Any conversations about battery life are very subjective. There are so many variables involved, what apps you use, what your local basestation is, even what wifi you home router uses along with what sort of charger you use, can all influence battery life and longevity. You can't compare your hours of use with someone else, unless you have two cloned phones and live in the same house and get up and go to bed at the same time
Fo me, best stock rom for battery life is presently Slim 2.0
I don't think KK roms were that good at battery saving.
I have had pretty much the same apps and same usage on my phone through KK, LL and now MM.
With MM I am looking a 4 days on one charge, when I was on KK it was 2 possibly 3.
Although to scew those figures I now use more battery saving apps greenify/amlify
So in reality, the different firmwares are probably all the same battery use, it's just that you get better at looking after the battery the longer you have the phone.

[Q] Batter life

First off I can't spell battery............
I have an ATT Captivate that I have fixed by installing FF3 and Kernel 2.6.32.9 as a package from this site. My battery life isn't noticably worse than it was when it was the stock 2.2 but it still sucks. After 10 or 12 hours of very light use its down aound 15%. The battery use says it's hands down the display thats using the juice.
I was hoping (maybe wrongly so) that having the additional access to the phone I could somehow improve my battery life. I've tried the bump charge, recalibrate, CWR erase battery stats, etc. I also have 2 batteries for it (that probably tells you something right there) and both batteries behave the same.
Does anyone have any suggestions on this? Is there a launcher that I can use that's battey friendly? A different ROM?
It's a shame to have this phone to the state it is with a FF3 rom and faster than it was and not be able to use it all I want.
TIA, Jeff
Some things to help get the best battery life are:
Place screen brightness at lowest level both on web browser and on normal screen.
Switch to 2G when not needed for downloading/uploading data.
Turn off power saving mode under settings/display.
Use as few widgets as possible.
Manually retrieve emails rather than having them sent to you every 30 minutes or less.
In cwm there is a battery settings menu (can't remember what it is called) but you should enable that also.
These are some of the better ways to get better battery life out of your phone.

In 10-12 hours you only have 15% left on your phone? How much time is used for display? My phone can usually last a good 15-20 hrs with light to moderate use. As we all know display is the number one use for battery consumption. I've noticed I can go about 2 and half hours give or take on display before my battery gets kinda low.
As the previous poster has mentioned, screen brightness and data usually are the culprits for bad battery life. Try leaving your screen brightness on a low setting, and turning auto-brightness OFF. Disabling background data in "accounts and sync" setting is also a very good way to help with battery life. Also, making sure your GPS is OFF is another good way to save some juice.

Is there an application that will tell me this other than the about->battery ? Currently my info is limited to percentage of total battery useage and is showing that display is 96%.

tap that it will take you to a more detailed screen with the time used...
Flashed ROM (FF3) while batt low?
I'm pretty sure the batt was not 100% when I flashed to FF3 and I did not clear everything out before either. If this is a potential problem with batt life can I fix this short of reflashing on a full batt?
Is going into CWR and restoring from a backup going to do the same thing as reflashing FF3 from the batteries perspective if I clear everything first?

[Q] The least battery drain ROM?

As what the title says.
SGS has a good performance, but uses really a lot battery in every ROM.
Which one uses the least?
Stock ROM.
there are millions of threads out there explaining battery life and which ROM has best battery life.
is there really any need for another pointless thread ??
battery will get worse if you leave stock ROM, it might change a lot or a little, so if battery life is important to you, stay on a stock ROM
Oh I am sorry.
I find lots of threads about battery life but I didn't find any about which ROM has the best battery life.
And I assumed that there will be some tweaks to have better battery life.
there are many tweaks, including finding the right kernel and undervolting it.
avoid using task killers- they do more harm than good.
stay away from CM7 - MIUI these have battery drain bugs
the list is endless, i would recommend making your own rom at www.romkitchen.org
only cook stuff into the rom that you will use, there are many roms out there packed full of **** we dont use, thus leading to battery drain.
just be wise when choosing
out of old experiences
best i tried was a combo of rom and kernal
insanity rom with a laststufo kernal
of course it isn't the latest version of either but i remember it gave me a big batt diff
usually lasted from 6am to 1pm afternoon before the batt ran out
but with that combo it lasted a full day 6am to 10pm and had about 40% left
also optimized with tasker to watch net usage with screen off and a net check every 10 mins for email notification
found out default email app was bugged so forwarded all my hotmail emails to gmail and that fixed that
now after getting me a lot o spare batteries hell i run thru 3-4 batts a day with everything on and i mean everything with OC as well , hell lot of msn, twitter, facebook, games, browsing im all fun now woohooo ^_^ TY Chinese wall battery chargers ^_^
I use Gemini App Manager to control which app that runs during startup and that helps tremendously to battery life. Juice Defender helps too if you have 3G on. This way you can use any ROM you like and not get too much battery life difference.
I also feel that Gingerbread in general seems to improve on battery life, but I was only on Froyo for 2 days since getting the phone so not a very wide assessment

[Q] ROM with best battery life

I'm searching for custom ROM that has at least a decent battery life.
I'm on Darky's v10.1, but I'm getting Android OS bug very often (and then battery lasts for 5-6 hours), and when I'm not, battery life is around 10-12 hours. I'm pretty annoyed that my battery can't last for whole day and I'm looking for ROM that will give me at least 16 hours of battery life. Also it's preffered that ROM is pretty fast too. Thank you
Try XWJSD, the latest 2.2.1 firmware. Batery life is prety good and it is the fastest froyo so far. On my phone about 35 hours on normal usage..
Oh, I would like to have Gingerbread firmware, I don't feel like degrading my phone back to froyo :/
That's strange cos I'm on Darky's v10.1 and it's the best I've found so far. Battery is lasting me about 16 hrs on average, depending on what I use it for. Day to day use of calls, lots of texts, some internet and some pics can see 16hrs.
There is always this option: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1930mAh-REPLACEMENT-BATTERY-SAMSUNG-I9000-GALAXY-S-/250807245269?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3a6546d9d5
Well, I guess it depends on what you use it for - but it's not enough for me. And I heard this battery isn't making much difference...
Ok, thanks for letting me know about the battery replacement. I was considering one of them for myself
Hey, unsure if this will interest you or not, but I use Juice Defender ultimate and it is absolutely amazing!
Depending on your usage (much of the time my phone is idling) and whatever settings you set, this app will make your battery last a very long time.
I've just check my phone's battery usage and after 15 hours I'm still on 78% battery.
Obviously these figures would change dramatically with more usage but just thought there wasn't any harm in letting you know about it if you didn't already know. 8)
PS: I'm using Darky's ROM v10.1.
I have the following ROM and battery consumption is very low. Try it and comment.
PDA: I9000XWJVH
Phone: I9000BUJV3 from BUJV9.
CSC: I9000OXAJVK
KERNEL :Voodoo test 6.0 de supercurio.
If you prefer, you can change the CSC file for another.
Greetings.
juwe's rom, always wifi on, with aggressive use more than 1 day,
moderate use 2 days
only calls and sms more than 2 and a half day!
try "Advance task killer" app
keep it to stop all program when screen off
and you will see the battery, better than before

Usual battery drain

Hi,
So I bought an Anker 1800mah battery about two months ago, thought that would improve battery life.
Thing is, even though I own the I9000 a very long time, I don't know how battery life should be.
So my question is...
For example, if I have data and GPS on and screen on, is it normal that I get 1% drain every 1.5-2 minutes?
Using ICS CM9.

Turn gps off and set brightness to around 20%. You should then lose 1% roughly every 3:30 - 4:00 minutes.
Weird I lose 1% every 10 min sometimes more

Hi all,
First, from what I remember, my old battery acted somewhat the same. Also, I used it for a year and a half, and have totally destroyed it because of all the calibrations. By a calibration I mean draining the battery to 0%, charging to 100%, doing it about 3-4 times... Only later I have learned that it is not healthy to the battery to do that so many times. That's why I only did this 3 times with my new battery (Manufacturer instructions).
Now, thing is, I gave the example with the data and GPS on and screen on because I used GPS for navigations a lot of times. So, I can't turn off GPS. About the brightness, its set to automatic all the time, so I see no reason to modify it myself.
I'm currently using CM9 Blueberry edition but I'm planning to change to JB in a few days. Even though I doubt it, any chance battery life will improve with JB?
Latrop, with the same settings? Having data + GPS + screen on all the time (10 min)? Are you sure?
Mine did not sure bout yours

It all depends what you use your phone for, It's no problem to drain your battery in 3 hours while playing power hungry games. So screen on time does not say much. It highly fluctuates depending what's running on your device. On average KitKat gives you a little longer battery then lollipop
Ok
i dont have any game on my note
regular use... Whatsapp, mail...

After flashing a rom (stock or other) the phone will be hot and that can have a huge affect on battery life if you try to test it straight after that. Give it a full discharge and recharge, check to see if your mobile coverage is weak too as that can affect battery a lot no matter what rom you are on. Especially if you use apps like WhatsApp, which try to get push messages from a weak signal area.
In my case lollipop gives more screen on time , around 6 hours and 16hrs life in total .Where as the KitKat standby time is better . Really depends on usage , but 3 hours SOT only in Whatsapp and mails is pretty bad
Install better battery stats or wake lock detector , de-bloat unwanted system apps and flash a custom kernel and tweak CPU profiles .. I am sure u will churn out 5+hrs SOT after fine tuning . Good luck !
On my lollipop before i had only 3 hours screen time and my battery will be under 20% after 9 hours usage. Now i downgraded to kitkat, as you can see i got a suberb battery life. Playing CoC, facebook, viber, emails, calls, and browser. And my phone was only charged at 90% when i unplugged it. Im in the office most of the time, cant play on the phone often

Have you tried turning off the features of your phone that you don't use like Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi connectivity and the mobile data usage.
