i need help!This Morning i went to a Swimming Pool,i did some photos and videos with my friend underwater,but when i pull it out from the pool,it doesn't turn up :crying:.I tried all the combinations with the buttons,but nothing to do. I though the water was inside the phone,so i left it on the sun for like 15 min.When i took it ,there was steam on the camera and on the front camera,i tried again all the combinations but nothing again,so i left it on my bag.When I came home,i plugged the phone to the charge with the magnet,nothing,with the USB cable instead,the phone showed a red led blinking but at least the steam was almost disappeared and like a STUPID ,i left it again to the sun ,infact when i took it from the sun there was the steam again!The last thing i did was to left it on the rice for fews hours and next i plugged to the USB again,same thing with the red led blinking.I tried again all combinations,the PC Companion Repair and the Flashtool.So after this ,i think the phone is dead. :crying:
Can I send it to repair to the warranty and how can i know if the warranty ended?
Please Help!

P.S. When i press the upper part of the phone,it does a strange noise.

Your phone is water damaged, sadly the only way to properly fix it is to send it in for warranty, you could have a look on the my sony website and see how long your warranty is for.
Best advice, is to leave it in rice, in an airtight container, in the sun, for at least a day or 2.

Yup, open the flaps and close the container or the rice will absorb the ambiant air moisture (also put the container in an hot place speeds up the process)

Hi All,
Unfortunately my other half has managed to, quite accidentally, spill orange squash onto my X1.
The phone still works except for the buttons on the front of the device, ie the panel button, and the directional button.
They respond but do not do what they are supposed too. For example, pressing right on the directional pad seems to bring up the phone app, left doesn't appear to do anything.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I have left the device to dry out in the airing cupboard over night and I am hoping that when I get back in from work it will (magically) be working again.
You shouldn't have used it after the spillage.
The right steps are too turn it off, remove the battery, let it dry for a couple of days and then turn it on.
I don't know what the effects would be in your case...
P.S. It wasn't accidental. Trust me.
well orange juice is sticky, but i once "stepped" into a small pond and everything from my belly downwards stood underwater for about 3-4 sec. including my X1 in my pocket.
i exitedly turned it on, though i knew i shouldn't do that and I saw a load of colours and it tried to boot but got stuck.
well i thought it was ****ed up and already searched for a new mobile. but then after 2-3 days it recovered. first it booted, but the touchscreen was still broken. then everything recovered, even my battery still works perfectly.
my 2 "water indicators" inside my phone and battery are red now

Sorry for the OT, but where exactly are the water indicators? Have only been able to find the battery one.
Ah bugger, I have taken it back to O2 today and they have sent it off for repair.
I claimed I knew nothing about why it failed.
Oh well, it should be covered under my insurance if need be. (Well it better bloody be, I have had it long enough with nary a claim to my name)

Hello all (first post here) I had a water spillage on my x1 and after looking for advice i came across something that worked. half Fill a bowl with uncooked rice and put the x1 in to the rice( take out the battery first). then poor more rice on the top of the phone. the rice will absorbe the moisture from the phone and this should help the phone to dry out. tried it with mine and it worked. everything was working fine but the m button on the keyboard. since then i took the phone apart and cleaned the keyboard and its back working fine. hope this helps or if not has made people laugh as it sounds so stupid it may just work as i did for me!

Actually, using rice is not a stupid idea - at all!
It is known to absorb moisture, go ahead and ask your grandmother (if you still have one), in the old days, when silicagel and the sorts didn't exist yet, a bowl of rice in the basement made sure that it wouldn't become too moist. Still works today, ofcourse.
Another thing you can try if the unit remains defective after cleaning it up a bit - buy some distilled water (at a hardware store or something).
Distilled water consists of H20 (yes, the real deal) for about 99.9% (depending on brand and quality). This means that harmful minerals like Kalium and Natrium will not be in it, meaning it can't cause electrical damage. If you use it carefully, you can rinse your device with it, dissolving any residual stickyness/salt etc inside.
Do take into account that - if not done properly - you might just move the crap from one place in your phone to the other, making things worse.

I'm having a total nightmare. Over the past few days my handset has been a nightmare. I was out last Saturday, and dropped my phone when it was raining. When I checked the phone it seemed to be OK, but there was some water still on the battery when I woke up and removed the cover on Sunday morning.
The phone seemed to be working OK at the time, but over the week there have been 2 issues.
1. The hardware buttons stop working intermittently. At first, the Call Send and Call End buttons were the wrong way around, but then now they have totally stopped functioning. The volume keys no longer work also. (The standby button on top is fine).
2. Every so often, the phone will go crazy, and its almost as if someone is pressing the buttons. It keeps going into Quick Launch mode and switching to Airplane Mode, and also keeps dialing Voicemail by itself.
I've just ran through the troubleshooting on the T-Mobile site, and it ask "Is the indicator sticker white?" - Mine is red
I am then told I have voided my warranty.
When I got handset, TMOB asked whether I wanted insurance. I said No because I thought I had it through my bank (I pay like £6 per month for my account and one of the advantanges you can choose is mobile phone insurance)
For this reason, I declined to take out the T-Mobile insurance.
This evening, Ive checked my banks insurance page on the website and in the small print is states:
Phones which have a primary use for the making and receiving of telephone calls, SMS text messages and data. We do not cover PDA type devices. Please see the definition of mobile phone/phone in section B of the Policy Document. If you are unsure as to whether your handset can be covered please contact us

Now, its too late to take out the T-Mobile insurance and I am stuck with a handset which doesnt work.
I am fully aware this is my own stupid fault.
I've been trying to check repair websites, but they seem to claim with Water Damage, there is no certainty that they will be able to fix the device, and it might come back in a worse state than it was sent in.
Any advice that could be offered would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know whether you can pay HTC directly to repair your device? I've tried calling but they are now closed.
HTC does service but they are slow.
Try putting the phone in a zip lock with some white rice, this will dry it out completely.
You have probably damaged the electronics due to using it when it was wet, however I would remove the battery and try to dry it as best you can before putting power back to the unit.
once heard that you can get the red dot back to white with some bleach.

I heard HTC sued some people for trying that trick. so be careful!
As far as rain/water damage goes...the rice bag trick has worked for me in the past, as well as taking the phone apart and cleaning all the contacts, etc with alcohol.
My phone is in for repair (thankfully under warranty) at the moment, so i'm half feeling your pain.

If it can start and operate, the device is probably able to be safe. At this moment, the moisture in the electronic board is shorting out. I would start with using a hair drier to dry out the moisture. Hot air it a few minutes and cycle this a few times within an hour should have the moisture removed. Hopefully, there are no residue left behind by the water that is 'conductive'.
For proper cleaning, I think the best is use either alcohol swaps or contact cleaner aerosol to clean the PCB boards, buttons.
Hope it will recover.
my topaz is having similar problems as mentioned by the OP but it didn't get wet ever. however the humidity has been on the higher side for last 2-3 weeks at this place, could that be the reason for this misbehaviour? the h/w keys (except for power button) and volume keys are not working at all as i make this post

Have you tried placing in a bag of rice to draw the moisture out?
Not sure if humidity could cause this but it's worth a try.
Otherwise I would assume worn contact points.
i dont have any idea about "bag of rice" yet so didnt try. but i kept it shut down for the whole night and buttons are working right now. it could def be the moisture problem.
PS: so while trying out this 'bag of rice' thing, should i disassemble the phone first or just i've to keep it as such? and as i said it never got wet, would it be better to just use a hair dryer?

The hair dryer can push the moisture around and cause more damage. Plus if its on heat, that too can damage something.
For the rice, just get a zip lock bag, put the rice in it then place the phone on top and seal the bag. No need to disassemble. The rice will draw the moisture out. I think a few hours would be suficient.

thanks Bruce, i'll try the Rice method and till then i'll just keep it turned off with no battery inside.
Just a short update about using rice, obviously you will use uncooked rice. Also, if you have or can find the vacumn bags, put the rice and phone and battery in the bag and get as much air out as you. The vacumn will help in pulling the moisture out of the device, and of course the rice absorbs the moisture. I used this trick on a Moto Razr that had been completely under water while on. Powered down, removed battery, rice, phone, battery into ziplock vacumn bag, one day later...perfect condition.
none of the methods mentioned above worked, so i took it to HTC service centre and it turns out that the motherboard has to be replaced which is gonna cost around 160 USD.

Last night my phone fell in water, and was still working so I turned it off to let it dry put it in a bag of rice etc. phone kept turning on by it self, I was debating if I should try and extract the pics right then and there but I kept telling my self the phone just fell in the water and its working let me turn it off so it can dry ( the smart thing to do right?)
well I turned on about 2 more times finally got it in the bag of rice and didn't turn back on by it self after that ( I don't think )
Well this morning I went to turn it on and nothing, put it on the charger nothing.
I just had a summer vacation and all my pics are on there with no backups, I am willing to try just about anything to extract these pictures any suggestions?
I also have a small theory that maybe the phone died, and charging port is not working from water?

I know this doesn't help you. But this is the reason that I backup pictures I can't do without to picasa. Google plus has the auto backup thing. Good luck extracting the pics.

If the phone's completely dead, then there's nothing you can do. That's been confirmed by developers and moderators in a similar thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414049 ... just go to the nearest service center and see if they can somehow extract the data from the memory, in case it's still intact. Also, I had a similar water accident several years ago with my old phone ... it started working again after several days of drying on a warm place. So put it back in the bag of rice and leave it for several days. Bear in mind that One has an aluminium body which is always cold (especially when the phone's not working and internal hardware can't heat it up), so that won't help in the drying process. If you don't succeed to power it back on, then the service center is your only solution. Good luck mate!

put it back in the bag of rice for a few days. don't touch it and definitely don't try to power it on. the only way the phone can get damaged (any more) is by turning it on. as long as it's off, no damage can be done.

Aluminum is a good thermal conductor, so it draws heat from your hand faster than other materials, making it feel colder, even though it's the same temperature.
Hello.
There's water in connectors (from keyboard, screen, plugs, ect... to motherboard), the only way is to completely dissamble the phone for remove each drop of water.
If no, it append this thing, the phone died because oxydation corrupt contacts and "eat" the copper tracks of printed circuits, so, there's no communication between parts.
The rice cannot blow this water because connectors are very tiny and deep inside the phone.
You need an electronician for trying to rework the tracks (big deal) and clean connectors.
I already rebirth an SGS1 by this way.
I vote for "keep it in the rice" for a few days.

Thanks for the help guys just wanted to update, I took sim tray slot out, left it in the bag of rice for a bit longer, and then the phone started charging. I extracted everything I needed to from the phone and got my pics out.
Phone has been working great, only thing now is there is some condensation on the camera lens. I might stick it back into some rice again and see if I can get that out.
Hi all . Wishing you all a happy holi.
Well as the thread says and since its holi (no explanation required) my phone seems to have shutdown after my friends and I were playing with a water pipe and I (for kicks) hosed my Xperia Z full of water.
After reading a few threads I came to understand that there are damage strip indicators on all panel flaps.
The micro SD flip is still white but the charger/usb cable and headphone jack flaps have turned pink,
The phone also crashed sometime after I hosed it with water and is not powering up.
So what should I do now?
Currently I'm on the advice of 3 friends using the rice method. I have opened all flaps of the phone and submerged it in a bowl of rice so that it dries out all the moisture. I intend to keep it the whole night and try powering it up in the morning.
Options:
1. Try the rice method and hope it works (yay)
2. After failing point 1, keep it in the sun/blower/hair dryer method and try again to power it up,
3. Take it to the Sony Service Center in Lajpat Nagar (I'm from New Delhi) and give it for repair.
P.S - My phone is rooted and running cyanogenmod. Will they charge me extra If I happen to give it for repair when they find out I'm running a custom mod.
I'm asking because Sony does weird things. When I bought the phone last year I dropped it on the ground and scratched a corner. Not too much but the phone was only 3 months old and I felt bad about it so I thought I get the body changed for a small fee.
Turns out Sony does not replace the phone body instead the executive simply told me to pay 50% of the price and I could get a whole new phone since the Xperia's body cannot be changed.

Point no. 1 worked.
I covered the phone in rice in a plastic bowl and left it for a whole day in my car where it got heated.
After that I tried powering it on. Seeing as I had already pretty much destroyed the phone I decided to give it one last shot on charging the phone which I hadn't done in case it short circuits and voila! The red light turns on and my phone is charging.
No problems detected.
Network/3G is working. Tried whatsapp, sms and used the camera and music player. Speakers are fine too. Same goes for the screen. Seems no damage done to the phone at all. Will need to change the screen guard though. Its become moist. I'll use the phone and reply on how the battery has been performing.
I'm sold. This is a SOLID PHONE. And I was worried that I'd have to shell out 15-20k because the damage indicators on the 2 flaps had turned pink.
Yup same here.... Although as I had water in my back camera.... It's left dust on my camera lens

hello man i couldn't understand your message anyway i got my phone fixed , the only problem i had was with the fog on the cameras which gone after 2 days by it self and also i used the bag which has small balls in it which take the humidity away
I managed to spill water on my (waterproof) phone this saturday, drunkenly, and just thought "meh, it's waterproof" and half-heartedly wiped off the water before going to sleep. so I woke up the next morning to a message saying "moisture detected in usb-port: turning off auto-detection", which I didn't see for a few days. no problems whatsoever for almost a week. then it started raining while I was listening to music, and my phone suddenly started displaying the same message over and over again, pausing my music every time, saying I had to manually enable auto-detection to use any USB-devices. now of course, the xz2 doesn't have an aux-port, so I need to use the usb-port to listen to music. ever since the rain, I haven't been able to listen to more than 1 minute of music without it cutting it off, and at times I can't even listen to one second of music before it shuts off.
There is no problem with the usb-port - everything works great - except that it somehow think there's still moist, thereby repeatedly cutting of my joy of listening to music.
I've looked and looked at the settings and can't find out how to manually enable auto-detection, so now I'm asking you guys... do you know what I have to tinker with to be able to turn off the auto-detection of moisture, instead of the other way around?
This might not help, but try turning the phone off and leave it in a bowl of uncooked rice for and hour or so...it's worked in the past for me with other phones.

It hasn't really occured to me to try this, as my phone was dry for 5 days before the rain and has been dry for two days since the rain and the problem still persists. But I'll try it later tonight. Thanks for the suggestion!

Or those little packs of silica that come with electronics work well.
Turns out it was the USB-C to AUX cable that was faulty. Switched it out with a new one and the problem went away
I got splashed by a big wave on a catamaran at sea the otherday while the xz2c was in my pocket. Dried the phone. All is well, including charging, but get the enoying recurring automatic usb detection warning. Since than no usb connection is possible with the pc. So charging yes, usb-communication no. Should I give up on this "water proof" phone?

Water proof, but not saltwater proof
There is no durable saltwater protection for smartphones.
The salt makes corrosion and weakens the water protection isolation like acid.
I would clean the USB with normal water to wash out the salt crystals.
