Alright, this is the deal, I bought a Motorola XT701 from Amazon, international unlocked version which is supposed to work with HSDPA 850 MHz 3G radio, which is the one that Kolbi ICE (Costa Rican carrier) uses for their GSM 3G data same as AT&T, however, the phone doesn't seem to be recognizing the 3G network, it just displaying the "E" for EDGE at the top, I have seeing the G (GPRS) a couple of times, but I have never been able to get the 3G network to be recognized, this is what I have done:
* Went to Kolbi and activated the 3G data for my phone, confirmed they support this phone.
* After noticing that my phone was not connecting to the 3G network, I took out my SIM and stick it in a iphone 3G and worked like a charm it was super fast on the 3G network, I put it back in my phone and just connects to the EDGE network.
* Entered in the phone *#*#4636#*#*/ phone information and it says that: GPRS service: Connected, Network type: EDGE
* For the option to Set preferred network type: GSM auto (PRL) is the only option that seems to work right
* When I press the menu button under "phone information" screen I get one option that says "Select radio band" when I select this option I get a window poping up saying "Set GSM/UMTS band, I get many different options but the "Automatic" option is the only one that lets me select, all the other options (including USA Band) I get set [xxx Band] Unsuccessful
* I made sure that the option for "Use only 2G networks" is NOT checked
* Made sure APN settings are the right ones (Name: ice3g, APN: kolbi3g, MCC: 712 (preset), MNC: 01 (preset))
My phone is currently running 2.1 eclair and is rooted.
I DO NOT WHAT ELSE can it be done, if I take my SIM card and put it in another 3G phone works just fine that tells me that the problem is not with my provider, so I have the following questions:
How can I check which band is my phone using for data?
Is there a way to make my phone use the 850 MHz data 3G instead of others?
PLEASE HELP, I love the phone but I want to use the 3G data, if not possible I will have to get an iphone (not my first option).
thank you,
Marco
You're positive that you didn't buy the 1700/2100 mhz model?
Sent from my Milestone XT720 using XDA App
The only thing I can think of if your phone is indeed not a 1700/2100 mhz model is to google "APN settings" for your particular provider. I know even unlocking my fathers Motorola Milestone (locked on Telus in Canada), my Rogers sim could not connect to 3G until I went into Mobile Networks->Access Point Names and manually wrote in the APN settings.

Thanks for the reply, I triple check the APN settings with my provider and they are pretty basic just: Name: ice3g, APN: kolbi3g, MCC: 712 (preset), MNC: 01 (preset), nothing else.....but I have an update, today for some reason the phone displayed the "H" for HSPA for about 10 min and the phone worked great for those 10 min, then.... it went back to the "E"...no idea of what is going on here.... I did not change any settings... just happened... could it be software related?
so guys i did i little checking and i found this for the xt701 3g problem on 850 network go to this http://modmymobile.com/forums/4005997-post58.html and they will explain everything you need to make it work
[Q] Unbranded unlocked Milestone cannot connect to data service on AT&T or T-Mobile
I bought a M1 off Amazon about 5 months ago. I don't have a data plan in my home country as my SIM is company provided without data. I get by with wifi most of the time. Over Christmas while in Miami, I tried my nephew's T-Mobile SIM from his HTC and I tried an AT&T SIM with $5 data - and neither would connect to EDGE or 3G. The phone could still make calls though. Anyone have any idea why that would be? I have no clue as to what region the phone would belong to -so I do not know what GSM frequencies it operates on. Motorola's website specs says that the GSM version operates on 850/900/1800/1900 MHz - and supposedly AT&T 3G operates on 850 7 1900 MHz -so I can't figure it out. Could it be something software/firmware related?
It's a APN issue if you can make calls but cannot connect to mobile data. Check your provider's APN configuration. (Just google it.)
yeah. check your apn. for stock rom and some other mods apns cant be configured automaticly
Dear xda users,
Hello everybody,i am new here an would appreciate your help.
I bought an Samsung gt-i9305 (color:Amber brown) before a month an half ago,The Rom that com with it is from Vodafone U.K.
From the beginning I experienced with it some pretty bad network issues, there could be full or half bars but the problem is that from time to time I cannot make or receive calls/text messages nor use my data connection, the signal and the net bar are seems like everything are o.k seemingly?
I use it on 3.5G without Lte and set the setting to WCDMA/GSM ,also search for my deafult carrier provider, even after 2 updates of android os and still nothing.
The problem could happen 3 hours from i power it on or during the day in randomly way(most of the times in the evening ).
The only thing that can fix it,is restart to device or if i search provide manually.
Now,i am afraid there a problem with the device and i have warranty but don't want to go to the store i bought it from, because i know they are no rush to replace devices and afraid they will open the device hardware for nothing (for the record it is not bought from Vodafone).
This brand new phone and this thing disappointment me very much,by the way there is any kind of way to connect somehow to the modem and test it,maybe by app?
If anyone has experienced this before with the amber brown model and resolved it themselves that would be great to hear, I would love to get this fixed.
Thanks in advance to everyone,
David
Had same issue and spoke to Telco and the boosted my frequency now I get full bars

Dear banjomike,
Thank you for your replay but the problem is when it happen i could do nothing with the phone is like is in "flying mode"
It is a problem with the modem? rom?
Can some one please help me on this?
Thanks...
Nobody???
Have you thought about contacting the seller ?
They may be able to offer a repair / replacement.
Dear Raistlin1158,
Trust me the store that i bought from even this multi-branches network, have no rush to replace anything, they will test maybe open it and still maybe say that all of it,is just from the rom, that what i want to thing anyway.
Still you might ask why i bought from them, cause in my country only they are sell this model.
Have you changed the rom on your phone ?
Where are you based ?
No,i did not change the rom, yet.
Since you asked,i want to change, this is one of my last option before contact the store.
The funny thing is i thought my rom is vodafone u.k,now according to sammobile i have an germany vodafone rom,it could be even if the deafult keyboard was samsung u.k?
My rom PDA is : I9305XXBLL5
i want to change it to: I9305XXBMA3 Nordic countries it is o.k?
my network work on wcdma: 850/2100, this network based on company called pelephone.
Signal is driven by the modem, you need to match the CSC to the area you live in and as you have avoided the question twice I can't help you,
Have you checked to see if the phone been blocked by your provider ?
First i would like to say thank you for trying to help me.
O.k but the problem is that from time to time I cannot make or receive calls/text messages nor use my data connection.
I do not have signal problem or no entery sign.
The phone is brand new and my provider did not blocked him because the problem is randomly.
How i can match the csc to my area? by what paremeter to 850/2100.
Sorry i make you feel that I avoided ,i am not, I live in Israel and using "pelephone" network.
Thanks again :good:

Hi,
I leave in France and updated my GT-I9305 with I9305XXBLL5 (DBT - Germany - unbrand) and have no carrier problem..
Anyway, the nordic ROMs XXBMA3 have the same modem "XXBLL5".. (GSM 1800, GSM 1900, GSM 850, GSM 900, LTE 1800, LTE 2600, LTE 800, UMTS 1900, UMTS 2100, UMTS 850, UMTS 900)
What do you have on your screen when enter *#1234# on dialer?
Download and use this, it's the top one I9305XXBMA3 labled HTD:
http://samsung-updates.com/region/?region=HTD
Do it through Odin.. 3.04 is the most stable version.
Then you should be fine
Sholem Aleikhem
I am having similar problems on that firmware when I have my phone on CDMA/GSM mode
What helps with me is to switch to LTE/CDMA/GSM mode.
Pelephone
The network started as AMPS/NAMPS in the 800/850 MHz band. In the mid-to-late 1990s it converted to IS-95 CDMA and later added CDMA2000/EV-DO capabilities as well. A UMTS network in the 850/2100 MHz bands was launched in early 2009, and serves the majority of the network's devices.

Not the same LTE frequency as GT-I9305
Only works on GSM 850 and UMTS 850/2100
First, thank you all guys from the bottom of my heart!
Dear Raistlin1158,
I must to mention that i like very much the Sholem Aleikhem
I entered to the site that you posted and i noticed that is from the network 3.
I have trust in you and if you say that it will work with 850/2100 bands i will install it but it not like Vodafone, that come with a lot of junk? again i do not understand it like you.
Now,before flashing with Odin i understand i need to "clean" my device,if i will clean it from setting it enough or i will need to wipe data and cache in download mode?
If any time in the future i will need (i hope not) the warranty and need this exact Rom i install the same and that's it?
Thanks m8
Dear kanzi83,
Thanks for the research,i also triple check the setting on my device.
When i dial *#1234# i get this screen:

Dear prosperot,

The best way for a clean flash is to wipe before and after flashing.
Before (to clean the data and cache)
After (to clean the bloatware of first operator's ROMs)
2 way for Wipe Data
wipe data (from Recovery Mode [vol up + home + power] Not Download Mode)
No need wipe cache / do wipe data only (erase data and cache)
option to do wipe Dalvik cache
*2767*3855# from the dialer (don't test it if you don't want to reset - This reset your phone when enter the last # )
n'joy

No LTE (Yet!) only 2G and 3G... Strangly when I switch to wcdma/gsm I encouter all sorts of connection problems (like dropping calls) but i am fine on lte/wcdma/gsm...
My wife bought an international version of the HTC One, and I'm unable to get the LTE to work. The most it will do is bounce between 3G and H+ on AT&T's network. I've been to the AT&T store to have a new sim card put in it, and that actually knocked the phone down to 2G speed or less, and I've only just managed to get the H+ to come back.
The phone model is 801n and shows to have LTE as an option.
LTE is available in my area and at great strength on my OneX+.
Let me know if there's any other info you may need to know.
Go to phone, enter *#*#4636#*#*
Go to phone options, and there is a dropdown menu. The option you want is "GSM/WCDMA/LTE (auto)"
If that option isn't available, you may need to do some work converting it to a US version (like the Developer Edition, or Google Play edition).
Out of curiosity, go to settings>about and post what your software number is.
You can also log into your AT&T account and look at the data plan you're on. It should say LTE. If not, they haven't properly provisioned it.

Software version is still 4.2.2 and Sense 5.0.... she bought the phone off someone who moved to the US from the UK, and we haven't checked for an OTA software update yet... mainly because my wife finds it impossible to charge the phone and it's completely drained at the moment.
I guess the simplest answer was the right one... Even though I told them repeatedly while in the AT&T store to activate LTE data on the line, checking my account online show's they did not. I suppose I'll call and sit on hold for a few hours tomorrow to get things straightened out.
Hopefully it will work fine by tomorrow evening.
After spending 2 and a half hours on the phone with AT&T account and tech support, the problem seems to be that their system will not recognize the phone as being capable of connecting to their network.... that is to say, based off the IMEI number, their system doesn't even seem to recognize what the phone even is, nor whether or not it is capable of more than 3G or HSDPA speeds.
The tech support guy tried to force the LTE on to the data plan, and he said their system wouldn't put the LTE on the plan because the phone wasn't compatible.... since the system goes off the IMEI number, he didn't think converting to an AT&T or other versions would help, because their system still wouldn't add on the LTE access...... since I assume the IMEI doesn't change with the rom, correct?
I guess it's no wonder the guy was selling the phone so cheap.
On the bright side, the OTA updates came across tonight. Jelly-Bean and Sense 5.5 are alive and kicking.
If anyone has any other ideas, I'm still looking for solutions.
I struggle to believe in all that time nobody figured out your phone is incompatible with the network.
The AT&T version of the phone exists to connect to the AT&T network, which is not the same as what the international version supports.

The hardware for the international version and the AT&T version appear to be the same.. according the phone specifications, it should be able to connect.
As far as the length of time I was on the phone with them, I went through one account specialist and one tech support specialist.. both kept wanting to try something else. And then there were a few software updates during that time period, and numerous "try rebooting the phone again" and "let me put you on hold for a few minutes."
Frequencies for each market are different. They don't want to include all frequencies because the CPU vendor qualcomm charges per frequency. There in no point to include frequencies that are not going to be used by most people of each market.

Where are you checking the specs?
AT&T network supports 1700MHz AWS and perhaps 700MHz.
International One (EMEA) is 800, 1800, 2600MHz.
Do you have another AT&T LTE phone or a friend with one? If so, swap the SIM, activate an LTE data plan on the line, verify working, then put the SIM back in the One and see if the change sticks.
That's what I would try anyway. Also, when you enter *#*#4636#*#* on the phone and go to phone info, what option is set under "Set preferred network type"?
Another thing to check is your APN settings. For that, go to settings>mobile data. The Network mode should be set to "GSM / WCDMA / LTE auto" in there. Next, click on "Access point names". Hit the menu button, and select "New APN". Here's the settings to enter:
Name: ATT Phone
APN: phone
Proxy:
Port:
Username:
Password:
Server:
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS Port: 80

Those are the settings in my HTC One Developer Edition on the AT&T network. Now it is possible that that the LTE frequency for us is not enabled on that phone. I haven't used the international software on my HTC One.
Seems to me this issue should have a somewhat simple resolution. But I'm no expert. It is possible to convert it to an AT&T or Developer Edition (which was designed to work on AT&T networks) by going S-Off, changing the model ID (MID) and customer ID (CID), and flashing the desired software (RUU file). The big difference between the Dev and AT&T versions are having the AT&T sh*tware pre-installed or not.
As posted earlier, the hardware inside is the same.

I got a Virgin Mobile HTC Desire 510 4G NoContract Cell Phone Black at Best Buy during Black Friday. If I manage to get it SIM unlocked will it work with GSM networks? Has anyone done this?
Thanks!
No. From the looks of it, the Virgin Mobile variant is a CDMA only device. So it doesn't have the hardware necessary for GSM functionality.

Hi there,
I wish to know if you could guide me through some alternative approach to unlock for HTC Desire 510 Virgin Mobile.
This is a no contract phone with Virigin Mobile USA.
I am sure it has the GSM Capabilities as well, when I looked at the usermanual, it has an option where I Can go to settings and change if only GSM or CDMA can be used.
I purchased an unlock code from another service provider online. Followed the steps. When I insert another sim card, it does not prompt me to enter the Unlock Code and the phone keeps saying Invalid Sim.
Would you guys be able to help.
Are there any other options on your phone?
On your phone, do you have any options other than: LTE/CDMA and CDMA ?
Thanks !

Ok, thank you! I know it can be unlocked, both the SIM and the boot loader, but that was not my question. The question has to do with the network. On the settings shows LTE/CDMA and CDMA; for it to work on a GSM network it would have to say something like GSM 2G, GSM 3G, GSM 4G or something like that.

I have the same question about this phone, I bought it on Cyber Monday and an Amazon Customer Agent told me that is a GSM phone. On the phone you can type * # * # 4 6 3 6 # * # * and a menu will show and you can change between some options include GSM/GPRS/LTE/CDMA/WCDMA.
Currently I'm searching the way to unlock it to use any network but still without nothing :crying:

Hello everyone.
As i didnt want to open an new topic because i found this one.
I am from Greece and i got this phone as gift from my uncle., the phone is setup at CDMA network and does not have the GSM/WCDMA setting. when i get into the *#*#INFO#*#* i can see there that i can change the network type to GSM/WCDMA/LTE but i dont know how to save it. does anyone know any method to make this one work properly?
Unlock GSM Bands
You don't have to do anything to save it. I would bet that you can change it and if you wait a little while it reverts back to CDMA. I think it reverts back because the frequencies needed for GSM/WCDMA/LTE are locked. I would recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...ad-progress-please-leave-im-updating-t2871269 and unlocking the following bands:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100
4G Network LTE 800 / 1800 / 2600
After you do that, my guess is that it will accept GSM/WCDMA/LTE. Beware that I have not done this, but that's what makes sense to me. Let us know the outcome. Good luck!

No I not finish, have a trouble with the step 10 in the tutorial, and cannot continue.
Do this:
adb shell
su
cd /sys/devices/virtual/android_usb/android0/f_diag
echo 1 > on

Windows should automatically try to find the drivers... if it does not use the drivers on the original post. If windows finds the drivers you should have a new Com port and you can go to step 14.
