i'm unable to install a custom rom i downloaded from here, i followed every step to do it, yes i'm a noob, but i managed to do everything good without bricking my phone, i'm a software engineer so i had to test myself , there is a point i just can't go, is when i have to wipe all the data and cache, and once i'm about to install the rom from the zip it does everything but it says error and just simple doesn't do the rest, the zip is good, is not corrupted, the phone has the bootloader unlocked, everything is in perfect conditions to do the flash, but is not flashing the rom, i really don't know what's going on
which rom did you tried to flash? And is it for your device?always use TWRP recovery(recommended) and wipe dalvik cache, cache, data before flashing any custom rom.Or if its still not working upload the log or mention it what the error msg says.

I wanted to flash custom rom on my galaxy S. I flashed clean rom, then kernel with CWM, but there is a problem. Everytime I try to flash rom it ends with bootloop. I tried cm7, cm10, rootbox, miui 2.4. Every time is the same. It starts installing (only few secodns), then screen becames brighter, then restart and bootloop. I tried different kernels, roms but still same result.
ps. sorry for my english
Hi, here is a great guide to fix bootloops:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660596
Usually, doing factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache before and after intalling the ROM should fix the issue though.
I'm doing all necessary wipes, I can recover from bootloop easly but I want flash custom rom and I can't. Istalling zip lasts few second, not few minutes, there is a problem.
Sorry if this is too basic, but are you using the right ROM for your phone?
of course...
I don't know if I'll be able to help you, but can you please list the exact model of your phone just in case? You can see the different variants here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S#Variants
It is just GT-I9000. Now I managed to flash CM7.2 but if I want install CM9 or CM10 im getting bootloop and can't enter recovery mode ;o
Sorry, I can't really give you an answer with that information. If you are following the steps in each ROMs thread, you should have no problems patching as far as I know (someone more knowledgeable than me may say otherwise).
Maybe posting the exact steps you are following would help me or others to find out what the issue is.
I'm following right steps. It's not my first phone. I know how it should be but it isn't. Here are my steps:
Flash stock ROM w/ODIN v1.85 - OK
Flash CF-Root w/ODIN v1.85
Wipe Data/Wipe Cache
Phone now rooted OK
Boot to CWM Recovery
Install zip from sdcard
Select update on SDCard (cm-7.1.0 from CM site)
Flash completes in just a few seconds
Phone reboots automatically
Now stuck in boot loop
Remove battery
Go to CWM again and reflash CM7.1 zip
Now i have CM7
Reboot to recovery, facotry reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik
Flash CM9/CM10, finishes in few sec, reboots, then black screen, can't go to recovery mode ;(((
Flashing stock with odin again...and every time is the same, sometimes when I choose CM10 i see info: "Incompatible Partition Layout" so it may be the reason (something with partition, idk)
My phone has never rebooted like that, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I do know I use ODIN v3.07. I also have CWM 6.0.2.7
Best of luck finding a solution, sorry I could no be of more help.
I think CWM6 would help but I can't find this version for cm7
IGNORE ALL LINKS BELOW, they are for the wrong phone
I don't think it matters what CM you have on your phone, you should be able to upgrade CWM from recovery: Maybe not in i9000...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843825
Doesn't work in i9000 as far as I can tell: You can also try installing TWRP, which I like better than CWM and have in a different device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694617
Finally, and don't take me on this because is just a guess, maybe your bootloader is not working properly? I don't really remember how to do this myself:
You are showing me links to CMW and TWRP for i9001, I have i9000...
You are right, please ignore those links... I do know I patched CWM 6.0.2.7 through ODIN on my phone, so maybe that's the only way. In any case, I'll let you look for the actual links.
Ok so i had 5.02 rooted kitkat. Obviously unlocked bootloader. It says 3. And twrp 2.8something...
For the previous months every time i rebooted the phone it took like 10 minutes to boot for some reason. But it worked. It was laggy these days so i thought i will wipe everything and install CM12.1.
So i downloaded the rom and gapps. Then i wiped delvik, cache, system, internal memory and data. I also did format data.
I dont really understand, obviously, how android works. So i had the zips on external card and pressed install on from twrp menu. Then wiped cache and delvik cache. Tried to reboot and says 'Warning no OS found'. I say okay and then it says that it wants to root. I say ok again.
Now the PROBLEM is that it does nothing. It justs stucks on motorola boot logo for too much time. I am not sure if this is because i already had a problem with booting taking too much time or because of what i have wiped. I also tried updating bootloader again. Not sure if this changed anything
Long story short, how do i continue now? Is there a way to really delete everything i have done on the phone, then install fresh twrp and then CM12.1? And how do i fix the booting taking too much time problem...
Any help will be valueable. I just dont get how things work because nowadays there are too many things, kernels, roms, bootloaders, recoveries etc... Can i just flash the CM rom from my computer via usb? I tried something like that by ?sideload? only to get a problem about requiring 1.0.32 version. I tried to download new SDK but again i have 1.0.31 version of adb...
Thanks!
P.S. Yes, i am totally lost. But i have desire to understand...

I am trying to do this but i dont have some files like boot.img or logo.bin etc.... Where can i download those? There is a link about mfastboot is not working. I am using linux btw so i guess the fastboot i already have is okay
EDIT: Ok i am obviously stupid. The files are on the zip ROM. Okay i am doing this. Now the question i have is, cant i install CM12.1 using fastboot like this ROM?
Okay and it worked. It booted stock rom and this time it booted in a minute or two (considering it was the first time booting i think its awesome).
Now i have to try CM rom. At least i know how to return the phone back if anything happens. Thank you very very much!

Glad to help
now just copy the rom you want to install and the gapps, install the latest TWRP, wipe: Cache, Dalvik Cache, Data and System and just flash the zips
Many thanks I managed to install CM12.1. Thought i think i failed to flash most of gapps for some reason i dont really care.
I only have one severe bug. 3G is not working for some reason. So i dont have gsm internet except the slow one...
Just trying to find out if before i install computerfreek's rom that all i need to do is go to wipe and just do a factory reset or, like i've seen some of rootjunky's video's, he goes into advanced wipe and selects dalvik cache, system, data, and cache. Not sure what is necessary and the directions say just to install it but rootjunky wipes some things so i'm not sure what to do that would have the best outcome.
Thanks guys!!
A factory reset will be fine. If you want to wipe everything like Rootjunky does, that's fine too. If you're going to wipe everything, make sure that you have a computer handy so that you can get the flashable zip back on there after everything is wiped.
Here are the directions from post #1 in computer freeks thread.
Step 1 Phone bootloader must be unlocked via sunshine root. I will no longer help users unlock please see sunshine If you need an none xposed ver use @firstEncounter v3 listed here. I blocked my no xposed img from downloads. I know it worked for most users but there was a few it did not and hung up on sunshine server blocking there IP. @jcase recommend you use @firstEncounter v3 or update to stock .44 then unlock with sunshine.
Step 2 Install Twrp Recovery Get it here.
Step 3 Enter recovery Copy my rom/zip to your phones storage device.
And any other options your download from here xposed and PON-3 put all zip's on phone storage. And flash/install in recovery computerfreek_Unlocked_1.X 1st then install/flash xposed,Pon-3 zip's
Step 4 In recovery click install select my rom .zip and slide to install
Step 5 Hit home and go to wipe for best results slide bar to do factory reset.
Step 6 Reboot system
Step 7 Your done setup your phone xposed and pon-3 audio if you install it.
Step 8 If you flashed xposed you need to install the APK now.
Yeah I've read that part and it doesn't say to do anything before installing the rom, just goes straight to flashing then factory reset. Wasn't sure if I should do any sort of wipe before I install it or not is all. Haven't flashed stuff on a phone on a couple years so I've sort of lost touch with it all but I did do tons of reading but couldn't find this one answer.
Thanks st33v! I'll do that and keep the computer handy. Hopefully this post helps others with the same thing I had. Just some minor confusion.
I mean technically, if you're coming from the stock rom, you could flash CF's rom without wiping anything and still be okay, but it never hurts to be extra careful and start from a clean slate.
Yeah, i always figure its best to have a clean slate plus, i like the clean slate feel again
Hello !
At first I apologize for my English, I am French.
So i used the custom ROM Validus and this problem appears for every ROM. Like you know, when you root, you can't use snapchat and u need to login before you root your phone. So i installed Validus, i install all apps i need and login (included snapchat) but after that when i flash super su, my phone reset and i have a error message which flashes. In the message i have ".com.android" something and i'm obliged to shutdown the phone, reset the phone and re-install the ROM.
And this appears with all ROM (Tesla, Tuga etc...) and i don't know how can i use snapchat acutally.
I tried to disable super user in the app, doesnt work
I saw we can use xposed app but for 7.1.1, it's not possible actually
Any ideas ?
Thanks,
Snapchat discorvers root as it denies working on it. After flashing install snapchat and login. Then return to recovery and install SU afterwards. Possibly you have to use tools like RootCloak.

It's what i tried to do (without RootCloak) and when i do that, i lost all my data (like i wipe all data when i try to install SU...) but RootCloak works for 7.1.1 ? Because i already tried to flash Xposed, doesnt work (error 1)
Try SUHide. Though the data wipe seems odd.

I tried to flash suhide after flash ROM, doesnt work, the ROM don't charge (the loading of the ROM don't stop)
PS : I tried with Validus ROM and others, same things
Here's a workaround for Nexus 6. Maybe it's working on 3T as well. Something else I found here.
Nevertheless, the auto data wipe is strange. Did you clean or dirty flash?

I don't know what is dirty flash ? What i know is i alway wipe all data before install any custom ROM
But I found a solution. I installed Root Swich, it's a simple app which allows to deactivate the root and activate it as you want.
So i disabled root and install snapchat and login successfully.
But i want to understand why when i want to flash super su for any custom ROM i have a auto data wipe :/
Since your device is beyond my reach I can't help investigating the problem. Maybe the data is not really deleted but r/w permissions have just been modified and cannot be accessed any more. But anyway, I'm glad your found a workaround.

Now I just need someone who knows how can i fix the problem of data. Cause if one day i will need to flash something, it's gonna wipe the data of my phone
Maybe if i do a clean factory reset or something ? Cause i used my 3T a lot cause of this to find a solution so maybe something happenned when i tried so many things. (Test of ROM etc ...)
I have more information, when I install any custom ROM and after that I want to flash super su, wipe cache etc ... I boot on the ROM normally but i see my phone haved a factory reset and i have this ".com.android.phone has stopped" Impossible to remove the message and I am forced to wipe again data and reinstalll the ROM.
Conclusion : I can install ROM but after that, i can not do anything, if i do anything, BOUM, reset factory. And i don't understand why ....
I tried the last (Unofficial) TWRP but when i tried to boot on the ROM after flashing it, my phone didn't boot on the ROM but always on TWRP.
Maybe I brick my phone but i can use it, i don't have storage problem or others so ...
I'm lost ... Any ideas ?

Do you have this issue with only flashing super su or try to boot into recovery don't do anything and reboot check if it still reset everything.
Which recovery you are using?
The version

I have this issue only flashing super su, when i try to boot into recovery and then reboot into the ROM, nothing happened.
I use 3.0.3.1, when i tried 3.0.4.0 and flash a ROM, the phone only boot on recovery and not into the ROM
I'm actually having a similar issue. One day my phone was acting weird and I had to force reboot. I noticed after that I lost root. I've tried flashing SuperSU again, and it flashes fine but I still don't get root. This morning I upgraded to 4.0.3, and tried flashing root, and same thing no root.
The weirdest part is I can flash a custom kernel with TWRP 3.0.3.1 and the kernel flashes fine and I have the custom kernel, if I try flashing SuperSU, it flashes fine but I get no root AND it removes the custom kernel!!! Everything I'm using is the most updated too. What gives? I want root back....
Hi everyone,
I really need help, I have tried everything I could think of and nothing works. So if someone more knowledgeable could help me, that would be great.
I followed the instructions in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343
and everything went ok until I flashed a new ROM.
Current situation : Bootloop when I power up. Can still access TWRP recovery. Phone is recognized by flashtool/xperia companion/emma.
Tried to flash a new ROM with flashtool->error (can't read byte value), I tried de/re-installing flashtool and the drivers and different ROMs, always the same result
Tried to repair with xperia companion->error, can't complete
Tried emma->phone is locked
Tried sideloading ROM to flash through TWRP-> error
I don't understand how, even if I flashed a corrupted ROM, it could prevent me from flashing a new one over it?
Any ideas?
Thank you.
You can try xflasher tool as well.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/dev-xflasher-command-line-flasher-t2986634
But be warned - this is for more experienced users. I never tried it but it sounds like to be very powerfull.
For questions ask in xflasher thread... I never used it up to now...
But sometimes it helps to wipe cache/dalvik AND data from TWRP. Yes - all your data is away then!
Not nice to loose data but a bootable phone is even better...
Or flash again full ftf via flashtool. Wipe APPS_LOG/USERDATA (check boxes) but do not flash simlock.ta (if its there) !!!
This will wipe all your data as well..... While flashing, say NO to "fcs-script" popup.
. .
Thanks for the replies.
I tried different USB cable/port, no change.
I always selected to wipe everything in flashtool. I just got the phone so there was none of my data to save.
I will look at xflasher although, as you said, it looks intimidating...
