I have make small app, which switching off screen.
Instant, without any waits or faking switching off by set brightness to zero.
It's simulate pressing of power button.
Maybe this one will be interest for somebody
root needed
Nice! I'd be more interested if you could do unlock via soft keys as we had in Hero , i.e. home and menu, as I find the power button is too recessed for easy access.
Not sure if softkeys would be too easy to trigger by mistake tho ??

There is a hack for this but the menu key etc on the hd are not active when the screen is locked so it doesn't work. I did it today but you have to press power then the keys become active and you can use menu etc to unlock. Pointless as you still need to use power button first. The hero's keys were hard buttons as is the desire. It worked great on the desire. Unless anyone knows a way to have them active while locked? My power buttons a nightmare as it's not very clicky and really recessed. My wife's hd power button is much easier to use. Anyone know a way to have the soft keys active all the time?

Thanks for this app, i was waiting for.
Power button isn't as practical as your app to power down the phone.
Thank you mate.
Very Nice.... I like it.
But can you please Chance the Icon for me?
Im not able to do this myself.
I would like something like that.
Back and white with a bit gray or shaded would be very nice

In technical terms,yes- it would circumvent the process of having to use one's digit to find aforementioned hard power button and then depress said button.

Lol, maybe I didn't want the technical version after all. Dumb it down so I can understand. I'm have it installed but I don't see it doing anything. I have an Evo. How does this work (explain normal).
r0cky.Da.3v0.SU.
Its just a app to lock the phone and turn the screen off. Not sure if it works on evo
Ok thanks buddy, Uninstalling.
r0cky.Da.3v0.SU.
Dunno if this is doable but have you seen the screen lock on the new nexus that was seen at recent web 2.0 summit. Its kinda like the effect you get when u turn off an old crt TV. Could you implement that instead of the current fade effect? Ta
here i send you the perfect icon for me.
I hope you can do this. This would be very great.
Can you make the white corners transparent?
If you cant please make it black...
Im looking forward to you work

Thank you exidler for this useful app. I am just wondering if you can make use of the accelerometer sensor to turn off the screen ( for example by putting the phone upside down) . Thanks again.

i also agree ! that would be a perfect app and since most people do not check their sms upside down it would also be extremely practical
+1

Or like they say vol+ powerbutton.

I'm afraid this just is not true. Perhaps it's meant to be, but it does not work on stock Cyanogenmod on my Galaxy Note N7000. None of the method suggested works (not Power/hold, not Vol-/Power, and not Vol+/Power). Some sites have suggested that Power/hold gives you a menu which includes Screenshot, but that also is not true.
Does anyone have a solution which works?

Volume down + power works just fine. If you still have issues, then you could activate the screen shot in power menu.

Volume down + power button works on cm 10.2 nightly.
Also work "hold power button and select screenshot", but you have to enable it on settings(at power menu in Buttons )

Unfortunately that does not work either: whichever button is pressed first performs its usual function, and holding both of them just results in the lock/power-off window.

I don't have any entry for screenshots in the power-button menu. And I don't have any config menu called Buttons where I can enable anything. Where is this Buttons menu? There is a Button Action menu in General, but Screenshots is not one of the available settings.
in cm 10.2 -> settings->buttons->power menu-> screenshot(put a check mark)
i dont know if 10.1 have or not this.

i don't think it's available. i checked the menu with a regular S5 and while you've got the haptic feedback settings there, they are missing in the S5 mini...so...we're left out there
Someone got it to work for the S3 Mini, maybe it also works with the S5 Mini:

Written as above - does not work
Just found out a little tip which many of you might already know. If you are missing the menu button, especially for outdated apps like the xda app, you can still access it. The note 4 replaced the menu button with recent apps button, but if you long press the recent apps button you will get to the menu function.
That is all. Have a good day.

Thanks for that. I was using a friends S5 last night and that was driving me mad. My note 4 is at home waiting for me to open the package
If they completely removed it, then yes but holding task switcher for a couple of more seconds then it doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that I have to hold the back button every time to access Multi window bar as app switcher only has opened apps.

You are welcome. It would have been a nightmare had it gone forever. Not all applications have that on screen menu button.

Its not about missing it just because you prefer to press the physical button. There are many apps which don't have the soft menu button. For example, go to Google Now and try to change the settings, but don't long press. Good luck with that.

There is. There is no way Google didn't implement soft menu button when they themselves are pushing on screen nav bar and soft menu buttons. Open Google now and it's bottom right corner. Might need to scroll all the way down. That might be the only annoying thing about it but it's there and very easy to access.

I agree with what your saying. But you've picked 2 really bad examples. You can get to menu without menu button in xda!
I am used to Android tablets which don't have the menu button anyway, so I don't miss it on the phone.

People should have read the manual by now...
With the new update for S10 you can customize the Bixby butto to open other stuff.
I want to program the button to automatically drag down the notification bar.
Does anyone has an idea how to do that?

I think you need to check out this thread here:

From there, the developer would probably be able to assist you much faster.
