Fast ROM recommendations? - HTC Desire 510

Hello everyone,
I have an old HTC desire 510 running stock 4.4.2 version 1.19.661.4. I am having some car issues, have an ODB scanner plugged into my car and using Torque Pro on my phone to connect to it through WiFi. This phone will always remain in my car, i will use it to monitor my car (speed, fuel usage etc). It will be running in real time. But i have been noticing some lag when the app is reading the information so i was wondering what ROM would be the best to use in this situation where i will only be using one app on my phone. Don't need to use any other app, not even messaging or email. I need a heavily debloated ROM I guess? 32bit? 64 bit? Maybe a custom kernel too? I don't mind rooting.
Any suggestions?

I actually gave my Desire to my sister, but when I did use it I really liked Cyanogenmod on it. The cameras don't work but it sounds like what you're using it for doesn't require any cameras. I'd go with CM 11 because 12.1 has a wifi bug so it'd restart everytime you loose your connection to the network (So everytime you turn off the car ). Cyanogenmod is nice and lightweight, and you can customize it to your liking.
As for the kernel, I didn't really experiment a lot there so I can't help much.
Btw you can't just choose a 32 or 64 bit OS, it has to be compatible with the phone. The International version is 64 bit, and you need a 64 bit os with that, the US version is 32 bit, and you need a 32 bit os with that.

Revmod ROM with pattiboii's kernel is what i'm currently messing around on. TWRP for recovery is very useful on this phone. Also linux on this computer made fastboot 100x easier than on windows.
Most people use these devices for wifi and mp3, basically an ipod. And Revmod has viper4audio GLITCHY with DOLBY bass boost, but working somewhat with headset, havn't had a chance to bluetooth with it much, but will in a week or so after i have my headset.
So, i've decided i'll get viper4audio working on a kernel, notcwmod. Also, revmod gives me about 800ish MB of storage after gapps and everything, so it's a great one to build off of. . . wish i had a source, for the ROM, but i do for a couple kernels
Oh well though, i'll figure it out, and probably in a month or two you'll see a finished ROM on here, but can't test service, as this one doesn't have service.

Performance of Android on Topaz

Hows the performance of Android on Topaz compared to an Android Device with the same hardware? I am asking because I am thinking about buying a used Topaz or a new Android device and they shouldnt cost more than 230€. I already have a windows mobile based device, but I think that there aren't enough apps ( or rather it takes to long to search them).
I want to be up to date with the Android version and I read some threads about flashing a Android device and thats sounds very difficult compared to installing XDAndroid on Topaz. What should I buy?
If you want to work on android permanently get an a phone that uses android out of the box.
Android is not running properly on the Topaz.
There are some severe problems that I am very sure will never be fixed.
e.g.
battery running low pretty quick
no camera
no gps
no SD-Card(as far as I know)
problems with wifi/3g
etc.
So if you wanna use android get an android device..

gps working
sd card is used by system
wifi working
its quite fast
the only thing i am missing is sound and battery life
yeah i agree, if you want a perfect android phone out of the box, get an android phone.
the htc pure works great with android right now, but battery life is shorter then would be with an android phone and sound isn't yet working perfectly. its still under development and it will be a while before its perfectly working glitch free and as a replacement for windows mobile.
not a good idea if you want to use it as your actual phone. nice for testing and proof of concept.

you mean call sound ? external speaker dont work.
external speaker isn't working. Call sound is working
external speaker doesnt work for apps( e.g. pandora, music, videos, youtube) but the external speaker DOES work in call. like if your making a call and you click speaker, the sound will come out of the external speaker.

Bluetooth Auto Connect

Hi,
I bought a Bluetooth Car Stereo. I've paired it and it pairs fine. When I connect it, it works great and IF I leave BT permanently on, it automatically connects when I sit in the car. If I disable bluetooth to conserve battery, upon re-enabling it, it DOES NOT automatically connect. Instead, I have to go Settings, Wireless, Bluetooth and press Connect manually.
Is there no way of making my phone automatically scan or check or whatever? I'm pretty sure my old Nokia could connect automatically, in fact I'll test now!
Thanks,
Joe
Anyone? Perhaps an app you can recommend?
Bluetooth Autoconnect (by WestOneTech) ... but it's not free ...
Okay. I flashed MIUI MintBerry Edition, and guess what? It allows automatic reconnecting on bluetooth enable. So I know for a fact this isn't some android limitation and it's definitely a setting or config of some sort in SGS firmware.
There has to be a way in which this can be fixed on a stock rooted ROM.
Any help would be smashing!
That happens to me with my samsung gt-s5560 witch is a rather crappy phone. I need to manually tell the phone to connect with my car, even if it's paired and set to auto permit.
On my SGS with ICS EliteRom 1.2, however, it works perfectly. Connects automatically whenever i have bluetooth on (either if it was on before being in range or if i connect while i'm in range).
Bluetooth works as handsfree for calls - from the car interface the phone allows to take and place calls, browse through recent and lost calls, phonebook (it even downloads it) and it even streams music to my car's speakers (using Google Music) with no additional configs.
It connects rather fast, like 3 or 4 seconds after turning BT on.
Exactly Kayn and that is why I can't understand why the stock room doesn't do this and more to the point why nobody has raised this issue before. I like the stock ROM. I genuinely do. I find it intuitive. So why can't it automatically connect to my car stereo when Bluetooth is switched on. This custom ROM has no problem doing it. I simply switch on Bluetooth and boom it connects. I need that functionality on the stock ROM if possible
Im going to flash the newest value pack tomorrow and see if that helps but I doubt it will. I genuinely believe this is an issue with the stock ROM. The only thing that might have caused it if the stock ROM does support it, is if I've removed something using TiBa but I very much doubt it. I didn't touch any core system components.
Haven't flashed the latest value pack but I've worked out how to make it work. Ridiculous on Samsungs part and I think they need to get their heads out of their arses and sort it.
If I activate Bluetooth before I turn on my car stereo, then it picks it up perfectly.
So if I turn on my car stereo and then switch on bluetooth... doesn't work.
If I turn on bluetooth then switch on my car stereo... works fine.
Absolute joke on Samsungs part that this glitch is the only way I can get it to work. I'll keep investigating and I'll eventually write a guide to help people with it.

Makes us both but i can't really cope with the battery drainage when the phone's plugged during several hours (i use loads of battery intensive like torrent-downloading apps, radio streaming, etc and the phone needs to be plugged) so i had to make the change for some custom non-samsung based rom.
Samsung has loads of this minor quirks that make the experience that much less enjoyable. I only found solution in custom roms (very thankful to the devs for that!). Don't think they ever really cared about solving some under-the-hood issues (they did add some new features though) and even went as far as to pull the "flawed by design" apple-move.
I would still tell you to give a shot at customs, some out there are really good, but i can understand not wanting to change something we really like.
Good luck with that mate!
It's not that I don't like custom ROMs, I love custom ROMs but unfortunately, none of them have the Samsung Browser and let's be honest, everyone knows the best Android browser is the stock Samsung one. The browser that came with MIUI was very choppy and laggy.
I get decent battery life out of my stock ROM, but if I had to leave BT on permanently this would go down a lot! I suppose i just need to remember that as I get into my car, turn on BT and it'll connect first time.
Just crap that other Custom ROMs can search on enable and connect. Worst still, I can't believe we're the only ones who have this issue.
I never thought samsung browser was something that good, i hardly even see it being mentioned. I never really used it much since i have not used sammy's roms since ginger bread came out, but have you tried opera mobile? This is, by far, the best browser I've used, it's not even fair to compare - it's on a totally different league. I was actually losing hope of decent browsing (tried just about anything) on Android until i came across opera. Needs to be the mobile and not the mini. Faith in Android browsing restored
if you haven't, give it a shot, free on market. If that's the main reason not to use a custom rom, you may be changing your mind soon

HTC Vivid as a media device

If you were going to use a vivid purely for music in a car, airplane mode, no SIM card, etc, what rom would you choose and why?
Basically, imagine you have a vivid to turn into an android answer to the iPod touch.

ROM for audio
I don't know how much the ROM would actually matter. I am on stock ICS, using Viper4Android and the sound is really good.
I would likely use stock rom, root to either underclock or overclock (depending if I plan to use it mobile or just keep it stationary forever), grab a 3 female-1micro usb (if it even works on this phone) and then use one to charge, one to use a usb/bluetooth game controller/remote, and the last for a usb-hdmi out.
I just did this last weekend.
I unlocked the bootloader, a rooted, then after installing titanium backup i deleted all att and phone, sms apk's.
There is still a few things i need to work on but it is working just fine as an MP3 player for my daughter
Are you connecting to the car or other device? I ask, since UMS tends to be a problem on CM 10.1 and CM 10.2. 3.5mm should be fine.

[Q] Intoduction and Q on CM 10.2 and Motorola Vehicle Dock

Greetings,
I'm new to modding but not Android. I have had android phones for since the Droid X was new. I had rooted it on froyo, but lost root with the GB OTA and didn't bother to go further. The Droid X has been retired, though I have thought of playing around with it, just because it's sitting in a drawer. Recently as my Droid 4 (my upgrade from Droid X) ages, I was motivated to get back into it and try some custom ROMs. Just by lurking and reading this and similar forums i was able to successfully Root, Safestrap, and flash to CM 10.1 stable, then on to 10.2 and 11 nightlies... Also i was able to Unlock BL, set up custom recovery, and flashed CM 11 to my Nexus 10 all without asking a single question! All is great, I love Cyanogenmod, but... The ONE thing I miss from stock is the car dock app for the official Motorola vehicle dock. Obviously that is long gone unless I want to SBF (I don't), but I am looking for a replacement app.
And here is where I am stumped... For my Droid 4, I have tried many of the dock apps on the play store (including CarHomeUltra, which I see everyone recommend) but have not found something that does what I want. I have not found an app that can launch simply by being placed in the dock, this was a nice feature of the stock Moto app. Also, the original app routed phone audio through the usb connection, where a special cable split off to an aux out plug and a standard usb charger. Since i do not have bluetooth in my car, only Aux in (which I hacked into my stock radio), I am looking for an app that can route the audio through USB correctly. Since this is so device/accessory specific, I have a feeling that such an app probably does not exist? I guess I am wondering if the Motorola Vehicle mode APK is available so I can sideload it... For now I am using bluetooth headphones in the car, but that is not ideal especially when I have passengers. As a workaround, I have also looked at Bluetooth to Aux out adapters, but if I can get free software to fix the issue, that would be preferable.
So, long question short, for those running custom ROMs on Droid 4, what are you using for a car dock?
TIA
Droid 4 Rooted, Safestrap, triple boot: Stock 4.1.2, CM 10.2 RC, CM 11 Nightly (4.4.2)
Nexus 10 Unlocked, CWM, CM 11 M-1 (4.4.2)
Nexus 7 (2012) Stock 4.4 (kids' tablet)
I too am running into the same problem you are. I have two vehicles setup with cradles I just drop my phone in and play pandora , no hooking into the headphone jack. It sucks none of the kitkat roms or jellybean mods with the exception of myfishbear's eclipse rom can support the dock. I have been running this rom for about the last year and it recognizes when you dock the phone. I have been doing a lot of experiments with copying files such as carhome.apk or carhomegoogle.apk. It seems the APK launches the car cradle program , but there is some other file either a library or another file that detects the dock. I removed all the carcradle apks and dock apks in the eclipse rom to see if it would kill the ability to detect the dock, but when i plug it into the dock it orients the screen to landscape and the audio still plays through USB like it is supposed to. I really would like to transition to 4.4.2 but until someone can figure out the dock situation I am going to be keeping eclipse for a while.

I played around with this too, but didn't really get anywhere. Unless I was reading old news, I think that the carhomegoogle was recently put up on the play store but doesn't support any devices? With all the new google apps hitting the play store, it looks to me like google is trying to fight fragmentation by pulling some system apps out of the OS and make them able to update independently... Maybe carhomegoogle being on the play store hints at an upcoming update? At least that's what I'm hoping for...
Just to close this out and update where I ended up with this. After playing around with ROMs on my manta and maserati and learning some more, I've got it worked out pretty comfortably. Once the power cord portion of the proprietary cable gave up the fight, I broke down and bought a Bluetooth to aux adapter and I can still charge in the dock with a standard cord. I'm not using a car home app at all anymore. Instead I've setup the first home screen to the right as a car home with dialer and hangouts in the (other) dock. I'm finding Waze fun so I just launch from my homescreen. I use the stock clock/weather and the Pandora widget. That really fills all my needs driving. Now my totally custom car home is just a flick away.
As far as rotation... I found two apps on the play store, Ultimate Rotation Control and Rotation Locker with some help from G+ communities. UCR lets me switch between auto and forced auto manually with a widget or in the notification shade. Rotation Locker can force rotation and has a plug in for tasker. I'm close to where I want to be, but I really want global auto and forced rotation automatically triggered when my phone is docked. I don't have the time to invest in learning tasker right now. But I plan on using the Bluetooth and charging triggers to change the setting in these apps or maybe I can find something in frameworks? Either way, I gotta be strict with my time, I'm getting a little obsessed here. If I do figure that out I'll edit this post.
Anyway, maybe that will help somebody some day.

I'm sorry to hear there isn't really a good option for continuing to use my car dock's usb audio feature in any of the ROMs I want to use... Hopefully one day :-/
Going to take a quick look at myfishbear's eclipse rom but I'm not going to expect much :-/

Modding RP2 into "Walkman Clone"

I am no longer using my RP2 as a daily driver, so I was curious about modding android 9 (or some other ROM) and converting it into a glorified, bloatfree, slimmed down, software lite version Media Player. Anyone have some suggestions or ideas? I really don't even need any radios except for WiFi and Bluetooth since it's not carrier connected at the moment. This is just an exploratory exercise in possible futility..
