Hello !
Im using Galaxy Note 5 N920C version and experiencing huge battery draining. The main reason is Cell standby and device idle. Don't have VoLTE on my phone neither advanced calling, tried wiping cache many times and problem still goes on, i don't know what to do almost tried everything.Problem persists even with both 3G and LTE network. Any solution?

I think the problem is that the phone keeps searching for cell signal. Try finding out where it does it maybe house, work or etc. then turn the phone on airplane mode when you are there. My phone did the same thing when I was at school so I would just turn on airplane mode to save battery.
Same happened with me, I thought there is some issue with my phone.
So I sold it and bought a new note 5 and it's still same at my home.
So either put it at 2G or airplane mode.

My diamond's battery doesnt last very long as it is but where I work I dont get any signal, and seems to drain twice as fast
Is the fact its trying to constantly get signal thats doing this?
Any suggestions much appreciated....
Rom = Shaks.P v4.00
Radio = 1.09.25.23
my girl HAD the same problem too. i told her that since there's NO signal, the machine will constantly search for available networks. the only alternative to this is to either switch off the phone or put in airplane mode. by putting the phone in airplane mode, the phone will not be constantly searching. have you ever notice that using 3G network uses more juice than that of 2G? she gave it a shot (airplane mode) and the problem of battery drain no longer bugs her.
Thanks, will give the airplane mode a shot
Yes, airplane mode will stop it from searching networks because all communications are shut down.
You can also prevent the battery drainage by turning the phone off or throwing it in a glass of water
If you still want to be able to use the phone (function) you don't want to use airplane mode
Also most ROMs by default have the BEAM "Receive all incoming beams." switched on. Switching it off helps as well.
I also suggest trying other radio's and switching 3G off for phone calls....
Hi all,
I've got an annoying issue on my O2x. Sometimes when I leave it in standby for a long time (>30mins) with the screen off, the battery percentage freezes and I can't make or receive calls/sms; also mobile data stop working. If I try to activate flight mode, nothing happens. I have to reboot the phone.
Example:
Yesterday I went to sleep (battery: 73%).
I woke up after 6 hours (battery: 71%).
I used the phone for ~2 hours (battery: still 71%).
Then I noticed that Mobile Data were disabled (can't enable it) and signal was fixed to 3/4 bars (even if I tried to go somewhere w/o phone signal - still 3/4).
Tried to make calls, send sms but can't (battery: still 71%).
Tried to turn on airplane mode, it disabled Wi-Fi but nothing else happened (battery: still 71%).
At the end I had to reboot the phone. At boot, battery was 17% (the true percentage, I suppose) and everything with mobile data/signal was ok. Then I received 7-8 messages from people that tried to contact me during this "issue" time. :\
This crappy thing is happening like once a day, so please help me!!
(I'm running Leaked v20o with BB725, but I had the same issue through Topogigi/Thanatos/CM/v20L with different BBs/RILs!)
I have the same problem. Battery freezes at 37%, and I can't receive/make calls. If I reboot the phone then the battery start to show the correct charge. This happens every day. It sucks.
Well, at least I'm not the only one...
Someone told me it could be an hardware problem (battery).. So I think I'll buy a new battery as soon as possible and try... :S
I had the same issues when I upgraded my phone to the official Gingerbread release. Prior to that I was on Topogigi's ROM, which is GB as well, and never had similar problems using two different basebands (but I honestly don't remember what number they were). When I switched to CM7 I never faced this issue again, so I don't think it is a hardware problem.
why is it that if i turn my aeroplane mode on and leave my fone on standby im pretty sure it would almost last 4-5 days. where when i turn off aeroplane mode. i get 12 hours. maybe 4-5 hours if im using it.
i can probably flatten the fone in under an hour if gaming..
WHY!.
this is retarded.

Your phones signal uses a lot of battery. For a more detailed description just search on Google, as the poster above said.

lol, what is aeroplane mode?
type careful, you wanted AIRPLANE MODE
Aeroplane is English, airplane is American English.
And Android correctly says aeroplane if it is configured to use the British locale.
@OP:
Aeroplane mode turns off your mobile network and wifi completely. This is what you're supposed to do when sitting in an aeroplane, but don't want to shut down your phone completely.
I hope it is clear that it saves a lot of power if your phone has no mobile connection at all.
ok i have noticed something.
if i have no APN in my list for 3g, i dont get 3d data, but my battery lasts like AGES. compared to when i put in an apn.. why?

Mobile data uses also a lot of battery. If you disable mobile data, but keep your phone in the mobile network (so you can make and receive calls), it consumes far less power.
This is also why I would recommend never turning off wifi, even when the display is off, because wifi uses less power than mobile data and android will turn off mobile data whenever wifi is available.
good point
My cell standby is really really high and I'm nowhere near the 6+ hours SoT that people seem to be getting here. I even followed the battery optimization guide and disable all the moto features on the phone. I also changed my preferred network type from "Global" to "LTE/CDMA" to supposedly save more power.
Is anyone else having odd drain? I attached a list of the apps I disabled as well.
Cell stand bye does seem high. Silly but I'm sure you have turned phone off and fully charged to see if it remedies?
All else fails factory reset, I know it's a pain.

I charged it while it was on fully after draining it to 1% when I first bought it. I have not turned it off or charged while it was off. I'll do that later when it is around 5% after work.
How would the factory reset help? I would reinstall the same apps again anyway so if that is the problem I wouldn't know it.
I didnt mess with any network settings but cell standby is higher than screen on my battery stats. My battery life isn't bad by any means but not as good as some others are getting
I've seen this issue reported by 2-3 other users, it's either related to the cell coverage in your area or might even be a faulty radio. Cell standby is usually high on my list but still about 1/4 of the power draw of my screen (assuming my average SoT of 6 hours) and around -96dBm (3-4 bars) signal strength. Try checking your signal strength - if you don't have an app for it, do: Settings > Wireless and Networks > More > Mobile Networks > Network type and strength.
I have this issue. My signal sucks at home. Only 3 bars most of the time.

Same issue here ... Just switched to ART and I'm going to switch from global to LTE/CDMA to see if I can knock it down a bit. Reception at my work is terrible in some spots (hospital). At home its not so bad.

i have a xt1254 with locked BL and stock 6.0.1 MCG24.251-5-5. I have suffered from battery draining by cell standby since I updated to 6.0.1. Have anyone seen this and can anyone help?
Here are what I have tried but none of them works:
1. Erase cache, user erea and reflash the stock package.
2. Root, install magisk, install xposed, install mobileradioactivefix.
3. Switch to airplane mode with only Wi-Fi enabled.
I came across battery drain caused by wifi and managed to remove it after resetting network config. You may see the below page for information, and in fact quite a few similar threads are on google:
https://www.androidpit.com/android-marshmallow-problems-and-how-to-fix-them
It occurs to me that after resetting the network config, the problem will come back sooner or later that need a re-reset. And I am not very sure if it works on your cellular problem indeed. But hope the above helps.
BTW, may I take the opportunity to ask a related question, anyone using a stock up-to-date firmware (mine is BL unlocked but not rooted), and the same feeling as me that, while every part of the system show that the cellular is disabled and the device is in airplane mode, the battery performance is about the same as that when the cellular is on? My usage pattern is that, I unplugged the device at 7am, and on working day morning, I turn on cellular for less than an hour and the rest of time in airplane mode, and get to around 90% at 1pm. While I was on outdoor work that requires me to turn on cellular the whole morning, the battery level is about 88%. Given that my usage pattern in both scenarios are quite similar (minimal usage of phone during working hours and basically no voice call in the latter case), is the difference between airplane mode on and off little as that?
