Since i've upgraded to Android 6 i think my phone has begun using battery faster than before. But i was wondering if we will see Stamina mode return in an update from Sony?
And are there any official statements about us getting the next big Android (7 / N) ?
Probably it will,STAMINA mode is in the beta firmwares currently.
I don't see a reason why it wouldn't be included
Stamina mode is available in MM beta, I think. No word on Android N release, but Z3 has some developer preview builds available.
I believe Stamina mode in the new betas was merely just a renamed low battery mode feature, not the actual stamina mode from Lollipop/Kitkat
STAMINA mode will return but it will not be the same as on KitKat or Lollipop. AFAIK it's very similar to what's available on Lollipop as "low battery mode". So we will still have to depend mostly on Doze. But the incoming builds have loads of improvements and fixes so I believe the battery life will be improved. Remember that .570 and .575 builds which are officially available now, are very early builds of MM.
No official statements about Android N, only Developer Preview available for our big sister - Xperia Z3.
Yes, Staminda mode will return but not in it's old shape, some devices is already getting it:

You can read more about it here:

Personally I use an app called forcedoze, it makes some adjustments to Doze to make it more similar to Stamina Mode

About Android N Sony already did release a alpha preview for Sony Xperia Z3 (not for the compact version thought) so hopefully that means we will get Android N too

I have a very strange problem with my phone. Since i updated to Android L 5.0.2 ( today ) on my Xperia Z3 Compact the smart call handling feature stopped working. I tried turning it off and on a few times, i tried rebooting the device a few times still no luck. Does anybody have any idea why and how to fix this issue ? I can't find anything related to this problem...
The phone is complete stock. The bootloader is locked. I've never unlocked it. I used to have PhilZ custom recovery on KitKat and now i obviously don't (same goes for root) .
p.s. I must say Sony has done some great work on Android L. I can't understand why people complain so much about it on the forum. I like it better than KitKat.
The Solution
I found a fix.
What i did was :
1. Turn off the feature ( from Settings )
2. Restart the phone
3. Turn on the feature.
4.Restart the phone again.
Oh and I found 1 con of Android L. The battery usage is a bid dull. On Kitkat it showed the number off days passed after charging. Now it shows a graph with dates, so i guess you have to count the days by yourself which isn't that easy as it sounds and personaly i think it's a stupid idea.
Hey guys,
I've just received my new Moto X XT1052. I've just unlocked the bootloader, and am now thinking about what to do. It's currently on Lollipop 5.1
I would like to put either Cyanogenmod 12.1 or Gravity Box onto it, but I can't decide on which one.
Gravity Box is good because it goes over the stock Moto rom, and I'd still be able to have the fun little tweaks that Motorola created for it, such as twist for camera etc...
Cyanogen would be good because it has functions that GB doesn't have, such as long-pressing back to force quit, number of home screens, and a few other things that are missing from GB.
Does anyone know a way of installing Cyanogen but retaining the Moto apps?
Also, do you recommend I stay with Lollipop? Or should I downgrade to Kitkat 4.4.4 (or thereabouts)
Many thanks!!
You cant have both CM and Moto apps.
But Moto Camera Mod can be flashed i think. AC Display can be used as Moto Display. Moto Voice cant be! There are 3rd party apps but nothing can be equal to stock app.
Also I prefer to be on Stock kitkat as the standby was good with it.
stock 4.4.4 +GB works best for me, may be Viper4Android for sound. That's all I need on my Xstock 4.4.4 +GB works best for me, may be Viper4Android for sound. That's all I need on my X
I'm on CM 12.1 now. The only unique Stock-feature what's missing are Voice Commands. "twist" for camera, "chop" for Torchlight, hand wave and pick-up for active display works.
The battery drain seems to be better in the latest nightlies (27/28.10.), but still not what i expect.
KK is no option for me, cause the Holo-design looked really ugly.
Holo-design? My battery life at the moment is terrible, maybe getting 6 hours from one charge?
If active notifications no longer work, how would I be notified since there's no notification light?

The designlanguage before Material (Android 4.0 ICS - 4.4 KitKat = Holodesign; since 5.0 Lollipop = Materialdesign)

Ok, thats really bad. With latest CM 12.1 nightlies I get about 4 hours SoT and about 16 hours mixed use. So it's enough for an average day in my life.

active notifications are available in CM 12.1! It is called Ambient display an has almost the same functions.
Could I get ambient display with cyanogenmod 11?
Thabks for your answers
there are some Apps in the store which promise features like Ambient display, but I haven't testet them. And I never used CM 11.
I have a Developers Edition, XT-1055, US Cellular. It is unlocked and rooted. And running Lollipop 5.1.
Just love it. So much better than Kitkat. Great battery life. No problems, just the annoyance of Lollipop from time to time. Sometimes I have to 'Forget' or is it "Unpair" my BT connection with my speaker, and then pair it again to restore the volume level. And I don't like "improved" feature(s) to set my phone to quiet or vibrate modes. Kitkat was much more intuitive in that aspect.
With TWRP installed, I can do a full backups of the phone.
The phone portion is better/easier to do, but less intuitive; as in easier touch functions but more touches to do a phone call. But the voice commands really scream with Lollipop. Motorola has it right. Recognizes my voice and commands, nearly flawless! So much better that when I was using KitKat. Great with driving. Now, if I could just remember those commands!! LOL!
Good luck with your decision.
I have an XT1053 Developer Edition, unlocked bootloader, TWRP, etc, and I run stock 4.4.4. mainly because of the battery life and the sensitivity of the Active Display feature. My second choice would be Nexus Experience ROM (NX) because it incorporates almost all of the special stock features of the Moto X, and it has a very stock experience. The only reason I don't use it is because the Active Display isn't as sensitive and I have to move the phone more to activate that feature. It's a small thing but I'm very picky. I may get over it and move to NX eventually.
As far as battery life goes, on 4.4.4 I unplug at 7am and by 10:30pm I usually have 50% battery left, sometimes more. However, I'm a Nazi when it comes to keeping unnecessary background processes from hogging power and/or using mobile data. But even when I watch videos and play music carelessly I've never been in the red. I don't even own a car charger. I can't speak about the battery life on NX ROM because I didn't use it that long.
I'm still considering moving to NX as I'm writing this... I may do a fresh backup of 4.4.4 and run NX today to see how it goes.
Edit: Btw, NX ROM for the Moto X 2013 is 5.1.
Guys,
I also made the mistake to upgrade from my fine working lollipop 5.1.1 to marsh-batterydrain-mallow.
I have a sony z3 compact D5803 and all I want is the following:
- install an unbranded STOCK 23.4.A.1.264 lollipop 5.0.1 firmware again (preferably a Dutch one) on a clean internal storage (so I would like to erase everything on the z3 compact).
I already looked on the forums of course, like here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706
But I don't see the option to completely wipe all the data including this f* marshmallow and install a clean non-rooted lollipop tutorial. Anybody here willing to help?
First of all it is not 'normal' that you battery performance is worse on MM. You may consider doing a clean flash and give it another try.
You can downgrade with the instructions in the link you indicated (do not forget to back-up your data). Actually Flashtool itself includes the links to all (?) firmwares that are available. The Nordic, US and German unbranded firmwares work well in the Netherlands (they also include the Dutch language pack). If you tick all the items inside the "Wipe" box, MM will be removed.
+1
Battery on MM is as good or better than LL, so if you are experiencing strange battery drain, then it's worth investigating to find the cause, rather than give up and go back to an older build.
BBS is your friend and the folks on the thread there will be happy to help with any wakelocks you don't understand.
Google Play Services is usually the culprit, have a look under settings/battery/battery usage. If Play Services is in the top 5 then that's your problem.
Problems with Google Play services are usually caused by location services or syncronisation errors on your Google account. Have you looked at your account sync status in settings? anything with an exclamation mark?
It might be something as simple as not logging into Chrome that's causing it to try and sync repeatedly, over & over, draining your battery. Turn Google sync off for a couple of days and see if the battery drain goes goes away?
Have you changed your password recently? I had this happen to me after changing my password, I had to delete my account, force stop play services, wipe data for play services, boot to recovery wipe dalvic/cache. When I rebooted phone I added account again with new password. Solved.
The location services bug seems to have disappeared since MM.
This isn't a rom problem
Well i actually don't agree. A lot of people are complaining that mm is worse than lp regarding battery life. The stamina mode in lollipop does wonderful things.
I first completely formatted my phone and then used flashtool to flash back to lp 5.1.1 and my battery life is perfect again

Why ask for help if you're going to just give up?
I am getting 4 days between charges on my MM build.
I actually already gave up on mm before I started this thread. I wanted to get rid of mm.
Are you using mm on a sony z3 compact? How much screen-on time do you get on a full charge then? On lp I easy get 4hrs plus with heavy usage. On mm I barely managed to get 3hrs with heavy usage
Hi Z3+ users,
I am curious as to which version of Firmware is best for this device in terms of battery life with acceptable camera (heat) performance. I bought my device about 2 months back and I upgraded immediately to MM. But now since I have given my phone for repair (cracked screen) have an opportunity to start afresh.
Please do let me know if I should downgrade to lollipop ROM or stick with the latest and greatest.
Thanks.

I have found that [32.2.A.0.224] with kernel that allows root,dm-verity,RIC disabled is the best right now. :good: It gives (for me) the best overall experience
If you want to control what apps work or don't work in Stamina Mode, stick with Lollipop. Although it's in Marshmallow, it doesn't function the same as the one in Lollipop. There is no control over what apps work or don't work in Marshmallow Stamina Mode.

Thats not true, you can define what apps should be optimized and which are not. Those which are not optimized dont get restriked from Stamina. There is just only one list for choosing apps within googles Battery Optimization and those settings are used by Stamina too.

I believe the options for app selection in Battery Optimization are intended for Android Marshmallow's Doze feature only. May you link a source from where it says or demonstrates that the apps chosen in Battery Optimization are used by Stamina Mode?
I have been using a moto z3 play since its launch, and it has been a solid phone. However, it has stopped receiving updates, I am stuck on Android 9 when it was supposed to receive up to Android 10.
The stock ROM is acceptable, but the lack of a system-wide dark mode, the constant lag/freezing, and the lack of customization options has made me think about flashing a custom ROM. I am not a heavy user, I use my phone for basic tasks and play light games from time to time.
Right now I have two options for custom ROM:
1.- Resurrection Remix 7 Official (based on Android 9): ROM that I have used before in different devices, I know perfectly well for its almost unlimited customization options and excellent battery life thanks to the Pixel+ custom kernel. However this ROM will not receive any updates either.
2.- Android 11 GSI: I have been listening to the wonders of the GSI, however, personally I have never installed one, it catches my attention because it is the latest version of Android but I do not know how it will react with my low-end device (Snapdragon 636).
Could you help me decide which one is better or if there is a better option that I have not considered?
