Is there an app that can automatically turn on the speakerphone when the phone is placed face down? I think this would be a pretty cool addition. Any thoughts?
Gyrator can detect when you are using the phone and turn it face down and run a keypress for you. No idea if that could be used to turn on the speakerphone though.
Neat idea until your laying on your bed talking to your gf when your wife walks in!!!
[Note]Not that I would ever do that[/Note]
Would be a neat feature though, as long as you could disable it.

Im not married, so no worries there! I just thought it would be convenient if I had to put the phone down for something then it would automatically switch to speaker.

Ok, if you like the TD2's speakerphone on flip stunt, then here's a cool tip for you...
Using Gyrator:
- Add a new "Rotation" event.
- Set application to Phone on the "Application" tab.
- On the "Orientation" tab check on "Portrait", "Face-down", and "Face-up".
- On the "Actions" tab check on "Simulate Keypress".
- Goto "Advanced" tab and select key "F16,127" which triggers the windows-native "Speakerphone Toggle event".
Done.
Now, starting NOT on speakerphone, whenever you put your phone on a level surface --facing up or down-- during a call, the speakerphone will toggle ON -> Moreover, if you pick it up it should toggle OFF. Good enough?
Cheers
P.S. You can also do the same for a "Stylus Out" event to fire when "Phone" application is focused, thereby simultaneously toggling on the speakerphone and starting up a new Note (default behaviour) whenever you take the stylus out during a call. Aren't we the lazziest lot..

Fascinating stuff. All of this customization is one of the things keeping the Fuze in my pocket still. Once in a while the bulk and weight drag me down, then I fall back in love the the ability to tinker the thing to exactly how I like it.
Directly related to this. I'd be curious to know how well the speakerphone works on a technical level when face down. I believe the speakerphone microphone is still on the front of the Fuze which I assume will negatively affect the overall performance.
I've tried this but I cant get it to work on a call out. Maybe I just put it in wrong. Let me know if you guys were able to get it to work.

I thought the microphone was at the bottom side ofthe phone. just above the USB port? Am I wrong? Thats what it looks like on my fuze.... otherwise I have no idea what that little hole is!

Yes, that is where the microphone is at. I usually turn my phone face down anyway while on speakerphone since the speaker is on the back and makes it easier to hear.

I was certain this feature was included out of the box and I had just lost it when I flashed new ROMs.
My Touch Incall Screen Tweak can perform this function - just search for it on here - its normally on the first page of this sub-forum. (not in a position to find the link, sorry).

Mate, stop reading outdated stuff! Find & use "Touch-InCall-Screen-Tweak" program, it is SUPER cool; its like magic...auto speakerphone whenever the device is not on your ear, very customizable too.

I have only had my tf701 a day but Ive noticed sometimes when docked to the keyboard if you dont touch the mouse for a few seconds sometimes when you move the mouse again it will make a flicker around where the mouse is located, it doesnt always do it, just wondering if anyone has noticed this or is it a fault with my tablet?
I can live with it, but if there is a known fix it would be nice to sort it.
Thank You
After a bit of messing about I think it only does it with live wallpapers? Which isnt a problem as I wont be setteling on a live wallpaper anyway found them far too distracting.
Would still be nice to know this is fixable though.
Thank You
I was wrong its not to do with live wallpapers, just seems to do it on some apps, for example if I go to apex launcher then settings, if I leave the mouse for 10 seconds or more than rouch to move it, it makes the strange flash across the screen.
Could anyone else please test if theirs does this?
Thanks
Asus considers it to be a feature - not a bug - and calls it "smart backlight adjuster".
For most people it goes away upgrading to 4.3 which I guess you haven't done?

Yeah I am running 4.3?
I have noticed it does it on the drawer too, only when using the dock and leaving the mouse dormant for 8 seconds or more than moving it again it sends horizontal lines across the screen for a split second, is this the bug *ahem* feature you speak of?
Thanks

Also when you say adjuster, that sounds like it would be something that requires adjusting but it still does this with screen set to full brightness, or least brightness, with auto off, also wit outdoor on or off, it still does the strange flicker.
I can happily live with it, doesnt bother me that much just dont want it to be something that is going to get worse as Im very close to unlocking the device and dont want to blow all warranty if I already have a fault.
Thanks

No what I had in mind was the screen dimming and brightening. What you describe sounds more like the "flashing black lines" the TF700 has (which seems to be due to some nvidia driver issue). I have not noticed those on the TF701 but then, I am so used to them from the 700 I probably wouldn't even notice. Have not read anything about them in the forums though, so I suspect your situation is unique.
Are you in the US? Get a Squaretrade warranty. I find the peace of mind is worth the $75 since they don't care about locked/unlocked...

Can you please test for me open your drawer, leave the mouse in the centre for 10 seconds then move it and see if it does the black lines?
Also did the issue ever get resolved or get any worse on the 700 or is it just something the user gets used to?

Don't have the keyboard for the TF701 - yet. So I can't help you with your test.
The black lines on the 700 are benign - I don't even notice them anymore. But I don't think my 701 has them, so there is a possibility that your tablet has a glitch...

I don't want to be negative here, but waiting for Asus' response is pretty useless. Their support staff has two answers for questions beyond: "Where do I find my pictures?" and they are:
a) Factory reset, and if that does not help:
b) Send it in for repair - which may or may not cost you a bundle...
If you do send it in get written confirmation that your tablet is still under warranty first and take pictures of your tablet documenting its condition, how you packed and shipped it etc.
Thanks for the replies

No it cannot be replicated when the dock is not connected or when just touching the screen with or without the dock connected, it only does it on some areas of the system such as drawer and some apps if the mouse if left dormant for 8 seconds or so then moved.
I have done a factory reset and cold boot as requested by Asus, but the problem still persists as shown here in the new video

Mine definitely doesn't do that. Try switching the cursor mode to gesture mode for me and see if that makes a difference. (I doubt it will but you never know)
Then go to the system settings, about and click the build number 7 times to enable developer mode. Then go into developer settings and look for force GPU rendering and disable hardware overlays. Check both. Reboot - any difference?
Check the cables
When troubleshooting a screen flicker, I always check the cables first. Several TechRepublic members agree. Ian C B, Bruceb, Crjordan, and Aqmike all suggested checking the video and monitor power cables before doing anything else. Ian C B reminds us to confirm that the cables are screwed in tightly and to replace the cables with new ones to see if the problem persists.
"The color changes are almost always a faulty wire in the cable," Crjordan said. "Try working the cable back and forth near both connectors. If this causes the color change, you could have a broken wire in the cable, or a loose pin in one of the connectors. Make sure the cable is out of the way (from feet, hands, and other objects). You may also try zip-tying it to itself or another stable object until you can replace either the cable or the monitor."
Check the environment
If a cable isn't the culprit, then the user's workspace should be next on your hit list. Monitors are notoriously sensitive to magnetic fields. Speakers, florescent lights, fans, cell phones, radios, and any other electrical device can cause a wide range of monitor problems. (See Figure A.) "Check what's around the [monitors]," Vilefileman said. "Cell phones are known to cause screen flickers, among other things, and plugging a radio or fan into the same receptacle can also cause screen flickers."
Maybe its like some kind of electrostatic interefereence in your environment more to do with the power being supplied to the device. Check cables. Etc. I think its interference or something.

I have noticed one other thing, it will not do the fault on first reboot, until the screen is locked, once unlocked it starts doing this fault
Gesture mode made no difference
Also done the developer options and they made no difference :crying:

I was wrong disabling hardware overlays does seem to resolve the issue?
However each time I reboot the option is un ticked that's why I thought it didn't do it

Theres not really any cables I can check, I have checked the connection is pushed in correctly which it is.
I have just tried to replicate the error outside with my phone turned off inside the house so no chance of interference and the error was still present.
Don't think this is quite the issue as it only does it when moving the mouse after leaving it on certain apps for 8 seconds.
Thank you for the help though

If you mute it, it turns that off. But then it is muted so I do not know if that is any good to you.

Most people seem to be using always on. Why? if you list your hand to look it comes on. It will make the battery last for a shorter time and what about screen burn? I may just be overthinking this.

I am worried about the screen burn-in issue. The phone based on the same P-OLED display technology G Flex suffers from this problem. I can see that the quality of GWaR's panel is improved but the burn in problem should exist as long as it's oled.
Another small thing I noticed is when you use stock watch faces, their always on screen content will randomly shift a little every minute, to avoid screen burn(so LG is aware of this problem). Thus worrying about the screen burn is not over-thinking. I turned off the always-on function when I use 3rd party watch faces. (EDIT: 3rd-party watch faces can shift itself too, seems like it's a system-wide screen saving mechanism)

Are you referring to "Theater Mode"? That turns the screen off. We want the screen to be on but in the dim state.
I'm referring to this:
In addition to "Do Not Disturb" when flipping the phone over, facing down. Is there a way to also immediately lock the phone?
You can hold the power down and select "Lockdown" (this has to be enabled in display settings first).
I need it to be automated when flipping the phone over. I often leave my phone at my desk and I don't want it to be immediately accessible.

What do you mean lock the phone? After a set amount of seconds it auto locks, face up or face down.
You are correct, the phone auto locks. I have it set to 15 seconds. I need the phone to lock immediately, regardless of the auto lock time.

Tap the power button and off it goes. If you are in a work environment where if you walk away for 5 seconds and your phone is at risk of being compromised either you need to find another job (lol) or never leave the phone on the desk. That's some serious personal insecurity right there.
The easy answer is something like Tasker to look at the gyro, ambient brightness and the proximity sensor but I don't know offhand if that requires root to lock your screen.

That probably is the EASIEST answer, but if you can flip your phone to make it turn off sound, lock, and maybe launch the sound recorder (for example), you have a discrete, potentially automatic meeting transcriber that's pretty much thoughtless.

Food for thought. But perhaps you might want to think of another device to do those things. Why would you even want a phone for those functions? A little recorder would do that with no compromise of your personal data. Pull it out of your pocket, put it on the table like a phone and you got your spy device. Phone locked away in your pocket.
Or a shortcut to the sound recorder, lock the phone, face down on the table. Unless you're an agent of some sort then you need to talk with your superiors and design something. Fun convo though.

It's fun hearing others' points of view!
But I'm thinking convenience; you've already got a phone and, with the Pixel 4's live transcription and text search, it could make for a powerful tool in this circumstance, as niche as it might be.

Yes it would. But now you're talking about automating a few different actions one of which is disabling sounds and another locking the screen. Then starting a task of recording and then turning off if the storage gets full without deleting previous recordings. All without user input. I'm not sure a phone was designed to do that. At least not these.
I suspect there are devices that can do that but that might be clandestine type stuff we are not privy to. But maybe a Tasker procedure could handle that? I don't know.
You would want a device that would start recording once voices are heard, and stop after a few minutes of silence.
I do work in an area that contains sensitive information. People entering have to leave their phones at the front desk with the phone muted. I just want to ensure that when I hand over the phone, face down, that it is immediately and automatically locked from anyone else. Simplifying that process would be great!
Please don't question the logic or rationale of my work area.

The XML here can be imported to Tasker to do what you're describing. You may find that you'll need to tweak it to better fit your usage/device, but the skeleton here should be a good starting point.
Edit: XDA didn't like my XML; here's a Google Drive link https://drive.google.com/file/d/11zxgUTwJA37Haf9rV2TbzHWaD1XJeQwx/view?usp=drivesdk
Hey guys,
Looking to up my game with automations on my phone and set ringer profiles. I have WiFi on all of the time anyway, so I'm setting ring profiles based on being at work, being at home, night, day, etc.
But I'm thinking of kind of next-leveling it, and wanted to see just where I would start, if I need add-ons for Tasker, stuff like that.
So I have only gotten around to making a 'night' routine for Tasker. IF I'm home and IF the time is in a certain range, it goes silent. That way, if I'm lucky enough to actually be out, the phone still makes sound, but not when I'm trying to sleep. The next level I would like to try is different profiles based on what I'm doing at home or at work, using NFC. More specifically, I have a wireless charging dock at my desk, and one at home. I work IT, so I spend about half of my day at the desk, and half working the office floor. The floor is a little louder than my office (OK, a LOT louder), so I would prefer a different ring volume for each.
So when docked (At the dock at work), I'd like my volume to be minimal. As soon as I take it off the dock (But still at work), I'd like it to be mid-range. Re-dock it, goes to the low volume again. Leave work, full volume.
Similar thing I'd like to try at home. Any time of night, if it's not docked (In the home dock), it's a relatively normal volume. Dock it, and the hours fit into the specified range, and it goes silent.
I'd also like to change the behavior of the screen based on these. At work, the clock is on, at home(When I'm trying to sleep), the clock is off and the screen is dark.
So I know to do this, I need NFC tags on each charger, I've looked up interference from the chargers, and it seems to be a mixed bag. I could play with where to place the tag exactly, that's not an issue, but if I'm going to automate, I'd love to do this as automated as possible, if you know what I mean. Rather than tap it on a tag, I'd love to just set it in the dock or pick it up to activate it. So that's it. Anyone have any suggestion on a brand of tag, a specific criteria I may need to look for (I don't know if these things have ratings or anything like that), and any extensions or companions I need for Tasker to do something like this? Any help, as always, will be greatly appreciated, and feel free to ask followup questions if I was unclear on anything.
I don't really see why you NFC. Assuming you know whether you're at work or home based on the WiFi, then you can know whether you are on a wireless charger based on a profile state of power -> power -> wireless.
As a completely unrelated idea, if your P4 is rooted, and the device spends a bit of time on a charger, you might look at Advanced Charging Controller (ACC) (XDA thread

Part of it is on the dock in the office vs. off the dock, walking around the office. Part of it is on the dock at home, vs. plugged into power, sitting next to the TV in the living room. Same with work. If I'm working in a conference room, I might just bring a charger and cable in there, but might still want the ringer loud. SO I'm kind of compartmentalizing both work and home, based on which area I'm in.
Part of it is also playing with Tasker, NFC tags, and all of those possibilities.
And unfortunately, a Verizon phone, so they've hosed me(As usual), and I don't think, even with it being a Pixel, that I can root it. :-
Since I think your question is, do I need any plugins to read NFC, the answer is no.

Oh wait, I see the part now about wired vs. unwired power. Got it!
I'll try that, see how it works for me.
Thanks, your basic tips have helped me. I now have a work day profile, a weeknight profile, and a weekend profile(Morning noisy time is later on the weekend), all based on whether it is charging wirelessly or not and where I am.
