Strange LCD Display Behavior - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Found this problem months ago. When I do pressure at the bottom of the phone, the display goes black or white (randomly). The only fix is to turn off the display, wait 5 seconds and then turn it on. Do you think is a LCD problem or a mother board problem? I'm thinking on buying a new LCD Display .
Let me know your thoughts and ideas
Here's the video of my phone.

Have you tried reconnecting the cables?

I haven't opened the phone. So I haven't touched the wires. But I'd like to know if this could be due to a bad connection or bad LCD.

I have seen a phone where bad flex cable connection (also - shielding is important) gave these symptoms. So, if the phone is out of warranty, if you intend to open it anyway, it is worth checking it. I understand that the battery is veryvstrongly glued, so be careful!

[Q] Digitizer remplacement problem

Hi
I bought that ; http://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-Touch-D...102?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4602f56036
once I installed all the pieces, I restart the cell. It starts, I can hear sound, but no image on the actual screen. What could I do wrong? Does anyone has a video? All I can find on youtube is a video of how to disassembled it but never how to change the digitizer.
Thx for ur help!

just make sure the flex cables are plugged all the way in.... if the lcd plug is just barely off it will not work...if all are plugged in it should work... there is a chance the part could be bad..(it does happen) if so just return it for another.... but the best advice is check the connections... dont force them... but unplug and replug them... anything that has to be forced is wrong and will cause damage if you force it...
no real need for a video as with the part you have shown is a pretty simple remove a few screws and unplug connections... also inspect the flex cables on the new unit... one small nick in the lcd one and it also could cause this...
hope this helps...

I tought that maybe it had something else to swap or something.
I already sent back one digitizer to the sender cauz the other one wasn't working... So my guest was that if a second one didn't work I was probably the problem but seem not...
When I reinstalled my old (and broken) screen its work like a charm.
Anyway thx for ur help I'll try to reinstall it

[Q] Screen partially flickering after fixing water damage (maybe damaged data cable)

Hello, I tried alot and hopefully someone can help me at my problem.
Mx Xperia Z had a water damage. At disassembling and cleaning the phone with isopropanol I scratched both data cables.
The phone is working again (everything) but now I have one problem. The screen is flickering at some colors at some spots as seen on the picture.
I think its because scrachting the data cables. Does someone knows for sure or with a high possibility what exactly could it be - Am I right with the data cable and what can I do?
I couldnt get the cable without display and just want my phone back 100% to work.
I would be really happy and thankful for some purposeful tips or especially for the final tip what can help me.
Best wishes
lerush from germany
ps. As seen in the pictures. Its not in every color and not in every position of the screen. The flickering is a combination of color and location on the display.
pps. The flickering is sometimes getting stronger or lesser strong depends on the pressure on the phone / backplate. I´m nearly 100% percent sure it´s the data-cable. I added last picture after prssing backplate back on the phone. What can I do with the datacable? - Is it the datacable?
i do have same problem....no a single reply to this problem....did u got any solution for this problem plz reply

You damaged lcd flex cable (the black one on the right side) while removing your battery. I think that you don't have many options, you must change that cable (complete lcd). You can try with adding some thin tape on that scratch, and try with reconnecting that flex cable (see if the connectors on the mbo r damaged). Good luck bro.
the same problem with Z1
Hi,
i have the same problem but with Z1. I replaced display with touchscreen and i can see the same effect of flickering, stretching.
In my case, when phone is working longer I have more flickering, up to the moment when i can not see anything. The back side of phone is getting warm (around NFC logo). Also i got more flickering when on screen are pictures, icons with high resolution. Simple text are almost always clear.
Is it possible, that other thing than lcd cable is the problem?
My doubt is warming of the phone and that i got more flickering with time.
Also supplier wrote to me , that they check every single part before sending. I can not notice any visual signs of damage.

Did my Moto x die?

Hi everyone! I have a big problem with my moto x.
Two fridays ago I was walking and I tripped over an iron pívot with the bad luck that my moto was in my pocket. The screen didn't break because the knock was in the rear although the aluminium framework is slightly bent.
Well, that weekend the mobile was working well till Sunday and then, the screen started doing strange things, similar to the first photos. I remove the back case and disconnected/connected the connector that is at the bottom and the phone was working well during the week.
The problem is going worst because it fails with too much frequency and not all the times I disconnect/connect the famous connector it starts working well.
So, what do you thing it might be happening? Should I replace screen? Should I replace battery? Should I buy another phone?
I don't know if changing screen will solve the problem and I don't want to waste 100€ or whatever the screen costs. I left the photos below...
Thank you!
Edit: not all the times it fails, this post was writen with my moto

It seems like lcd has been damaged, try these things too check your problem, remove back cover, unplug battery connector, unplug each and every connector and just fix it again these connectors in reverse order, you can get the help by ifix website search teardown of moto x 2014.. Plug your charger while power on and see if its same or pb is gone.. If its same then lcd connector or LCD panel replacement is only choice.

I did it, it failed during some more days and then it worked for 3 days. Yesterday it failed again, but after reboot it continued working...
Something i've noticed is that the last two days unplugging at 8.30h battery goes to 0 around 15.30 when it should last almost all day. I'm thinking that maybe, the battery could have been damaged and sometimes it doesn't send the correct voltage and then de screen fails? what do you think? should I try to change the battery?

No Audio after screen replacement

Hi,
I really need your help as I have no idea what to do.
After 1 month of using MI5 Pro Ceramic black I have broke my phone,First the touch worked and there was only vertical lines on the lcd in the spot of the shatter so I could operate but due to my stupidity and of force touching the broken glass these vertical lines started to cover all the screen (Everything worked well on the phone..Sound,Camera and etc..)
So I ordered from Aliexpress LCD + Touch screen for about 70$ (Included DHL Express shipment)
When I got the screen I started to disassamble the phone.. Got everything out,Took out the broken screen and pasted the new screen on the frame (Must say all these aliexpress screens are really bad,0% protection on the screen,Not sure about the LCD quality yet but glass is horrible..Started to scratch even before I used it)
Anyways to our point..
Started to assamble back everything.. Powered on the phone and Yay! Phone is working but...
No Sound,Firstly I checked settings and everything..Ran CIT test and everything that belongs to audio giving force close..
Calibrate Speaker PA test results : State-Get impedance failed!,Speaker Vendor-None
Vibration- FAIL no short and no long
Main mic speaker Feedback,Simulation call test,Front mic speaker feedback test,Top mic speaker feedback test,
everything when I enter it giving FC with that details :
"IlegalStateException:Unable to retrieve AudioRecord pointer for SetParameters() blablala...
Headphone mic feedback test (Called on an uninitialized AudioRecord)
So in short..
No Speaker,No Mic,No headphone Mic..
Now my question is what I need to do from now.. Its not firmware/software problem for sure as before I disassambled the phone everything worked well..
My first guess was the problem is on the Sub PCB but then I asked my self..If the USB-C is working and WiFI antenna giving full signal it means the Sub PCB works so what the hell is the problem? I really hope its not something in the PCB it self as it means throw everything to garbage.. ;<
Hope to hear suggests..
I thought to order the MI5 32GB Black version take out the Main PCB put the Pro Main PCB and put also the ceramic back cover but that I would do only if I know that the problem is from the sub PCB but if Headphone mic doesnt work (Which the Main PCB take care of) then its probably in the Main PCB??
Please help!
you didnt damage the pins on the press connector? is the press connector on the ribbon cable flush / fully inserted ? Are you sure you didnt kink the ribbon cable?
I haven't pulled a mi5 apart, but can only assume its like every other phone i have.

The problem is that far as I understood of how the mi5 built and from how I saw it looks like..The Speaker located in the Sub PCB cover,Vibrate connected to subPCB,And all the SubPCB connected with the cable to the main PCB and I checked it connected good and no any damaged pins from what I was able to see..If there was damaged pins then the phone wont get charged as the USB-C wont be connected as it located in the SubPCB however it does work.. So I really have no idea what cause it..
Also the Headphone mic doesnt work in the tests..Anything related to Audio giving that FC with "AudioRecord" error..
I really must to know what causing it so I will know what to do ;<
Little update,
Just connected a bluetooth speaker,No any sound nothing..
Hi everyone! My MI5 has the same problems, no sound, mic, vibration, led buttons light, plugin earphones without notification's icon, can not play music, video offline and online video (Youtube, Facebook, live stream ..). It was happened when i replaced brooken screen. The first time when I turn on, evetything ok, I can play music through speaker, but now everything has gone..! Plz tell me how to slove this problem! Sorry for my poor E!
Hi, I ended up on buying the phone again... It's impossible to fix that problem as probably you did what I did and didn't place the motherboard correctly so a little bent probably happened and that cause to the problem.

Hi there! Care to elaborate a little more? I have also the same problem. I was replacing the rear camera module while the module I had received was broken to begin with. I hadn't really figured this out initially and I tried several times to attach it and test it, perhaps move the flex and retest, and at some I remember I found out the vibration was not there, but didn't pay attention to it as everything was open, until I found out the camera module was faulty in the end, and subsequently discovered also the whole issue with sound/vibration/key backlight etc. Instead of buying a new device, I was thinking to try and fix it, but still I'm a bit unsure about what the problem really was. From what I could figure, I didn't do anything different this particular time the audio/vibration didn't work, with respect to the previous times I attached and detached the motherboard. But is it definitely the board itself and not its flex connecting it to the sub-pcb? Could it be the sub-pcb itself or even both this and the board? In case I buy a new board (perhaps together with a sub-pcb just in case) to replace it which part should I watch out for, not to damage it again. Sorry for the many questions but you seem to be the only source of info for this specific problem.

Hi sorry for late answer,I barley visit xda these times..
After I bought the MI5 again this time in the 64gb version I tested the old 128gb motherboard (The main one) and still same problem with Vibration/Sound (While all sensors work camera too)
Which means its not the sub-pcb problem,Its the main motherboard for sure,Now what cause it?
In my opinion when I pulled of the motherboard to put it on the new screen I insert it in a bad way which made it bent a little and probably the place I bent is where the audio and all the stuff goes on..
I'm pretty sure we cant really do something about that problem as problem related to motherboard it self are usually not fixable,But if you find something I will glad to get a feedback to test on my own bad motherboard so maybe I can back to the 128gb version ;| but I doubt it..

Many thanks for the response! It sheds a little light indeed. I also ordered another phone to replace it as the cost of the motherboard seems to be equal approximately close to a new device. I'm with you, in the same view, I also once placed the motherboard quickly in the chassis without the screw that holds it together, in one of the 50 or so attempts to try and make the camera sensor I was replacing, visible to the OS, and this looseness was the unfortunate one perhaps (?). I too don't expect the sound to work again. I just wanted to double check the issue was not with the sub-pcb, which I did thanks to you. For sure I have no hopes for the mainboard to work again, but still, what keeps me from being certain it is actually the sound card that is the problem, is a very similar case I saw In a foreign forum, and also clues from my device which support the argument that the mainboard might have entered in a kind of diagnostic boot state due to a hardware fault that was apparent, where either some components are not initialized during boot, or their HW resources are taken over from the diag. ports and irqs that are enabled, in which case the issue can perhaps be fixed. For sure whenever I find a good deal on a new motherboard I will replace it, to keep it as a secondary phone, as I liked it quite a bit, but It would be interesting to see if this hypothesis holds or not. Anyway thanks again for the response!
Hi,
I've bought used mi5 with broken screen. After LCD replacement I've found that that phone has problem with sound. Exactly the same as in this thread - no sound, mic, vibration, led buttons light, plugin earphones without notification's icon, can't play music, video offline and online video (Youtube).
Someone already did LCD replacement on this phone and probably done something.
But what I discovered on this phone that problem start when battery charge aprox more then 60%.
I did flash one year old ROM via fastboot ( just to verify if it not the ROM problem) and after that everything was fine ( battery level 50%).
I did hardware test - passed 100% fine.
But when I did charge till 100% the problem come back.
That's really interesting finding... Can you tell me the same steps you did like which rom you flashed and all of that? I will check it with my dead phone maybe if I will have the same thing like you we can point on something...

Exactly same problem with me, just replaced the rear camera and the problem occurs
No sound, no vibration, nav led not working at all, playing video not working
Even playing sound via bluetooth speaker not working too
I believe there is something wrong with the mainboard
can anyone point out which part of the mainboard responsible for the lower board?
The lower board works well though, I tested it using other mainboard

For me the problem was that after the screen replacement (It may also apply to you after you replaced the rear camera..)
When I put back he main motherboard it wasnt sat properly,I put it beneath a small plastic holder and when I closed everything and screw and all..Problem appeared and when I rechecked motherboard I found out it got bent in the right down side and that's probably what killed all the sensors, sound and everything..
Of course that what happend to me..There is plenty of other reasons that may cause to what you experience..

I believe the chip or something similar, that control the sensor, led, vibration etc, was broken because we put it the wrong way
now we need to find which chip it is and replace it
which part of the right down? near the signal cable?

If you just checked and saw you put it wrong as I did,On the little plastic which made a little bent then I guess you lost..I would just buy new motherboard on aliexpress or just give up and buy a new phone..
As you cant really know (I mean from our side..) if its a chip related there or if its the bent it self which made problem on the connection on the board it self..
And yes I was speaking about the right side near the signal cable where you need to install the motherboard from that side where there is a little plastic like holding the motherboard..When I did the reinstall by not checking I put the motherboard on that plastic and after I closed everything and all screws got back I discovered that problem..

yeah, it means it's the same mistake as mine, that little metal thing that hold the motherboard, I forgot to eject the sim card tray and when I pull my main board it was stuck, got a little bent from there

Screen Flickering

Hey guys
I have a very strange problem with my Huawei P10
About 2 weeks ago, I noticed that two purple horizontal stripes are appearing in a 3-4sec sequence
Normally, I would immediately ask for a repair, but there's a thing which persecutes me: it only happens when I don't touch the screen for longer than 3-4sec
When there's a continuous contact with the screen (e.g when writing a message) nothing happens, everything is fine and dandy, but whenever I leave the screen for itself for 3 or more seconds (e.g when watching a movie), the stripes start to appear every few seconds, and continue until the screen goes dark or until I touch it again, but after touching it it still takes only a few seconds for the stripes to sequentially flicker again
Here's what I've tried so far (no result):
- safe mode
- factory reset
- cache partition wiping
- cord input deep clean
What may be the reason?
Hey.
It's 100% a board or Display issue. send it for repairs. but i believe maybe you've dropped ur phone. Anyways Huawei knows better.

It's quite complicated
I once dropped it, but even after that, the previous LCD worked fine, there were no errors other than broken glass, so I guess we could exclude a board issue and lean toward your second option, as now that the LCD has been replaced, the fault occurs
What's more, I noticed that if I press the Home Key, and then put my finger in the bottom right corner and hold it, I can still use the whole LCD space without the flickering (I need to press the Home Key first so that it works after I hold my finger in the corner)
It's like the LCD needs to be in contact with your finger all the time to avoid that, which has led me to an idea: would a tempered glass solve that maybe?

I can't really answer for sure but i believe if there's a Huawei service center in your city and you try to fix ur broken huawei, your wasting your time. Whatever solution u apply on ur phone its just gonna be temporary since u hide your problem and not solved it.

I still think (or should I say believe ) that there's a solution which doesn't involve another screen replacement
As for your "temporary solution" mention, I guess if I found one, it wouldn't be temporary, since the fault doesn't progress, it's been the same for a month or so when it first occured, which gives me another reason not to replace the screen and keep looking for other possibilities
I don't need a Huawei service center, I can replace the LCD myself (didn't do that the first time though), but it still involves spending money, whereas I've been looking for unpaid solutions the whole time; getting a new LCD is an extremity

You can ask them to diagnose it and tell you about problem noone makes you pay for a lcd. And after reading your message over and over (And since i repair TVs and everything with electronics inside) i think it also can be your touch or display controller ic. Mostly it could be from touch ic since screen works fine while its in touch with something. But someone has to try your lcd or mb on a healthy one to make sure. which you can't do nothing like that. or do you?
@fengels did You bought original lcd, where can I buy it in good price?
I know this problem from older galaxy series like s5. The fix for this most of the time was disable auto brightness or higher the brightness on auto brightness. Don't know if this is the same problem, but it could be a try. Also don't know which cause this strange problem. Hope it can help you

No, it's a different problem, in the galaxy series the whole screen would flicker, whereas in my P10 it's only 2 horizontal stripes appearing in a 4-5 sec sequence whenever I leave the screen untouched for longer than 5sec
Playing around with the brightness doesn't solve that unfortunately, actually no in-device settings do, as I've tried almost every single option which is screen-related, like switching the eye comfort mode on, but still no result
The main reason why I'm still looking for an unpaid solution is that apart from this one error, the phone is like brand new, everything works fine
ok, so if I understad the problem shows up after you replaced the LCD display? So do you really think is more software related than hardware? I personally would send it to diagnose and repair.

The thing is it didn't show up immediately, I had used the phone for some time with no errors before it first occured
Also, since the new LCD was set, I haven't done any physical damage to it, I've never dropped or sunk the phone
Since you guys mostly advise me to send it, I guess that's what I will have to do

While you were replacing screen, did you turn your device off and disconnect the battery? and i think cleaning all cables coming from LCD and related sockets on motherboard can help. Use thinner or alcohol and if you wanna use thinner be careful so it wouldn't touch anything except golden contacts. Thinner is dangerous and affects ur phone color and plastic parts.

I did turn the device off, but I didn't take the battery off, since it's strongly glued to the phone's body, and I didn't want to damage it
Anyway, could not taking the battery off really be the reason?
As for cleaning, I did it by simply blowing out all the potential dirt, I'm inexperienced in thinner and alcohol cleaning

I am not sure butbon some phones it damages screen. I've seen this on laptops. But anyways its done. Open ur phone and use alcohol. put 2 drops of alcohol on each socket and flat cable connectors and brush it with a soft brush. u don't want to bent any golden contact. It's last thing u can do to fix it without paying for hardware related stuff.

Well, will definitely try it then, but what alcohol? Does it need to be something specific?
