[Q] Re-locking the Bootloader after availing Root access is possible?? - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

Dear all,
As far as my understanding goes, unlocking the bootloader will disable data encryption making the device less secure; will it then be possible to relock the bootloader after gaining root access, i.e. use a device with full root functionality with a locked bootloader??
Thank you!!
Cheers!

No, it won't disable data encryption unless you intentionally do it by doing "format data" in TWRP (or any other means with similar purpose).

[Q] Can root lead to unlocked bootloader?

Since root has been achieved will this aid in unlocking the bootloader? Did it ever happen with the S5?
Root and bootloader unlock are two very different things tbh. Just because we have root doesn't mean it'll help unlock bootloader. Only thing is that maybe the devs attention will be turned to BL now that they don't need to worry about root.

Ok, I didn't know if having greater access to the system would help with the bootloader issue. Thanks!
Finding root gives you elevated access to the file system. To get a customer recovery, the bootloader must be modified (which requires root to access). But, to modify our locked bootloader to put on a customer recovery, you'll needs it's encryption key. Without it, no changes can be made and the 'chain of trust' is broken and the phone won't boot.

Cerebrus Anti Thert

I have a question, I know if I root my device, modify a couple of things, unroot and relock the bootloader it will probably stop me from booting my device because it was tampered, the thing is, can I temporarily root the phone just to install Cerebrus then unroot it and lock the bootloader?
This would be killer because without the OEM Unlock option and with Cerebrus as a hidden system app, you have full on Anti theft which is what I want in the first place.
it most likely won't work and if if it did you will no longer receive OTAs

Is deeb data recovery possible on P20 with locked bootloader?

All data recovery apps & software requires "root access" in order to make deep data search.
My bootloader is locked.
Is it possible to gain root access just for the above scope?
e.g. is there any root method without flashing the phone that gives root access?

how to keep data while unlocking bootloader

hi, i wanted to unlocked the bootloder of my note 8,
is there any way to retain data and unlock bootloader?
or create a image of /data to restore later?
i just need my data to survive any how.
Not really, you need good backups.
AFAIK you need a custom recovery, meaning an unlocked bootloader, to create a full partition backup, there are people claiming you can make a partial backup through adb but I've never tried it.
Just back as much of your data as you can to google and make a local backup file from settings and every app that has that option and hope you won't loose much.

Simple answer: NO.
Bootloader is locked for security purpose. When you unlock it you get a back door(kind of). Which gives you access to data and other stuffs. That is why backing up data before unlocking bootloader is not possible.
But you can backup photos, videos, whatsapp chat things like these.

Question How to lock bootloader without factory reset?

I've an unlocked bootloader on stock MIUI. I know how to lock the bootloader but this does a factory reset. Is there a workaround so I don't lose all data?
I've seen some older posts for unlocking without losing data, by NOT clicking reboot but turning phone off and on.
Anyone? Thanks heaps.

AFAIK you really can't relock bootloader without format data. Either lock it and face format data or keep it unlocked and move to a custom ROM. There are many ways to backup your data but the best method for me is backing up through PC or SD card. If you're worried that having bootloader unlock can prevent you from using certain apps then you can always root and (somewhat) hide that.

Thanks. I've moved away from custom ROMs as it's just too time consuming for me.
Google Pay doesn't work when the bootloader is unlocked. Yes, I can install Magisk and Magisk Hide, but with Magisk installed OTA are no longer possible.

Still possible but the method is now manually flashing instead of just download and reboot.
