Hi guys. I am looking to purchase the s2 9.7 817-V from Verizon. A little surprised no one has mentioned this particular model, mainly the V, which probably pertains to Verizon? Thank You.
If you buy that device, forget about any kind of customisation.

Unless beaups gets one, there is no hope for doing anything root/mod/ROM related because of the locked bootloader that only Vzw and Att still do
*&(%$&*. Wish I would have known this a week ago....

Hey guys. i am picking up used galaxy tab 7 from craiglist tomorrow for 150 used. I have one guy selling a verizon version and one guy sprint version. I will be using just the wifi and use my evo as hotspot. my questions are..are there any difference between verizon and sprint version? also which one is easier/friendlier to root?thanks
Greetings,
I am in the market for a tablet and I am considering the Galaxy Tab 8.9. AT&T in the US is offering a deal where if you buy and activate an AT&T locked 8.9 Galaxy Tab you get a free Samsung Galaxy S2 or S2 Skyrocket.
Here are my questions:
1. What are the benefits or drawbacks from buying the AT&T branded and locked Galaxy Tab 8.9 versus the unlocked Galaxy Tab as shown here on Expansys: http://www.expansys-usa.com/samsung...16gb-android-tablet-black-850-1900-3g-223265/
2. Is the AT&T Galaxy Tab easy to unlock and use sim cards from other countries when traveling abroad?
3. Are there any other differences hardware wise between the AT&T Galaxy Tab and the one in the link above? I cannot find any and have checked multiple sites for information.
4. Would it be possible to flash the rom of the unlocked Galaxy tab to the AT&T Tab?
Any help or opinions greatly appreciated!
I will try to answer you the best I can.
1. AT&T version is faster and newer from my knowledge, but with far less developmental support. ATT supports 4g and LTE while the old tabs only do 3g and wifi. The older generation tablets have good developmental support with an ICS port in development. No custom ROMS at the moment for the ATT version.
2. No experience here, sorry.
3. The old tabs have tegra2 chips, while the ATT version uses qualcomm (snapdragon) chipsets. ATT is 1.5ghz while the 3g one is 1ghz. Both dual core. ATT battery capacity is ever so slightly larger as well. ATT version is 2 grams heavier (lol). The ATT one is considered snappier and more responsive from what i hear, but if the 3g one receives ICS then they could be comparable. The ROMS and Kernels from the older tabs are not compatable with the ATT LTE one. The closest thing to the ATT tablet is the Galaxy S II Skyrocket.
4. ATT Tab is only rooted at the moment through a custom kernel. No CWM or ROMS yet.
Hope this helps, and if I am wrong anywhere someone correct me. Thanks.
Thanks for your help that was very informative! I am still curious about the unlock on the AT&T version though because I travel a lot. Anyone else have any ideas about unlocking the AT&T Tab? I did several searches but could not find specific information for the AT&T version. Thanks.

2. It's unlockable online.

Has the question about unlocking solved? I was looking at the tablet too and wanted to find a way to unlock it? Is there a way to do it after rooting it? I don't want to buy it from one of those unlock website.
I bought a Galaxy Note from Telus yesterday, and I'm trying to figure out how I can root it and perhaps install the CM9 alpha since the official ICS rom isn't out for it yet. I'm not really sure where to start, however, as the kernel version in About Phone shows as 2.6.35.11. No letters.
This is my first Samsung phone, as I've historically been an HTC user, so please be gentle. I have plenty of experience with flashing HTCs, but Samsungs seem to be a bit different.
Edit: oops, looks like I should be in the (yuck) AT&T Galaxy Note forums over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1493 .
Since you have one of these Telus Galaxy Note can you tell me how much carrier "crap" is on it? Here in the US AT&T loads the phone with a lot of crap and custom apps, also start logos etc. I don't like that and I remember buying in the past a droid from Telus and had no crap on it. Thanks

I have no bloatware on mine (that I can tell), there is a Telus start-up screen when powering on though.

Literally on my way to purchase a LTE Galaxy Tab S2 but don't know if I should get the Verizon or Tmobile version. I want the Verizon one but if it can't be rooted without losing LTE, then I will settle for the Tmobile version.
Anyone wants to chime in? I did a quick search but didn't find a clear, straightforward answer.
TIA!

Damn, I don't know it. I ordered it in-store and it should be delivered eitehr tomorrow or Tuesday. I guess I will keep my fingers crossed that I get a model that is rootable.
Seeing that the Tab S2 for Verizon is not rootable because of the locked bootloader, I have decided to return it and ordered the Asus Zenpad Z10 instead.
I see that the Asus Zenpad Z8 has already been rooted, so i expect the Z10 will probably be rootable as well.
Now I'm wondering if the Tab S2 was a better buy all things considered, over the Zenpad Z10.

I'm interested in purchasing a Note 8 and would like to know which one is more flash friendly for someone living in the US. I'd like to be able to root and flash custom roms. Is unlocking the bootloader even an option on any Note 8?
I tried searching for a thread on this and was unable to find one. Right now I'm using an AT&T mvno and have my eyes on the unlocked refurb Note 8 on Amazon for $699.
Thanks in advance!
You really need to sharpen your searching skills then.
