[GUIDE] How to fix Oculus System Activity Update issue. - Samsung Gear VR

After scratching and pulling my hair for weeks trying to educate my samsung s7 e some manner I came across the VR . Back when I was in stock it worked. But, now it stucked in the Oculus System Activity update loop. After couple of online guides I got frustrated and went to clean up my sd card. So, here is it :
If you are rooted get a recycle bin app or enable it in you file explorer if yours have one. Es file explorer has it , but I use dumpster.
Whenever you hit the update button oculus app downloads the system activity as a form of .apk and when it failed to install it, it deletes the apk. That's where the recycle bin apps comes in to action. Its, saved the deleted apk. in my case its in
/mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.baloota.dumpster/files/.trash/ . Yours may vary depending on your apps.
Now what I did is I restored it and installed it like a normal apk please don't forgot to enable your "Unknown Source"
For non rooted user I am attaching the apk but I will not be responsible for your device as I don't know whether they are device specific or not.

Hit the thanks button if I helped

You are the BEST. Thanks man. I was getting crazy with this. I tried everything.
I still don't know where the problem comes from but at least I don't have to factory reset ??

Could you please post the files again? I've deleted the Facebook Installer and can't update the Oculus VR anymore. I've installed the Facebook app but the Installer part did't reinstall.

Please post the file again

Yes, could you please upload the file again... Dropbox show the file cannot be found.
My phone is not rooted

Here's a download link that's regularly updated

[Q] help, cant instal apks anymore

recently i tried to instal some apk files using astro or es, the file open up as normal until when i try to click on the instal button, it didn't react but the cancel button does, i had quite a number of apk files saved in my sdscard which worked previously but now none of them works. i looked into application setting for the box to checked to allow installation from unknown source checked but still the same. just upgraded to 2.3.5, hope this not the reason.
I'm not sure why they won't install but let me say this: about 3/4 of the apks available on the Pirate Bay are malicious.
Anything else weird going on with the phone?
Can you successfully uninstall an application?
i find wierd too, btw, those apks are not pirated, some are download from this forum which i had kept very long for future when i change phone like circular battery, simi folders when they are posted here long time ago which not yet out in the market at that time. of course now i dont need them anymore but just for testing purposes. i tried uninstal these few and instal back using the apk thru esfile and astro but no veil, help needed, tks...
i suspect that the system had disable the instal button whereas the cancel still works, dont what had cause it

[Q] Play Store apk

Does this apk have to stay in system/app to function properly? When i got root, 1st thing i did was delete the system apks of all the updated apps, play store worked for a while, did some automatic updates and im pretty sure i browsed on it, later i pressed the add small app icon in the multitask menu and when downloading one, it crashed and would continually crash upon opening until i moved the apk back in to system/app, anyone know anything?

No you can delete it without a problem. You can look at it like a setup.exe file after you installed the program you can delete it. But since it's a system ap it might work different, why delete it in the first place? It barely saves space.

housekeeping i suppose, it will only update to the data/app anyway, having duplicates would just bug me. Its back in data now and behaving normally, dont know what caused the problem before.
Update: Crashed again when trying to download an update, staying in system

[Q] Deleted Download Manager.

Hi everyone!
I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace which was running out of memory. I had tried to uninstall some unused applications and move others to the SD card. Still needing space because the low space message kept appearing, I rooted my phone and uninstalled some applications such as the Samsung app store and something called Download Manager.
Now, I figure I shouldn't have uninstalled Download Manager because it was required by Google Play. When I attempt to start Google Play, it closes within a second and gives the error message:
"Sorry. The application Google Play Store (process com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
After some online research, I tried cleaning the application's data and cache, even uninstalling updates, but to no avail, still get the same message. I read somewhere online that the cause might be the missing Download Manager.
Without resetting my phone to factory settings, is there any way I can reinstall Download Manager onto my phone? Unfortunately I did not create any backups before deleting Download Manager.
Thanks very much!
Appreciate any help offered!

You don't need to do a factory reset (btw a factory reset wouldn't even help ). Just download your rom again and extract the Download Manager.apk and place it under /system/apps/(here) and give the permissioms rwrr. Done!
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda app-developers app
Blackbox421, thank you very much for your reply! Yes I had a feeling that a factory reset wouldn't solve my problem because the file no longer exists on the handset. Stupid question, but where can I download my ROM from? I'd bought the handset with 2.3.3, and never changed that. Is extracting the Download Manager.apk file difficult too? Do I need special software?
Thanks very much. Appreciate your time!

[Q] Miui v6 GAPPS force close

Hi togehter,
I updated to MIUI V6 4.8.29 yesterday. Right now I have the problem that GAPPS aren't working so whatever I do.
I installed from the MiMarket Google installer and tried to install Google Play and the other 3 required apps, but always when I launch the Play Store this message comes across me (too stupid to upload, just look here LINK ).
I also tried to just flash normal Anroid 4.4.4 GAPPS from the internet but thats neither working. None of the apps is showing up, just as I never installed anything.
So right now I'm in troubles... Hope you guys can help me
Greetings!!

Tried them already, failed during installation in CWM..
Had the same problem, you need to update Play Store.
Download google installer, install all the google apps you need, then download and install this: http://www60.zippyshare.com/v/95809041/file.html then restart the phone. That should work.
The only gapp that force closes is the Play Store. The rest work as it should.
Try uninstall Google Play and reinstall it, work for me.
Thanks for the answers: as in another forum mentioned, reinstalling Google installer and then install the Play Store at last worked for me.
But your ways probably work too!
Greetings
Hi there,
If anyone still encountering FC/not dowloading apps for Playstore or market, it might also be the cause of new partition or something like that, you can try this another option freely other than fixing permission of vending.apk on /system/app/..
This might help you guys .
1. check if cache folder has "download" folder inside it, if it no download folder then create one inside /cache, e.g. mkdir /cache/download.
2. then chmod the /cache folder to 777, also make sure the com.android.vending folder is present inside /data/data/ folder.
3. You can achive it through shell terminal.
Hope this helps you guys fix the FC(Force close or not downloading apps on playstore or market).
Hit thanks if it helps.
Thanks

If your phones rooted, open any app that can show you the full list of permissions, services, etc, of the playstore, and any app (play services, framework, etc..) and enable them all. I did everything that other post said to do, nothing worked, until I did this, and viola! it works!

Detaching apps from market

Like many others I don't always like the updates to some of my installed apps. Yet it is a hassle to avoid accidentally installing an unwanted update. It is so much easier to click on "update all" in Google Play instead of going through each app's update individually.
Yet I have not found a way to make an installed and purchased app safe from updating. Titanium backup's "detach from market" does not work.
May I suggest a module that would prevent an app from updating? Maybe by making its app files write only?
I think a package like that would be useful. But an easy workaround in the mean time would be to go to Google play store settings and change the automatic update to never.
I already don't allow automatic updates but it is still a nuisance to have to pick through and avoid the persistent update notifications.
I currently use Changelog Droid to accomplish this, although I'd certainly welcome a module to replace it.
Yes, that will tell me what the update changes. I'm looking for something that would "prevent" the update.
this would help me a lot as well. im sure there is a module somewhere that will detach an app from the market and it would just stop showing in the pay store updates.
I think it would help a lot of users. Titanium backup has had that feature for years but it hasn't worked for years. Every time the play store refreshes it reattaches the app.
I am not a programmer but it seems to me that if a tool made an installed app's main files "read only" any attempted update would simply fail, which would solve the problem. Wouldn't that work?
Right now, I try to avoid certain updates but if I accidentally update I use titanium backup to restore the previous backed up version. But it would be nice if it could be simpler. I don't understand why the play store insists on forcing updates.

There is some kind of workaround for this issue.
You can use Raccoon to download .apk files from the Play Store to your computer (you can also download previous app versions, search the thread for it). Afterwards, use the app ZipSigner to sign the downloaded .apk with your own key. If required, uninstall the official app version, reboot, install the newly signed .apk and reboot again. Now the update notification from Google Play Store should be gone as the app isn't signed with the same key as the official one from Play Store.
Thank you. I'll try that. Thanks for taking the time to help.

Yes, you can That's one huge advantage of the described method :good:
Google Play Store checks for the sign code, whereas Titanium Backup depends on the package name (which isn't changed during signing process).

I signed the apk and ended up with a zip file, so i flashed that and got the attached error. What am i doing wrong? Got the apk from the developer website which might be causing the issue.

You can select if you want to sign the .apk as .zip or as .apk file (.apk files are .zip files, just with another file type). Don't flash them via recovery. If you can't find the option to sign the .apk as .apk, just sign it as .zip and rename it to .apk afterwards.
