S7 Camera - Motion Photo - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if anyone was able to successfully install the S7 camera on the Note 5? I'm particularly interested in the motion photo feature the S7 camera has. I have tried the majority of roms and none of them have the S7 camera or feature. I managed to find the S7 camera port but it fails to open once installed through TWRP. If anyone has gotten this to work or has any info on this i would be grateful.

Camera stock versus custom rom

Hi there,
I read several times that the vendor camera apps of android devices would be much better than 3rd party camera apps. The original camera apps usually don't run on custom roms.
Those who have compared the camera apps: Is it true for this device that Samsung's camera app takes better pictures and videos or don't you see any difference? What about focus times (i.e. the time needed to take a picture)?
Best regards!
Both in left side are taken by MagmaNX rom, and both in right side are taken by S7e darklord rom, i didn't see which best
..
AOSP ROMs tend to have worse camera quality than TouchWiz based ROMs. This is because Samsung made their camera APIs closed sourced, which means that AOSP has to use worse APIs
It's the software processing that makes a difference. The camera hardware remains the same on any ROM.
There are some camera apps that use their own software processing. Don't ask me the names, cause I don't remember them.
I have a Samsung s4 i9506 . I want up date android 6.0 please help me
I can't say I've tried all cameras, but my opinion is that stock camera is faster and better than most. Stock camera would be even better if it had more settings, it is lacking a bit there.
I also use Camera FV-5, Open Camera, A Better Camera, ProCapture, CameraPro, I have used them for years but most of the time I just want to snap a good photo fast and stock camera delivers. Better for video as well, with working pause and snapshot.
At the moment I'm running 5.01 with Note 3 camera (4K video and 60fps at 1920x1080), but I'm thinking of trying some custom touchwiz based marshmallow ROM again. Could not get 60pfs @ 1920x1080 to work with any of the Lineage OS based Nougat ROMs I've tried. (I think 4K video worked though, with 3rd party camera). If I could get 60pfs video recording working I'd switch to crdroid or something else immediately even if I lost stock camera.

Do you know any touchwiz based marshmallow rom that works without problems?
I only found this one, but it says NFC would not work:

I still find 5.0.1 runs smoother than any 6.0.1 ROM I tried... tried a couple of S7 Edge, Note 7 etc. ported ROMs... but 5.0.1 (Jumbo ROM) is very smooth for me. Also nice that the Note 3 camera (4k and 1080p60) works flawlessly on it

After reading your post I decided after months of testing newest roms to go back to stock 5.0.1. Camera performance, focus speed, HDR, full HD 60 fps, 4K recording (note 3 mod) everything with this camera is so much better. So I was searching for solution and found it. You can use stock lollipop camera and have latest custom rom installed separetly.
Solution is in dual rom boot that i9506 supports https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447534 . So I installed DeHAWK 5.0.1 slim rom, and removed all apps that could be removed. I only want this rom to be used as camera rom only. My idea was to boot it as fast as passible. As a second rom I installed LineageOS 14.1. So I get the latest and gratest features of android os, and I can use samsung original camera app whenewer I want.
Only problem with this approach is that you need to restart os every time you want to use samsung camera which takes 50 seconds. It's not such a big dealbreaker if you cant live withoit it. It takes 20 seconds to shut down Lineage rom and 30 to boot DeHAWK rom. If someone has idea of speeding up shutdown or boot that would be great.
Other benefits, Samsung camera and gallery loads super fast. No delays. It must be because rom is clean with nothing to slow it down.
Few days ago, I had the opportunity to compare two S4s side by side, one with LOS official and one with stock rom. Gosh, the difference is dramatic
The pictures of the stock camera are much much better.
@tforgo: Thanks for your idea with dual boot. However, I need the camera instantly and cannot wait 50 seconds. But it is a good solution for people that have time taking pictures.

[Q] Note 8 - dual camera pictures and video recording

Hi,
Does the Note 8 have the dual shot camera mode found in other Samsung phones, where you can take pictures and video with both the front and back facing cameras at the same time?
I found myself using that mode the most on my Note 3, because I was always the one taking pictures and not appearing in any of them.
Thanks,
Daniel
Hello Daniel,
I just checked over all of my settings in the default camera app, and I did not find that feature.
Hi, It's not usually in the default modes, can you swipe from the left and try to add a new one, check if it's in the options from the market?
Thanks
It should do something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZJnBhcU3Eo
I'm familiar with the mode, but unfortunately, it is not a native option from Samsung. There are only 3 additional modes in the market: Fast Action, Animated GIF, and Rear Selfie, none of which will achieve the dual camera mode we are looking for. Sorry
i found a separate APK for this, if you are interested: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/help/dual-camera-mode-app-t3674266
I don't have the phone yet to test it out, but thank god for these people who mod out apps!
I downloaded the Dual Camera APK from APKMirror (the one that works as a plugin for Samsung Camera) and it works well. I've been using it for at least a month without trouble.
Cand it do Video and Pictures, or is it limited to just pictures?
Hello everybody, there is a new app called DuoVision Camera that records and takes picture from both front and back cameras simultaneously, and even has the retro frame with todays date. Check it out on playstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sec.android.app.camera.duovisioncamera&hl=en. Enjoy !

Camera Noise Reduction - Remove this awful 'feature'

Hi everyone,
I thought I'd post this as since I've had my S5 (within last 6 months) I have been quite disappointed by the quality of the camera images, particularly in mid to low light. Having had a Xperia Z2, LG G3 and G2 I had seen that the S5 was meant to have by far the best camera out of its peers. Unfortunately, while not as anywhere near as bad as the Z2, the S5 is significantly worse than both the G3 and the G2, mainly due to the awful noise reduction implemented by the Samsung firmware. The Z2 also had this problem in spades, and the only way to remove it was to unlock the bootloader and erase the DRM keys.
I though that this was the same on the S5 (or even completely impossible), but have recently discovered a camera app called 'Snap Camera HDR' in the Play Store. There is a free version and a paid version.
The app is the most fully featured camera app I have seen (I have used Open Camera, Camera FV-5 and many others), with tonnes of options and manual controls.
They key thing though is that it allows you to disable the built in noise-reduction: Go through the menu and select, then deselect the option 'Denoise'
There are also options to select 'Samsung Camera Mode' which enables real-time HDR (you have to select 'Use OpenGLES 2.0' under 'Other'), and you can also increase image sharpness and
change compression levels.
I've done some real world tests and I think the difference is huge. I'd rather have a little bit of noise and keep a sharper, more detailed, more natural image.
Here are some comparisons (I've cropped them down so you can see the detail more easily):
(P.S.: I have absolutely nothing to do with the Snap Camera developers)
Hm, nice find. I'm not sure if I'd need it thought since I'm on the Note 7's camera app. Any idea if the Note's camera app has this problem or not? I'm no picture taking guy so i can't tell by myself. I've barely used my camera during the past 3 years.
PS: The S5's camera was never good in low light, its strength was only during the day
great, great discovery I was propio looking for a good room for lineage 15.1 unofficial, thanks
This also seems to work without root (I have root but the app has never asked for SU permissions). I'm not sure why other camera apps don't have this feature.
Camera FV-5 has several image adjustments (such as saturation and sharpness) but they don't actually seem to work.
I have an AT&T S5 so I'm unfortunately stuck with stock based ROMs. Does anyone know if this heavy handed noise reduction exists on AOSP or other ROMs?
This might actually make me like my S5. I'm looking forward to getting out and taking some decent shots with the phone now!
Here is an example of the highly customisable UI
Also the built in camera of LineageOS 14.1 has the option to disable camera noise reduction.
With this camera you also have the possibility to take pictures in RAW mode without compression and you can also use HDR mode (but without flashlight) :good:

RAW? I didn't think Camera2 was supported on the S5 hardware..? Is the Lineage camera available as an apk?
Here: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/linea...a-2-0-002-776519c100-30-android-apk-download/
I don't know if it is RAW but pictures in best quality mode have a very big filesize.

Probably not RAW then. You'd know if it was RAW as you'd have to use a special image viewer and process the photographs afterwards.
I can't install it to test unfortunately as I'm limited to Lollipop.
Resurrecting this.
Tried the app in a hope it would allow me to disable the noise filter on my Galaxy Note 7 LDU. It does. But it also restricts the shutter speed to 1/10th of a second. Unacceptable having up to 10 seconds capability. Overall the app has a hard to use and confusing UI. Users complain that there is no support at all to ask devs for help or features. Ditched it.

Fair enough. I still use it and as far as I'm concerned it's the best camera app for Android. I get what you mean about the UI, but what I like is that you can customise it quite a lot.
You can use the 'gesture' / 'pie' controls, or (as I do) chose to add all the required switches and adjustments as static buttons around the camera edge.

Any working gcam port for this device?

I tried a few but most of them crash and not able to use features other than back camera. It has almost the same processor as exynos 7855 tho
Can you share which ports you used?
The one I used only works for video recording. Cannot take photos.
I think it's because the OS . Can u check if your phone Android are 32bit instead of 64bit ?
I got galaxy a10 with 32bit Android 9.0 , I had try all gcam I could found with no luck.
And then I could only play mobile legends on low frame rate. But I install something people share, it allow me to play with high frame with very minor frame drop.

camera2 api is limited thus why Google camera not fully functional with all of it's features

Google Camera for Note 8 [Mod8.3b_IDan_v4.7]

Google Camera [version 5.1.018] for Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (greatlte)
A working mod of Google Camera or GCam for Galaxy Note 8 Exynos is now available to download which is built by IDan. With a proper manual settings, almost every feature is working on this Google Camera.
This is based on Google camera base version 5.1.018. You get HDR+, ZSL, Slow motion etc. on this GCam Exynos mod for Galaxy Note 8 Exynos model.
IDan’s GCam Exynos builds come not so frequently, but these are compatible for most of the recent Samsung models running on Exynos chipset.
Why Camera2API ?
⚬ Camera2 API was enabled on Android 5.0 to give the software applications access to the low level functionality of a camera hardware such as: Slow motion, RAW image capability etc.
⚬ To be able to use the Google Camera RAW image capture, Slow motion, manual control and other features Camera2 API works with HAL3 version.
Why Gcam Tools ?
⚬ To Prevent flipping of front camera photos, help to choose which photos you want to move, select custom source and destination folders, to batch move multiple files & help to delete the sub folder created by Google Camera.
