Is this possible to install a tmobile stock rom on the at&t note 3 or will the locked bootloader prevent this? just curious as i'm gonna be moving to tmobile for the unlimited LTE and would like to use the stock apps as well with it. Does anybody know if this is possible? I looked around a little bit and couldn't find any information on doing this.

1. This should be in the help section
2. I've flashed verizon roms on my note 3 without a problem so it's possible. All you'll have to do is update your APN settings. It can't hurt to try it, that's the point of safestrap!
Yeah I'm not rooted so was wondering if the tmobile rom via Odin would fail or not

I just opened my T-Mobile S6 and updated to 5.1.1 G920T1UVU2COF9.
Do you have any idea on how to downgrade?
Root?
Flash ROMs?
are you on TMOBILE or METRO PCS? Just curious really - the stock rom you mentioned is the official release from METRO PCS G920T1 - back when the S6 was first released a number of people on TMO flashed the Metro PCS Stock rom to help simplify unlocking the SIM - so it should be compatible with either TMO or Metro PCS phones..
If that stock release is anything like the latest TMOBILE - yuo cannot go back to the previous version - but you might be able to root it using the odin flashable Uni-Kernel here - GOOD LUCK
they are clearly testing something @ T-Mobile, because someone else reported getting G920TUVU20F8
yours is 0F9
Screenshot btw?

Make sure to use the newest version of odin to flash these. Bootloader goes in BL slot and modem goes into CP slot, also uncheck auto reboot in options and reboot phone manually once its done flashing. :good:

I am on COF9 because I needed to SIM unlock as well, and I'm rooted and use TWRP 2.8.7.1. Currently running XtreSoLite 2.2 but disappointed because I do not have WiFi Calling or VoLTE. I'm guessing it's because MetroPCS doesn't offer either. I'm currently trying to find a way to keep SIM unlock and have VoLTE and WiFi calling for when I swich back to my T-Mo SIM. Don't know anything about COFB and not sure there's any benefit to going through all the ridiculous hoops just to upgrade. Anyone else know?
I've got the ODIN for COF9, but it's massive.. like 3.6gb and not sure where to post. I spent probably 6 hours downloading from sammobile. It sucked.
No, I just changed it to model 920i.
Try a few things, but that T-Mobile I found no ROMS or anything, so I gave up on it.

Try talking with @stifilz2 he can sim unlock s6 tmo variant. I was running g920t1 because of the unlock code. But i flashed tmos latest update and bootloader was updated so i was sim lock again and stock with new update. So stifilz helped me aout it took him 4 min and he unlocked my phone (again) and he only ask for small donation...

Are people still working on cracking the AT&T G870A or is it a lost cause?
If yes, how's it going?
I had a G870F but sent it swimming on 20m deep for three weeks. Needless to say it didn't survive.
Found the G870A and thought it was a bargain, however . . .
Pretty much a lost cause, most devs have moved on.
So the answer is not so straight forward. The current v 5.1 and above for the AT&T phones are not currently rootable. If you find a used or remanufactured S5 or S5 Active with 4.2 you will be in luck. I just had a problem with my Active found a replacement on the most popular buying and selling web site for around $230. Just make sure it has not been updated. If the seller is advertising it as 4.2 and you get it with 5.0 they must take it back if it's not what was advertised. Hope this helps.
If you want an S5 to tinker with you should get a tmobile variant the SM-G900T, or the international SM-G900M since the active model is basically a carrier exclusive they dont have any international ones that im aware of.
I dont understand the question of OP
I used a popular search and found rooted firmwares for the 870A.
Several people who replied have in their sigs that they have a rooted s5 Active..... I would think that to mean the phone has been "cracked" and isn't a lost cause.

so its isn't the android version per say bu the bootloader that comes with it?
So one couldn't just flash a 5.0 firmware, is that what you're also saying?
pardon my ignorance, but when one flashes a firmware -- that wont impact the bootloader will it...

When you update the firmware, it automatically updates the bootloader. Once that bootloader has been updated, it's locked down. No downgrading firmwares, rooting, or installing custom recoveries.

Yeah, that's basically what I gathered after a lot of research online.
Some claim it can be done but when trying the method/software, it doesn't work.
I just wanted to double check since there is a lot of expert knowledge in this forum.
One thing i've been thinking though (not that I can do it): how about picking the phone apart
and wiping/replacing the bootloader manually?

Well it's soldered to the board. You would need some highly specialized equipment to do it. Even then I'm not sure.

Is this the case with both the G900A and the G870A. I'm in the market for either one since they are going for just of $200 new on Ebay. Are both phones now locked down of is the Active more problematic?
Both are locked down. AT&T and Samsung are being jerks to us and not even letting us have a developer phone to try to use like Verizon had.

If you are looking to root, then buy one that still has Android v4.4.2. They are available you just have to look for them. Don't put the SIM card in until you root or it will auto update and you can't go back.

Nope can't because of locked bootloader. The best thing you could do is too root with towelroot and then flash safestrap and install a custom rom from there.

That is what I thought. What are the custom rom options? Is there a rooted marshmallow rom for the s5 i can install?
Also according to these articles it is possible:

I'm guessing they may not be correct?

You can look in Galaxy S5 Android Development.
It would be helpful to know if it is possible to root and install twrp on the latest firmware (sept 1st security update - pie) or if something changed to make the method described here incompatible. I have a 950F exynos with vietnam csc. I rooted both my Note 2 and Note 4, so i have some experience with rooting.
I am ready to root now as i want to install mods to improve the camera, but don't want to face a nightmare of a boot loop and ending up having to reinstall everything and still have no root, no twrp, or a bricked phone. I posted on the root thread but it seems dead. Can anyone with similar firmware who has recently rooted successfully shed light on the status of the root method? I'm on N950XXXS7DSHC. Thanks!
I have no problems at all with mine. N950F (Same as yours) converted to T-Mobile US N950U basically. While still having unlocked sim (Unlocked for any carrier), No bloatware and I did not do any camera mods. I have hads every note from the Note 3 to Note 9. So i have no issues with the stock camera. Only i changed was my CSC so i can get video calling, Caller ID etc. Still stock firmware 9.0, Don't care about Spay (Use google pay if i had to) and that's pretty much it. If you do root good luck.
Thanks for the response. Did you first root on the update i mentioned? In the root thread i read comments from people trying to root the first time after recent updates who got problems, boot loops. My question is to know if these updates change the root situation. When did you root your phone?

Sorry for the late response guys. I did not convert my phone from a n950f to n950u. It still is a n950f exynos version not the Snapdragon one. only thing I have in the phone that is modified and I guess I'm the one reason I rooted the phone is so I can have the T-Mobile firmware on there cause I use MetroPCS (T-Mobile mvno). I still have two dual SIM function and I still have the international unlocked version compared to the US version where you have to get it unlocked or you have to pay to unlock or whichever. If that explains it.

The question I have is how did you do this? Also I am on cricket which is a at&t mvno and I want to be on there firmware, mine says that it is from uae and everything even Bixby is in European so weather is spoken in C° not F°. There are other stuff that irritates me.

I changed the CSC to T-Mobile. So I can have things like video calling (Kinda buggy sometimes), VoLTE (Which works just like a Metro phone (HD sometimes HD+), And my boot logo is T-Mo. Why do you wanna be on there firmware? You have to search up the CSC for AT&T so you turn your UAE phone into a US in a way. Why don't you just go into the weather app or bixby and switch to Fahrenheit (You know you can do that)

Please excuse my persistence or lack of understanding but I'm not clear on your answer to the question I raised originally. You say your phone is the same as mine but not explicitly that you rooted after updating to the same firmware I'm running (N950XXXS7DSHC). I do know it was possible to root from earlier firmwares. If I hadn't updated and read anecdotal reports of serious problems trying to do it from the current firmware, I would have rooted my phone right away.
I know also that people make mistakes in rooting frequently, so reports of problems are not evidence that the root method doesn't work. Even with serious problems, there are often workarounds. The problem is the Dr. Ketan root thread seems inactive, so the last comments there all report problems that weren't answered, nor was my own question that I also posted there. I would just like confirmation from anyone who has rooted after updating to the current firmware. Did you root your phone on N950XXXS7DSHC? Sorry again if you thought you answered that.
Good question. Sorry
@Dumbo53 I was also looking for advice about this, but since no one seemed to really be giving a clear answer, I went with this. It's basically stock without all the issues of a custom ROM, while still having root. I wasn't willing to risk updating and not being able to root on the latest, so this was a good compromise.
is there a root method for my device? Like the title describes, this is the model of my phone and yes the OEM unlock option is available. If one of you lovely people could point me in the right direction please, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Use the same method all the other s10+ users use lmao..
I mean all you need really is patched firmware then flash in ODIN.
If you want to get adventurous you could try the closest models twrp.img but if it blows up then it's not my fault.
Theres also twrp threads and multiple twrp groups on telegram that you're probably better suited to get your help there.

i have no idea.. it doesnt really matter since all the same phones are typically locked on other carriers.. i.e. u cant get a unlocked g975u on sprint or any other carrier..
i also have no idea what the "best carrier" would be for you..
All Great Minds,
Sorry for posting a question unrelated to rooting here, but I assume those who can root this phone would know something about its hardware well.
I was so excited to learn SM-G977P's bootloader can be unlocked until I realized Sprint is a CDMA company. My carrier is T-Mobile, which is based on GSM. Then I came across several guys on eBay selling this model and claiming it would work with T-Mobile/AT&T.
When a phone is built for a CDMA company like Sprint, how does it even work with a GSM network like AT&T or T-Mobile, even if it is carrier unlocked? Unless of course the hardware on this phone supports both technologies. Can someone please confirm if this is a dual band phone?
Secondly, if the hardware to support GSM is there, after it is unlocked from Sprint, do I have to flash a new ROM for T-Mobile in order to get on their GSM network?
Thank you
