Anyone using Button Savior? I love it but it doesn't seem to survive a reboot. In fact, sometimes, it seems to die even without a reboot. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a way to ensure that it's always running?
Sent from my XDA app on my Nook Color
I started using it today and have rebooted several times. Seems to actually work, whereas SoftKey didn't work as reliably for me.
I installed it via the Market. At some point, not right away, it asked for su. After that it has worked fine.

I'm another happy user of button savior. I use it on on my rooted HD2 and love it.
An update just came out for button savior, but I have never had problems with it. I do have to restart it once in awhile after a boot, but not every time. Not much to complain about because I love that some smart person actually came out with it!
I've been using it for several days and have rebooted many times. Installed via Market. So far so good.
I love button savior. I occasionally miss the button to pull up the menu because its so small but it has survived a few reboots.
I see the little button on my screen on the right but it does nothing, I cannot activate it, I have gone into the settings and I can move it from left to right but that's it, Help please

Are you sure your finger is touching it? I have trouble getting the nook to register my taps on the edges of the screen. Once you tap the icon a group of icons appear like home and back. Try reinstalling if you continue to have problems.
For some unknown reason my button savior stopped working.
The home button is working fine but back and menu buttons will work
only once and then nothing. (they will change color when I touch them but nothing happens)
Can you help - PLEASE ?
Thanks
Use SoftKeys.
It's better anyways.
I tried Button Savior and always hated that no matter where I put it, it would get in the way of something like the keyboard, or a button in a game, etc.
With SoftKeys, I can move the button anywhere I need to. And I have it at 25% transparency too
That wasn't the answer.
I'm having the same issue. I just noticed it in some applications.
I'm on 1.1 if that matters. I don't particularly like SoftKeys.
Did you disable USB debugging by any chance?
No, it's enabled but the problem possibly started after connecting nook via USB to pc
Does it have superuser priviledges? Is it shown on the Superuser white list? This is exactly what happens if it does not have superuser rights. Check in superuser app to see it is listed. If so remove it then restart it. If that doesnt work I would uninstall it, reinstall it and make sure you press allow when prompted for superuser rights.
Done all that already
Yes it's on the white list and every time allowed.
After restarting the service it works once and then it stops.
Also it looks like USB debug likes to disable it self - not sure what to do about that.
This drives me crazy
I had the same issue before. I uninstalled it then reboot and reinstalled from the market. That solved the issue. Since then it has been working for a few days. Had no idea what the problem was.

Just occurred to me that I also created CWR backup just before I noticed this
problem. Is it possible that it can damage some files ?
This has happened to me ever since I used the pre-root 1.1 method. I could get it working after a reboot and/or when I wipe the data of Button Savior using Titanium Backup. Since I can't find a consistent fix for it, I reverted back to the 1.0.1 root, and just disabled the OTA update that may be pushed into the device.

Deleting data of Button Savior using Titanium Backup finally fixed the problem for me as well.
THANKS!
Deleting data of Button Savior using Titanium Backup did not work for me. I solved my issue bu uninstalling Button Savior, rebooting, turning USB Debugging mode on and then re-installing Button Savior through the market.
It did not ask for SuperUser permissions on install, instead, I had to press an action on the Button Savior dock and it prompted me for SuperUser permissions.
Hope this helps.

i just turn off button savior service, toggle usb debugging (if it's checked uncheck then recheck), and then restart button savior service.
you can access buttons saviour's service in the app itself. kill/start service.
that way i don't lose my settings.
Unfortunately I have the same problem all over again and no matter what I do this time it refuses to work.

Same problem here using the overclocked froyo. Oddly if I force apps to close using advanced task killer then it works for a while. Until a reboot or installing uninstalling an app.
From 1.1 Nook Color with 1.1 ghz overclock
That's exactly right, if I get it to work I will NEVER reboot again
I have the same problem and to get BS to work, I have to disable and then enable USB debugging. Then I open the Button Savior settings and kill the service and then restart it. This works everytime. I think somehow the USB debugging setting is not being saved or some background process is disabling it.

Unfortunately it's not reliable fix for me
Sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn't
Any other tips ?
Thanks
It took me a while to figure out but here is what you need to do to fix it.
Go to your nooktool and go to all settings. Go into Development. Then uncheck USB debug
Then go to button Savior and disable button Savior.
Reboot
Go back in and enable USB debug.
Then enable button Savior. It should work for good now.
I think that button Savior reads from the USB debug setting upon obtaining superuser rights. So you have to make the changes first.
If that doesn't work, disable BS then unchecked USB debug then run BS again so it will write the disable USB debug change. Then disable BS again then reactivate USB debug then reactivate BS. I think you get the idea..

I've got this problem too - none of the above fixes seem to help.
Anyone got anything else to try??
I hate Soft Keys.
So this is kinda of a strange event. I used touchless to set an alarm for 10:30am, about a min later my phone restarted and I could not turn my phone off with the power button. I could hold it down for the menu, but thats it. Phone would not go off by itself, At this time I unchecked Gravitybox and restarted into recovery. I was able to turn the phone off now. Though GravityBox would not work saying framework is not responding. I uninstalled Xposed framework, redid everything and now it back to normal. Just a strange hiccup and wondering if anyone has an idea what may have caused this. Maybe when the phone first restarted it lost write and somehow caused the issue with the power button?
im using Ultimate Dynamic Navbar because when i replaced the screen on my note 4 i accidentally got too close to the buttons and cut the recent and back buttons. so they no longer work. i completely removed the buttons since i cut them. everything else works fine but for some reason when im charging the phone something is causing the back or recents button to be pressed. this only happens when im charging the phone and have the screen on. how can i disable the buttons? i already tried to do the Generic.kl commenting out (putting a # infront of each line) but that did not help (unless im not entering the the # on the correct line) and it didnt help. i still get the recent apps while charging the phone and the screen is on. anyone know of a way to disable it with another method?

Well I know that an xposed module called Xposed Additions can do it. Hopefully that will work in your case.

i tried gravity box for Lollipop on the PACMAN rom which kinda helps. the thing is that the buttons seem to have swapped so im guessing its because of the rom. before it kept pressing the recents button now its pressing the back button. i also was able to see what was going on action wise as in long presses or double taps with gravity box. it seems that long presses is the most frequent cause of this issue but i also get a few double taps and single taps randomly. i tried to select no action for these events on the back button with half luck. gravity box does not have a do nothing action so the only thing i could do was do a custom action without selecting an app. but when it gets triggered i get a toast saying no such app, due to no app selected in gravity box. this is something ill bring up to the devs of gravity box. ill check out your suggestions and will reply back with the results, THANKS FOR THE REPLY!

Yeah. Seems Xposed Additions will work then. It has actions for both Click and Long Press for all the hardware buttons with the Screen On/Off. It's basically a mod to do just that...remap the buttons or disable.
I use it to disable the Home button while the screen is off. Also to use the volume buttons for skipping songs while screen is off.

the only issue with it was that it would not save the settings when i restarted. but i did use it to see what key value back was and put a # in it and restarted. seems to have worked so far. i wonder why the additions wont stick after a reboot. hopefully if this works ill be able to choose which on screen buttons to select from the pacmans/gravity box or ultimate dynamics. each has its pros and cons.
So, I was yesterday using my phone and everything was OK. This day, I charged my phone because it was dead and couple mins later I turned it on. I unlocked it, everything looked OK, but I discovered some weird things. My recent apps and home buttons aren't working. When I press recent apps button it lits up but it doesn't do anything. Back button works. Then I saw that there are no notifications in the status bar(I have Kaspersky antivirus so there had to be its notification). And then when I swiped down to check notifications, I tried pressing settings, date and show more buttons, they didn't work either. I pressed power button to restart and in that box airplane and emergency modes buttons are not there. Plus, when I close my S View thing, there's no ...(more) and camera buttons.
Yesterday, I was looking at activities(using Nova launcher and adding a widget for activity) and tried couple, so I think I made something there bad.
My phone is G800F running Stock 4.4.2 without root. No viruses on my device.

This question is solved by myself.
I solved it!
What I did was I went to the Nova Launcher settings and then I changed default launcher to Touchwiz. After it turned on, I got everything that wasn't working now working!
