HTC Dream vibrates continually.

I have a rogers dream running Open Éclair 1.3.0 (32A patch, Apps2sd ext4, 256mb swap). Yesterday, I received a call, and the phone vibrated as per normal. However, it would not stop vibrating after the call went to voice mail. I rebooted the phone, and it kept vibrating. I then pulled the battery and let it sit for a while. As soon as the splash screen appeared on boot, it started vibrating.
I then did a full wipe and reinstall of the OS, and it still vibrates. It kept vibrating even when I had it on the recovery screen. After finishing the reinstall, I used the terminal emulator to run "fix_permissions". Interestingly, the phone remains completely functional in-spite of its constant vibration. Also, the vibration stops when the screen goes dark.
As a last resort, I'm tempted to put it back to the OEM state with the standard issue Rogers ROM, however, that would be an absolute last resort, as the Rogers ROM is practically unrootable. Does anyone have any ideas as to what would be the cause of this? The phone is still under warranty.

you can root the phone if you know how to use a goldcard. It just got solved I believe (99% sure its solved lol)

hmmm... more than likely a hardware issue. Not software.

I was thinking hardware issue as well, but that doesn't explain why it stops vibrating when I turn the screen off with the "end" button. (Of course, it starts vibrating again as soon as the screen lights).

Give it to some girl as a gift?

yup sound hardware if your still under warranty then OEm it and send it i..... then gold card i guess
if you are not there is probably a terminal command to disable the vibrate completely (or you can remove it manually)

I'm sure my significant other would be thrilled, but then I'd be stuck using my old LG Shine "dumb phone". I guess it's time to send it in for warranty, and in the meantime, start reading up on goldcards.

Now I'm really confused. I was backing stuff up in preparation for return to stock, and I fired up a terminal emulator so I could reboot into recovery for taking a nandroid (because I'm too lazy to just shut it down and hold down home when booting), and when it rebooted, it stopped vibrating. I rebooted out of recovery, and it seems to have fixed itself.

I don't see the problem here.

And it randomly started doing it again, seemingly as a result of being placed on a desk. Warranty time.

try removing the vibrator at the back if it bothers you that much...
its at the back accesible when you remove the battery cover

The phone is being replaced under warranty. Now to get my root back :-/

SCREWED

Earlier today I tried the OTA update and failed. When I got home from work. I used odin to go back to stock without root, and it let me run the upgrade again. This time it failed again and now my phone won't even boot up. It acts like it is getting no power.
Any suggestions?

Ive tried everything. It won't even let me get into download or recovery mode. How strange.

same here, canceled the download to turn on wifi, went back to download then update and now it's totally bricked...

on the phone now with ATT waiting to speak with tech support.

hmmm....let me know what happens! im scared now :/

plug your phone into your computer and let me know if a strange file appears on your desktop.

plugged it in and nothing happened, attempted to get to download mode and still failed, gonna call in tonight when I have time

Not sure if its related but I found a file saying this on my desktop.

Happened to a few of us. Nothing works. The phone is completely dead.

I found out that if you even pause the download, it will make your phone become inoperable. This came straight from ATT tech support. They said once it starts the update you pretty much can't touch the screen or do anything with the phone. Once it because inoperable there isn't anything you can do to get it back in working order. You pretty much are left with a pretty paper weight.

Yep. I had to go exchange mine yesterday. They looked at the phone like 'how did that happen...?'. Told them the FW update cancelled in the middle but still tried to apply and now we have a nice paperweight. He just looked at me like 'wow, that sucks...' and set me up a new Captivate.
It really doesn't make sense though. The resume button is there but it doesn't resume the D/L. How can you code a FW update to apply a partial file....

Yeah it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I got my new captivate in the mail today. They over nighted it to me. The strange part is my battery was completely dead when I put it in the new captivate. I'm trying to charge it now but its going up very very slow. I had a full charge when I started to update yesterday. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

To be honest I'm almost afraid to try and use any OTA updates anymore.

Curiosity kills the cat Captivate...?

Got my Captivate exchanged yesterday and it of course didn't work well. Got a new one today, GPS does not work what-so-ever...
I'm thinking of just returning this phone and that's it. What's sad is the phone that bricked worked perfectly.

SAME HERE!!! I made sure mine was fully charged before I started the update. Update failed, phone wouldn't turn on, got a new one this morning and my battery was critically low.

I had to re-adjust the settings in Lbs test mode to get the gps to work again.

I tried both www.spirent.lcs.com and supl.google.com and non work. I'm having more issues in the last 20 hours than I had in 3 1/2 weeks with my first Captivate. AT&T rep just told me to go exchange the phone again and not to leave the store until I get a fully functional phone - and wrote that in special instructions to the store on my account notes.

[Q] Green flash on screen timeout? Check your hd7, it only takes a few seconds.

I recently noticed that when the screen turns off by itself after being idle, there is a green flicker on the screen the very moment that the screen turns off.
The fact that this doesn't happen when I manually turn off the screen suggests that this might be a software problem but I'm not sure about that.
Does this indicate a bigger problem? Should I take it back to Tmobile? I think my 30 days is about up this week and I didn't get the insurance. I would gladly try to exchange it for a new one tomorrow if we didn't have this huge blizzard right now.
Anyone else experiencing this? All you have to do to check is turn on the phone to the lock screen and wait for it to dim then wait for it to shut off. My screen turns bright green right as it shuts off.

I just checked mine, and it doesnt seem to have this issue ...
It's not a big thing though, but you might wanna go and change it with a new one.

You just need to turn off the phone and it won't happend after that

I discovered that restarting the phone makes the problem disappear but only for a little while. After a day or two it comes back.
I'm assuming that by "restarted" you don't mean a factory reset. Am I right?

I discovered something interesting ... Today i replaced my HD7 with a new one because of an issue ...
Then i had this green flickering problem. It happenned while i was using the shipped rom (1.23). I upgraded the ROM to 1.57 and the issue seems to be gone ... at least for now.
Can you check this? what rom version are you using?

I'm running 1.20 from t-mobile and you said that 1.54 it's compatible with t-mobile

I'm new to the forums so i don't know about the rom version but the phone says bootloader version 1.20.2250.0.

ok, so i can confirm that the issue is because of your rom version (1.20), since i didnt have this issue again (after the rom update) until now.
but since there are no rom updates for tmobile yet, you gonna have to wait a bit longer.
Just dont worry about this issue, its not a hardware problem.

I have tmobile HD7 and I also so mine doing that a few times. Recently I haven't seen it again, I don´t know if its because I reduced the off screen time.

Hopefully it is purely a software issue.
Just to share my experience, I also notice the green flicker, but only around 1 of 10 times. So don't get too excited when do you don't see one. Problem doesn't resolve after a hard reset either. I understand there's a wp7 update to be released later this month? Hopefully that'll help.
Just a question, these rom updates, are they official and released by Tmobile or whichever carrier you're with? I purchased mine outright online, and so don't have that option.

I have noticed this intermittent issue occur when applying a chosen wallpaper for the lock screen through settings or album but the strange thing is when I re-apply my chosen wallpaper the issue is gone no green screen flicker on screen timeout
I could be wrong but there seems to be a bug when the OS applies the wallpaper, on occasions it does not do it correctly hence the green screen!
I hope the upcoming wp7 update fixes this issue!

Phone is sh*t

Okay, so my phone has always had weird problems. But just today, my phone started running slow out of nowhere and then froze on Instagram so I took the battery out. I then put the battery back in, and I wasn't watching the phone and every time I picked the phone back up, the screen was black and would't show anything. So, I thought it was just like when that happens and all I do is reinsert the battery and it works again, but it wasn't. I did it again while watching the screen, and when i watched it, it would boot up with the LG logo, then turn black. Then reset itself, LG logo, then black and stay black. So then I put it on the charger and restarted it thinking the battery was dead. Same thing happened. I then used my computer to reflash the img file, no difference. I then waited like 3 minutes and tried to restart it, then it got to the sprint part for like 20 secs, then turned black. I write music and have a lot of lyrics in my phone and a lot of images I don't want to lose. I'm tempted to do the TOT restore to see if it fixes anything but this problem is ridiculous. Any help?

If you do the TOT restore use LGUP because lgflashtool will probably wipe your stuff.

I would not waste time with a restore. He needs a new phone. sprint will replace it.
recommend going to a corporate store.

You are so negative. Why not just try it once?

Something is wrong with your phone. This is an AMAZING phone.. either do a TOT restore or call it into sprint and get it resolved.

I had this issue with 2 G4s. It is a hardware/sprint software issue. They will replace phone for free.

It's a classic problem with the hardware. And even if it did revive it, it will crap out again in a week or a month.
He described the issue to a "T".

At least once a week I go to use my phone and it will not turn on? I have to hit the power and volume down to reboot the phone. It's getting worse and worse does anyone know why this is happening. I tried to search I didn't see anything. I am on Att and stock.

I am sure you tried factory reset already? I had a few in phones in the past do that. Usually was a bad battery. When did it all start? How old is phone? Any apps you install and it started doing this?
Leaning more towards you will need to ship in for a warranty with Samsung.

This is my 2nd phone the first one got screwed up with a update. I have had this one for about 4 months and it just started doing it about a month ago. Now it has done it 3 times this week. Once just now and it happens on the charger and off the charger. It has made me late waking up twice. I haven't done a phone restore yet and I haven't installed any new apps.

Sorry didn't read right tired ha. Black screen usually sign of bad screen. Got mixed up and thought it was restarting on it's on. If there was no apps that caused it. You didn't mess with any settings? Said your stock.
If none of the solutions others suggest soon don`t work. I'd go for a factory reset last resort. Worst case you will have to ship again to Samsung sadly

I see a lot of people having this problem. Not on here but online and it's not just the Note 8 it's the S8 too.

That's concerning. I take it most people with same situation as yours, shipped into sammy? Sucks you gotta go through this bs again maybe.

Just as suggestion, but if you use AOD try turning it off and and see if this fixes the problem.
I had this problem with Ironman ROM and turning off AOD fixed the problem.

If you can't reboot your device to fix black screen problem, you can try FoneLab broken android phone data extraction to fix it.
Download and install the program on your computer, and then connect device to computer.
Then you can scan, select and recover data with a few clicks.
