Hey Everyone,
I'm fairly new to the Android community. I got an R1 and have since rooted it and de-bloated it. But I was wondering what the state of Cyanogenmod is. I've heard they've stopped development on it. Is there any chance they (or someone) will add support for the Blu R1 HD?
I'm interested in getting a full AOSP experience without the closed source google services kit software.

Don't hold me to this, but I personally believe CM13 support will not be too difficult. It'll be later versions of Android that will pose a problem.
Also, CM13 for the R1 HD is being worked on. It's just a matter of time.

I'm in the same exact boat, have rooted/de-bloated and installed trebuchet and other features, but really would like to see CM support.

I don't understand too much about android ROM development, but what would prevent CM14 development/future versions from being developed?
contacted Blu and they told me that they are looking forward to working on updating as many devices as they can to the new platform as soon as possible!......righhtttt!!!
Once the dev. on the kernel is in line for a cm13 port , cm14 (which is already being worked on) hopefully might be a possibility.

Me either, but I think it would be the drivers. I would suspect with CM13 they can use it's current drivers but with anything Android 7.0 they would need new drivers.
Blu has updated a few devices haven't they? They have to develop the drivers and then run it through the carriers approval I believe? I'm sure they are looking at how much money they expect to make from the R1 HD in 4-6 months. Some of this might depend on their plans of a new phone they plan to release. R1 HD is a big seller.... but what about in 6 months?
A device tree is very likely being compiled for this device now that the kernel source has been released. A CM 13 build I'd imagine is also in the works with other custom roms likely to follow. I would just sit back and keep your eye out. As soon as customs ROMs are released you should easily find them in R1 HD Forums on XDA. I wouldnt hold your breath for anything beyond android 6.0 on this device tho! Marshmallow ROMs will be more then sufficient for these devices and most devs really don't like to hear when this or that will be updated or released.

No, I'm pretty sure once devs can build AOSP 6.0 for this device, it'll get 7.0, even if BLU abandons it. I mean, you do realize that you're on a website famous for, among other things, providing unofficial updates to unsupported devices, right?

Yeah I know exactly where I am bro. The fact that its such a low cost device and the unlikely hood of Blu updating the kernel source to 7.0 makes it very very unlikely there will ever be any kind of 7.0 update on these phones. Plenty of unofficial updates of ROMs are released but not many are above the "official" releases like going from 5.0 to 6.0 or 6.0 to 7.0. Were still waiting to see how Devs react to the R1 HD now since its not a big name mainstream device. So like I was saying if we don't see Blu update to 7.0 which is doubtful, we prob won't see any kind of Nuaget. Not saying its impossible without a Blu update just wouldn't hold my breath waiting on a Dev to take on that task on this particular device....

"Not a big name mainstream device"
Totally man. The number 1 selling phone on Amazon isn't a "big name, mainstream device." If anything this phone is proving how Android development is dwindling.
There was a article that said Blu would release Android 7.0 for the R1 HD. I don't know how reliable or legitimate it is.

They probably did say it, BLU has a history of promising upgrades, they rarely deliver. I don't know if the blame is theirs or their Chinese partners, not delivering. But even at that if BLU was smart they would hire a team of developers to actually develop roms instead of just simple branding tweaks on the manufacturer supplied firmware. BLU needs to tweak their sales routine, currently they sell flashy looking phones on the cheap, but if they would change their focus to selling entry to mid level phones with better support, they could really make a name for themselves.

CyanogenMod recently pushed out stables for CM10.2 on a select range of devices announcing that, with this, their efforts would be solely focused towards the CM11 code branches. However, they also announced that any devices which received that RC1 of CM10.2 would too continue into CM11.
My question, considering we are still unfortunate enough to be on somewhat unstable nightlies (the notification sound delay, UI issues, application crashes) is, what will be the future of CyanogenMod on the O4x? Will we even make it to stable CM10.2?
Hopefully we can! This is such a brilliant device as you all know well, and the hardware restrictions of KitKat are supposed to be lowered anyway
For clarification, this is not a complaint, the work of the CyanogenMod Team is always much appreciated. I, and so many of you, have donated and thanked them and tested their software for them. This is merely to gain an understanding of where our device is headed so as to aid everybody here in the decision of whether to stick with the device or, should worse come to worse.... look for another :-/

Can't wait to see the community development though, the new Android RunTime looks very fascinating :3
why dont u enter cyanogenmod and see with your eyes ? anyway. of course we dont see any support. its a miracle that we had that much support too. who will support a phone which doesnt even has the support of the official company ? LG only had 4.0.3 and 4.1.2 and thats all. isnt it already a miracle that we have 4.3.1 ? and we have also so many good developers that work for 4.4 ?
I don't understand why people want 4.4 so bad when it's one of the worst upgrades from Google i have ever seen. They had to launch 4.4.1 updates right away. You want a better software I agree thats needed but 4.4 isn't a solution.

Everyone wants KitKat because... Well, because it's new! Why not? I believe that pushing one's expectations beyond what is already achieved represents a strong impulse to improvement. Experimenting, trying new solutions, feeling the awesomeness of something that did not exist before is a powerful spring to the change, the change in itself is something that animates the developers and makes them work with no reward as if this was their job.
It has happened with all Android versions, and always there had been someone who felt amazed and wondered why should we need a new version.
kK can be (and probably is, but who am I to judge) one of the worst Android versions, but I am happy to see people trying to overcome all the problems related with making it work on a relatively old device, and I am happy if by testing what is being developed, and by giving my opinion I can be of some help to somebody.
Want to call it a game? Why not! Want to consider people like me as grown up kids that need something to play with? Well, yes, I am, and will always cheer a new Android version working on one of my devices with grateful heart.
Ricardo Cerqueira is no longer the maintainer of our device?
there is no one who will replace him?
It should be possible to join the CM team, if the 4.4 is running.
The tegra3 problems will hopefully not be a trap for it.
If there is a maintainer who can update CM once, there will be no real reason not to get official support.
Good news everybody!
On the CyanogenMod website, the P880 has been listed officially as one the devices to receive support further than the CM10.2 nightlies, which will be a win-win for everyone

Dear Fellufz,
CM13 Nightlys are officially available. Any chance to bring this to work for this little sweet device? As I can see, there is a Custom rom based on CM12.1 .... Maybe we could build something onto it to make cm13 work? ( at least make it a WiP, nobody needs bluetooth)
Any thought's on this?`
I definitely hope so and I think developers will be getting onboard for this. It is still relatively new to the market but especially at this price point and the black Friday deals, this is flying off the shelves. Its just such a nice little tablet to play and experiment with roms and see how we can push it for great general use. Looking forward to trying various roms on this thing. CM13 can't come soon enough for this.
I'd imagine alot of people will be looking go get it as its only £35 in the UK I don't know what the us price is

No they do NOT. There are only like 4 devices now that get the official nighties all being flagship phones. I doubt this device will ever have official support. It will probably get CM 13...eventually. I doubt that anyone will build it for a while though. There are way too many changes to the SRC as more and more code is pushed to the GIT. When CM official full releases come about, then is the time to expect CM 13.
So, it's quite possible that our much beloved Nexus 5 doesn't receive final Android N, afterall.
In that case, I was wondering it anyone would be interested in providing a custom N build, with no changes, compared to Google's own build.
I mean, ODEX, non-zipaligned, no root, nothing. Just stock like stock Google software.
I'd pay for this.
Is it possible for someone to create a ZIP that can be sideloaded in the default recovery?

When the final release is out, it's pretty safe to say that someone will make a build for the Nexus 5. Until then, there is nothing devs can do right now. Google currently doesn't have everything available to do so.
Yes, I know.
I'm talking about the future, after N is uploaded to AOSP.
I know there will be lots of ROMs, but I just wanted stock Google software, no root, theme, anything.
Basically, an unofficial Google OTA.
I'm willing to pay for this, and I can gather many people to join this cause.
probably Google will release android N to Nexus 5, but its the last official release to it. Just like Nexus 4 on Lollipop era, was pretty the same thing.
How is that surprising they want you to buy the next device so if they drop support look at it this way you can always install a ROM and I'm confident you will see something up fast

Nop, Google won't release the Android N for Nexus 5, as they dropped the support for newer releases in October 2015. But of course that as soon as the source code is out we'll get the update because the devs will take care of that

Since you aren't clairvoyant I'll wait to see. The N7 2013 got MM but if you go by the date listed on googles site they stoped officially supporting it in July of 2015. And if not, eh.. There will be tons of N roms once its released. Most likely day one.

Looks like afterwards I have reason
We all know there will be lots of ROMs.
But the purpose of this thread, is to get to know if any developer would like to provide a stock "Google" equivalent, for those that want their N5 to feel like it's been updated by Google itself.
I'll sure try, especially if there is money on the line lol
I won't make any promises, but I'll gladly take a look when the source gets out if I still have the device.
I've been reading stuff on Reddit, and many people would appreciate this "Google experience" ROM.

No it is not officially over, nothing on that page confirms it is officially over. Only the ''Guaranteed" support is over for the Nexus 5.
That doesn't mean it won't get Android N, I think the chance for a official release of Android N for the N5 is really small but there's still a chance it will get it.
Till the final release of Android N is out no one knows anything for sure if it comes to the future of the N5.

I know he used to do it for the N5, pretty sure I've seen his builds for a few other phones as well. That was his thing. When a new Android OS comes out he usually releases a stock / AOSP build. Non rooted, no mods, etc. I'm not sure if he's still around though, but it can't hurt to ask.

Looking at the history of ROMs in the past here on XDA, there is usually always someone who ports a pure AOSP build with no mods. I wouldn't worry about it much. Especially this early.
I hope so.
Not really into modding/rooting/whatnot.
A stock Google-ish ROM for me, and I'll be happy.

BLU does not have a very good track record with maintaining or updating their devices... If not for Amazon that variant would still be stuck on 6.1.... But it is a nice phone for the price.... We would stand a better chance of getting Nougat if everyone that bought the device contributed to a fund, and paid Tinno to develop it....

Better not expect it. Marshmallow still respectable, especially for general users who don't care if their phones got current version.

Would be nice. Sucks to buy a new phone only to find the NEXT android OS version comes out with new functionality like google assistant right after, and the phone MFR is all "sorry not upgrading that model" :silly:
Yeah, but it's much easier to take lack of updates on a $60 phone than a $600 phone!
Lenovo dropped updates on my, then $230, Moto G LTE xt1045 only 10 months after it was released. And that update from kitkat to lollipop was reported to have lots of problems.

BLU did promise (actually "with a guaranteed update to Android 7.0.") to Android Authority during an interview about the BLU r1 HD, http://www.androidauthority.com/blu-r1-hd-announced-700951/
"US based, BLU Products, announced a new budget smartphone to its lineup for the US market. The BLU R1 HD is sold unlocked, backed by a 2500mAh battery and is currently one of the few devices yet, confirmed to run the upcoming Android 7.0 Nougat when it arrives later this year."
Will be interesting if we actually see Nougat since we haven't even seen LTE band 12 yet and that was promised by both Amazon and BLU R1 HD (shortly after release) 5 months later no update yet.
I would expect an CM rom or something to be completed and working perfectly before BLU officially releases a Nougat update.

This might be a dumb question or even the wrong place the ask but what the hell. It sounds like a few if not lots of the various BLU model phones have bootloaders that can be unlocked at least the R1 HD does. What are the chances of LineageOS getting an official build/port? I have seen the unofficial ports (have not used any yet as it sounds like it might be a little buggy and not regularly updated along side LineageOS main builds.

If you take a look at ROM development for the R1 HD you'll see that any and all efforts in porting LineageOS to it returned in a lot of frustration to the devs. Mainly because they don't have the MTK kernel source code for it so the camera and some other minor stuff doesn't work as intended. If I were you, I'd move on to a nicer phone with a Snapdragon processor like Moto E or Moto G. I'm contemplating that myself in a few months as my Nexus 5 currently has been showing some CPU instabilities, heating up and shutting down randomly. So my main phone is the R1 HD right now. I was thinking about a OnePlus 5 but its not waterproof so it's a no go for me.
Early releases of the ROM had some security issues that allowed us to reflash them with SP Flash Tools. These holes have since been plugged and anyone who updates to the latest over-the-air software has a phone that can not be flashed with a custom recovery or modified ROM. There are a number of posts here from people that have updated to the latest over-the-air version and can no longer modify their phones.
At some point, the phones being sold by Amazon will start coming through with the newer software versions that can not be reflashed. These phones will not be able to be modified or have ROMs developed or modified for them. That's why I bought a backup as soon as they announced a new model.

Thanks, my r1 hd is by no means my main phone. I have lots of misc android based phones that I use as wifi only devices etc.. I have my r1 hd rooted debloated and boot loader unlocked. Was just hoping to see a custom stable nougat rom at some point. All my other (mostly Samsung devices) are running LineageOS and running just fine. I bought my r1 hd for my 13 year old daughter as the price was just right for a entry-level android phone. Can't beat $50 from Amazon after you remove all the Amazon crap ware.

Very true. I miss my Nexus 5... It's working but there's a problem with the temperature sensor. If the CPU heats up it reboots on its own.
So my R1 HD has become my main phone.
I've hacked the shie out of it. Magisk, Xposed, N-ify, GravityBox, etc. It's pretty much exactly like I want it to be.
Really wish they'd release an official Nougat for it though.
Custom ROMs like LineageOS... Forget about it.
It's sad and I thought that by now some devs wouldn't cracked this thing open but nope. Ain't gonna happen.
Looks like the new Moto E4 will trump the R1 HD one year later. I think I'm going to buy one and pass on my R1 HD to my mom. Haha!
