New Remix Mini - Remix Mini General

A new Remix Mini has been announced. It apparently will have a Rockchip RK3368 CPU although all the articles I've seen on the internet say it will us a RK2268 CPU which doesn't exist as far as I can tell.
If it is the RK3368, which would make sense, this is an 8 core processor. Will this CPU run Kodi/XBMC better than the A53 Allwinner CPU in the original Remix Mini?

I would guess any app would work better though Kodi works fine on current Remix Mini. Guessing updated Mini would enable running Marshmallow OS.

Jide announces Remix Pro tablet and a new Remix mini PC
Story is at Android Police website dated June 15 2016 and I can't link it as a newer user. Part of it states though :
There's a new version of the Remix desktop gadget coming, but like the older version, its specifications aren't exactly staggering. The box will be equipped with a Rockchip 2268 CPU, either 1GB or 2GB of RAM, and just 8 or 16GB of storage space, plus whatever you can fit in the MicroSD card slot. The new version will include Wi-fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and HDMI support for displays of up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. Jide says that the updated Remix box is intended specifically for OEMs, so it might be seen under several different brand names when it comes to market.
The Rockchip RK3368 has been referenced on this forum in another thread as the CPU that will be used (the article stating a Rockchip 2268 is apparently a typo as there's no such cpu with that designation that I can find).
So it seems this New Remix Mini will appear under a different name and from different companies as it will be specifically for OEM's only and apparently not available directly from Jide for sale.

A new article from Startlr.com :
http://www.startlr.com/jide-and-rockchip-announced-the-platform-for-mini-pc-remix/
The New Remix Mini will be called the "Remix PC Box" . Partial quote from the article :
Do not have pictures of the PC Box Remix Jide but we know it has gone from Allwinner to as Rockchip chipset supplier . At the heart of the device it is in fact a recent Rockchip RK3368 octa-core 1.5GHz accompanied by a maximum amount of 2GB of memory and 16GB of eMMC storage, expandable via microSD up to a maximum of 128GB. Obviously the Rockchip SoC integrates WiFi, Bluetooth and Ethernet 10/100 modules, an I / O controller that manages two USB type-A and a PowerVR GPU SGX6110 600MHz with support for OpenGL ES 3.1 / 1.2 OpenCL / DirectX 9.3.
The most important, however, is another: with hardware accelerated video decoding of H.264 and H.265 formats HEVC, the Jide mini-PC lands within the entertainment Ultra Definition 4K .

Nope...probably not, at leased not the official kodi version
Sadly the kodi team has no love for rockchip devices (see there forum)
if you look how others solved this.. is by making a Kodi version with a external player (zdmc ) or just using old v15 or using RKMC (by rockchip)
video quality, well rockchip is not known for its smooth video...
will remixos run faster...off course, rockchip is all about horsepower and some gaming

i tested some mini consoles like the gpd xd that use rk chips.
they had ok results in gaming and emulations so it could be interesting to see how they go.

Has anyone compared their Remix Mini to any of the comparably priced Android TV boxes running Kodi?

Robin Module Shift Hardware Replacement

Just receiving my 1st Shift days ago, I am have been scouring the net to find upgrade solutions to make the Shift even better.
I came across this website that sells tiny credit card sized internal motherboards that support Linux, W7 & WM6.x for around $200 (spec below)
Assuming that you could take a broken Shift, gut it, and reassemble using a board from www.Toradex.com, is it possible to swap the internals of the Shift?
(Of course the alignment of the slots and everything would not line up, that much I know), but, for pure hobbyist sake, since these boards are very tiny could the MoBo be changed for both W7 & WM sides?
And, to spark the excitement, if I were to sponsor the board for a developer, would someone be interested in trying to makeshift this board into the shift 2? (and of course, on a scale of "ultimately to hopelessly", just how impossible is this to do?)
See boards here: http://www.toradex.com/English

My opinion is that Shift has great potential and all the HW anyone needs but its locked, disconnected and unusable at least not right now, let's focus on unlocking all the parts like SD,BT,Fullscreen,etc..
I'm in the right place.
I'm living here in China, and many of my students have access to factories which produce this sort of thing. The only difficulty is the fact that it'd be a lot of money to fund a project like remodeling the innards of a shift. It's not really something that a hobbyist could do on their own, as we're dealing with such small components.

Hi Caid, Yes, most certainly the case with cost, and more so the case with the small parts. It's a shame that these smaller formfactors are coming about, but being used in the wrong places, like a vehicle CarPC, rather than a truly cool device like the Shift.
If only there were a way to make a "Frankenstein" version of the Shift..

We received an interesting tip today about a new LG Android smartphone named Optimus 4X. While the above render is not that conclusive, the thir screenshot reveals some rather interesting hardware specifications.
If this tip turns to be in some way true, LG Optimus 4X smartphone at its 8mm thin will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, boasts a 5.3 OLED HD touchscreen (an outrages 2650×1900 pixel resolution i would say), powered by a 2.2GHz processor, Mali T-604 GPU, 2.5 MB of RAM, 64GB of ROM (built-in memory storage), 4G LTE technology (up to 75Mbps), microSD card slot up to 32GB and a 3200mAh battery.
LG Optimus 4X also could sport an 18MP camera on the back, NFC-enabled, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and more. The whole list of specs looks out of this world for an Android device but in a world where the first Android tablet runs a Quad-core CPU since 2011. Who knows what 2012 has in stored for us. Anyways take it with a pinch of salt until get any kind of confirmation.

The phone is gonna be massive?
-My life is a shooting range, people never change-
LG needs to establish itself as one of the top phone manufacturers. This is the kind of phone that would put them on top.
Sounds like somebody just added all his wet dreams into one model and then just doubled all values for good measure going "teheeheeeee". That phone is physically impossible to build atm inside a reasonably small and thing phonesized case, I'd say. Plus, a way to large jump. Why would a maker give up all the sales he can do with minute little improvements from year to year? That Mali GPU must be a wonfrous chip, if it wants to beat all other phones at 3D speed at that resolution. But who knows, maybe the pictrues are misleading and it's actually a huge brick

This reminds me of the viewsonic gtablet I got for free, rooted it with hc and then gave away for free. It had decent hardware for how old it was, but weighed enough to kill someone if you needed to use it for self defense purposes
It wasn't "the hot thing" on the market though, so custom roms for it were rare because it'd be like putting a custom paint job on a Kia... fail.
If people buy these things and there is support in the dev community out there it could be good, but I keep hearing this voice in my head thats saying "you get what you pay for".

Its not the GDDR type since that is used on graphics card and cost a fortune compared to normal DDR type.
It would be DDR2 or DDR3 but i think i read somewhere on the forums it uses DDR3
It uses the APQ8064 S4 pro, the chipset information states this in the memory section :
Dual-channel 533 MHz (8.5 GB/sec)
DDR3 it is.

There is no mention on the White paper or the User manual or the website that the RAM is DDR3, so I would not think it was (considering afaik S4Pro supports only DDR2 ram).
If the Z was DDR3 they would tout it as a feature since it would be the first DDR3 phone.
Hence my belief it is not. If you find documentation that states otherwise then let me know. But for now I will believe it is DDR2.
Either way. for the 8.5 GB/sec its either using the high-end DDR2 memory or Low end DDR3, you cant go wrong with either.

Has nothing to do with high end or low end.
It simply means that the ram is at 5xxmhz

Wrong thread.
The Xperia Z has LPDDR2 (LP = Low Power) like most smartphones today. No smartphones are using LPDDR3 today, but it is expected that Samsung will be the first (or one of the first) to use it this year (GS4 maybe?), and LPDDR4 for tablets will be on the market in 2014.

Yes, it has been confirmed that Galaxy S4 uses LPDDR3 RAM. It seems to be the first phone to use one, even though HTC One uses S600 but I read it somewhere that it uses LPDDR2. But for Xperia Z, it's a no go for LPDDR3 as the chip doesn't support it.
For me S4 is no CM friendly but you can expected long support from Samsung like S2.
One is CM friendly but software features and hardware specs are below S4.
Xperia Z is the least interesting of all both hardware and software but it can play with me in the bath. I might go with it.
Galaxy S4 does indeed use LPDDR3:

Doesn't list it in the specs. Just says it is an IPS-LCD Screen.
IPS stands for in-plane switching. An IPS-LCD is a type of thin display that offers better viewing angles than TFT-LCDs. IPS-LCDs feature two transistors for each pixel, where TFT-LCDs use just one. This requires a more powerful backlight, which delivers more accurate colors, and allows the screen to be viewed from a wider angle. The downside is that an IPS-LCD may consume more power than a TFT-LCD.
IPS-LCDs typically are found on high-end cell phones and portable devices. Apple's iPhone and iPad both feature IPS-LCDs, as does the Motorola Droid.
where can you buy the 16gb version?
i found the 2gb ram version here but it says it only has 8gb
with regard to the 2g/3g it says it supports:
2G: GSM 900/1800/1900MHz
3G: WCDMA 900/2100MHz
does this mean i would get full HSDPA speeds on the Three network in the UK like i do currently with my Galaxy Note 1 (N7000)
No

May not get. It won't take time to do so for them. When indian companies like xolo did for many 1 year old phones immediately after release, why can't Xiaomi?
http://en.miui.com/thread-67454-1-1.html
All Redmi phones will get MIUI 6 developer version and stable version; We will try our best to release some beta versions by the end of Dec. 2014
I think the device is pretty great for the price tag.
Got some really nice specs of you ask me.
Works great in general use, web surfing with chrome is butter smooth and sweet gaming performance as well.
My only hardware issue is with the camera, despite being a 13 MP camera, it's pretty lame, but still you can get "okay" photos out of it.
And yea Btw, blame Mediatek for the source code. [emoji16]
