For those of you wanting the recovery file for AT&T either because your phone has stopped working while rooting or just to keep yourself covered, here you go. Credit to @br3w3r as he spent a lot of time last night helping me get this done when my phone stopped working.
YOU MUST USE THE ODIN FILE LINKED HERE. ANY OTHER WILL NOT WORK.
Trying to use any other will result in a model mismatch failure.
Download the June firmware here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24572369242688242
Necessary version of Odin - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24572369242688248
Credit to @Venom0642 for the updated links!
Standard process. Open Odin, put your phone in download mode, select the firmware as AP, hit start and let Odin do it’s thing. Saved my bacon when I got stuck with an issue last night.
very much appreciated, i couldnt update due to being on a different carrier then at&t. Im still on the original firmware when the phone came out.
I get a "download failed because of file system errors." I'm trying to download it on my tablet.

I'm interested also if Samsung pay will work after a restore, but since my bank still isn't part of it and I have root now, I'm not interested enough to try it lol.

Yeah, my bank isn't fond of these types of payment methods either. And honestly, pulling out my phone is no easier than pulling out my wallet. And my wallet won't shatter if I drop it fumbling around. Either way, same amount of steps. It's a cool novelty but that's about it (to me personally). But if anyone does test it, I'll definitely update the post to say definitively one way or the other for those who love Samsung Pay.

I would wait for someone to post one specific to the 930A. This is for the 935A and as far as I know they're not interchangeable. So I would wait for a post on the 930A (which I'll do if I find firmware for one and someone verifies it works), or wait for someone to verify this worked on theirs.

Like the other person, I am on a different carrier and still on the release firmware due to AT&T not sending the OTA out unless you have an AT&T SIM.

I think he means after flashing back to this firmware. I have seen other users posting that it seems to result in Samsung Pay working but haven't seen anyone claiming to have actually used it. I'll update the OP once someone states they got it to function at a store after flashing back to stock.
So far, having root for certain disables it unless @sy7hf7tgtgrf found a method that no one else has yet.

Haven't tested at a store yet but will try to soon. I am on the stock firmware you uploaded so no root here.
I've noticed that somethings aren't fully working correctly though.
A lot of AT&T's modifications seem to be missing.
For one I can't really setup my Visual Voicemail now, and some sections in device settings are a bit different.
Pretty sure all is fine though.

It actually had the opposite effect for me funnily enough on VVM. I never was able to get it working after buying the phone and it was a pleasant surprise to find it working on this firmware. It had always given me an error about contacting AT&T because it seemed my plan didn't support it (though it did). Never followed up though as I very rarely use the phone for calls. Also was happy to see a toggle for LTE was added instead of having to dig in the settings to turn it on or off! All the stock AT&T apps seem to be there for me, though I'm not sure on the modifications. It's noticeably faster in Geekbench than it was the day I bought it, which leads me to believe maybe this is indeed stock, but before AT&T messed with it much. I hope you can get VVM working. But do keep us posted on the results of Samsung Pay in store!
MUST use the files linked. Saved my A$$ so listen to him...hahaha!

Yes it does. Running it now. I used the OTA from telus (rooted) but you can also use dannorom. I prefer a official. Update just to ensure everything works so far can't find a glitch.

Nope I used all 3 I just like different load screens I'm kinda weird. Remember these are not rooted. So you still have to go to that process if your tablet or phone is a virgin. Personally I just downloaded goo installer from the Google store . and updated to the DannoROM that 1 takes care of the root problem and gives you a custom operating system
And so far I haven't found 1 glitch. Camera works, GPS works, the only problem I can find is the 1 everybody's talking about on the forum. and that's only if you have Asim card. personally I just use the data off my phone. No need to pay 25 dollars for only 1 gigabyte of data.
Sent from my SGH-I957 using XDA Premium HD app
Root is very easy to achieve on the official built. The difference between official and Danno is battery life, which has been for me, at least 25℅ greater on official.
Just want to let you know - I followed instructions precisely - when odin went to the "modem" stage I received "fail" status. Then rebooted expecting to have a brick as a result. And to my surprise - tablet got updated. So far everything works and tablet looks much much better.
I have I957 ATT and used Bell's download.

I am rooted using CHAIN Fire's CF AUTOROOT - the trick is you have to use the Latest ODIN - 3.10.6 I think - here is a link

Donf use the ODIN that comes with CF Auto Root unless he has updated it to the one I have linked to here. THis is the only one that works that I know of.

I saw that too but I didn't know what it was and wasn't sure what would happen if I didn't accept it - so I did - maybe I should forget it? What could it be?
I haven't figured it out yet. I denied it until I know what it is. Also has to manually freeze and remove all the Knox crap, SuperSU didn't ask me to disable it...
If we root, will Knox be tripped if we don't install it?

Yes, it will trip your Knox counter.
That brings me to a question I had, hopefully @Chainfire can answer. ..
After root, supersu didn't ask me to deactivate Knox; why? is it safe to go and freeze or remove all the Knox crap?
Unfortunately I'm waiting until I hear more information on Knox in regards to Samsung Pay. I know Chainfire and others mentioned the possibility of it needing an un-tripped counter, but until we know for sure I'm staying un-rooted (which is killing me).

I think he was saying the logic of 'you never had it, therefore you won't miss it if you don't get it' was stupid. Whereas you were being a little more gracious saying it was 'interesting' logic. In all honesty, it is a ridiculous argument. Of course you will 'miss' features that the phone should include if you lose them due to root. Even if you would not have used the feature, it still is a missing feature, just one you personally do not care about.

Root after Update?
I received the S6 two days ago. It came with Android Ver. 5.0.2 and there was an update available as soon as I activated the phone. I have not yet taken it. Has anyone taken this update and then rooted successfully?
It seems that many 925A'ers are not leaving this forum to find out that YES, we have root! The unnecessary questions, comments, doubts are starting to pile up, so maybe this is the best way to ensure everyone knows that YES (again), we have root. To be 110% clear....... this was developed by @idler1984, NOT me, so thank them - all credit goes to them, I'm just trying to keep the 925A forum cleared up if at all possible!
ENJOY!
EDIT - and because someone asked........ Root has been achieved for both OCE and the 5.13.15 OE2 update
EDIT 2 - and because more people can't read, you CANNOT root anything past May 15th builds, so none of the OF_ updates, nothing that comes out after May 15th, so don't update unless you want to lose root! The information is all there in the thread linked above, if you don't read, you don't have anyone to blame but yourself!
Good job. Was thinking of doing the same.
omg thank you. by the way that first quote was mine sorry. and i did search to no avail. thanks a bunch for clearing this up. and ill try to be more thorough with my search next time.

Okay, that makes sense then, OC9 instead of what I thought you were talking about, "OE9" which I guess does not exist (yet?)
They skipped that one because OE2 is out and there's no need to get the build in the middle developed, from what I can tell.... I've been wrong before though! Just hit your software update and get OE2 then root that, it has the most updates we're going to see before 5.1.1 comes out next month (still more speculating, but that's an informed guess this time based on lots of reading up on the new Galaxy from across the web)

Full story:
New bootloader blocks downgrading, be careful installing 5.1.1 OTA!
Kernel built after May 15th (including some 5.0.2 and all 5.1.1) have this bug fixed. Be cautious when installing OTA these days and FlashFire might be your best shot of upgrading systems. Use Odin to unroot and receive OTA if you want.

Wow what a blunt reply. Anyway I have also been probing the far corners of the clearweb for a root on this device. No luck. PingPong root doesn't support it, SRSRoot says that it rooted the phone, but it doesn't actually work. I'm not going to try to flash a rom with odin cause i need to keep the data on it. Lmk if you find anything out. Peace.
I believe the next logical step would be to try reverse-engineering parts of the new kernel and look for exploitable bugs, rather than looking for work done on the subject by other individuals and attempting to classify them as the same thing.

I wouldn't even know where to begin with that, bit outside my technical expertise. Is it something you are familiar with? Or can you point me in the right direction?
Can I downgrade from the PD6 OTA? I am running 100% official. I see there are no tools for rooting 6.0.1, but can I odin down to a version of 5.1.1 that I can root? It's been a while since I have done that, and IIRC sometimes it's impossible to downgrade once you have upgraded. I don't care about Knox or Samsung Pay, losing those is fine.
Thread jacked! Haha
I heard you can, man. Check that 'Root 5.1.1 with a snag' thread that Metalcated started.
I think somebody mentioned you can. Usually you can't - you're right - but I don't think this bootloader was enforcing it. Worse comes to worst it'll just fail to ODIN it and you're stuck. No real risk of bricking. :good:

I wouldn't even know where to begin with that, bit outside my technical expertise. Is it something you are familiar with? Or can you point me in the right direction?

I mean, a good hex editor would be a start.
Maybe like IDA Pro? I love IDA :3
You could probably scope out some good Android disassembly tools if you look.
Maybe checking the AOSP code itself?
Maybe look into the Android system images that you can download with the SDK?
Not sure. A bit out of mine too, but definitely an area of interest.

Will be trying this on my G920A soon. (PD6)
Short answer: No.
Long answer: it's not public yet. I saw many people in other forums talking about a private method that allows them to root G920A 6.0.1 and untethered (unlike the one we have right now for 5.1.1). I do not have the files and I don't know if it's going to be released to the public. I hope one of the insiders leaks it soon because I don't wanna upgrade to 6.0.1 without root.

On XDA or some other site? And I wonder if the update I got last night (CPF1) would break that..

Not happening unless we get a leaked engineering bootloader from someone with connections to AT&T.

And how might one go about acquiring such private info? DM me please if you're in the know. Much appreciated.
Stay safe my friends. Stay •free•!
Not to jump on the "me too" train, but I'd like to know as well.

Peace.

Thanks for this I was actually able to use this after trashing my device trying to downgrade the software. It was a mess, LOL.

The thing I wasn't sure of was the differences in versions so I just took a shot (110) and after clearing the cache got it booted up again.
does the bootloader need to be unlocked for this?
i just got a replacement under warranty and its stuck on 109....the one that broke was 112
New comment!
Since the OP apparently is MIA, and since I'm kind of in the first few posts, I'm editing this to provide the latest links for which we in this thread have our hands on, in hopes that a helpless, suffering, wandering soul who may want/need it, sees it.
Other firmwares may be around if you ask.
Also, provide if you have some love to share, since i hear FF also gave up on the A09, presumably to be in tune to Huawei's contempt.
I dunno. Whatever. That's what a community such as this is for.
We also exist here, so check it out if you don't find whatchamacallit here
Thanks to my guide @ante0, for instilling in me a desire to help just like he's helped so many (i read a whole lot by you, even when i hardly ask you things! ...although I'm world's behind his knowledge, to be sure lol!
Thank you, @nabril15, for being a real "mate" on this hobby of ours, refreshing to see someone who comes for what brought them here, and stays afterwards to help in every and any thing they can.
I know, i sound like a just cooked a rom or developed the greatest app yet, but if i didn't say it now, when? xD
Lastly, don't forget to thank (thumbs and, if within your means, why not? a beer or latte) the guys who most immediately make this possible, @Pretoriano80, @zxz0O0 and @topjohnwu

For any flashing yes you do, there's a way to somehow make it recognize there's an update manually but you would have to search for that as i don't exactly recall how, and that way you wouldn't need to unlock bootloader

How can I do it without unlocking the boot loader?Pls can u tell me the method?I have search everywhere but didn't find it.
Does anyone know how to flash the VERSION.img file? I was able to flash the system partition however the phone still prompts for a software update, had to manually modify the local.prop file in /version/special_cust/BLA-A09/hw/usa/prop.

nope, hopefully soon we are included in the bimonthly updates as well. crossing my fingers but pessimistic.
Kinda bummed how Huawei went from being on the ball with updates to suddenly falling behind.

What do you expect when the government keeps blocking them from doing business in the US?

yeah, it's unfortunate but likely the case. It's the user/customer that has to suffer in the end. Spying via smartphones is done in the US as well. I that case we shouldn't have to worry
BBIWY
Hopefully will keep supporting their US versions, or send one update to change the version to European, thereby making it one less version to work on.
I know, it's not something they'll do..but

Is ridiculous when you think about it. Motorola is owned by Lenovo which is a Chinese company and US government gives them a pass.
Does anyone know, if you were to buy the INTERNATIONAL version of the Mate 10 Pro (Amazon) yeah, no U.S. warranty, would it get the updates faster than the actual U.S. version?
I'm thinking about getting the international version, since it has the bands for at&t (which I use via straight talk).

You should at least be able to rebrand to get updates. I wish I had done that. It will definitely get updates faster, maybe not the latest one. But better than none.
The US brand phone is still great without the latest updates. I'm not a gamer and I can do without face unlock
I'm not a gamer either, but, I'd like to have the security patches within a few weeks instead of months after release. Yeah, I know, you want instant updates, get an Apple or Pixel...but I see the Huawei patches released pretty much LAST for the U.S. versions of their phones.
I'm hoping after Treble is the "normal", patches will be pushed by Google, not the manufacturers or carriers.
