HTC One Remix from Verizon, I think it's soft bricked - HTC One Mini 2

Apologies. I posted this first in another forum, but this appears to be the correct place for it, and I think I just messed up trying to post to this forum.
Hopefully this isn't too big a question.
My phone just did this all on its own, I was just browsing the web with it. Just running whatever was on there from Verizon and HTC, not rooted or anything.
Now all I can do is get to the fastboot menu, and can do a few things there. I just tried to go to hboot then factory reset, this after trying a lot of things, and it didn't work.
It's connected to my computer, it seems to be recognized, at least by "fastboot devices" but not by "adb devices".
It shows as "***LOCKED***" and "S-ON". Everything I've found that talks about changing those requires going into the settings, setting developer mode and or usb debugging. I can't see how to do that if I can't get into the OS.
I chatted online with HTC yesterday, and they said Verizon should help. I just spoke to Verizon, and they said HTC should help. So, it looks like I get zilch from either of them. At this point I'm looking for a data recovery company, maybe someone can crack the thing open and get my photos out of it.
The irony here is that if I had rooted the phone already I likely wouldn't be in this mess. It feels like encouragement to root these devices before they inexplicably choke.
Am I screwed?
Thanks for any assistance.

it seems that you lost your OS for some reason. Data recovery would be a waste of time since you already reset the phone anyway so if you didn't use an SdCard then bad luck.
If you dont wanna send you phone for repair, your best option its to ROOT and install a Verizon software yourself.
NOTE: if you had an SdCard and also got deleted, just use any data recovery program to recover most of the files
NOTE: do a bit of search about recovery programs as they might also access you phone if rooted. maybe one in Google play store?

If your primary concern is data, my guess is you would be wasting time even with recovery software, all those I have tried have successfully recovered images half black, half missing etc.

[Q] I want to make sure I have this right

Sooooo I came up on a T-Mobile G1 from a buddy of mine. A little beat up but after 3 and a half years with a t-mo wing it's about time to upgrade my old phone for a not so old phone. Went through the effort and went through my buddy @ likenewcells.com to get the thing unlocked rather quickly I might add.
My scenario, I don't have a data plan... I have scoured the threads about how to register your G1 without a SIM or data endlessly only to be stuck at getting the adb drivers installed. One key thing I have done so far is downgrade myself to RC29 so I can confirm <enter> reboot <enter> works Yet for the life of me I have tried yelling at it, insulting it, even sending it death threats... NOTHING! hehe
Upon further reading it's mentioned that I need to root the thing first to get adb working, is that correct? I have heard the legends of a rooted phone and the fortune it brings. Unfortunately if I am unable to get past the registration screen then what am I to do? Given that all of the guides say you need to do some things on the phone. Mess with this setting, download something from a site using the browser, whisper sweet nothings in it's ear. I've read many guides in the past week on how to get adb working. One similarity is "you need root access" in them all casual like. Not bad mouthing any of the guides and what not hehe.
I appreciate any information anyone is willing to share with me regarding how to get adb working and / or rooting given my situation. I waited a while to make a post here after carefully reading and scouring the many tutorials for a solution to either. My t-mo wing is falling apart literally and I am done with it.
There is one thing that did help me think maybe just maybe is I was able to enable adb by typing <enter>setprop persist.service.adb.enable 1<enter> Unfortunately I still couldn't get the drivers installed.
Now a healthy question I feel would be is there a similar command I can type at the no sim card screen to get into my wifi settings?
Once again I thank everyone here for any info they're down to share with me.

[Q] Is it possible to "undelete" files without rooting?

Long story short, the phone was acting up a bit, I was drunk, so I went to bootloader and accidently instead of just doing proper reboot from there, I did factory reset :crying:
Is there any way to try some "undeleting" software to salvage whatever isn't really overwritten yet?
I tried couple softwares I've used to undelete files on PC with no luck, they can't see the One since it doesn't get it's own letter by the OS when connected, I also tried Wondershare Dr.Fone which is meant specifically for phones, but it can't see One either, same reason apparently.
All the apps in Google Play that should fit the bill require root, and mine isn't rooted and would rather keep it this way than root it.
3 days worth of photos & video from Ruisrock festival gone :crying:
I think you can't found your deleted file...
Yes, you can. Here's some HTC phone data recovery guide which you can try
HTC One phone data recovery
Restore photos from HTC One phone
hope this helps.

[Q] Help! Hard reset done and gallery hasn't restored.

So after encountering the annoying 505 error I did a full back up via the Backup app as sync manager on the laptop wasn't playing ball.
Did the hard factory reset and then restored from the back up file I had made 10 minutes beforehand.
Most things have restored but I went to check a picture and ALL GONE!
Things like whatsapp messages and contacts didn't restore either.
What can do to recover the lost images?
and typically none of it worked to solve the 505 error.
I know this isn't the usual standard of question on this forum but is anyone able to shed some light on my problem?
Does the HTC Backup program, back up images or is that an oversight on my part?
ok so it seems that i'm an idiot and htc doesn't back up images on an htc account back up.
I'm now trying to run my phone through recovery software (MagicCute Recovery) but the program won't recognize the phone, I guess because it's not a mass storage device and connects via MTP?
I read a guild to turn on developer mode and then turn on USB debugging but that hasn't made any difference.
If there a way to plug my phone in and the computer to recognize it as a mass storage device?

check google playstore for undelete software, plenty on there, be careful about how much you install or uninstall.
Dont know if your aware of this, but nothing is ever really deleted, its flagged as safe to be overwritten and hidden from the user, too much installing or un-installing apps will overwite the flagged images.

I am sure that when connected to a Linux machine it shows as an external drive...not sure if that helps at all ?
If what i suggest is true then you can run Linux within windows from a USB drive, but clearly your recovery software has to be a linux compatible version.
Just a suggestion rather than fact!

Currently browsing play store now, is there any you can recommend?
I wasn't fully aware of how it works but I knew I could recovery most with some nifty software. MagicCute has worked wonders in the past for me.
At least all my music is stored in music play store.
I found a PC based program to scan the phone but the phone requires to me rooted for that, although that was my main reason for joining this forum to root I'm a little apprehensive to do anything like that until I have saved my pics!
Cheers.

Someone else said they had great luck with DiskDigger Pro
Good luck!
Sorry sheppster, completely missed your reply somehow yesterday. Thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks clsa I'll give that a go once rooted.
I'm currently reading, reading watching and rewatching content on the rooting process. Very confusing for a complete and utter noob. A lot of content is spoken as if I have a clue, haha.
But I'm now registered on HTC DEV, all videos and content say to select all other supported devices due to the HTC One not being listed, but it is. I'm guessing HTC Dev has been updated since the guides were posted. Shall I click HTC One or still use other devices?
I installed Android Studio and also JDK which it asked for, but when continuing to install Android Studio I got the following message...
Is this detrimental to the use of the program or can I just continue?
Sorry this thread is going to turn into more of a rooting Q&A.
I now have sync manager working correctly and have made a back up on my laptop which I'm happier with than having something floating about in my HTC Account. So I think I'll go ahead and try unlocking my bootloader.
Well I have unlooked the bootloader now. Successfully? Not sure!
After confirming to unlock it then restarted and kept going round in circles, it's now saying "Android is upgrading" running through 253 apps. Nothing like the XDA video where it just restarts as a fresh phone.
I used the HTC One instructions from the drop down menu in the end.
Fingers crossed at the end of that it's working and I can continue to root.
Well considering I have an early start I've stayed up far too long messing around.
BUT! My phone is now rooted, I did attempt putting a venom rom on but it didn't install properly although I seem to have a large ammount of it's features here and there like being able to boot directly to bootloader or recovery from the power button.
But any way the lapcop software I had appeared to be useless, it found 603 images from various emails and programs files none on my actual pictures. I'm not running disk digger which again has found background images but still 85% left to scan.
I'm not holding out too much hope now as there's been a few files added and deleted to root and also reset again to root.
I'll update tomorrow how it went.
I didn't realise how cheap Disk Digger Pro was, so bought and ran that last night. I think it found touch under 4000 images but again mostly PNG program images.
It did manager to find 41 useful images though. It seemed to mainly pick up pictures which I had recently used on facebook, so annoyingly mainly recoverable images through facebook.
It picked up a lot of signatures from various emails and made a lot of duplicates. Not a bad effort for under 2 quid though.

Unable to access phone

I was told there was a Note 5 at work last week and told no one can use it at is broken. Up for the challenge I thought I could root it, custom rom etc etc and all would be good.
Unfortunately I think this phone may be unusable however if anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to try.
The phone was previously used by an employee who left over a year ago, went overseas and is not contactable. This same person set up the phone with their google account.
It looks like a factory reset was done to try access the phone however this presents the problem that now the phone states "this device was reset. To continue sign in with a Google account the was previously used on the account."
This means I cannot get into settings, developer mode, usb debugging. Without this I cannot root the phone as I keep getting a fail on Oden when I try load cf root. Also cannot load TWRP through Oden.
I have tried reloading the latest samsung firmware but even with this I am still asked to Verify the account before proceeding.
I've tried a bunch of hacks from various Youtube videos but it looks like Google has patched all the previous solutions.
Pretty much have hit a wall. Anyone with any suggestions (if possible) greatly appreciated.

Remove Knox or Root without debug options

Hi all. I'm new to the site, so if I'm posting in the wrong forum, please let me know. I hope someone can help.
When I left my last company, they allowed me to take my Note 9 because it was paid in full. New management came in and set up Knox MDM. Because my device was paid for by them, they added my device to Knox and put it in Kiosk mode. I can no longer do anything on it but send/receive calls. I contacted Verizon, and they said even though i pay for the service, the device is technically still owned by the company and couldn't help me. So, i'm left with either buying a new phone or asking new management to remove me from knox. They will not, so I was hoping someone knew how to remove knox, possibly through rooting the phone. However, I can't enable developer mode. When I click on the build number, i get a message saying the feature is disabled by knox.
this is just a suggestion, I'm not saying to follow it. wait for someone else to confirm it's an OK idea or a terrible one.
using a PC or even another rooted phone you could run ADB and remove Knox packages. pretty sure you can do this successfully on newer phones but with Knox ''activated'' and doing stuff I'm not sure.

Thanks for the advice. I'm good with that route, and I'm good with wiping the phone to root it. I installed ADB on my laptop and connected the phone, but it when I run adb devices, nothing is returned. I assumed it was because the phone wasn't in developer or usb debugging mode. So, I was hoping there was a way to do it without needed access to settings.
oh crap yeah, I forgot you did say that. curious do you still work for this company ?
either try doing ADB thru the recovery (never tried it, know nothing about it but it's a thing) or give a factory reset a try. the reset should at the very least kill off the companies settings though I'm not sure how much use that'll be.
flashing appropriate firmware with Odin should work for you too.

Thanks 3mel. I'll give those things a whirl. I'm not employed with them anymore, which is why going to new management isn't an option. A friend of mine still works there and they told me that management asked verizon for the device id's for the last 5 years and just put them all on knox. For them, $1/mo for a devices no longer in use by them outweighed the potential of missing devices in the wild.

Hello,
I have a similar case.
without debug mode, adb devices doesn't list any devices.
there is really no way to flash a custom ROM on this phone, without log into the old google account?
