to force it to do one thing to be able to connect, and I dont know how to do that...
Specifically, at work, we have an open campus WiFi network that I normally use with my iPod Touch, MBP, etc. On my MBP, when you connect to the network and start a browser, a new page opens and asks for a username/password and provides access. On iPod Touch, as soon as I connect to the network, a pop up screen (not safari) asks for a user name/password and it remembers it for a while (e.g., I dont have to enter it again for a while even if the device is off for an extended amount of time). When I try to use my NC under the same network, it connects, receives an IP address, but after "testing" period, it displays "no internet" (because I am not asked to enter my credentials). Opening a browser doesn't bring up a page to enter them either. At only one (1) occasion, while waiting for the WiFi to connect I saw a message "the network is attempting to re-direct, do you want to allow it" (or something along those lines) and a pop up asked for a user name /password and the connection worked. However, I have no way of getting that message (tried many many times since), and it simply doesn't show up.
Is there any way that I can enable "re-directing" for that particular network so that I can enter my username and password to use it? Is there an alternative approach (e.g., having the browser to ask the first time it starts?
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Wifi connection is fine on open network, but browser page does not load

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2. At my job, we can connect to an open Wifi network, and then by opening the browser, a login page is automatically loaded. After logging in, we have connection to the internet.
This worked for some months, but now all of a sudden, the login page doesn't load anymore. I am connected to the open wifi however. The browser just keeps loading the homepage, but doesn't refer to the login page to get access to the internet (page stays blank and eventually gives connection error).
Any ideas how to solve this, or what might be wrong?
Forgetting and reconnecting to the wifi does not solve it, neither does restarting the phone.
The strange thing is that this did work for several months.
Thanks.
Have faced a similar issue. Possible solutions are:
1. The wi-fi network you are trying to connect to has lost internet connection or is not working as it should. Try restarting the router.
2. Try opening any other site from browser. Like i also have to log-in b4 using internet and in my case google keeps loading. I tried yahoo and it then redirects to log-in page.
3. If above fail, try to use some other browser like Dolphin Browser, etc.
4. If all fails try re-installing your wi-fi driver.
