In addition to "Do Not Disturb" when flipping the phone over, facing down. Is there a way to also immediately lock the phone?
You can hold the power down and select "Lockdown" (this has to be enabled in display settings first).
I need it to be automated when flipping the phone over. I often leave my phone at my desk and I don't want it to be immediately accessible.

What do you mean lock the phone? After a set amount of seconds it auto locks, face up or face down.
You are correct, the phone auto locks. I have it set to 15 seconds. I need the phone to lock immediately, regardless of the auto lock time.

Tap the power button and off it goes. If you are in a work environment where if you walk away for 5 seconds and your phone is at risk of being compromised either you need to find another job (lol) or never leave the phone on the desk. That's some serious personal insecurity right there.
The easy answer is something like Tasker to look at the gyro, ambient brightness and the proximity sensor but I don't know offhand if that requires root to lock your screen.

That probably is the EASIEST answer, but if you can flip your phone to make it turn off sound, lock, and maybe launch the sound recorder (for example), you have a discrete, potentially automatic meeting transcriber that's pretty much thoughtless.

Food for thought. But perhaps you might want to think of another device to do those things. Why would you even want a phone for those functions? A little recorder would do that with no compromise of your personal data. Pull it out of your pocket, put it on the table like a phone and you got your spy device. Phone locked away in your pocket.
Or a shortcut to the sound recorder, lock the phone, face down on the table. Unless you're an agent of some sort then you need to talk with your superiors and design something. Fun convo though.

It's fun hearing others' points of view!
But I'm thinking convenience; you've already got a phone and, with the Pixel 4's live transcription and text search, it could make for a powerful tool in this circumstance, as niche as it might be.

Yes it would. But now you're talking about automating a few different actions one of which is disabling sounds and another locking the screen. Then starting a task of recording and then turning off if the storage gets full without deleting previous recordings. All without user input. I'm not sure a phone was designed to do that. At least not these.
I suspect there are devices that can do that but that might be clandestine type stuff we are not privy to. But maybe a Tasker procedure could handle that? I don't know.
You would want a device that would start recording once voices are heard, and stop after a few minutes of silence.
I do work in an area that contains sensitive information. People entering have to leave their phones at the front desk with the phone muted. I just want to ensure that when I hand over the phone, face down, that it is immediately and automatically locked from anyone else. Simplifying that process would be great!
Please don't question the logic or rationale of my work area.

The XML here can be imported to Tasker to do what you're describing. You may find that you'll need to tweak it to better fit your usage/device, but the skeleton here should be a good starting point.
Edit: XDA didn't like my XML; here's a Google Drive link https://drive.google.com/file/d/11zxgUTwJA37Haf9rV2TbzHWaD1XJeQwx/view?usp=drivesdk

Is there an app that can automatically turn on the speakerphone when the phone is placed face down? I think this would be a pretty cool addition. Any thoughts?
Gyrator can detect when you are using the phone and turn it face down and run a keypress for you. No idea if that could be used to turn on the speakerphone though.
Neat idea until your laying on your bed talking to your gf when your wife walks in!!!
[Note]Not that I would ever do that[/Note]
Would be a neat feature though, as long as you could disable it.

Im not married, so no worries there! I just thought it would be convenient if I had to put the phone down for something then it would automatically switch to speaker.
shirreer said:
Ok, if you like the TD2's speakerphone on flip stunt, then here's a cool tip for you...
Using Gyrator:
- Add a new "Rotation" event.
- Set application to Phone on the "Application" tab.
- On the "Orientation" tab check on "Portrait", "Face-down", and "Face-up".
- On the "Actions" tab check on "Simulate Keypress".
- Goto "Advanced" tab and select key "F16,127" which triggers the windows-native "Speakerphone Toggle event".
Done.
Now, starting NOT on speakerphone, whenever you put your phone on a level surface --facing up or down-- during a call, the speakerphone will toggle ON -> Moreover, if you pick it up it should toggle OFF. Good enough?
Cheers
P.S. You can also do the same for a "Stylus Out" event to fire when "Phone" application is focused, thereby simultaneously toggling on the speakerphone and starting up a new Note (default behaviour) whenever you take the stylus out during a call. Aren't we the lazziest lot..

Fascinating stuff. All of this customization is one of the things keeping the Fuze in my pocket still. Once in a while the bulk and weight drag me down, then I fall back in love the the ability to tinker the thing to exactly how I like it.
Directly related to this. I'd be curious to know how well the speakerphone works on a technical level when face down. I believe the speakerphone microphone is still on the front of the Fuze which I assume will negatively affect the overall performance.
I've tried this but I cant get it to work on a call out. Maybe I just put it in wrong. Let me know if you guys were able to get it to work.

Yes, that is where the microphone is at. I usually turn my phone face down anyway while on speakerphone since the speaker is on the back and makes it easier to hear.

I was certain this feature was included out of the box and I had just lost it when I flashed new ROMs.
My Touch Incall Screen Tweak can perform this function - just search for it on here - its normally on the first page of this sub-forum. (not in a position to find the link, sorry).

Is it supposed to continuously flash even when there is nothing to report? My phone will flash an active notification so long as it is face up (then gain I can't tell when it is face down) even if there is nothing to report. It will just flash the key/lock pad.
I think it does that when it sense some sort of vibration and thinks the phone has been moved slightly. I noticed it when it was in my generic car dock while driving.
I think it's meant to do that in order to act as a sort of notification led. I personally like how it turns on occasionally so I can glance at it while it's sitting on a desk and see any notifications

Mine does that, although I think it has to be activated. It seems really sensitive to being moved at all (not a problem IMO since it doesn't use much battery). I don't think it is supposed to do that without it sensing some sort of movement though. I also find it helpful to just be able to glance over and see if I have a text.

This is flashing even though there isn't anything to report. That's why I find it odd. There is nothing to report, so why is it flashing?

Because you bumped the phone and the accelerometer detected movement, and it thinks you may want to unlock the phone.
This is the feature that enables you to pick the phone up off the table and unlock it without pressing any physical buttons.

If you mute it, it turns that off. But then it is muted so I do not know if that is any good to you.

I am worried about the screen burn-in issue. The phone based on the same P-OLED display technology G Flex suffers from this problem. I can see that the quality of GWaR's panel is improved but the burn in problem should exist as long as it's oled.
Another small thing I noticed is when you use stock watch faces, their always on screen content will randomly shift a little every minute, to avoid screen burn(so LG is aware of this problem). Thus worrying about the screen burn is not over-thinking. I turned off the always-on function when I use 3rd party watch faces. (EDIT: 3rd-party watch faces can shift itself too, seems like it's a system-wide screen saving mechanism)

Same thing here, it should be a fundamental control to turn this feature off. I'm a little worried about battery life on mine too, for some reason I'm just barely squeaking 24 hours on a full charge with no more than 12 notifications per day???

Are you referring to "Theater Mode"? That turns the screen off. We want the screen to be on but in the dim state.
I'm referring to this:
Hi guys! All new to this site. I just got a z3c and everything is really great, but for 2 things:
The screen response is so poor, that if it can't be fixed, I'm returning it. Deal breaker.
Whenever I tap something, the screen responses in about 1 second. That is too long. Way too long.
Any of you tried the "Don't tap the white tile" app? (it's a game, where you have to be fast on your fingers) If you have (or you think, that your phone is NOT slow, please give it a go)
The swiping seems to be ok, it's the tapping that's delayed!
I'm hoping that it's just my phone and it can be replaced, 'cause otherwise I will have no choice, but to find another one.
Also is it not possible for me, to decide wether or not an app can have acces to internet? On iPhones you can manually dissable every app from using the internet, both wifi and regular. This can also prove to be a deal breaker for me.
I hope you can help me to find out if I should keep this, apart from that stuff, really wonderful phone or if I have to go back to iPhone, which I don't want to actually.
Regards Kokinos, Denmark
"Whenever I tap something, the screen responses in about 1 second." - that is definitely not normal. I am playing Wordz and screen response is instant.
There are many apps to control permission (e.g. Internet) for individual apps, but it requires root - APP OPS is the best. But you might try this, which works without root: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.netspark.firewall&hl=en or this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmail.permissionmanager&hl=en

Thanks a lot, Dave! I'm so pleased to hear that, I will take it to the store and ask for a replacement then
-funny thing is, if I tap really hard, as in so hard the pixels round my finger turn black and I'm holding on to the phone with the other hand so tight, that it's on the verge of breaking, it IS possible to get the phone to react a, almost, once.
But swipe seems to work alright. I can't understand that. I actually thougt it was a software flaw and not a hardware one. But maybe I'm wrong.
I'll read into your links. My boyfriend might be able to understand a little more of it, so he'll help me
Nobody, that have noticed a delay on tapping, but not swiping?
Anybody I can convince to try the "Don't tap the white tile" game? It's free. I can play it fine on a iPhone, but on my Z3c the screen doesn't react fast enough. Unless I tap so hard, the pixels around my finger turn black and that can't be healthy for the phone.
It's not, that this game is important, it's just, that it shows very accurate, wether your sceen has delay or not.
That white tile game is the piano kind of game from Cheetah game studios? In case I just tried it and no issues with the screen response while tapping. It's more likely that you have a faulty device :/

Thanks for your not so helpfull comment. I would certainly NOT have pressed that hard, if it weren't for the fact, that I either would return it or have a replacement. Luckily I'm located in Denmark. We have excellent consumer rights. Otherwise I would be stupid to have done so.
For the life of me I cannot use my N6 no-handed, even for just a moment. The 5-10 seconds I need to hold my phone up between my shoulder and my face to free both hands.......it never fails that I cause an issue with a live phone call. Obviously the larger screen (larger touch-sensitive area) and the screen being on for some reason during the call.......I always either put the phone call on hold, or even put the current call on hold and manage to dial one of my starred contacts. It is driving me up the damn wall. I am not a huge fan of the L phone interface (the starred favorites especially), I much prefer the KK layout.
Anyone else having as hard of a time as me? I'm wondering if the screen being off during the call would cure this. I guess I could manually cut it off when going to no-hands.......but figured it should do it on its own. Anyone care to either give me some suggestions, or even punch me for my ignorance and tell me what I am doing wrong?
Love everything about the phone, and also loving LiquidSmooth.......just hoping the development gets into high gear soon.
The screen is suppose to be off during calls, that's what the proximity sensor is for. Are you sure you are not hitting the power button while in call, i find it to be sensitive??If its not turning itself off when you put it up to your face, flash back to full stock. Still not working, then its probably a hardware issue???

I forgot to reply I had this issue while stock as well. I wasn't looking to 'fix' this issue with a different ROM either, I just like the capabilities and development done in the ROM's themselves. Can't say I didn't hope something would change though.....
