My P9 somehow can't play high-framerate videos on YouTube (720p60, 1080p60).
So it decide to play best quality that is available, 480p.
The problem seem to cause by high-framerate since it play 720p30, 1080p30 just fine.
I ask others for the problem and some of them doesn't have the issues (some of them does).
Even we're running on the same P9 firmware version EVA-L19C636B168 and on the same YouTube version 11.29.53.
Anyone found the issues?
Sorry for my bad English.
With the youtube app without problems, the video starts at 480 but after some seconds when it get buffer plays at 1080p
pd. May be is possible that you must open the youtube menu (3 vertical buttons at top right) and select 1080p (or auto) in quality option.
There are no 720p60, 1080p60 in the quality option.
I also turn off Limit HD on mobile data as well.

Hi guys, I'm sorry if this has been discussed in another thread, but I've been digging into this for about 2 hours now, and found nothing. I have a backup galaxy s advance, that I recently flashed with a cm 11 rom, and I'm not sure, but I'm under the impression that before with 4.1.2 stock, I could watch 480p videos on youtube, now the maximum resolution is 360p, and it's kinda pixelated. My question is....stock, is 360p the maximum resolution supported ? Also, is there any mod/fix whatever that can force youtube to go to 480p ? From my limited knowledge a 800x480 display should be 480p compatible, but please correct me if I'm wrong I've tried to modify the pixel density from build prop, but with no effect. Any help would be much appreciated
somewhere on the internet I read that Youtube does this restriction when you use HDMI connection to the screen.
I used to have very nice HD streaming for long time but after one of the app updates it is restricted, nothing else changed. I tried even to compare how it looks on my laptop. same video is showing full hd on laptop while on android it shows 360p max.
so by the experience I have it is definitely youtube app which restricts the options!!!!!!!
On stock (and stock based roms) you can watch 480p videos.
On KitKat you can't.
But you could try alternative apps like this one for 720p videos.
ALSO you can use this module in XPOSED called YOURTUBE you can change the resolution of the playing video ( i have not used it myself but the dev has mensioned it in module info)
Thanks for the suggestions guys
Since our stock camera app does not have framerate settings, I tried to download Open Camera. When I set 24fps framerate, and hit record, it says, device does not support this framerate.
Anyone knows what other video recording apps that can support 24fps or is it a problem for our OP3T? I was actually planning to make a short film using this device.
Anyone?
Filmic Pro works fine so don't worry that the phone doesn't support 24fps.
Hello,
I have noticed when I use the youtube app to upload videos, the video quality changes to 480p whenever the video is uploaded. I have tried setting the camera app to 1080p 60fps and UHD and changing the settings for upload quality in the youtube app, neither helped. This happens when uploading on either wifi or mobile data. Anyone knows whats going on?
Thanks
The issue you're having is solved in the YouTube app. Click on your profile picture in the top right hand corner then the settings option, next choose general and then upload quality. Choose original and what ever resolution you recorded in will be how it is uploaded. Hope this helps mate

i have tried that, it doesn't solve the issue
It is definitely related to the youtube app. No idea how to fix it. What I have noticed is when I watch an uploaded video using any mobile device via youtube app, then the video is in 480p quality, but if i use my PC to watch it, then the video is in the original quality that it was recorded in. Whats going on here?
Same problem
I have same problem. But video quality is 480p even on computer. I uploaded one video more than week ago and it is ok. Three more videos in last 3 days show only in 480p. Backup to google photos is in 1080p.
So problem is only with videos in portrait mode. In landscape it is uploaded in 1080p. I try upload same video to vimeo and it shows 1080p on PC, but quality in android app is lower (i don't see in app setting button to change it).
Hi friends, i have a problem while watching 60fps and 4K videos in Youtube. When i set resolution to 1080p 60fps and increase video speed the video starts to lagging and loses smoothness. I try this on Youtube vanced and official youtube app and result is same.
Also in 4k i have same problem.
I am waiting for your answers.
My device
Huawei P20 Pro CLT-L09
9.0.0.163
Latest youtube vanced,
4K 60Fps HDR - 1,5x playback speed (although purpose of 60fps was for slower playback to be honest)
all work fine.
Is your battery saver on ?
Could be down to your Internet speed and not your phone. My phone doesn't have any issue with playback lag at higher resolution and frame rate.

I have no problem on 1x speed but when i switch to 1.5x or 2x video loses smoothness. When i enable performance mode sometimes fix issue. But still i don't understand the reason of this issue
Hello , I have the same problem. Still on 8.1.0.156. Using std youtube or vanced.. when in portrait the video looks awesome and smooth. On full screen becomes laggy and slow in 1080p60. I would like to add it to game suite app but you can't. Still looking for a solution....
SOLVED. Was using Fluid Navigation Gestures App and that was causing the lag in Youtube Vanced. Just add YT to blacklist and now works fine.
The problem is your hardware not the device, To fix this you have to go in developer options in settings and turn disable Hardware overlay on. if you dont have this option update your device, if this also does not work get a new device.

Hi, having same issue on 1080p, already tried turn disable HW overlay on. Didn't fix it
Hi,
When I record a video (with stock camera app) in 4k that is longer than a minute in the photos app it laggs (1-4 fps), the sound is playing normally. When I try to play a 30 sec 4k video it runs smoothly. In other resolution everything is fine.
But, when I play that video in an other app (like Filemanager's built in video player) it is fine.
I deleted app data, and cache, still doesn't work.
I also tried to record a 4k 1 minute long video, wich is about 300MB, then I recorded a 10 minute video in FullHd wich is 1.6 GB, the FullHd video runs smoothly, so I don't think it is a problem with size. What could be the problem?
Same here brother. After i stabilized the video the vudeo become choppy. Or if I see recorded 4k video the video stuck at some piont and show like slidesjow of photos.
For the last 2 days, that is what i am frustratingly suffering. It was not sth existing a few days ago. I was wondering what caused this and saw your post. Appreciate all kinds of recommendations.
If anyone have a solution please let me know, I still have this problem. After June update all of my 4k videos are broken and I can't play them in Google photos.
Are you sure it happens only with videos longer than 1 min? I have the same problem but it's random.
Sometimes videos longer than 1 or 2 minutes play OK, sometimes very short videos lag.
Haven't tried less than 4k, though.
Super annoying - using VLC now.

I am facing the same problem
Hi, so I tried a few things, and it works.
Disable the app. If it asks to replace the app with the factory version click "ok". After that, enable the app, and DON'T update it, even if it asks to.
This worked for me, no problem at all, the 4k works, the slowmotion videos can be played without stopping too.
@Thuyamo so you lost the improved interface, dark mode and all that?
I am just afraid it will cause sync problems or something.

I'm currently on version 4.11, the newest in play store is 4.19 so it's not that old. For me this downgrade didn't cause any sync problem. Since the screen is so dim I don't want to make it harder to see stuff on my phone outside the house?, so I don't use dark mode at all. But yes, I lost the dark mode feature. The improved interface is there, I didn't lose it.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
I'm on 4.18.0.250747830 version, 1st play of recorded video was playing normally, smooth, but 2nd and so on lagging like hell

Try the second or the third one, please let me know if it works.
I don't care if it is working or not, to play videos I'm using MX Player Pro.
I created ticket [9-1423000026724] with Google One Support. Let's see how that goes.
Guys, this is a secret so SHHH don't tell anyone.
HTML:

(Because, I mean, who in their right mind uses Google-anything. Just joking, but srsly.)
Ok, here is an update on ticket [9-1423000026724] with Google support.
Long story short, they said Google Photos cannot play 4k videos.
So I said that was not true and sent them screenshots of Photos running on an iPhone and on a Motorola Android phone, including the information pop-up that shows the video resolution.
They replied they did all they could and closed the case.
I am so dissapointed with their service. I did not expect a quick solution, but I thought they would acknowledge the bug.
What do we do now? I think opening more tickets with them is all we can do. Hope you guys can help me on that.
